[Q] Verizon LG G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to ask you guys a fairly obscure question.
I installed the popular MobilityWare Solitaire (sorry, can't post outside links yet.. google "download solitaire mobilityware" and it's the first google play link) on my new LG G2 (ok I know, don't judge me).
So here's the weird part. At a fairly simple animation window when you beat the game, the game stutters and lags like crazy! Coming from a galaxy nexus, I know this doesn't occur.. and I worry that at worst-case, it's a specific GPU call that might be causing some stutters, though much likely it's something simpler.
Would any of you who have the LG G2 (I have the verizon version) try this out and see if you can duplicate the issue? I'd be extremely grateful! You do the following:
1. Press Play -> Winning Deal
2. Beat the game (should be easy.. ), and a pop-up shows up once you're clear - "Do you want to auto complete?" - press yes.
At this point, the crazy laggy animation ensues. What's strange is, it's not like the phone's lagging.. I can click home or out and be back quickly. I've also tried running Antutu benchmarks with the expected amazing results from this phone.

I play this game a lot and on the s4 it is smooth and fast.
Like you, on the G2 AT&T it is very laggy in the animations. So it us not just you.

Interesting.. I'd like to know if other LG G2 users are seeing similar lags or animation issues, not necessarily just on solitaire. I'm not really sure what the issue might be - could be as simple as faulty coding on MobilityWare but that seems unlikely as I haven't heard any complaints from anyone else about this game.
Any thoughts on what might be the issue?

Possibly not optimized for snapdragon 800 chips

graphics issues

Hey I just got my g2. Incredible phone, there is a learning curve however. I'm not quite used to the dimensions and button the back, but I have only been using it for a couple days so I'll give it t some time. The screen and camera are the best I've ever seen(not counting the nokia1020).
The biggest issue for me right now is performance. Switching in and out of apps and navigating apps is pretty choppy. Had this been 3 years ago the speed would be great but I'm comparing it to my galaxy s4 and iPhone 5 side by side and the scrolling on some web pages and apps is frustratingly slow. I was wondering if anyone is seeing the same kind of performance?
No, my phone is flying. No lags whatsoever. I would try a master reset and see if that helps.

Same here, fastest Android phone I ever dealt with. Experience is better then N4, just with a load of junk... Cyanogenmod for us will make it better!

Since your coming from anexus 4, which was my favorite android phone besides the camera. How are you doing with the size difference? I have larger than average size hands and I have to bounce the phone around in my hand to reach things I need to press at the top of the screen. Never had that problem with the nexus or my gs4.
I'm coming from a N4 too (I'll get the phone the G2 this week) I'll miss vanilla, but the battery life, camera, and larger screen will MORE than make up for that with the G2.
do me a favor and try youtube, asphalt 8, riptide gp, etc etc. (heavy 3d games) everything is choppy for me but the choppiness is rhythmic for some odd reason
First off, what launcher are you using? I think alot of people that get lagged that are caused by a poorly written app, and assume its the phones fault. Only good way to tell will be factory reset, and run it that way a bit. All good then add ur apps back one at a time, testing it between apps, and that will pinpoint which app is the issue...
I've been getting some random gitter/lag with the ui as well, just tested in antutu got 30,000 then a second time got 26,000. Isn't the g2 supposed to get like 35k?
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk 4
Just so I could make a statement based on fact I downloaded Riptide GP 2 to see if I got any lag or stuttering, I played 2 races with no lag or slowdown. Then I went into the graphic settings but everything was already maxed out by default, I ended up playing for 20 more minutes and its a very fun game lol. So yep it just went thru the game like butter the way you would expect it to..

Horn

Back when I had the Droid Bionic the play store had a 25 cent sale on apps and I had bought the game Horn because it looked cool. Once I downloaded it, because my phone was supported and tried running it it failed to run, hence all the bad reviews the game got. It never received an update to have it run on that phone so I gave up for a while. Changing to a Galaxy Nexus didn't help either.
Anyway the LG G2 runs Horn flawlessly. I recommend this game. I haven't played a game with better graphics on a phone yet. Sometimes in the distance you'll see a little graphics glitch, but it's really minor and doesn't affect anything.
Uh hello, how do you write such an intriguing post without a play link?

Hmm mine just closes when I try to run it. sadday
Edit: Nevermind, got it. How does it run for you? Slight lag sometimes for me.
Thanks for the link holeshot.
Just about no lag for me. If any it's a hair and since the best phones were much weaker than the G2 when this game came out then it should be running great on this phone.
How? please
I really want to play this game on my LG G2 with Kitkat 4.4.2 T-mobile version, please tell me what do you do to make this game to run on your phones.

Anyone else noticing lag?

