The first thing that comes to our mind is overclocking for a better performance and underclocking for better battery life.
I tell you what, you might get bettery battery life by underclocking. But a big problem starts here:crying:,
The processors are tested vigorously and out of the box you get the sweet frequency.
UNDERCLOCKING: Sweet frequency for DEEP SLEEP is 200MHZ.
If you think you can get a better battery life by making it sleep in 100MHZ your are completely wrong, It takes more voltage operating at 100MHZ and thus further drain.
Overclocking: Don't do it, Games like Real racing 3, NFS most wanted plays without a lag, The MALI-400 and Dual core CPU does a great job. So u really don't need overclocking.
CPU GOVERNERS: Don't try switching between CPU Governor's often. By default it comes with ONDEMAND and that is good enough for multi tasking and it is good as a daily driver. ONDEMANDX is a slightly better one. Both of does a pretty good job. So i suggest you stick with these two if you want the phone to working like a S2:good:
Hit the thanks button if you like my suggestion :good:

How far have people got with over clocking their Visions?
Mines over clocked at 1GHz, i don't think id be increasing it any time soon think it would ruin my battery life
How far have all you all got to? Stable of course
That I know, we're at 1.8ghz so far. I keep mine at 806mhz all day since I barely use it throughout the day. Once I get home, I clock it up to 1.5ghz when I'm using it.
I've ran it once at 1.8ghz running a couple of benchmarks (linpack, neocore, quadrant)
It did very well, but, ran very hot (could be due to the fact I had it connected to the charger at the same time)
Either case, how much you get out of your battery depends on how you use it, how you set up your cpu profiles (dependant on which you use. I.e. cpu tuner, setcpu), and what frequency you're constantly letting your phone run on.
I run mine at 1.5ghz, see no need to push it further. Im getting all the performance I need at 1.5ghz. I use setcpu profiles, one to severely underclock when it reaches a certain temp and a charging profile that runs at stock clock to reduce heat when charging.
1.3ghz. Not like i feel it however. But 1.4ghz one they have posted wasnt 100% stable for me.
Please share
1. your favorite governor (do you use any different governor on different profiles?)
2. your voltage parameters
3. Your benchmark using quadrant
Thanks
No one wants to play?
Maybe like me, they have no idea what you are talking about
What is a governor?
What voltage do you mean?
My quadrant score is 3900 ish
Thanks for the reply, I don't think I'm good enough to explain but, in a nutshell,
A governor is a a piece of code in the kernel that decides on the cpu speed. each kernel has multiple governors
voltage is where you can decide what voltage is delivered to your cpu at certain frequency. undervoltage will usually help you save battery. we have to pay attention not to go too low or it phone will freeze
download setcpu it will all become clearer
I will give this another bump before letting it die
Even I would be intrested in sharing this
currently I am using CF root with ondemand and its working all good
FM kernel with interactive. I find my phone snappier with this governor. I liked it the most with smartassv2 on Abysssomething (don't remember now) kernel, but too many teething problems with this one, had to revert to FM. I'll give it another shot soon though.

Do you use any additional profiles with Interactive?
Nope, I like the way it is.

Have you tried InteractiveX? Or, better yet, know the differences between the two? I am currently using smartassv2, FM kernel and have no complaints but would be interested if there was something a bit snappier when opening an app (I still get a bit of lag if I quickly select an app after unlocking the phone).
Yes, I've tried InteractiveX and OndemandX - they're both absolute rubbish (at least from my point of view). Both responsiveness and benchmark results were dismal (2800-3300 quadrant advanced). These are governors for anally retentive battery life lovers. Nothing wrong with that itself but beats the purpose when buying state of the art top shelf performance smartphone IMO.
Good to know. I appreciate the advice. Does that mean you also tried smartassv2 with the FM kernel? Any discernible difference between that and interactive, if you have? And sorry for all the questions but it saves me the trouble of trying them!
I just flashed the 1.3 FM a moment ago. Now running 100-1704 smartassv2, haven't played with voltages yet. Responsiveness in terms of screen scolling, lags & stutters seems better than 200-1400 interactive. Performance in Quadrant Advanced and Nenamark2 seems a tiny bit worse (but I don't really care about that, I use benchmarks only to roughly estimate, smoothness is what I'm after). I can't give you direct sources because I don't remember, but having spent several hours digging last weekend I concluded that for people who put performance slighly over battery life governors to be considered are interactive, smartass(v2), savagedzed and performance. Funny enough - I'm getting consistently worse benchmarks on performance governor on all kernels. I wonder why?
Thanks again. I will play around with some of the governors and settings to find the right fit. I think I will try savagedzen next but I am pretty happy with smartassv2 and may just stick with it.

