Hello,
I have a pb with my acer Iconia.
The tablet is blocked on the screen "Android" ...
I tried the button "reset" but nothing better ...
Is there a way to make a hard reset (factory reset) with a combination of buttons ?
Thanks a lot !
PS : My Acer Iconia Tab is "rooted".
Try holding the power key down till the unit shuts off, then let go and hold it down again till it restarts. Good luck.
I've found holding the volume button closest to the corner and power button at the same time forces a restart. Of course, I haven't tried just holding down the power button alone when it's frozen, so the volume button may not be necessary.
I am having the same problem with mine. My widgets started acting weird and disappearing. I thought a reboot might help but now it gets stuck on the Android load screen. I have tried hard reset and holding volume up during reboot. The latter takes to a recovery boot but seems to search on the SD card which doesn't really help. Acer tech support is absolutely worthless and it is too late to return to best buy so now I have to ship it to acer for service. Sucks.
Try this. Plug in a usb keyboard and power on while holding volume down. Keep holding both buttons until you see clearing cache in the upper left and you can then enter a menu by hitting HOME on the keyboard. There is an option to do a factory reset. You will lose all user data by doing this factory reset of cache and data but it may just get your tablet back. There are some other posts on this in dev if you search. Good luck.
maybe.you, both have a bad app that is causing this
try comparing installed apps .might.find what is the.cause

I did this and it will boot now but during setup the setup wizard FCs and starts over. I checked the Dev sections and I didn't see anything on factory resets? I'm running out of options.
I would try a couple times to boot since cache has been cleared, sometimes it will fix itself after the programs have a chance to JIT compile...it is typical in Android to see some FCs after the cache is cleared. If after a couple boots things aren't working their way out then you may have to flash a system image for your build, however this shouldn't be necessary unless you rooted and changed some stuff like uninstalled system apks etc.
What I did before the factory reset was replace the whole /system/app folder ( that I deleted some bloat ) with one that was complete like stock. I got a bunch of FCs, followed by a black screen. So I followed the steps you provided because the symptoms fit.
I've also done multiple restarts and the setup wiizard is still FCing.
this is my build Acer_A500_1.104.02_COM_GEN1 doubt this will help me.

If I were you (note the disclaimer), I would find and flash the complete system.img file for your build (see the [Dev] System Images thread). Once you have the proper system.img for your build in hand, then you can write the system partition in it's entirety. You can find examples of this in the same dev thread.
Cliff's notes:
Use adb to connect via usb and place the the system.img into /mnt/sdcard (adb push command), or you can do this another way if you have access to your storage via USB. It will take some time to copy, several minutes at least.
You will need root to do the rest, but obviously you already do if you overlaid system/apps. Using the adb shell as su, mount the partition as writable and use the dd command within the adb shell to restore the system partition. It will take several minutes to write, so don't panic.
Here is an example of the dd command if your .img is called system.img in /mnt/sdcard:
>adb shell
# su
# dd if=/sdcard/system.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3
# reboot
do i need to try adb i cant get my android market to load it force closes every time, i wished i could just load an factory image from older version and then let it grab the updates and start from fresh, i am rooted which may have been a mistake. i can hook an usb keyboard up hold home key get into recovery but if i put an rom.zip on sd card it doesn't see it.....what am i doing wrong.
Hi There,
I have also the problem that when I booting my tablet it stucks on the Android logo. I have tried to hook up an usb keyboard but he canĀ“t find him. I get the Androidman with a note of exclamation.
Can someone tell me where I did go wrong? If I try it I see the cache messages etc. in het left corner.
My tablet is not rooted.
if you want to do hard reset first of all make sure you have an appropriate upate.zip on you external sd-card preferably use a stock rom.
after you do volume+ (up) and power once it vibrates keep your finger on volume + and toggle the screen switch few times. then let it go it will update.
Thank you for your answer.
I have searched for a update.zip and I have download and ecrypt this file: Acer_A500_1.104.02_1.141.07_COM_GEN1_1305615165779_f0150ee4
If I put this file on my SDcard I still get the androidman with the ! in it.

That file is an incremental update and is ONLY for updating FROM 1.104.02 TO 1.141.07.
If your version doesn't match exactly, the update will fail. You'd be better off grabbing one of the 3.1 OTA updates in the thread in the dev section, as these are full ROMs.
I have tried the HC 3.1 ROM. This ROM was 487 mb but I still get the Androidman with the ! in it.
I have tried the file: Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1.
The other files were 47mb
Reformat your SD card, or try a different one.

I have a similar problem. Tried this and was able to do factory reset. However, after that, the same. The tablet is still stuck on the screen "Android" ...
During factory reset, I noticed the following messages on the screen:
E:/dev/block/mmcb1k1 does not exist
E:/dev/block/mmcb1k1 does not exist
E:/dev/block/mmcb1k1 does not exist
E:/dev/block/mmcb1k1 does not exist
E:failed to mount/sdcard
E:can't mount/mnt/sdcard/update.zip
What does this mean? Is there a way to fix it?
Somebody, please help! Thank you!

