Help. Bricked found the cause - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I feel my install storage is corrupted so rsd Is not able to flash things into internal memory. Whatever I flash, even a cmx sbf, I get the same stock android symbol and the checksum verification fails for all except cg31 and cg32. I need to reformat my internal memory before I flash .for the I need custom recovery. With a locked bl, internal memory is not formattable. Exactly my /system partition is corrupted. If there any update.zip which can format /system partition?

Okay I ve found the options.
1. I need an update.zip which I need to use from stock recovery to format /system
Or
2. I need to format /system through rsd lite..or some other software similar to this? Is there Ny?

Flashing any SBF with RSD will fix your partitions; I know this because I've had damaged partitions before. I don't think a corrupt /system partition is your problem, I think your internal memory might be physically failing.

Why do I get the classic android boot animation whatever sbf I flash? A and I've seen many ppl complaining if boot looping after flashing a sbf if it formats partitions

I thought you said you weren't getting a boot animation and it was taking you straight to stock recovery? You're going to have explain yourself better. If you're getting a boot loop in the boot animation, and you can still access stock recovery, then through there wipe /data and /cache and it'll boot up. You almost always need to wipe /data after flashing an SBF.
I don't know if it formats partitions or not, I just know that it fixes them.

I ve tried sbf ing with both rsd and sbf flash in linux. Nothing worked.
Wherever sbf I flash, I get one same boot animation bootlooping.
The device fails on checksum verifications during flash. This tells the rsd has problems with internal memory.
If the internal memory has failed permanently, why would it read the bootanimation?.weird
Most probably its corrupted

Ive tried /data /cache wipe through stock recovery.
And defy doesnt flash properly. Every flash fails with checksum errors.
I thought I could access custom recovery if I flash fixed sbf with custom rom but defy acts like sbf is never flashed. Because if I access bootmenu, I can format system partition

Restore problems on cwm 5.0.2.7 mtd

None of my mtd backups will restore on cwm... the md5 check goes through, well actually everything goes through and then it tries to boot and goes through the boot ani and then goes to a black screen... it is happening on every mtd rom I try to back up... clean gb mtd marcusant v2 mtd and legendary that I have converted to mtd... any ideas?
Edit- just realized I put cem and not cwm as the subject... my bad... don't know how to change it... any help with that to?
Edit2- ok now the same thing is happening when I flash a theme... very confusing... this has never happened to me before... I am wiping properly and mounting /system and then unmounting... reboot.. gets about halfway through the boot animation and then black screen and won't boot... any ideas?

"To restore data from a nandroid backup:1.Mount your sdcard as USB storage

3.Rename system.rfs.tar to system.yaffs2.tar, data.rfs.tar to data.yaffs2.tar
4.Open the nandroid.md5 file, replace all rfs in the filenames with yaffs2
5.Save/close, unmount USB, and reboot into recovery
6.Advanced restore data (And system if you really want). Only advanced restore, or else it will give you a BML kernel and recovery, which wont boot
7.Reboot!
(If you were on ext4, just replace rfs with ext4)
If you want your previous Rom, advanced restore system too."

I was able to do a NAND backup restore on MTD via CWM 5.0.2.7 but I had to go into advanced options and mount both system and data before the restore would take
Also, did you do the backup AFTER your recovery was converted to MTD or BEFORE?
If before, that may be your issue, and you can just follow the steps for the BML to MTD rom backup conversion to fix it
If after, it may be worth it to double check that the nand does not say ext4 or rfs in it

Yes I did it after the conversion to mtd... I am on the clean gb mtd rom... so the rom converted me to mtd and I then got everything set up and did a backup and the went to restore it a couple hours later and it wouldn't restore... the thing is it restoores all the way but it won't boot all the way. Gets to the boot animation and then goes black... I tried mount system and data but still nothing... I have already odined back and reflashed the rom... immediately did a backup and then it restored fine... so it may have been a bad flash or something idk... but themes will still not boot... I mount system, flash, then un mount... it boots and the boot animation was changed from the clean gb boot ani to the themes boot animation but then it goes black and won't boot all the way up. Good thing my backup restores now ;-)... any ideas?

If you read my original post you would see that I said that I mounted system... it took because it changed the boot animation but after the animation it goes to a black screen and stays there and never finishes booting...

I had to mount both system and data to do a restore
Also, did you do an advanced restore and just restore system and data, or did you do a standard restore?
Also, once I have done a restore, I always reflash my kernel of choice before rebooting.

I guess for the ROM hoppers, they would need to Odin back before the first install, then they can make a backup of the ROM and do that for all the ROMs they like to switch between. Then can just reestore them.