Picked up the Note 3 yesterday and so far I'm loving it, however, there have been a handful of times where the device has lagged or momentarily froze. Not only does it hang, but the app crashes too. This has happened with the built-in Samsung apps.
If I remember correctly, I was bouncing around my home screen and app drawer (TouchWiz). I specifically remember swiping up from the bottom to open Flipboard, it hung, then I got a message stating My Magazine has crashed and stopped..
This is not what I was expecting from my new Note 3 :crying:
EDIT: Also, the screen doesn't come on instantly when I click the lock button. There's usually a slight delay.
yeah i get minor lag every now and then but i find that normal as i have ALOT of apps running... i was haing tw home FC, i think it FCed 3 or 4 times didnt happen again but i still uninstalled it via tibu cuz i am using nova instead... as for the waking lag yeah i get that sometimes as well but not all the time.... some widgets like the clock widget i have on my homscreen/lockscreen take 5-10 secs to load...
PS- btw this question belongs in the Q&A section, not the general section

It all depends on your definition of "lag." There's the occasional stutter or drag working with or within certain apps or combination of apps but for the most part the N3's incredibly fluid. Everyone here uses a different combination of apps with some varying in quality from outdated crap to highly polished. So everyone's experiences are going to be different. That, along with different wireless and sync environments, is why people’s battery stats are all over the place.
I have 131 apps on my device and haven't experienced a FC or any strange behavior and I've been using the phone for almost two weeks.

I know "lag" is a very subjective term, so I'll try to give you a specific example I just experienced:
Browsing in Facebook, I open someone's photostream. I click a photo and nothing happens. I click an album and it highlights, but doesn't open. Click another picture.. nothing. So I lock the screen and unlock it and it works.
This has also happened when browsing through Google Play and trying to download apps. I search, click the app, but it doesn't open. It just highlights the item I clicked.
--
I haven't seen one of the Samsung apps crash on me since yesterday, but then again, I haven't used my phone much today, and I'm using Nova instead of the TouchWiz launcher.
very occasionally touch barely works , only spen works. reboot clears it.
very rarely also I get an app hang or Fc, not even rooted yet. but overall runs like a dream.
I know if this was a custom or ASOP ROM, I wouldnt have those issues.

letsgophilly, do you have the octa version?
or the snapdragon 800?
The Snapdragon 800 is super fluid for me.
You might need to wait until Samsung brings the HMP update to the octa variant if you have it.
---------- Post added at 01:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:52 PM ----------
PS: the item highlight issue in the PlayStore is a playstore bug and is not "lag".
The fix is clicking another item, going back and reselecting what you originally wanted.
This happens occasionally.

I'm looking in the About Phone section but I don't see anything regarding the CPU. I believe it's the Snapdragon 800. I'm in the United States. Verizon is my carrier.
I'm thinking this "lag" is due to software bugs like you mentioned.

You have the S800 version.
Bugs it is then, Google will have to fix the playstore, also Samsung has to fix that "My Magazine" thing, I mean it runs fast but the first load and the updating is quite slow and buggy.
Other than that, It's fast everywhere I noticed, and it should be with that hardware.

There's no such thing as a "SM-900" or "SM-9005" ROM. Each regional ROM is different and can have different versions of Samsung's own apps and third party apps that are bundled with it. So one region could have force closes out-of-the-box while another doesn't.
I'll give you an example. When the N10.1 came out people were complaining they couldn't import PDFs in to S Note. After researching it, based on region, there were almost a dozen different versions of S Note used in the various ROMs Samsung deployed worldwide. Two of those versions were borked and couldn’t import PDFs. And that was within 90 days of the N10.1's release. So it's very possible that the strange behavior people are reporting could be regional. OP and I both have U.S. versions of the SM-9005 but are on two different carriers. So if he's experiencing the behavior he described after a hard reset it's probably something unique to his carrier's (Verizon) version of the s/w.
Well then, poor exynos buyers, I was tempted to get one for that lone reason, no I don't regret passing it at all and getting the 9005.

Can you confirm a wake lag?
This was an issue on the Note II as well. Even when disabling S-Wake and all that stuff, it still had a delay.
I was always led to believe it was a "feature" of the exynos with the way it handled sleeping. I was hoping that the Qualcomm processor would not have this issue???

I definitely see wake lag. I just clicked my home button and the display turned on almost a full second later.
I have power button lag. Takes a full second after pressing the power button to sleep sometimes. Clearing processes from RAM usually solves this.

I have the snapdragon I am getting FC in Lots of apps. Also getting the occasional unresponsive touch. My note 2 firmly in my wife's hands never hiccuped in the 12 months I used it. Loving the N3 but to be honest the N2 was the best phone I ever owned it's still like new and flies. I remember lots of similar stories with the early N2 having problems. Maybe there are hood and bad ones. The N2 is the first phone I haven't rooted or used a launcher on. Tried, next. Apex. Nova, Themer, and aviate so far on the N3. My brain tells me everything on the N3 is better, but my heart says different. I have had the N3 since launch here in Europe on the 25th so had plenty of time with it. Factory reset I think. Must say the stock video player with good headphones is amazing. Watch a movie streaming last night with surround sound, amazing.

give the n3 a chance to receive a few updates before you make up your mind. also could be initial hardware that is faulty, the very first note 2 i got had quite a few issues. sold and bought a new one few months later and that one lasted me until n3.
Just as a thought maybe a 4.3 android thing, I know when my old N7 got 4.3 it was not as stable as the previous version, also my note 8.0 and note 2 are fast more stable than my Note 3. Unloaded a load of app today and it seems better, it is fast and I am sure Samsung will issue updates. Be interesting to see how the N2 and S4 deal with version 4.3

