Hi
I have bought a nexus 4 for my daughter and I would like to block a guys contact on her whatsapp,
If I use the normal whatsapp blocking she can unblock it easily. What I want is to block a number on her whatsapp such that its not visible to whatsapp at all
Thanks

Sorry there is no such mod/settting in official whatsapp to block a contact as like you are saying..
Should I be the one that says that's bad parenting? The more you cage a bird, it will take its first chance it can escape. Who's to say she will use another phone instead of the one you gave making your question rather useless.

Hi, Misledz I know u from this forum since... years, and I respect u a lot, but I don't think he's asking how to educate his daughter. I also think that's bad parenting, and I wouldn't do that, because I think u have to let ur sons and daughters crash with reality and problems, but that's not the funtcion of this forum, is it?
@7thAkash, as they said, there isn't such mod, but if she wants to contact him she will use facebook, viber, skype, or whatever.

Hahaha likewise. I didn't mean to do so but I apologize if it does seem that way, was just trying to explain the logic behind that decision. Since I had to bring up my sisters the same way. But I agree with you on that.

The easiest way is edit the contact to remove the country code lol. The way whatsapp works is it makes sure that the country code-phone# matches before it displays. I've had some contacts without the country code and they dont show up. That is until that person messages you.

There is an app which allows me to hide my contact from any whatsapp user
This means if any user even saves my number in his contact , it will still not show on his whatsapp contacts
But it will to show to everyone else except him
Any idea which app is this ?

how do i add a contact to my sim? i can only add it to the phone but i can't even export that number to my sim card....wtf..
also why does it ask me to sync when i add a new contact? i don't want to damn sync my personal numbers to your damn database , damn google. there's no add to even add new contacts without agreeing for it to be sync. then once you add the number to your phone, you can even export it to your sim card...why''??!?!

Is this a question or a rant? Don't know why you would want to add contacts to sim card. You can store much more information through Google sync, and you don't risk losing all your contacts if the sim card goes bad. Its nice when I get a new android phone it syncs all of the contacts immediately and I don't have to do anything.
To answer one of your questions, I do not think there is a way to do it.

good for you, not for me. just cause you like something and it's preference don't mean that someone else will like it. i thought people would learn this by now. it's annoying that every topic there's a smartass pushing their own preferences on other people. just cause you like lady gaga don't mean i do. i don't care bout storing "much more information" i just want to store simple numbers and a contact name. i like being able to take my sim card and use it with most phone and have all my contacts there, without having to go through stupid process.

Holy crap get a new phone!
Sure all these features are my preferences, but Google puts these things in place for convenience for most users. I didn't mean to come off an ass, but this is just the way that technology is going. Sim cards rarely go out, you are correct, but recently I had one go out on an old phone and so did my wife. Plus not every phone uses a Sim card, so for those individuals who decide to use Verizon or sprint, or some other CDMA service, the option of importing/exporting contacts to/from Sim card isn't available.

not everyone is programmer who can add functions to an OS. not every programmer is going to waste time programming functions that should have been included as a basic feature that is included in most phones. you see the point? google only implemented this so they have can more people using their services = more $$. that's all. they could have easily added this. this is amongst the least of simple functions they failed to included but it's the basic of most other smartphones OS.

Call me old-fashioned but for me Android is an OS for tech enthusiasts who delight in tinkering with their devices to do things that the manufacturers didn't implement rather than people who must complain at every opportunity because what they wanted wasn't served up on a silver plate. If you want an OS that babies to your every need them maybe Android is really not for you.

simple functions like a volume control in the music player and add sim to contact, both of which are ubiquitous their music players and phones, respectively, is "babying"???? simple functions like that should the basic. if they can't even add those, that says alot of their design when you have to rely on third party apps to get it done. as for the ring and vibrate. anyway, i downloaded audacity and i edited the ringtone to have a delay in the intro. no need for more battery draining third party apps. i have to waste time to even get a simple function like that. Yes android is about people tinkering with the OS and having fun with it, NOT about people have to waste time to get simple functions to work.
anyway, i'm done with this thread. delete it if you wish.
Simple functions but not ones most people actually use. Google didn't implement them because they are not popular features but the OS is flexible enough that people can actually make them work if they want. If that's too much work for you then, well, good luck.

All smart phones will import and use google contacts. It works great and I never loose them. You can look them up via your email if someone steals your phone.
BTW> THIS IS THE WRONG PHONE FOR YOU.
You do realize you can just turn off contact sync in Google, under the Accounts in Settings, right? I hate to break it to you, but I don't think Android is for you.