Try step 2
Also, advice for a hard reset.
Hi folks,
Have tried following the advice below, downloaded: Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1.
Added it to my SD card and then tried to boot whilst holding volume down.
It seems temperamental. Sometimes the Android with the ! appears and there's no progress bar. Sometimes the Android with the ! appears and there is a progress bar, but it never makes it past 25%.
I've tried formatting my SD card and redoing it but no joy.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
Couldn't find a thread with precisely same situation - this morning I left my Iconia with WiFi off on standby with plenty of battery left (70ish %), only to just find it powered off. Now when I try to power it on, it stays in the Android boot animation and doesn't go anywhere from there.
And like I said in the title, it isn't rooted or in any other way hacked, so this is really weird. I think a factory reset would make it work, maybe, but if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them before resorting to wiping.
Also I have no idea how to do a factory reset without CWM. Long press reset button doesn't seem to work?
Hold Volume Down while turning Power On?
Nope...it tries to run update.zip

A simple method for wiping is described in this thread.
Alternatively you can connect an USB keyboard, boot to recovery (vol-down + power) and press HOME on the keyboard. This will open a menu where you can select factory reset.
It got stuck at "Erasing cache" but I just shut it down and rebooted, now it started. Thanks a lot. Somehow I think I'm going to root it now and put CWM so I won't have to lose all my data because STOCK ROM crashes for some weird reason and I don't have a backup.
in my opinion u should just go ask for replacement....
i have some issues with a vegacomb 3.2 in a booting into recovery. my device is Viewsonic Viewpad 10s. in first i'm update to bluetooth fixed problem. everything work fine untill i update and get some issues
1.WiFi can't connect at all , all of it. no secure , WPS , PEAP , WPA WPA2
2.can't recovery with CWM or power button
i can't do anything with that all so i try to factory reset and i get it ****ed up .. OTZ
so. i want to reflash to build 7 and update to build 8. can i fix this or my viewpad 10s become a toilet paper now ?
To enter in recovery mode, use RomManager.

can't use ROM Manager to recovery too. WiFi can't connect and when it appear allow a superuser. a program become idle and didn't do anything
Sounds like a bad flash. I'd reflash modded stock v2, then boot to recovery and wipe user data/cache/dalvik and then reflash the full 8.1 ROM. This should make sure you have a working CWM and probably fix your wifi issue too.

NO! If you are using VC 3.2 you should avoid using the ROM manager provided recovery as it is for the wrong tablet (g tablet i think) and it WILL soft-brick your Vega.
I've soft bricked my vega using this exact method!
How do I unbrick please?

When you say "soft bricked", what exactly does the tab do when you turn it on??
Best way to recover is to power down tab, attach tab to computer with usb cable. Make sure tab is charged, or plugged in at the time. hold down the back button (top of tab, next to power button), then press and hold the power button for 2 seconds, then release it while you continue to hold the back button another 2 seconds, then release back button. Your screen should flash once quickly, then stay off.
Now, if everything worked, click on the Mod Stock icon on your computer. and after a little time it will start writing files to the tab. If it says device cant be found, you are not in recovery mode, try again the power/back button instructions, it may take a few times before you get tab into recovery.
There are more precise booting into recovery instructions if needed, just Google "rooting Advent tablet"
I'm assuming you already have the usb drivers, and the roms on your computer, and know how to use them.

I have exactly the same issue! I have Vegacomb and wanted to go to HoneyIce as my son can't get skype to work BUT i can't get into Recovery in order to update. Rom Manager just reboots and all i see is the 'Warning about free software' then it just boots into VegaRom.
Would love someone to help if possible?
Thanks in advance
Hi, after updating my acer Iconia Tab A500 this afternoon (Jan, 6), my tab rebooted as usual and after it switched on it got stuck on the Android splash screen. I switched off and on the device several times and tried resetting it (from the reset button) but nothing has changed. Boot is looping continuously but doesn't open up. I would appreciate if someone can help me out with this problem and resolve this matter as quickly as possible so I'll start using the tab again.

Sounds like you updated to the wrong image. Can you explain exactly what you did to upgrade? This is the behavior you'll see if you installed the wrong image.

I don't recall the update exactly cause it happened so quickly. I'm sorry I can't be of any more help but is it possible to restore the tablet to its factory default setting? I have tried numerous ways to reset it but to no avail.
FACTORY RESET WITHOUT LOGON
ACER A500
1. Power Down
2. Make sure the Screen orientation is off (slide to left while landscape mode)
3. Hold down the right volume key (Volume up (+)).
4. Hold down the Power Button.
5. When it buzzes let go of the power but keep hold of the volume up button (+)
rock the screen orientation switch quickly back and forth once.
6. Should say :

Hi thanks for your help but I already tried this with no success. I also did the manual reset where I inserted a paper-clip where it says reset, but still nothing. It justs boots again and gets stuck at the Android splash screen again. The strange thing is that it flickers as if it is going to move on but it repeats the animation of the Android splash screen in an endless loop.

