You really need to read a lot more before you start messing around flashing things on your device. It's ALL around this forum about not being able to downgrade.

Well I knew what I was getting myself into, flashed it pretty much a few mins after it leaked lol

Samsung build some protection so you can't downgrade, for how long that's another story. Anything software can be broken, it's just the matter of effort, keep your eyes open, maybe somebody will find way.

I searched, i read... O know How to use a forum. Unfortunately i was not able to find that

I just read an interesting news. Apparently, some canadian phones ( SM-N900W8 ) when flashed with the newly released Mexican 4.4.2 can downgrade back to a 4.3 firmware. Did somebody who flashed the Poland 4.4.2 tried flashing it and maybe you guys can downgrade to 4.3 after as well? It's just an idea I haven't really tried it.

Sorry I was late. Just quickly posted that one while on brake at work and wasn't able to get back online until now.
Edit:
I don't know if you guys can follow this guide and just substitute the files from your original 4.3 phone's firmware and make it work for your phones.

I also have an S3 i9305 with tripped knox bootloader after upgrading to 4.3. I have not tried to flash stock 4.1.2 on it after that, but it is not a problem to flash a custom 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 custom ROM on it.
Is it only samsung signed ROMs that won't boot if it's downgraded? And custom ROMs is not a problem as long as you don't try to downgrade the bootloader?

that sux! but what is the point of being able to select a BL file in Odin then?

Samsung did changes on the bootloader since MJ7, once updates cannot downgrade.
Also new firmware OS need new bootloader, means once up to latest KitKat that need new bootloader, they is no way to revert to older version as of now.

Well for us SM-N900W8 users it's possible to flash back to 4.3. Just took Mexican 4.4.2 for a spin and to me looks the same as 4.3 so I'm back to 4.3 as there's not that many 4.4.2 custom roms out yet.

Well this is being tried by me in a couple of minutes!

You need to do a lot of reading. Look for the pinned threads in the general forum. Also, on your phone got to settings, about phone and look at the last three characters of your baseband. That will tell you for firmware version.
Don't try to root it into you do all of this

This is most likely why the original owner sold it. You won't be able to install custom roms until a exploit is found or Safestrap gets 4.3 support. As for root there is a few methods but they are untrustworthy and not allowed on XDA. Best to what for a safe root method...

[Q] how to go from JB to KK? Very confused.

Hi all, Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am on Viper Rom on a SM-N900T 4.3, AND I want to try a KIT KAT rom, but I believe I need to go back to a stock rom first? So I have a few questions...I just got the phone and have been reading alot on it, but to me it gets confusing, and I dont want to brick the phone. I am rooted as well.
Where can I get the stock rom?
I have TWRP version 2.6.3.8 will this work to flash the stock KIT-KAT rom?
I am on BASEBAND N900TUVUBMI7
I read somewhere in XDA that if you go to KITKAT you can't go back to Jellybean?
Just a little confused here, and all the reading just confuses me with all the different models, roms, kernels, etc etc...
Thanks in Advance for the help, Larry

Ok, So here is what I did:
Downloaded Polish stock rom to work with tmobile.
Started ODIN. no blue box
Put phone in Download mode and plugged in to PC
Odin box turned Blue
selected AP
Browsed to the Polish stock tar file and selected it.
Waited about 30 seconds until it showed in the list next to the AP buttin in ODIN
Clicked Start
Waited about 30 seconds and then the box said Fail..
In ODIN I noticed it said something like NAND WRITE FAIl(auth) or something like that.
Im not at home so I cant be sure exactly the message details, but it sounds like I need to re-partition or something?...maybe load a different recovery?
Im using TWRP 3.6.7? I believe the number is, and I am currently on 4.3 ROOTED ( knox 0x1)
Can someone clarify this for me? I get confused because there are so many ways to do this, and different variables.
Thank you so much!!!!!!

XSA ROM

Hey guys.
Quick one, is the XSA rom you can get from samobile the stock Samsung rom? As in not telstra or Optus? Like you would get if you bought unbranded from a Samsung store?
Thanks guys. Only reason I ask is that I'm trying to figure out if my Optus firmware is crappy, I'd guess it is but just need to see before I can't take it back.
Thanks again.
Search all the different AU(?) Firmwares and see, its possible XSA is the unbranded one - although saying that, I think sammobile says if its unbranded.

Thanks again guys. Might do that in the next day and see if it's this crappy rom.
Help me understand this note 3 Knox business. So, I've had nexuses and other Samsung's and I've never had the thing where I couldn't use a previous version of Android if I updated.
So is it just the bootloader we're talking about? If I updated to 4.4.2, I couldn't use anything older than that? Even just the rom?
So how would I even get a 4.4.2 rom if say the roms didn't include the bootloader? And if I did get a bootloader, is the right one? Haha.
Sorry to ask so much, just things seem different with this particular phone and the current versions of Android.
Maybe it's just the bootloader and you can't go and use an older version of Android if that's been flashed.
Couldn't you flash a stock 4.3 official rom if you wanted to go back?
Thanks in advance.