[Q] Q Any way to help? ZTE Blade bricked

Hi all. Sorry fo my bad English - I'm russian.
Ok, I have a bricked ZTE Blade - GEN2, China 256Mb RAM.
I've read this topic modaco com/topic/343587-guide-de-bricking-a-zte-blade/
I have some problems, thats why I'm asking for some help.
1) I've used Method 5: The dodgy ZTE firmware flasher
At the point Flash Firmware - 6)When finished it should boot into FTM mode. - but it doesn't.
I've took out the battary, and rebooted my phone in the FTM-mode. Succesfully restored IMEI (got no errors).
And then:
Put clockworkmod in the recovery partition
Take out the battery and turn on the phone. Clockworkmod should load
There is no ClockWork! Only FTM...
Installed ClockWork via cmd script. It has loaded, but here is the next problem:
"You can now flash a ROM"
I've tried to flash Swedish_Spring_RLS5. So I mounted system and data.
Installation ok, but if i reboot i get clockwork.
Tried to flash image.bin from zte-website. If i reboot after the installation i get clockwork.
Tried to get stock recovery. Installed it via cmd script, but it doesn't load.
I get FTM-mode.
There is no phone-workshop in my city, and I have no more warranty for this smartphone, so i hope you can help me. Thanks.
At the beggining the problem was - the boot was down. The splash appeares, slides to right, the phone reboots.
Try reflashing clockworkmod and do a full wipe.
It might also help if you format system.

Ok, reinstalled cwm, have done all wipes, formatted system, data.
Tried to flash.
Nothing. Reboot => CWM
Does the rom flash process success?
Try flashing another rom.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
yes
yes, it does. i get no errors, and
there are files in the system partiton.
when i make a backup i see all the files from the os.
have tried. cm7, cm9, other stock: 2.1, 2.3 - every gives the same result - only cwm is loading.
when i flash the stock recovery - then i get only ftm on load.
is my phone totally bricked? i hope there is a way to restore...
It's semi-bricked. You could try to flash stock rom with ftm and root it with z4root.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
ok
ok. i will try P729J_2GW900V2.2.0B01-NO_RECOVERY-update_signed.zip
will update this message when done.
--- upd
tried:
1) china tpt's
2) all wipes and formats
3) all mounts + flashing Swedish_Spring_RLS5
4) boot.img via adb
result: ANDROID Loaded, but the hardware keys are not working... UrbanDrawer, any ideas?
Just reflash rom and wipe data.
If the problem didn't get fixed, flash another rom.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
no success
Flashed a stock China ROM.
No success. Boot info FTM. No way to boot the system...
Tried another ROM's for 512Mb models - same result: FTM-mode :crying:
Any other ideas?

Before doing this, you could also hard reset the phone, that way there's not going to be any software-related problems.

what i do
Ok. What i do.
1) Launch ZTE Flasher, swich my phone into download mode (vol+/vol-/power)
2) Flash IT (China v880 Firmware)
3) When finished - release battery.
Turn on and get FTM-mode, no clockword or smth. else. Only FTM.
4) TPT's : China v880 GEN2 TPT's.
When finished - the phone doe's not reboot. Need to release the battery, and to power on.
5) Oh my God! Yellow CWM!!!
I mount data,system.
All wipes.
Format all, except SD.
6) Flashing ROM.
7) Reboot.
After the reboot I get CWM (on stock rom's) or FTM (after CM).
What am I doing wrong?
Try method 1.

AOKP rom

So i got my nexus 4 yesterday and Ive always wanted to root an android phone and install a custom rom. So i unlocked the bootloader and rooted it pretty easy. I want to flash AOKP rom. i downloaded the rom file and google apps from their website on the phone. I went into CWM recovery and installed those files from the sd card, and it says its complete. I reboot the device and it just sits on the nexus logo screen. I dont know what i did wrong. Anybody got any ideas
It's normal for it to sit on that screen for about a minute or so.. How long did you give it?

I believe that the stock recovery...
When you first boot cmw, it does not stay permanently afterwards...
You can flash it again by downloading ROM manager??
Or somthing else..
Maybe use adb+fastboot to flash ROM..
Just to try if the files aren't broken.

You can't flash a ROM in fastboot, you can only flash images.
You can flash the recovery image through fastboot.
I would let it sit for more than just 3-4 minutes as well.

[Q] Strange Bootlooping

Hi XDA Users.

After hacking with ADB (mounting, copying system files, hacking with 2ndinit etc.) my phone via TWRP cloudn't mount /system nor /data. So I thought "I ll'falsh an SBF, maybe I fried the partition table...". Flashed DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CN_SIGN_UCADEFYEMARAB1B50AA009.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRIRD15_P015_A030_Service1FF via sbf_flash (This SBF Always Worked) and rebooted. But my phone is not working. It loads the bootloader and , just before the second boot animation it shut down and reboots. Bootloader works, Recovery Works (Tried to wipe data/cache, no solution), even Charge Mode. But it won't boot. Can Someone Help me?
