This was taken with my Nexus 7 2nd generation . Front camera is clear and this is my back camera on 5mp.is is completely blurry. Is there a sticker on camera or something giving me quality this bad. It's also makes a clicking noise when switching to camera is that normal

The clicking noise is normal. But the blurry pictures not. Maybe reset the device. And try again.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I don't remember having to remove a sticker from the lense at all. That clicking sound, does it come from the speakers or does it sound like its coming from N7's internals? That doesn't sound normal to me, def. not happening on mine.
I would download a replacement camera app and test that out. If the same thing happens I would guess you have a malfunctioning camera, specifiaclly the focus feature. If the replacement camera app doesnt produce the same issue and it doesn't fix it on the stock camera app then I would guess that the stock camera app isn't communicating with the lense correctly.
Best of luck!
Try flashing a different kernel as that is what bridges hardware and software.
When I take pictures close up. Like inches away the quality is better but from a few feet it's bad. I'll try it once I leave work. Sucks if I need to send it back to Google
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like it isn't focusing properly. The clicking sound IS normal, it's the shutter or whatever, but it shouldn't be that loud. It should sound more like a light rattle when tapping near the camera.
In this case, it sounds like the camera's focus lens is broken. When you tap on different parts of the screen, in the camera app, it should focus where you are pointing. Unfortunately I think you should exchange it. This is the first one I've heard with this issue so it isn't common. Perhaps it was dropped and knocked the focus gear out of whack.
No never dropped it. Thing is babied. I'll have to call Google becaus it was bought from play store. This should be a fun experience

Shouldn't be too bad, Google customer support is pretty good IME, though it's an odd experience speaking to Americans as a Brit.
I think I have tried one of the cameras one. They are junk. Love the device but definitely would not use it for taking pictures. I just use my vacate or even my nex 4. These cams on this device are worthless.

Your picture looks as if it's totally out of focus. Try touching the image on the screen of the object you are photographing to make sure you focus on it. Alternatively, just take a picture of a wall so that everything in your picture is equal distance from the camera.

The camera is just a nice toy, not more or less. It´s good enough if you want to shoot some quick pictures of the stuff you´re about to sell at ebay
Btw, every cellphone camera offers a better quality, check this out : http://thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=padhole
One of the more significant updates to the Nexus 7 (2013) is the inclusion of a 5-megapixel camera where previously there was none. Even though camera usage isn’t very optimal on a tablet, it is a nice addition when you just need a simple shot and nothing too fancy.
The camera app brings all the usual capabilities you get in a stock Android camera app, and that includes Photo Sphere, an improved Photo Sphere, in fact. Picture quality is decent enough, but honestly, it’s nothing to get too excited about.
I'm never gonna use the camera. I usually sell all my olf stuff once a new one comes out and this would be a bad thing when it comes to sell it. Something wrong with focus. Working on a return through Google customer service

There is definitely something out of whack with the camera on your N7 FHD! While the camera on this tablet is anything but good, the photo you posted is worse than normal. I agree that using a camera on a tablet is far from idea, my Asus Infinity takes excellent photos!! I'll rarely ever use either camera in the N7 FHD, but if mine was defective then I'd definitely want a replacement device!

My N7's rear cam also needs to focus twice (or more) before it snaps a good focused photo.
I'm running a custom kernel and ROM- but they both originate from Google source-code, so it may well be a software issue?
Once it gets focus lock- it seems to drift off very quickly, almost like it's too sensitive to very small movements of the tablet.
Would be nice to have a manual focus override...
Didn't even try the camera prior to reading this thread
But indeed, the images are grainy. They are "okay" when being watched in a smaller size but at 100% you can surely see blocky stuff.
Made two test shots (here and here). Am never going to use the camera anyway so no biggie for me
Looks better then mine did. I got a replacement and this one is better. Not gonna use it just h Los for resell value that Everything works

I don't think camera on the tablet is necessary so I didn't regard the resolution of the camera when buying. When I go back an take some photos, I think that it is 1.3MP... and now you tell me that it is 5MP, then I think that is software problem, cause my i9000 also takes these kind of photos with poorly configured camera App...
Here are a couple I have taken just now in decent lighting. Ill post some from outside tomorrow.

