twrp custom recovery not showing up. - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Hello rooted device using one touch. It looks like I have root access. The weird thing is when I boot into twrp recovery all it shows is an android figure laying with an exclamation point. As you can tell I'm new to all this. I never used twrp but I have used cwm. What's the deal here?

Did you install/flash TWRP onto the tablet?
The fallen android is stock recovery. If you actually want to see the menu for stock recovery press/hold Power, press/release VolUp, release Power.

Used goomanager and installed like that. All set.

You didn't remove the recovery-from-boot.p script that restores the stock recovery.

Weird issue with NS4G

Hey there, i did the oem unlock and flashed clockwork recovery and super user. Everytime i reboot my phone the clockwork recovery is just gone., Im coming from an evo so im used to holding the volume down button down at boot with the power button..can i do that to get into clockwork on my Nexus S?
Thanks, alright now how do i boot into recovery without using rom manager? like on my evo i would hold volume button down and hold the power button.... doesnt seem to work on the NS4G
hold volume up while powering up. will take you to bootloader screen, then select recovery option.
Okay after installing clockwork recovery using rom manager when i go to the recovery in fast boot and select it i get the little triangle with ! in the middle of it and a little android\
Edit: It seems like each time i flash it, i can only go to it once, the next time I go to it i get the triangle with the ! in it.
this happened to me too. take out the battery to power off, then power back on and boot, then reflash clockwork via rom manager, make sure you go to all clockworkmod recoveries, make sure you flash version 3.1.0.0...then launch bootloader again.
took me flashing recovery via rom manager 2 or 3 times for it to stick.

No i didnt. Every time i reboot it just disappears D:
also, did you try booting into recovery from the rom manager app after flashing? i was able to boot into recovery via app and fastboot.
update: i'm now getting the exclamation mark while trying to get to recovery. when i reflashed it one more time, i'm able to boot into via app and fastboot again. there's obviously something wrong with cwm recover as its not sticking all the time.
I have it working now.
Using this
BE SURE TO FLASH CLOCKWORK MOD FROM ROM MANAGER AND DO THIS IMMEDIATELY AFTER WITHOUT REBOOTING
At this point you have root, but your phone will continue to replace ClockworkMod Recovery on reboot. To prevent this, do the following:
1) Reboot your phone, and download the app "Root Explorer" from the Market
2) Open Root Explorer and navigate to the "etc" directory.
3) Tap on the gray box that says "Mount R/W"
4) Tap and hold on the file "install-recovery.sh" and rename this file to "install-recovery.sh.old"
5) Download the app "ROM Manager"
6) Open ROM Manager and choose "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". At this point you are all set .
I was just going to post that for you xD
Glad to see it working!
cool, glad you found it. idk why my recovery was sticking most of the time w/o that hack

Clockwork recovery won't boot nexus s

Hey guys
I'm having an issue booting into clockwork recovery. and i'm having even more of an issue finding the answer, I'm pretty sure that someone is gonna come up with a thread which already answers my Q, I just don't know enough of the terms to search sorry
I've followed instructions here in Kursks walk through to unlock my loader, install super user and install clockwork mod etc.
Clockwork mod and super user are now fully upto date.
I've managed to do a backup of my current rom using clockwork mod.
I have also managed to get the phone to boot in to clockwork recovery from within the android app. But only once.
when ever i now try to do a backup, reboot into recovery, or boot to loader menu and select recovery it always fails.
I get the image of a box with the arrow next to android, then after a few seconds the box and arrow turn into a triangle with "!" inside it.
I'm probably making a rookie error here, but I'm having trouble finding the answer.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Reflash clockworkmod recovery via fastboot.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Hi and thanks for your reply
well i reflashed clockwork mod and selected to reboot into recovery, and that worked fine
I then booted back to android, selected a rom to DL and install, and got the same issue again
re-flashed again, selected a rom to install and that appears to be working
Do you have to re-flash clockwork recovery everytime? or is mine doing something weird?
Thanks again for your reply

