No! not yet

I also have updated and had no idea this would give me such a headache..... at first I wasn't able to root, but after Chainfire updated root i was able to root, but a lot of apps don't work as before, so I decided do downgrade to the ROM I was before, but it is IMPOSSIBLE! Please help us!!!

Why doesn't it work just flash stock FW from odin like any other brick?
How can it not work?

New security features added to the bootloader in MGG, MH8 and MH5. Unfortunalty there isnt a work around yet, im sure in the next couple of weeks they will work out a way. Just have to be paitent. There are roms based on MGG and MH8 available. Echo V2 is the new firmware and its brilliant.
i9505 Echo Rom As Standard......
flashaholic also try every rom out.......

Check this post. Hopefully it will help. Seems to be the only way to downgrade as of now...

You really need to read a lot more before you start messing around flashing things on your device. It's ALL around this forum about not being able to downgrade.

Samsung build some protection so you can't downgrade, for how long that's another story. Anything software can be broken, it's just the matter of effort, keep your eyes open, maybe somebody will find way.

I just read an interesting news. Apparently, some canadian phones ( SM-N900W8 ) when flashed with the newly released Mexican 4.4.2 can downgrade back to a 4.3 firmware. Did somebody who flashed the Poland 4.4.2 tried flashing it and maybe you guys can downgrade to 4.3 after as well? It's just an idea I haven't really tried it.

I also have an S3 i9305 with tripped knox bootloader after upgrading to 4.3. I have not tried to flash stock 4.1.2 on it after that, but it is not a problem to flash a custom 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 custom ROM on it.
Is it only samsung signed ROMs that won't boot if it's downgraded? And custom ROMs is not a problem as long as you don't try to downgrade the bootloader?

Samsung did changes on the bootloader since MJ7, once updates cannot downgrade.
Also new firmware OS need new bootloader, means once up to latest KitKat that need new bootloader, they is no way to revert to older version as of now.

Well for us SM-N900W8 users it's possible to flash back to 4.3. Just took Mexican 4.4.2 for a spin and to me looks the same as 4.3 so I'm back to 4.3 as there's not that many 4.4.2 custom roms out yet.

XSA ROM

Hey guys.
Quick one, is the XSA rom you can get from samobile the stock Samsung rom? As in not telstra or Optus? Like you would get if you bought unbranded from a Samsung store?
Thanks guys. Only reason I ask is that I'm trying to figure out if my Optus firmware is crappy, I'd guess it is but just need to see before I can't take it back.
Thanks again.
Search all the different AU(?) Firmwares and see, its possible XSA is the unbranded one - although saying that, I think sammobile says if its unbranded.

So I shouldn't have any trouble with that yeah?
It's the same build number as I have now so that should flash fine, without triggering Knox?
Thanks.

Thanks again guys. Might do that in the next day and see if it's this crappy rom.
Help me understand this note 3 Knox business. So, I've had nexuses and other Samsung's and I've never had the thing where I couldn't use a previous version of Android if I updated.
So is it just the bootloader we're talking about? If I updated to 4.4.2, I couldn't use anything older than that? Even just the rom?
So how would I even get a 4.4.2 rom if say the roms didn't include the bootloader? And if I did get a bootloader, is the right one? Haha.
Sorry to ask so much, just things seem different with this particular phone and the current versions of Android.
Maybe it's just the bootloader and you can't go and use an older version of Android if that's been flashed.
Couldn't you flash a stock 4.3 official rom if you wanted to go back?
Thanks in advance.

If you flash a stock KK rom it updates the bootloader. If you get the broken up KK polish rom and don't update the bootloader then KK doesn't load.
Once you update to the latest KK bootloader you CAN'T go back to JB... You will trip Knox warranty void if you try...
Argh I see.
So basically it's the bootloader. But if you root, flash custom recovery and or rom, that's going to trip knox anyway isn't it? So if you did use a earlier version of Android, you still can, it will just trip knox?
Tripping knox doesn't make your phone unusable does it? I'm sure there will be some sort of triangle away or similar that will get rid of it. What if you flash a clean bootloader? Would that clear knox? I wonder where the knox counter info is stored and if it's accessible...
Geez, making myself sound like a noob here haha. I swear I'm an experienced flasher haha.
Just making sure I understand this before I do anything. Seems a little different than normal. Everyone should understand this stuff before they do anything. Haha.
Thanks again.