Smartassv2 and vr. After reading a bit about it they seem to be the best for performance and balanced battery life.
i share with you my SetCPU config, voltage ...
it's very stable for me. It's not performance oriented but battery friendly.
what you think ?
EDIT : I use AbyssNote Kernel 1.2
I'm getting nice results here on FM Kernel 1.3. 1704mHz (1375mV) - 100mHz (775mV), lulzactive governor. 5000-5872 in Quadrant advanced, 32-35 in Nenamark2. Battery life good with low to med usage, poor when playing games, running satnav etc. - hardly a surprise We'll see about stability but so far so good.
This thread is finally picking off ! thank you all
I am currently on FM 1.3 and preferring lulzactive
I don't use any over clocking I guess I don't dare. is it safe?
I think i'm pretty aggressive with under voltage i'm running 1175mv at 1400mhz and 775mv at 200mhz. For some reason my phone freezes any time I use the 100mhz no matter the voltage .
Can you share the whole voltage for a comparison ?
with all this I can hardly get a full day of use with my battery but I guess I'm a pretty heavy on usage. no gaming or anything extensive but wifi-browsing-emails-3g-bluetooth all day

I read on some other kernel thread that Samsung's implementation of the 100mhz step is incomplete/buggy. That's probably why it doesn't work properly.
Can you guys give me the best GPU govenor for any kind of rom? thanks!

That'll depend on what you need your phone for.
If you want all your cores to run at max speed thereby maximizing performance on games and browsing pick the performance kernel.
Otherwise for normal usage just pick the interactive governer.
There's a lot of governors available but these 2 are the only ones that are important and actually useful. Major kernel developers only give support to these 2 governors as they are the most useful when compared to others.
Dont use any battery saving governer. Trust me, your phone will slow down and make it unusable.
Hope this helps!
Best for what?
Governors are built into the kernel, so if you want choices, you'll have to flash a kernel that has those choices. Some are for high performance. Some are for saving battery. And then there's ones in between. Some might work better if you underclock or undervolt to save battery. Some might work better if you run only 2 cores. Some have better wake-up speed from sleep. "Best" depends on what you plan to do with your phone.
Don't forget about profiles either. For example, I've been playing around with HellsCore kernel and HellsCore Manager. You can create profiles depending on what you're doing. Like, if you're plugged in and playing a game, set it for max performance. If you need it to last as long as possible, limit the max clock speed, run only 2 cores, and use a battery saving governor. With HellsCore Manager you can even mix it up; Performance or normal until battery hits 50% (or whatever), and then switches to a battery saving profile. Pretty nifty.
I have a few suggestions for this kernel and i hope you, Renix63, can see this and add it.
please let us:
overclock the cpu to higher clocks (maybe until 2ghz? )
let the gpu be overclocked (maybe until 600-700mhz?)
thank you very much for your kernel. i hope you have a nice day!
I would suggest not to rush... We got governors and a modded gpu gov. It's not that necessary, 2ghz? It's very unstable and god, your battery will go to 0% in no time because voltage needs to be raised thus consuming more battery. Same goes for the gpu, even if I think gpu OC would be a great feature, but again, not yet. Believe me, resolving stability issues and managing memory etc, is far more important and can get a better performance without OC

hahahaha yeah sorry bout that, im still noob but it would be great to have overclocking for the gpu tho. for the battery, some people buy powerbanks or battery packs but if ever they want to prolong their battery life because they dont have an extra battery, they can just underclock. but yeah youre right, resolving stability issues and managing memory etc is more important. hahaha sorry
Wake Gesture
What do you think about adding double tap to wake (or wake gesture)? I'd love it!
But the only question is? Is it possible on our device?
Is it safe to change my CPU governor to "performance" to force max clock speed?
I don't want to overclock my Note 4, don't worry, not talking about that. But I am talking about MAX clocking it - forcing it to run at maximum rated speed. I've already tested out SetCPU and used it to change my governor to performance which forces the clock to max, and it nearly doubled my framerate in many games, especially the ones that struggled to play on this device like Xcom:EW.
But I quickly turned it off because I wasn't sure it was safe to do in the new era of smartphones, what with their DVFS and all. I'm worried that I'm going to overheat the CPU, and it's not going to be able to downclock because of temperature anymore. I'm only modifying the governor, but what if I actually used SetCPU to just change the CPU clock to max, without even touching the governor?
Can I hurt my phone by doing this? Can I safely start forcing my CPU to run faster while playing games, knowing that the only thing I risk is my battery draining faster, or am I actually risking damaging components by doing this?
Hello and thank you for using Q/A,
your CPU will not be damaged, but the battery life time will be shorted.

I personally have used Performance governor on Moto X 2013 for almost the whole 8 months I had it, 24x7 I mean. Never had a problem, yeah maybe battery life was little less than normal but I never did really care about it. Then I ran the same governor for a good period of time on my Note 3 too, same, no problem at all. Like you said, in games the frame rate difference is massive, but I don't play much games, I simply used that governor because it gets rid off all those micro lags and jitters which are Android's trademark, I simply can't them, with default Interactive the micro lags are very apparent.
However with Note 4 I am pretty happy with the BluActive governor, it makes most of the micro lags to go away, so sticking with it.
In any case unless you plan to use a mobile phone for maybe 5 years or so, I don't see any problem at all with it, other than a slightly increased heat, and maybe a little less battery backup, but you will find so many comments which might scare you, that chip burns off if you run it and all that, but those mainly are BS.
