[Q] Problem with USB port - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all
My Defy (MB525) has suddenly stopped charging, neither does it notice when its connected to the PC
However, when I power off the phone and then plug in the cable it notices, a little white light comes on and the phone powers up.
So the USB port must work, at least a little bit.
some facts till now..
:good:I use cyanogenmod 10 2ndboot for more than 6 months, thats not something new....
So.. What have I tried so far
- I tried several different USB cables
- I tried connect it to more than one computer
- I tried connect it to my car charger
- I've change my rom from cm10 to cm 10.1 and even cm10.2, at the end i got back the cm10- 2ndboot
(after all, 10 is the best rom for MB525)
I''ve done it as it should be done, I wiped data/factory reset, I wiped cach and I wipe dalvik..
- I even opened the phone to see if the usb connector is connected to the board, seems fine to me but i don't really know anything about electricity and stuff..
what more can I do? it must work somehow, other ways there wasn't a white led when concting the device to usb while it off and
one more thing is the fact that it turning back on.
The last thing when i get into the bootloader it recognaized the cable
"ok to program
transfer mode usb"
is there anything that I can try inside CWM Recovery 5.0.3.1 or Team Win rocovery boot menu ?
the only thing I havent done yet is to wipe it all complitly and install Froyo (Android 2.2 rom) from the start.
any suggestions?
Shani

Seems like I challenged all of you
I've been challenged myself to
Any way, my HTC ONE develoer eddition (64GB) shuld be here in less than two weeks so I don't realy care about the defy....
I just wanted to solve the case.. that's the kind of person that I am

Seems like a hardware failure, maybe the pins are loose. You can try usb mount from twrp, but based on your observations i dont think that would work. Congrats on your new phone btw

[Q] HD2 only powers up via USB? Just reinstalled new digitzer

Hey XDA, my phone's digitizer broke, so i decided to bring it to a local repair shop to get it fixed. The phone worked completely as I was able to run hyperdroid NAND and the touchscreen also worked perfectly as well. After getting the digitizer replaced from this guy, my phone would not turn on. The only way to turn on the phone would to plug in the USB. Even though it was plugged into the USB and powered on, it would run MAGLDR and go to the NAND boot where it would say 123456 gogogo. From there it just stops and stays there. Also when i boot into the tri-colored bootloader, it does not recognize that my USB is plugged in, and also doesnt say cotulla blah blah blah. Still shows that it is running hardspl though. What could be the problem?
Much help would be appreciated thanks!
P.S. I would also like to say that when booting into MAGLDR, holding the power button does not bring me to the menu that shows boot SD or the stuff like tetris.
happened to me before. Check the battery pins maybe one of them is bent.
really? hmm. well it seems like the battery pins are fine! it has to be a hardware problem somewhere right? cause it was working before he went to work on it!
actually... do your pins go down pretty easily? i have to press kind of hard on mine for them to go down. but that doesnt explain the bootloader not recognizing the USB though... or does it??
yea they should be hard to push down... cant tell you if its hardware or not but if i had to guess im guessing one of the ribbons hasnt been reconnected right.
I can assure you it is hardware. I was running hyperdroid right before he fixed it! we turned it off and everything then he started working on it. a ribbon not connected right could be the case! ill see what i can do. maybe ill bring it back to him
in bootloader when i pull out my usb. it says serial where it should say USB
If this helps anyone, I just resolved this myself by pushing down a pin that was sticking up, then inserting the battery DOWNWARDS so the pins get pressed back down and it should allow your HD2 to reboot.

[Q] Powerbutton doesn't make it boot

Yesterday i started off as newbe to install android with clk. The first time i selected a partition size that was too large (selected the maximum size of 450) then it suddenly didn't react to the powerbutton anymore. Only when i put in a connect usb cable it started booting. I repeated the partitioning after a task29 with 200/44 and after trial&error got to install a cyogen rom. It booted nicely the first time, but didn't have a sim-card installed yet. So i got my sim and wanted to boot it and discoverd that the powerbutton still doesn't do anything :S It only responds to the usb cable. When booted it does respond to it (standby etc).
What happened and how can i make it work again???
[edit]
It also appears that it can only run with the usb connected. If i disconnect the usb for some reason (with full battery) it immediatly dies. That happend also when in the three-color screen and in the clk recovery menu.
Bent battery pin.
it could be what samsamuel says or u hv dirt in the connector toggle switch under the button....try sam's option (reset the bent pin) if that doesnt do the trick....try removing any dirt from the button (dont pry it too hard)..some strong air flow might may b just enough...
How a big problem can have a simple solution That did the trick. Thx

Charging problem

Hello all,
I am owner of GT - P7500 / 3.2, P7500XXKL4 stock rom / and till today I did not have any problems with my tablet. Today when I tried to charge it, I got a massage - USB MTP connected and sign below as it is when it is connected to PC. At this situation battery does not charge. If a switch of tabled it charging. I tried many things, but nothing helps me. Please advice me what to do! Thank you in advance.
well it seems to me as a rom problem cause if you turn it off it charges, kind of the tablet recognizing the charger as a usb connection, the only thing i can think off to help you out will be to wipe everything and see what happens.

