SlingBox - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need your opinion, settings, overall experience using Slingbox when tethering.
I can tether with no problem to my laptop using native hotspot from the rom I am using,
selecting IE8 from firefox as the user agent I can pretty much go everywhere but when go to slingbox site it
requires to install it's own player but then opens IE by default and t-mobile blocking page kicks in.
I used to do all that with no much modification before but not any more so anyone using slingbox
successfully please give your input.
Basically I can't access slingbox site when tethering but every other site have no problems.

I use chrome and installed the sling box plugin. Works fine over tethered connection. OS is windows 7.

File sharing over a Wi-Fi network ~ Done using Solid Explorer

Guys,
Getting a Nexus 7 today but have one question on file sharing over a Wi-Fi network.
On all my other Android devices I use Solid Explorer Beta2 and connect direct to my Laptop to share files.
I have heard this is not possible with the Nexus 7 or at least it has been mentioned in the User Reviews.
So, question being can I share files between my Laptop and Nexus 7 over Wi-Fi using either Solid Explorer, ES File Explorer or any other similar App?
Update:
After obtaining my Nexus 7 later that day I installed Solid Explorer and managed without any issues or problems to get the App to connect via Wi-Fi to my Laptop.
Thank you to all who took their time and effort into providing me with their recommendations.
I use samba file sharing on my android in order to create my own workgroup with my PC, and use ES file manager to browse my PC, with this way you can transfer any file from PC to your phone

Thanks.... although to use Samba you need root and that unfortunately is not an option I will be doing.
The thing is though, surely we should still be able to share files over Wi-Fi to our PC's/Laptops directly using third-party apps as I mentioned above.
This is a very general question you ask. Did you try Airdroid? Simple and nice file sharing over the browser . For bigger files > 1gig I would use adb.

As I mention in my opening post I don't have the Nexus 7 yet, I'll be picking one up sometime today.
I agree it should be a general question but I noted in the Google Play review comments where users using Solid Explorer could not connect over Wi-Fi to their Laptops.
General question it may be but it would be nice to hear if there are any issues in connecting wirelessly to Laptops/PC's using third-party apps as in Solid Explorer, ES File Explorer etc.
Basically I don't use USB for any of my file transfers (unless they are large files that is), I always use either WIfi transfer or Cloud (Dropbox/Box).
Es file explorer.

If I understand what you are trying to do, this might be the app for you. I bought this for devices I either couldn't root or didn't want to root. Works pretty good.

When you say it works fine does it answer my question in working fine at Wi-Fi File Transfer with your Windows PC/Laptop.

Thanks Guys, I'll look at these but I would prefer if Sold Explorer worked over Wi-Fi File Transfer.
Well, well, well...... I finally managed to pick up my Nexus 7 late this evening and the first thing I did after doing the initial setup was to install Solid Explorer Beta 2.
So, with it running I switched on the Laptop and set the App to scan for the wireless connection.
BINGO, it found my Laptop first time and connected without a hitch.
I have the two successfully paired together and am happily transferring a number of files at 1.69MB/s over to the Nexus 7. Obviously for large files I will use a USB cable but in the meantime Job Done.
Next step will be to hop on over to Google Play and leave my comments against those who said you can not carry out wireless transfers using the App.
I would like to thank all those who took their time and effort into providing me with their information.
I'll now edit the topic title and remove the question mark at the end.
Thanks again guys.
another vote for es file explorer...have been using it with samba share s for quite a while...

In the past, many good application have come and gone but 2 applications I would suggest as they can be used with a laptop or computer to serve up files via the local IP example 192.166.0.23 is my box in the den of my local server both the apps I will share can accomplish shares like you are trying to achieve whereas the local IP is what you set in each application. Keep in mind you can also add the hostname if you have one resolving to the local computer you are using. Basically you can use a free DNS server like dynu to give your computer a hostname like http://mycomputer.net and you can access it locally or by the hostname.
The absolute best options are : Everything Server Soft
and http-explorer
http-explorer can only be found on my social network as the company went out of business in 2010 but I have saved a copy of the awesome application and both options will allow you to access your files from any device anywhere anytime.

A way to get around that is to use Firefox as your PC internet.
Phones don't apply tho, there UA strings show as mobile.

Piggybackign onto this thread...
I definitely would like to be able to get access to all the AT&T hotspots that come in carrier-ridden phones. I use AT&T's service so hopefully it wouldn't be a hard thing to do? I'm assuming it's not possible.

Download pdanet, WiFi tether app, or any tethering app on the play store.

Sorry to piggy back onto this topic but is it possible on AT&T if I download a tethering app such as the ones mentioned above that I could tether my nexus 10 free of charge? (As in them not cancelling my unlimited and putting me on a more expensive limited tethering plan).

I don't think there is any different configuration to connect with PlayStation. You may check after changing the default Wi-Fi authentication protocol (WPA2)
hmm, i connected and logged in using my user and went into NBA2k13 and downloaded the updates
is that answers your question?

Are you using the built-in tethering app? Do you ever get redirects to the t-mobile upsell page when you use tethering on your computer?
For me, I can't even connect on my computer without either using Opera Browser or a UA-String change in Firefox. But I cannot do anything to make the PS3 not detect that I'm on t-mobile and block my connection. The PSN connection just "times out" because t-mo is blocking it.
Arrgghh
Edit: just saw you are in Beirut, not even on T-Mo USA I'm assuming lol. That could be why you have luck and I don't. DAMNIT!
I'd try using a 3rd party tether app. Namely the one that has its own google code page.

I've tried WiFi Tether, the TrevE version, foxFi, barnacle, pdanet.... none of them allow me to bypass the tmo upsell redirect.

I have had similar issues tethering my PS3.
Carrier: T mobile 70/month unlimited plan
Phone: Nexus 4
Initially, tethering worked for all PS3 applications (PSN, browser, netflix, system update). Then, they blocked PSN activity after a month or so. A few months later they blocked browser, but I could still use netflix and do system updates. Now nothing works. I have tried to use a wifi repeater in between the PS3 and Nexus 4 but still no dice, though I did not experiment too much with settings?
Id love to get my PS3 back online.

You guys really shouldn't use your phone data's download to download updates or games. Just use it to play online. It doesn't use up bandwidth to play. Heck I can play black ops 2 for an hour with tether and I use up like 30mb an hour. If you use it for downloading you're really going to have a red flag on your account.

Not trying to download a game. Just trying to download the blimp in gta. It's only a few kb I've heard. Also pdanet didn't work for me. I'm on carbon rom on my Nexus 4 and my wife also has carbon rom on her gs3. Her phone tethers perfectly. Any other tips?

Can you please provide more info on how this works?
What about NON browser applications? I have a Windows 8 laptop that gets frequent updates that can be quite large.. Should I stop using Chrome and start using IE8?
No use Chrome you can use the user agent switcher in Chrome it's an extension, change it to ie8 that way you can use the browser everything else tends to just work from torrents to updates, you will have to retest the anti virus updates see if they still allow it (I haven't used windows since August)
The hotshot app. Should be in setting >wireless networks >tethering and hotspot