If you flash a stock KK rom it updates the bootloader. If you get the broken up KK polish rom and don't update the bootloader then KK doesn't load.
Once you update to the latest KK bootloader you CAN'T go back to JB... You will trip Knox warranty void if you try...
Argh I see.
So basically it's the bootloader. But if you root, flash custom recovery and or rom, that's going to trip knox anyway isn't it? So if you did use a earlier version of Android, you still can, it will just trip knox?
Tripping knox doesn't make your phone unusable does it? I'm sure there will be some sort of triangle away or similar that will get rid of it. What if you flash a clean bootloader? Would that clear knox? I wonder where the knox counter info is stored and if it's accessible...
Geez, making myself sound like a noob here haha. I swear I'm an experienced flasher haha.
Just making sure I understand this before I do anything. Seems a little different than normal. Everyone should understand this stuff before they do anything. Haha.
Thanks again.

Bootloader differences

Just a quick one guys, is the bootloader any different in the firmware builds of 4.4.2? As in, NB3 or NA7 etc etc? Is it really worth flashing a later firmware to get the 'latest' bootloader? In my knowledge, I doubt there much different as it has not much of a bearing in the firmware itself, I've been told anyway.
Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, there is no difference in the bootloader between the KK builds -- or if there is, they seem to be fully compatible.

I think you can download these versions, extract it and binary compare the files inside to know if they are the same or different.
Flashing bootloaders is a risky business... These little puppies will almost always give you an expensive paperweight if something goes wrong during the flash...
Custom rom with NB3 bootloader... Like the old Androidnow rom, NC2 but developement has stopped and also Assassin rom, waiting fop the V3 with the latest base....
Both those roms have good battery life (depending on use of course) but my screen on time is generally around 4 - 5 hours with around 70% battery left....
That's insane. Haha. I'm just sick of waiting for Samsung to do there business in Australia. This is ridiculous. I've never had a device this long without rooting... It feels, unnatural haha. I'm thinking xnote, crash, bobcat it assassins.

Both... However in the last few days this has increased somewhat due to me turning off my mobile data cause I went over my limit... Bloody google+ and it's update of pictures and videos. There's a reason I use a 64gb sd card....
Well, I flashed the Netherlands latest firmware and working like a charm. Even kept my Data partition haha.
So bootloader is 4.4.2 now. Trying to find a way to flash twrp without tripping Knox. Don't think it's possible. I've read that the kernel and the recovery are the parts that trigger Knox.
I noticed that there is an option to flash update zips through stock recovery. Could this be a way to flash a rooted custom rom with stock kernel and not trigger Knox?

No way to flash a custom kernel or recovery and keep Knox. Also no way to root on 4.4.2 without tripping knox, if you had rooted on 4.3 and kept root while upgrading to 4.4.2 you could have used MO (Mobile Odin) to flash roms.

[Q] GALAXY S4 ATnT 5.0.1 OFFICIAL NEED HELP HERE!

I know the cause of this is the freedom. I used freedom when im in kitkat official. Im also rooted that time. Then i forgot to delete the "host" file before updating. Now my "at&t galaxy s4 is 5.0

I also dont know what is lock and unlock bootloader, even how to check if i have lock or unlock bootloader. What does it mean if i have lock and unlock bootloader
Note: my galaxy s4 is at&t 5.0.1 not rooted.
My galaxy s4 at&t can read any sim card because its already factory unlocked.
First, freedom is warez. DO NOT USE IT. To get you're phone working properly again you'll most likely need to flash the nb1 firmware in Odin. You can then work on rooting your device and getting back to 5.x. But you'll have to read this very carefully first, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53758227

All at&t i337's have a locked bootloader. So don't worry about that. Carefully read the link I gave you. Yes it's long and yes it's going to take a lot of reading and re-reading before it makes sense. And yes you can downgrade to kitkat, nb1, and yes you can have root on 5.0. Look at how to flash nb1 in Odin, how to update to nc1 and root, and how to keep root to oc3, 5.0.

The people who contribute here donate their time to the forums. Usually, they do it because they like to help others. For many it is like a hobby.
However, there is already a lot of information collected here on the forums. Most people don't really enjoy saying the same things over and over. And besides, it is not really very polite to ask someone hold your hand, when you can find the information and process it yourself.
Most people here would say, if you can't understand the directions, then you shouldn't probably be trying to modify your phone. So, to re-iterate what jd said, read the instructions, read them again, and again if necessary. Only proceed when you understand what you are doing. If something doesn't make sense to you, ask a specific question and someone will be happy to explain.
What should I do first?

You should flash nb1 using desktop Odin. This will return your phone to fully stock I337UCUFNB1 which is KitKat 4.4.2.
You may also want to read through this thread several times.

nb1 is shorthand notation for I337UCUFNB1, as I said in my previous post. The first part (I337) tells you that it is for your phone.

Any version of Odin should work okay. Odin3 v3.09 is usually used with the S4.