Thank you! Do you think root will solve a problem?
I don't think so. But i'm pretty sure a full wipe will do the trick if that doesn't work you will need to reflash your system.
How to make a full wipe?
Well first make a back up cause it will erase all meaning apps, apps data and configurations, the info that you have on the internal storage will be fine; now turn off your tab and then turn it on while holding the volume down key (the one that is next to the power button) once it turns on release the power but keep holding the volume key until you are shown 2 options one of them showing "downloading..." select the one with no letters (kind of a box with an arrow and the android logo) using the volume down key again and then the volume up key. Once you are on the android recovery select (this menu is controlled only using the fisical keys, volume -/+ for moving arround and power for selecting) the wipe data/factory reset option and once it's done the wipe cache one then reboot.
This is known as a full wipe
Thank you again. Did all as you explained to me, full wipe done, but problem still happens and I cant charge my tablet...may be go to store which sold it to me?
mmmm let me understand this; while it's on and you connect it to the charger it tells you that it's connected as mtp right? but if you turn it of and connect it, it charges fine?? am i right??
Yes, that is right, but today I wait 4 hrs when it was switched off and charging and after 4 hrs it was only 20-25% charged.....now the same switched on and when connected to charger - MTP....as it is connected to USB port on my PC
Well mate the only other thing that is in my mind will be to reinstall the rom from kies. Or maybe root and try a diferent rom.
Tried already this, but now the new problem appear - can not connect to PC via Kies
Found this i don't know if it will help but if you don't want to root then the best option is to take it to the place you bought it as you say before.

Serious USB Port & Cable Problems - Anyone Else Have This?

Just laying this down somewhere so its out there and not cluttering up Thing O Doom's thread.
Update: Got a refund due to them being OOS to replace. Oh well, no transformer for me...
Had some problems with my TF101, seems its a hardware fault with the USB port.
First cable: Caused Reboot then semi bootloop
Second cable: Disabled Power Button.
Cant seem to find any other people with these problems so am going to return it and get a replacement seeing how Ive just bought case, screen protectors, silicon skin etc.
Like the tablet and for the price I got it for I defo want a fixed unit!
History of posts in other thread:
First Cable:
After booting and the usb cable is attached it 'crashes' back to the main EEEPC logo screen and seems to be bootlooping except that it doesnt get to the boot animation. Just logo > black screen > logo > black screen.
Once cable is removed it boots and operates as normal until cable is plugged back in again.
I can get to recovery and use that no problem, even adb, but no go when booting into android.
Notes:
It worked before the rooting as was using it to do the rooting
If I plug it in at ANY point itll do it, powered off, boot animation, launcher etc
adb works fine in recovery
Havnt flashed a new rom yet as just got back from work
Update 1: Factory rest in TWRP = Problem still persists
Update 2: Wiped all partition (except sd) and restored backup after first root = Upon first connection it 'crashed' but this time rebooted to the os. This time Battery was 0% and crashed again when going into settings.
Update 3: Holy s*** - It does it even when not plugged into a PC! Just plugged the cable in by itself and it did it WTF!
Either the cable or connector is faulty Will have to try another cable but wont get one till next week now. If it does the same Im gonna have to send tablet back. FFS.
It must be cable as AC fits nice and tight (first time I used it was before rooting) while the USB is slightly loose and not as 'snug'
Why does it work fine in recovery though?

Looking at my amazon purchase Im thinking it isnt a genuine cable and cheapo knock-off (wasnt cheap cash-wise!)
Wondering if its something to do with the charging pins and it trying to charge but do data at the same time causing it to 'crash'. Could have been knocked out of place as the first time id used it was to use the root tool.
Anyway, when my new cable arrives Ill move this to a new thread if needed but for now Ill leave the post here in case any one else stumbles across it.

Second Cable
Well, its definitely looking a hardware problem as this new cable that came today does similar except that it only turns the screen off but doesnt reboot it. Cant turn the screen on until the cable is removed.
I got it connected to PC with the new cable as well as adb was working etc but no screen
Going to return it for a replacement if I can manage to get it returned to stock rom and recovery.
Everything else on the tablet works fine except the one thing I needed to work 100% lol just my luck
;edit; ...wtf...Flashed to stock and both cables are new cable is working fine...Will have to see wth is going on later when I get back from work
;edit2; Nope it just disables the power button so I cant turn the screen back on. This feckers going back!

[Solved] My Blade got a weird brick. Nothing seems to work.

Well I just got myself in a really weird situation. I will try to be as descriptive as possible about what I did wrong. My Blade was flashed with "Eco CM7 - A minimalist cm7 build" and it was working just fine until today I tried to install INT2EXTV2+ The flashing hanged at the point where it was asking me if I wanted SWAP or not and nothing would work even if I kept choosing NO! Ever since then I tried to install that my phone will just not turn on if I push the power button. BUT, if I connect the USB cable and hold the power button, the phone will power on.
I have tried formating and re installing the rom I was using and also I tried reflashing Via windows with TPT which worked just fine but even if I did so, the problem still remains. As soon as I unplug the usb the phone goes off as if the battery is dead, even if the indicator shows the battery is full. Also if I let it boot, as soon as the screen shows a glimpse of the android UI, the phone reboots.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do and what I did?
-EDIT-
After leaving it for a whole day (14 hours) to rest with the battery off and then putting the battery back on and trying to turn it on, it did. I am glad it is still alive. I still do not get what happened to it.