Lag Test Results Video

Hello guys,
I thought I'd start a new thread on this lag issue because I'd like people to try all the apps I tried and to post their results like this:
1/ App Drawer slow move - Same / Better / Worse
2/ Facebook feed - Same / Better / Worse
etc etc...
The YouTube video is HERE
A downloadable version (smoother than YouTube) is HERE
I'd be very interested to hear what you find. Also state whether you have Snapdragon or Exynos and which build..
Let the games begin!
Mark.
Is it jerking or buffering from a slow internet connection? I don't notice that much jerking on my Note 4 (Exynos), but I'm interested in seeing what other people say.
I have the Exynos and yes if I try to scroll really slowly it doesnt immediately respond but when would you ever want to scroll that slowly and to be fair it is a like a millisecond of lag, geez to me this device is a huge improvement on UI lag than any previous Samsung device I have owned. Just my opinion but it seems like nit picking at a non issue really, but of course thats your opinion.

are you ok with the terrible jerky lag on facebook google+ pulse hangouts etc...??
I have a 73mb download on my phone, so no, the speed of the internet has zero to do with this.
Come on, how about more thorough testing guys, dont just defend your phone, it is a great phone, but I want to see some real testing!

I'll be honest, I've just tried the same tests on the same apps (no Facebook, but the Pages app), and I'm not seeing the same lag. If there is any, it's a very minor stutter maybe once, that I'd attribute to buffering.
Are you on power Save or anything else that could be slowing the device down?

Hi
Nope, I have not tweaked anything on the phone, my Antutu scores are fine... and with the first Note4 I had, I tried ART and also choosing to Force GPU Rendering, but they made no difference.
Are you on snapdragon?
I guess the "buffering" is the whole problem. It seems touchwiz makes it worse, but then some apps are better than others, like the Air BnB test I did, it was very smooth even when photos were still being downloaded and rendered. There is a noticeable difference between my note 4 and my Nexus 5...

I have an Exynos device. Buffering is the only real lag that I see. Yes, there's a very slight stutter on certain lists (like my contacts, which has over 1500 people on it, most with photo avatars showing), but nothing like what I see in your video.

Bad game performance

Hey just wanted to know if anyone was experiencing lag in games. I turned off all game options in package disabler pro and it fixed the brightness issue but still having FPS issues. I play Order and Chaos 2 and on my Note 5 it performs beautiful, on this phone it's laggy and choppy. I can't figure out if it's a graphic issue, optimization issue, or a network issue with this phone. Please any input is greately appreciated!
Some games I play run perfectly smooth but others run choppy. Hearthstone for example. That game lags worse than it did on my GS5 and couldn't even come close to the smoothness of my 6S+. Royal Clash runs great though. Super smooth with no hangup. Asphalt 8 also runs good which is odd being how it's graphics are more intense than Hearthstone.

Which version are you using? Maybe it's just optimization problem.
I'm using the snapdragon 820 version of the s7e... and maybe it is an optimization problem because idk I play the game a lot and it's aggravating me to the point I'm wondering if I should return the phone within my 14 day window... I can't see much of an increase over the Note 5 aside from the camera and the size lol

So is this a problem with the game makers themselves or is it a phone problem? Or both? I'm debating on returning this phone and going back to my note 5... this phone processor is better and smoother, I love the always on display, and just everything else about it but it's not a drastic difference from the Note 5 though. Also even with the font on minimal extra tiny things still look huge on here compared to the Note lol

I don't know then. All i know is over in the Hearthstone forums, everyone with Galaxy S 6's are also complaining about lag and bugs. Maybe it's a combination of Snapdraggon CPU's, Marshmallow and Samsung.

Maybe... not sure it's just so annoying lol
The only strange I've found is Minecraft PE. It runs smoother on my 2012 Nexus 7 than on my Exynos S7 Edge. But that's clearly an optimisation problem rather than hardware being unable to manage the game, because this phone is at least five times more powerful.
I would suggest against returning your phone for this issue. It's clearly a software issue which I am sure Samsung will fix. I am having the screen dimming and choppiness with Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. I had no issues on my S6 Edge before installing Marshmallow. Now I have the same issue on the S7 edge along with the color saturation issue. Most new phones usually have at least one update that addresses the issues once it hits the mass market.
There is supposed to be a update for Hearthstone soon to fix graphical issues, which could also fix lag. In the meantime, delete the game's cache/data and give it another shot.
And as mentioned above, disabling game service by Samsung helps with lag and color issues.

That only helps with the color levels, has little to no impact on games with actual performance problems on the S7.

It didn't fix it and the game is still choppy. I ran it side by side with my iPhone 6s+ and it was no contest. It's so smooth on the 6+ my S7 looked and felt like an atari.

I'm not entirely sure what's causing this lag but it's definitely an isolated issue, only few people have it.
Could you give more info on your device? Also, do you have apps that run and/or monitor all the time? Some people reported random apps that they hadn't even install draining their battery and/or slowing down their phone (ei.: Pocket).