Not that I use the camera a lot but I don't think it's horrible by any means. Didn't really use any effort to get a pic, just picked up my tablet from the couch and took em. It's no dedicated camera but in a pinch it's pretty good.

i m not satisfied with the photo quality. It feels like photo has been taken by a 0.1 Mega pixel camera.
Come on Acer you can do better
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about? I've taken several pictures as well and I have no complaints. As a matter of fact, I was shocked by the quality that I was getting from the camera while taking photos and video.
Not even the iPad 2 takes great photos. Use your phone or don't use the tablet. Personally, I'm so pleased with the Acer. It's not the best but I think I got my money's worth.
Only thing left is HD video. I want that update pronto!

I've been having fun with this tablet for the past 24 hours (it still still stock...for now), but I went to take a picture and the camera is just terrible. Doesn't seem to have autofocus for what I could find, and no matter what distance I shot it at, the text I was trying to take a picture of just came out blurry.
Hopefully this is something they can update via software otherwise it is just a horrible hardware limitation. Just wanted to share.
Camera is fixed focus. Hardware issue, not fixable with software.

I just take a photo with my HTC Amaze and then BT transfer it to the Tab 2. Takes an extra 20 seconds.
its a 250.00 tablet buy a camera if you want something that takes decnet pics.
always some that have to whi ne and moan over anything
I'm totally fine with the camera, let's face it it's a WiFi only tablet there aren't going to be many people who use one of these who aren't also carrying a smartphone.
Samsung had to make some cuts to the thing to get it to the $250 price point, much better they go for low end camera components than omit a GPS sensor or a front camera or a MicroSD card slot (IMO)
Also IMO taking pictures with a tablet always looks kind of goofy, being 7" it's not as silly looking as a 10" tablet would but still.
yeah I am happy enough with the camera for the price. It was literally a borderline decision so any more cost and I probably would have not purchased.
the odd thing though is that the front camera is awful for skype yet seems to record in far better quality. Which confuses me, its worse than the front camera on my xperia play for skype.
maybe a software issue? should try out some other video chat progs with the front camera to see

Jjust traded it from a Xoom JUST REALIZED I HAVE NO FLASH,!!
Taking pictures with a tablet!? Whats this world coming too!
You folk have just convinced me 85% to get this thing in June. I regret on thing though, the 8gb memory, with the possibility of higher specs of the same to show up soon. Ahww!
Btw not all 8 gbs are available for storage. The system uses some of that. The 7 inch tab can take a 32 gbs sdcard though.
Yes, the camera is awful even for a 3.15 MP one, but my guess is that it seems bad because the lack of flash and the fact that you can see every detail and flaw of the photo on the large screen.
Who walks around taking pictures with a tablet?

Hi folks,
Just bought my new Black Galaxy S4 (I9505) yesterday and enjoying every bit of it, but camera has been a great disappointment. I'm not sure why but the camera has some really bad lag. So much so, I have started thinking that S4 has some sort of issue with camera. I tried searching on the interent, and could not find any other complaints on S4's camera shutter.
Is there anyone else having the same issue? Let me explain the issue; when I take a picture on Auto mode (or any other mode), there is a lag between pressing the camera button and when the actual picture is taken. That is probably understandable due to auto focus (?), but most of the pictures come out blurry. Also, the frame I see in the view finder is not the same as the actual picture. I mean, the subject in the frame at the time of when I see the picture has been taken, does not come out the same when I look at the picture itself. I'm no camera expert so trying my best to explain it well. I have disabled every sort of fancy features in my camera, as well as the whole phone (air gesture, smart screen, etc) (although I'm sure that has nothing to do with the camera performance) but still the issue is still there.
Any suggestions on how to make it better. I take quite a lot of pictures and have been doing it on my S3 without any major complaints. In fact, I love SGS3 camera, and upgraded to S4 thinking it'll have a better camera, but that's not my experience till now.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply! I did upgrade the software as soon as I connected my phone to wifi. I think that was the only update ever since S4 launched. Any other suggestions? I do believe that this is not a common issue, I read some camera reviews and everyone seems to be praising the shutter speed, so they must be talking about a different camera than what I have
i have the same issue, i have newest software, just updated by ota. when i press sutter button i have to wait one second for picture is actually taken... so big lag, with s3 it was instant - zero shutter lag.