Q. About flashing older rom

Hello. I have searched but not found any clear answer. I wonder if I have version MJ7 under AP can i then flash a older rom without problems?
Is it only if having kitkat then I can't flash older rom? Or is it even when being on jelly bean?
I ask because I need to keep knox ok but I want root. So i thought I flash a older rom and root and keep knox ok?
You won't be able to flash anything below MJ7 if that's what you currently have. And with MJ7 there is no way to root without tripping KNOX either I'm afraid.

In addition to what @radicalisto wrote earlier...
even you are in KK, you can't flash older ROM. And yes, any newer ROM which come with a new bootloader, once u flash it, most possibilities, you can't go back to earlier one.
so, if you are now on MJ7, and plan to have KK on it, I suggest you update first before you root your device.

Bootloader differences

Just a quick one guys, is the bootloader any different in the firmware builds of 4.4.2? As in, NB3 or NA7 etc etc? Is it really worth flashing a later firmware to get the 'latest' bootloader? In my knowledge, I doubt there much different as it has not much of a bearing in the firmware itself, I've been told anyway.
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, there is no difference in the bootloader between the KK builds -- or if there is, they seem to be fully compatible.

I think you can download these versions, extract it and binary compare the files inside to know if they are the same or different.
Flashing bootloaders is a risky business... These little puppies will almost always give you an expensive paperweight if something goes wrong during the flash...
Custom rom with NB3 bootloader... Like the old Androidnow rom, NC2 but developement has stopped and also Assassin rom, waiting fop the V3 with the latest base....
Both those roms have good battery life (depending on use of course) but my screen on time is generally around 4 - 5 hours with around 70% battery left....
That's insane. Haha. I'm just sick of waiting for Samsung to do there business in Australia. This is ridiculous. I've never had a device this long without rooting... It feels, unnatural haha. I'm thinking xnote, crash, bobcat it assassins.

Both... However in the last few days this has increased somewhat due to me turning off my mobile data cause I went over my limit... Bloody google+ and it's update of pictures and videos. There's a reason I use a 64gb sd card....
Well, I flashed the Netherlands latest firmware and working like a charm. Even kept my Data partition haha.
So bootloader is 4.4.2 now. Trying to find a way to flash twrp without tripping Knox. Don't think it's possible. I've read that the kernel and the recovery are the parts that trigger Knox.
I noticed that there is an option to flash update zips through stock recovery. Could this be a way to flash a rooted custom rom with stock kernel and not trigger Knox?

ND3 has a locked bootloader apparently, that makes it impossible to downgrade to earlier KK builds.

No way to flash a custom kernel or recovery and keep Knox. Also no way to root on 4.4.2 without tripping knox, if you had rooted on 4.3 and kept root while upgrading to 4.4.2 you could have used MO (Mobile Odin) to flash roms.

[REQUEST]I9505 4.2.2 custom rom bootloader modified for downgrade from 4.4.2

Hii all, i have a I9505 where i must go back from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2. I know this is no simple cause bootloader is locked but i listen someone have modified the stock rom for fix the bootloader problem. Someone have this rom allredy cooked? I hope you can solve this
I would need this hack too. There is a mayor sound problem with bluetototh on 4.3 and 4.4.2.
On 4.2.2 there was no problem, so will be very good to possible downgrade

maybe if we are more people asking the same thing someone will care us
This will never happen. No developer is interested in downgrading their firmware to 4.2.2.
What you could try is to find an old custom 4.2.2. rom and flash that on your phone. Maybe it works and maybe it doesn't.

right but modem-firmware version will remain that of 4.4 the same when downgrade to 4.2
Hi.
Finally managed to test. I installed prerooted stock 4.2.2 via custom recovery. Then installed mobile odin and via this installed official stock 4.2.2. After that installed kernel link from upper posts and wifi (and everything else) works perfect. The only thing i need to do is reset counter with triangle away. It does not restart counter. It goes ok with reboot and confirm resetting, but when i check the counter still persist custom binary. If anyone can suggest me what to it would be perfect.
Later tonight i will post links which firmwares i installed.
