install the google voice app, then set it up to use your google voice number when maling calls via your default dialer.
I have installed the Google voice app and and I'm using the stock dialer... Gvoice is using the number i want and I'm texting from that... I just don't see where to set it up to make calls from that number ... It was ported from a Sprint account, and on the actual google voice account page it has a sprint logo on it...anything special I need to do?

from sprint i have no idea. but i have it set to ask me which number to use every time before i call. that option comes up when you first install google voice, as youre setting it up.
I can't help you with Sprint Google Voice integration. With regular Google Voice you just set it up in google.com/voice, in the Calls tab of Settings.
Then make calls using the Google Voice app. Or you can use GrooveIP or Talkatone.

Have you tried the settings in GVoice app? Do you see "Making calls"? If yes, select that and then choose "Ask every time when making calls" then the app will ask each time you make a call or "use GVoice for all calls"
Using the Google Voice app is the way to go, when you set it up remember to select "Ask every time" or "Use every time" and when you enter a number or dial from your contact directory, it must have all 10 digits or the GV app won't route the call, even on a local call...
Google Voice turned on:
Dial 222-1234 - Goes out via carrier
Dial 202-222-1234 - Goes out via Google Voice
For some reason people just don't seem to get that sometimes.
so what had happened was I installed the app first, and didnt bring my tmo number in because i thought there was a charge for that. I later added it on the website when i realized there wasn't, and because i had already set up the app i never got that prompt you guys were talking about. So I cleared the data on the app and then it asked me what i wanted to make calls from. Thanks for the help.

My friend uses it on his laptop cuz he doesn't have a phone, so I figure I can give him my old hero to use gv on and have it as a little pmp when he's not in wifi spots.
It works using wifi, right?

No its not VOIP. if he wants to do that give him your hero and have him use skype. Google voice is another # that is just linked to your main cell #. When someone calls my Google voice it rings both my home phone, cell phone and my pc if its logged into google voice. whic ever I pick up gets the call. It can also do txt and voicemail. The main reason I use it is for work. I have that as my work # and give my true cell to friends. When I see a call coming in from GV I know its a work call.

Ohhhh that actually cleared it up for me! So gv would be like having dual sim cards lol nice!
so he should try skype? Isn't it $.10 a minute for skype calls? Or is that just for international calls?

Yes it use's minutes and I doubt it counts for m2m. When I was on att I set my GV number as one of my free #'s to call so any out or incoming calls for GV got counted for m2m. I have yet to get a sprint bill but I doubt it will count as m2m

Ya, I can confirm the comment above. Any outgoing call with Google Voice, from your mobile to another number, is considered a Mobile to Landline call (and is not considered part of mobile to mobile).
I use sprint, however, and pay $5 extra a month, adding my GV number as my Sprint-to-Home number. Since I've had my GV# as my primary number that I give out for the past few years, I use the app (free or donate) GV Callback. Basically, any time I make an outgoing call, it dials my own GV number, and routes the outgoing call through there.
Google voice basically assigns a unique (within your account *only*) phone number for each of your contacts. If you call or send a text to that unique number, it shows up on their end as coming from your Google Voice number.
The PITA is, Google changes this number periodically. If you have people SMSing your Google Voice number, and your receive it in Handcent (for example), you'll see what each of your contacts' access numbers are.
Using google voice to text has proven to be a problem. The tab was never activated and does not have a phone number associated with it so I cant associate the tab with my google voice number.

Go to IPKall and get a free #. Look at the VoIP call set up for Sprint in Dev forum. Once you have your own number that will associate with GV, it should work. Voice work (calling back) so I assume text should to.
I've done this just fine.i bought both my tabs outright from both sprint and at&t. Use sip droid with voice with out EVER having a number assigned to the tab.
Read what is stated above cause I did.

Ok if you have all the requirements installed. Then go to Google.com/voice on you PC and click on settings in there and create a Google voice phone number then link a phone number to your Google voice account like your real cell number or even your home number. Then don't use that number but use Google chat. Now when you open Google voice on your phone it should setup correctly. Then open grooveip sign in with your Google user and pass. Then in groove IP make a phone call. It will call from you new Google voice number. And if you call that number it will ring that phone because Google chat/talk is linking it.