That's it! That is what I am experiencing. Not sure how to fix it. If you find anything, do let me know. I'm also looking around and trying different settings. My S3 had a super camera with no lags and pictures come out crisp, that's not what I'm getting with S4.

Is the delay there when you use the voice command?
At least I am not alone. Thanks to everyone who replied. Can someone disable "auto night detection" in camera settings and see if it makes any difference? I tried changing this setting and do feel some difference but cannot tell for sure. I have seen that when you take a picture in dark and when auto night detection is enabled, shutter speed is a lot faster than usual.
I am hoping we'll find some answer within the existing phone/camera settings and dont have to hack the camera, or in worst case, change the phone.
Thanks!

When focusing instead of letting the phone do it tap screen let it lock on then take the picture, I've had no problems using the camera on my phone pics have come out sharp.
But i do agree the camera software itself still needs abit of work doing yet, this will more likely get sorted out in future updates.

Complaining here won't help - you all have to spam Samsung with lots of emails.
This is not something that is going to get fixed with a software update, maybe improved but not fixed. Having a 13 MP camera using tiny lens and sensor will inherently cause a situation where it takes longer to gather a sufficient amount of light, hence longer exposure times and slower shutter speeds. This is the price to pay for being able to capture lots of detail out of a tiny camera. The S4's camera should not be used to capture moving targets.
I've seen mixed reviews on the camera of nexus 4. From my experience I observed a few things.
Camera is excellent in well lit scenes as many reviews point. When using it in low light setup like I did in a restaurant a last night with my family. My cousin was having the iPhone. On the display itself, it was all to dark in my nexus 4 while my cousin's display on his iPhone shored even more light. Then I tried 'Camera FV5' app and the display on my nexus immediately overtook the iphone's, which makes me think that an updated stock camera app has lots of scope to take it to a new level. Or has anybody already cracked this.
I could settle for a third party app but the stock camera app's simplicity and some features like photo sphere are too good to miss.
Why is Google not thinking about this? I think the optics ( hardware) is already on par with the other popular flagship phones out there, just a bit of improvising will do the trick. Please share your views and any solutions that may already exists.

There are some conditions that the camera will take not so good pictures (if you just point and shot), but when you get the hand of it, for me, there's no difference with other 8MP cameras out there, it takes great pictures.
Bought this app as part of the Play Store sales that just happened. So far it's the best camera app I've tried with the N5. UI is decent, solid amount of features, and shutter speed seems much improved for me.

I'm glad you posted this, most of the camera apps I've tried, even those that have been updated for Nexus 5 and 4.4 compatibility all seemed to act weird when tapping to focus, the exposure on screen would flash really dark and often times stay dark.
This doesn't seem to have that issue, so thanks!
Heres a few random macro/close up shots I took.
Just tried it out much better than the stock camera app in my opinion will be using this one
Can confirm this app rocks! Much much better focus speed and picture quality too. Its on sales now ( I'm not promoting for this app )
Thank you very much for this find!

Holy [email protected]! This app is a HUGE improvement over the stock camera! Thanks to y'all for pointing it out and recommending it/ showing it off! :highfive:
Just bought it. It was 99 cents so I guess not a big deal to try out. I noticed the auto focus isn't great but tap to focus works better than stock. Is it supposed to have a native video recorder? When I clicked "camcorder" it tried opening my stock video camera and then crashed. Also, I'm not sure if the "reduced noise" is usable. It's fairly slow to take the pic as well as to process it.
EDIT: Nevermind about the video, just read on the app page it doesn't support it.
