Try CyanogenMod or ParanoidAndroid...
PSX has it too, and pretty much every other rom based on cm has it.

FIXED by reboot - My Nexus 7 3g just upgraded to 4.2 and now I have no media sound and the volume rocker doesn't work. Even when I was use the touch screen to raise the volume, and I get no sound. Anyone else?

So I've had the n7 for a few weeks and love it. Running android 4.2 and nothing rooted. The 1 thing that annoys me most is that the volume rocker only seems to affect media volume, no matter where I am on the device. I have to open setting to adjust notification volume.
This isn't how it has worked on any other Android phone or tablet I've used. The volume rocker controls notification volume on everything else and it adjusts the media volume when I'm in a game or music/movie player.

If you find out the reason, i want to know it.
I wish it would only control media volume for me, i hate it controlling the ringer/notification volumes, but unfortunately there's no "fix" for that.
Maybe you found the magic solution xD
I found if im watching a video or listening to music it will only effect what im listening too, or if I do it on the main screen with nothing running it will change all the volumes.
You can press the rocker once and then tap the mixer button on the right side of the volume slider to bring up other volume options, but the main reason is most people set the notification volume and then just leave it alone. Media volume is the only thing that needs quick adjusts, usually. -Ara

This makes sense, but it's not what I'm used to. I guess I have to adjust to it. I'd like to be able to just control notification volume from say the home screen like I can my on my android phone. Oh well. 1 extra step won't kill me

Hi,
I have an issue every time I install an AOKP build on my nexus 7.
When I use the volume button , up or down it always make crash/close the app that I'm into.
Any one have an idea why?
Thanks.

I am also having this issue. For me it's any sound producing app, E.g. Google Play Music, uberhype, and when the volume is adjusted either with the volume bumper or through settings the app FCs but the sound/music continues playing. Note that this doesn't always occur (sometimes I can adjust the volume as normal) buy I am unable to reproduce the event intentionally.

Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 stock headphone. There are 3 button on it, one for call receiving, 2 other to adjust phone's volume. I can use the call receiving button to answer a call and pause/play the playing song, but these 2 other buttons do nothing. I put it in the OneX and I can next/prev in the music player by using these 2 buttons. Any one have the same issue with me?
Regards,
Phu

Hi,
I have a Soundmagic E10M earphones.
It has 3 buttons, 2 volume keys and a call button.
But the volume keys does not work, they work fine on my iPad.
Is there any way to get them work on my Nexus 4.

Try other normal headphones if they work then probably Soundmagic might not be compatible with N4.