Tried and Tested Method Save New contacts to SIM / RUIM card
Well friends, there is a need to put some private entries on SIM. Let me explain.
My wife and me are both professionals working with the same set of professional contacts. Hence I use My Phone Explorer to sync our Phonebook, Notes, Tasks and Calender to be identical and concurrent.
To keep my personal contacts / friends (and hers for that matter) out of the Sync list we would prefer to leave them on my SIM and her RUIM (CDMA) card.
Here is how you do it.
Open "People".
Select "Menu" and then "View"
Keep only "Sim" ticked and untick everything else.
Go back to "People" and you shall only see SIM contacts.
Select Add and fill in the details and you are done.
This is how I do it for my old HTC Salsa Android 2.3.1 and Galaxy Y CDMA. (Menus differ slightly between manufacturers)
Others may need a slightly different method
F this hangouts app. Anyone have and ideas for getting talk back... This is driving me nuts.
yes
go to apps in setting uninstall HANGOUTS update
Sadly I just clean flashed and clean gapps installed today... So no talk to roll back to
Sooner or later, all Talk app will be replaced with Hangout. Don't be like one of them facebook biatches that complain every time they release a new update. Sure you might not like it at first, but you'll get used to it.
Anyways if you still insist on getting Talk, here's a link.

Hangouts is a WhatsApp copycat which does nothing to integrate Google services and somehow manages to remove functionality with the inability to initiate audio-only voicechats. It's a shameless maneuver designed to force Google+ down users' throats.
What's worse, once this rolls into Gmail there's a good chance we'll lose the ability to make phone calls.

It's not a whatsapp copy cat, but an evolution. Let me know when whatsapp let's me message from the pc and the tablet and we'll talk.
Also, no one is forcing Google+.
And they are adding voice chat support soon, but most likely be through Google voice. Also adding SMS support, which will take it even further beyond whatsapp.

Thanks for knowing what is best for me! Your the greatest. Also that .apk didn't work.
I love how some of you are such little fanboys that you actually think the way they are handling this is "OK." If I wanted something shoved down my throat, I woulda bought an iphone. We are beta testing this festering turd for them...and I don't want to lose functionality being a beta tester with no option to revert back.
Hangouts is complete garbage in it's current state. It's current state makes it a good replacement for the MESSENGER app...except they didn't even include ****ing SMS. It is however not a good replacement for talk.
Talk is an IM app. The beauty was I could open talk, look at statuses, know where people were (desktop, mobile, etc), and talk to people on the fly. Now I have no ****ing idea who/what I am messaging, if they are sitting in a conference call, or if they are just bored at their computer at work. I also use to to communicate with my wife...when it is green she is at her desk...when it is away I will just call or SMS her and not expect an instant response. Now I just lob a message out there without knowing if I am interrupting her at work or if she will respond in a few hours or a few seconds.
I am also no longer available for video chat for the people using talk. My whopping 100 minutes cell phone plan means I rely on talk heavily to talk to my family and my wife with video chats. They want to get up with me...they just video message me. No cell phone minutes used. Now they have to message me to get me to invite them to a video call....because I am using the **** that is hangouts and for whatever reason I am no longer available for video chat.
So once again...this app sucks in its current state for MY uses. Being FORCED to be a beta tester isn't my idea of fun.
Anyways...still looking how to get back to just straight old TALK if anyone has any other ideas.

A beta test is an apt description. What other plausible explanation is there for leaving out such basic features as status icons / messages and voicechat?
I can understand various media outlets / blogs being fooled by the aesthetics (read: WhatsApp lookalike), but I expect logic to prevail on this forum and justifying the loss of features amounts to fanboyism in its purest form.

To my knowledge it doesn't work if you don't have a Google+ account.
I don't like that Google has forced users to choose between gtalk and hangouts, especially since they are listing several important features as forthcoming. I do however, understand them wanting to increase the adoption of g+ because when glass comes out the g+ features that it adds will be simply amazing and unless users are already used to, and actively using g+ they won't see any reason to have glass.
All in all I think it's a smart move by Google, unpopular yes, but still smart over the long term.
I'm just dealing with it for now, I wasn't a gtalk user so the loss of features doesn't bother me in the slightest, I'm only irked by the loss of choice.
LT
Hangouts sucks!
I do not like it.
In previous versions of JellyBam it can be downgraded, just uninstalling updates, but now in 8.4.0, I had to remove Hangouts, I prefer not having a Google IM than having Hangouts.
It seems that Google was bought by MS, they are doing things that show they do not care about people.
So Blackberry Messenger is now live. But I've its forced close like a dozen times in the last hour. Just me?
Btw add me 75e83757
It's live, but the waiting list makes it useless until you get in
A waiting list for a messenger is one of the most ridiculous things that I've heard this year. They obviously do not have the infrastructure in place to provide a cross platform service properly.
The little interest that I did have in Blackberry's last throw of the dice evaporated with that move. The only way I will install BBM now is if literally my entire contact list moves over to it and uses nothing else (not likely).

I can't help feel BlackBerry have shot themselves in the foot here. BBM for BlackBerry has remained, as it always was, a paid service. Yet the BBM on other platforms is free. Makes no sense. Surely it's freeing up everyone who wanted a BB for BBM to just move to say Android for the greater choice of handsets, better specs etc... and free BBM. Not a great business move at all. Idiots. That's all I can say. Even putting ads in BBM could have helped saved their asses. Imagine the audience BBM will get, 1 million downloads of the LEAKED app alone. They are kissing goodbye to some great opportunities here. But hell, I'm android now. Screw BlackBerry and their weird market strategy.