Hey guys, I'm trying to get some support on setting up voicemail on the Nexus 4 for T-Mobile. I've been doing a couple of hours of research and haven't run across anything substantial. If anyone can help me that would be awesome!
Also note: I also tried downloading T-Mobile's voicemail app and it wouldn't set up properly. The app would say it couldn't setup properly at the time.

Never tried T Mobile Voice mail. I just have everything forwarded over to my Google Voice which provides Voice mail. That's always an alternative if you can't get the T Mobile one working.

Did you hold down 1 in the dial pad? It should take you directly to your voicemail or have you configure it. It worked that way for me when I was on contract and still works the same using prepaid.

Yup... I don't know why, but conditional call forwarding is not supported on any of the prepaid plans.

I sure did. It then says, "You've reached the voicemail system. If you have a mailbox on this system, press star...". I proceeded with star and entered my phone number and it says it's "invalid". Lost in terms of why it's asking that. I'm used to the general - setup your mailbox prompt. Some reason, it doesn't exist here.
T-Mobile visual voicemail app works for me. If you're on WiFi, turn it OFF during the initialization. Once you're all setup, you'll be good to go.

I didn't have any problems with my voicemail. I've had T-Mobile for a while and all I did was get a new sim card and had it activated and my voicemail was working with no problems at all with my Nexus. Also I found this from T-Mobile support...
"To access the voicemail main menu, follow these steps:
Note: Make sure you are not roaming when attempting to set up voicemail for the first time.
1.Dial 123 or hold down the 1 key
2.Press Send.
3.Enter the last 4 digits of your mobile number as your voicemail password.
4.Follow the tutorial to set up your voicemail password and greeting.
Note:
•If you decline to set up the voicemail password and/or greeting, the tutorial plays each time until you set up both the password and greeting. Therefore, it is optimal to activate both features during initial setup."
Also if that doesn't work try calling your cell number from your land line and hit * when you get your voicemail if it lets you.
Are calls to T-Mobile voicemail count toward 100 minutes($30 plan) limit?

I appreciate your help! I definitely thought the same. After contacting T-MO, they said that the feature has been turned off. I have no clue how this has happened when the only change has been me ordering a micro-sim and activating it.. Weird! But all is well..
Again, I truly appreciate your guy's help! You are awesome..
I downloaded Google voice and followed the set up y voicemail still goes through T-Mobile. I made sure in the options that it is set to Google voice buy its not working. I never used voice before am I missing something? Is it because I didn't port my number to Google voice because I would rather keep my number with the carrier. I guess I just want voice to be like the vvm app that I used from Sprint. Sorry for this noob questioni just don't know anything about it. I searched Google and YouTube but they weren't very helpful.

I'm going to assume you're on a prepaid plan.
You can't set up google voice in place of your T-Mobile voice mail. AT&T and Straight Talk allow it I do believe, but not Monthly4G from T-Mobile.
You can start giving out your GV number to people and set it up to ring your T-Mobile number. In order to get the mail to pass to your Google Voice and not get caught up in your T-Mobile VM. You'll need to set up to prompt people to say their name and you press 1 to accept. This isn't foolproof as you will still get VM's with your T-Mobile account, and it will be of the person saying their name... BUT you will get the actual VM in GV, and it will be transcripted, saved, and awesome.
It's annoying. But it's the only way I know.
So I'm switching to straight talk att next month because my T-Mobile voice coverage isn't that great. When I'm on strait talk Google voice will work like a vvm? With my regular phone number?

Yes. When setting up the GV app from scratch it will prompt you to change your VM. You can also do it manually. Basically instead of forwarding missed calls to st VM, it forwards to your GV number thus going to VM. If you do it manually, make sure your cell number is registered in gv.

You could attempt to set it up yourself.
Open the Dialer App, Press Menu (bottom Left corner) and select Settings.
Than Select "Voicemail"
Change Voicemail>Setup
Or still under Phone Settings. Scroll down to Call Forwarding
and set "Forward when busy" "Forward when Unanswered" "Forward when Unreachable"
to your Google Voice number (+1GVOICENUMBER)
and make sure your actual carrier supplied number has been added to your Google Voice allowed numbers.