/etc/install-recovery.sh
I'll ask aswell.
Clockwork recovery won't stick for me either. I9023.
I don't have the /etc/install-recovery.sh anywhere. Looked and searched via root explorer. No files whatsoever called install-recovery.sh. On CM7.
Can anyone give me any tips?
Downgrade to older clockwork via Rom manager . I've had that problem it makes no different and it works fine
Thanks guys I think you've managed to sort me out

Did you flash the CWM.zip in TWRP? I ask because there was a known issue when flashing CWM from TWRP you would get stuck in a recovery loop. I had the same issue and had to flash the stock .img to get out of it. Good luck.
i flashed the CWM zip that was posted in the CWM thread, bout to try and get myself free..
::success.
booted into bootloader
flashed bootloader, restarted, booted into my rom...
rebooted back into bootloader
flashed recovery
wipe/flash normally
I'm in the same exact situation, Could you share with me how you got it to boot into bootloader? I've been trying for awhile now. As I'm stuck in CWM I'm thus far unable to use adb. I'm a total adb noob so there is probably something quite simple I'm missing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the reply, I've tried that many times. It's not working. I wish I had read this thread carefully and learned that it might be dangerous to flash cwm zip from TWRP, I had no idea.
The thing is is that it never really shuts down properly(thought I remembered a power off option on one of my epic 4g cwm) So when I press the power button while on the reboot system now option, that is what it does but back to recovery. I tried the volume button as you suggested as well as every other combination I could think of. :~(
Well in messing with drivers(uninstalling old drivers/devices installing universal naked driver) I had the nexus 7 q3 tool waiting for adb to enter fastboot and reflash TWRP so I could restore) and the tool suceeded in kicking me into fastboot(with an error in the toolkit) The toolkit stopped communicating though. I want to use the toolkit to reflash back to stock now that I'm in the bootloader screen.
I'm a bit nervous though, some warning about flashing asus stock blobs being a sure way to HardBrick. I think I'll wait until I get better information. I am on the bootloader screen, but I'm certain my bootloader as it sits is messed up from flashing CWM.
*Edit* Success!! I used this ; "[Guide] Returning to Stock and/or Unbricking your device"located here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781250 (not sure how to go about inserting a descriptive link sry :~( I'm now back to stock and ready to brick it again...umm, I mean, root and flash like there's no tomorrow. hehe Thanks for the input.:good::good:

[Q] Two Different CWM Versions Installed?

So apparently I have two different versions of ClockWorkMod Recovery on my Droid X. ROM manager says I have 5.0.2.0, but when I reboot into Recovery (via ROM Manager, or manually) it boots into CWM 2.5.0.8. I can then Flash the 5.0.2.0 zip, and use it normally, I just can't boot directly into it. I recently got a replacement Droid X off ebay because my screen developed a huge black blob in it, but it didn't have the same CWM weirdness going on..
Is there any way to get rid of the 2.5.0.8? Everything works correctly once I flash into 5.0.2.0, but it would be nice to be able to get there directly.
TIA
bump?
Anyone?
same here
Hello i have the same issue just by me i cant do any thing in recovery it will just always go to a blank screen in rom manger it will show 5.0.....
in recovery it shows 2.0....

i think it has something to do with bootstrap did you try using 2.5.0.8 not sure but i think you should be able to use it the same as 5.0.2.0

Both work, just you can't Restore backups made in 5.0.2.0, using 2.5.0.8.. So ever time I want to do a Back Up, or a Restore, I boot into Recovery and it loads 2.5.0.8, then I flash 5.0.2.0, then run my Back Up or Restore..
It all works, it's just a pain..
Simple solution

Why don't you Boot in to recovery and backup from recovery instead of ROM manger to my understanding that will solve all your problems.
if i helped hit the thanks button

That's what I am doing.. Any way I get into Recovery, by booting directly into it, or via ROM Manager, it boots into 2.5.0.8.
Got it worked out, thanks to this thread..

Not booting into CWM?

Seem to have an issue when i try and boot my device into recovery. It has CWM 6.0.1.9, which was flashed using the V4.0.0 toolkit, but every time i boot it into recovery i just get the standard recovery image of the android fella laying down with the red triangle above it. I have tried reflashing CWM onto it twice now and keep on getting the same issue. But i know CWM is on my device cos ive used it to make a backup about an hour ago. Any ideas?