Because there is a waiting list, presumably because they haven't got enough servers to handle demand. Probably the same reason they halted the rollout last month, despite blaming people with the leaked apk.

Actually seeing as with BB10 the devices no longer require a blackberry data plan(shocking to me really) then it is free for all newer devices which is probably why they probably decided to open it up to other platforms.
As for the app itself, no force closes on my device, was unable to add contacts the 1st night I got to register but then by the next morning it was all working smoothly.

BBM has something of a cult style following. I personally hate WhatsApp. It's user interface is ugly and it doesn't always notify me or my other half that we actually have sent each other messages. Plus bbm you don't have to have the contact in your phone book. Which is always a good thing.

I've used Whatsapp every day for 3 years (as does the entire country) and it always notifies. Probably user error.
Actually not needing an account (as it uses your contacts) is one of the greet things about Whatsapp, because you don't need an account that you need to sign in to or add eachother. It's just like SMS but free plus group conversations, free image/video send etc.

Hardly user error considering I've used it since it hit Android and know my way round the very simple app very well. Probably more a phone error. I'm on an XZ with various mods, my other half's on an iPhone 4, which doesn't accept Whatsapp properly anyway. Worked perfectly on my HTC.

Since BBM groups are more of a social group rather than a discussion about a particular device, they are not appropriate for a device specific forum such as this one, and in the interest of keeping the forums clean we have decided to close all BBM threads in our assigned device specific forums.
Having said that, there are options still available to users that require the use of BBM groups as a medium for communication:
1) You may post your PINs, group info, etc., in the BBM for Android located in XDA General.
2) You can send your info through a private message to the OPs of existing BBM group threads.
3) You can include your PIN, QR code, or group info in your signature.
Since BBM groups are a relatively new topic on XDA, it is still possible that certain accomodations could be made sometime in the future depending on the overall need. Until then, the decision to close all BBM threads in our area will remain in effect so we appreciate your understanding and cooperation on the matter.
Thank you
So I was all excited about it, the new Hangout and today I installed it. Now let me get this straight, the SMS feature, that will just replace my native messaging app and I will be sending SMS via Hangout instead of my native app, and it will be sent normally via my carrier. I mean why on earth would one use this feature? What am I missing here? What's the point?
Same here... In my case the most annpying thing is that it doewnt allow to cuztomize who shows and who doesnt, i have now a lot of people that i dont care just for following them on g+...

Yeah exactly. If iPhone 5C is the most ridiculous device of this planet, then this so called 'upgrade' of G-Talk to Hangout is the most ridiculous software update ever made
God I am so happy I kept Talk's backup in several places.:victory:
I used to be able to do this on my tmo m8, but don't have an option with this phone. Don't know if it's Sprint or Marshmallow, but it's extremely annoying!
I have a contact called spam which houses all of my telemarketing and other annoying callers and would like to configure it to just send those to voicemail. Is this not possible at all now? And if not, wtf?

You can block it from the call log or go online to the sprint site and block it

Thanks, but that only works for the number. I have something like 30 numbers in that contact at least! I should be able to just block that contact entirely.

Is that a sprint or marshmallow thing? Well, now that I think of it, my old phone was rooted and I was running roms on them. So perhaps it was something was always built into the roms I was using. Still, seems like a really simple, yet effective feature. Don't understand why sprint or google doesn't include that feature.
Not sure but I've been with Sprint for 9 years, and been like that as long as I can remember

I use Extreme call blocker & it works wonders. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greythinker.punchback
I use to use root call blocker on my M9 which was amazing till the mm update which broke it.
However this app is just as good and no root required. Doesn't affect battery life and it just does it's job and stays out of the way. It's not free but that's a good thing in my eyes, no ads and support got back to me lightning quick if you have an issue but I can confirm it works wonderful on this phone. There is a slight delay when a junk call comes in so phone might go off for a second but I'm guessing this is due to no root access but it's still pretty quick and will keep your call logs clean. Mine is setup to block all calls unless you are in my contacts and other calls get sent to voicemail so if it's important they can leave a message.

Thanks! It appears they do have a free version of this that blocks the calls, but not the text messages. I never had a problem with the texts, just the calls, so this could be perfect! I installed it last night and now I'm kinda hoping for another spam call soon so I can see it in action. Thanks again!

Yea I just bought the paid version right away, I like to support great devs anyway. I shut off SMS blocking, could be something I use in the future. Yea you can see the phone light up when a spam call comes in. Mainly I like it for keeping my logs clean and not bothering me for numbers I don't want to talk to which is everyone not in my contact list.

Same here. Did you try linking the numbers into one contact?
Personally I hate that option. For me there have always been unintended consequences.

Yeah, I have a contact called spam and in the past I've been able to set it to go directly to voicemail. I guess that was a feature of the ROMs I was using. Yet another reason to need root on this phone!!