Pressing the reset button with a paperclip does NOTHING. It only powers it off, basically. It is not a reset as you're thinking. It is like hitting a reset button on a computer. It just reboots it, it does NOT reset the OS.
Did you follow the instructions I gave you to actually reset the OS? And did you get the messages saying it's erasing data etc. If not, then you need to get that working.
Please let me know.

Hey TimmyDean, I used this method and it definitely worked for me. I had the exact same problem the OP did where no matter what I did, I got stuck in boot loop. The difference is I didn't update anything. I simply tried rebooting my tablet cause it had been running for like 4 days straight...lol
Anyway, I got it back to some weird looking ROM, and it works. Now I'm just trying to do a nandroid restore to get my old settings back.
*I think the 'key' to using or trying this erasing data method Timmy Dean has posted is exactly when you feel the tablet vibrate immediately release the POWER button but keep holding the Volume+ (right volume button). The second you release the power button, flick the landscape lock switch (the switch to the right of the volume button) real fast to the right and back left again, leaving in the left position. I had to do this a few times to get it right, I kept thinking it wasn't working either...but I tried and tried again.
Thanks again TimmyDean
Yeah, I got this to work, but mine said: "Erasing Userdata...

What do you mean by a dead tablet? Does it mean it cannot be fixed anymore???
Coz I have the same problem with my tablet. Please, can anybody help???
If you installed a bootloader for another version of tablet it is most likely a true brick. Acer might be able to fix but it could cost you... At least your tab still serves as a nifty paperweight...

I will "1 up" you. I will pay shipping.
Seriously though, there are only 2 options.
1. If you all were clever enough to get your UID number before all this happened. Then, you can NVFlash a new bootloader and recovery. Threads for getting your UID can be found in the Dev forum. Lot's of ways. I hear tell you can even look in your windows/temp directory at the tmp files and maybe find it.
2. You can try to look at Vache's thread in the Dev section "full package and updates". Grab an update.zip, put it on your SD card, and try holding either Vol+ or - and PWR at the same time. See if there's enough life left to install it. Probably not, but you never know. Would also try the rotation lock button thing as well. One never knows.
If you see the update start to install and fail, try a different update file. Heck, try it a couple of times.
Other option, send it to Acer for repair.

Good evening everyone, i'm having a serious issue with my samsung A5. It was rooted, with custom recovery and custorm rom (Android 6.1 i think).
2 Days ago, a chewingum got stuck on my screen. I tried to remove it with nail paint remover, it did the trick but then my home button stopped working: the button itself can be pressed normally, but it won't work. I also experienced randomly long home button press actions, so i decided to turn them off. I thought that few drops of liquid may actually have gone beneath the home button. Few hours later, i experienced more issues: volume going up without anyone pressing the button (and the buttons are not stuck at all, and that side never got close to liquids), power button not doing his job etc. I tried to do a soft reset by recovery (cleaning cache and dalvik) but i ended up aslo factory resetting it for a distraction. Reconfigured the device, everything was back to normal (except the home button) but then i also experienced a couple of random volume up and crashes upon making phonecalls. SO i decided to reflash the entire rom, downloaded it + gapps, put into the decide, rebooted in recovery. Wipe cache, dalvik and also system i think, then i tried to intall the zip files but they were not there (probably i should have avoided wiping system, i get confused sometimes). I turned the device off and on, and now i'm stuck on bootloop (regular mode), can reboot it but it seems i can't go in either recovery or donwload mode (so no odin flash). Device is not recognized by the Pc. I keep rebooting it with power + home + volume down and as soon as i see the screen turn black, i try to press again volume up + home to enter recovery, but it goes straight to bootloop.
Any idea on how getting out of this situation? Thank you in advance

Sadly, no software can fix broken hardware, it's probably best, as you'll now know, not to pour chemical liquids onto electrical devices, and just what kind of chewing gum exists that requires such extreme cleaning measures from a flat, non-porous surface I'll never know.
That said, as for rebooting, a force-restart on your device *doesn't* require you to hold Home+Volume down+Power, that should only reboot you to bootloader/download mode.
Try again only holding Power+Volume Down. THEN, when your screen goes fully black, immediately switch to Power+Volume up+Home.
You should then boot into recovery mode without any loop.
Good luck!

I didn't dip the smartphone into a cup of liquid, i just took a piece of cotton, poured a bit of nail pain remover (don't know the exact name in english, sorry) on it and then scratched the part where the chewing gum was on (on the soft touch back key, which works 100% fine).
I am trying using the method you described, but it seems i can't go into recovery. Maybe i'm not quick enough! will keep trying. If you have any other suggestions i will be glad to hear that!
You could try to make a USB jig, or buy one off of eBay. They're really cheap. Its basicly just a resistens that force the phone to download mode. It have worked fine for all my Sammy's including A310 so it probably works for A (15) series as well.
Just put it in USB connector and press power for a few secs and you should be in download mode.
Just an idea if everything else fails

A hardware problem could NEVER be fixed by software ways... Unfortunatelly...
It seems that liquid made some changes on your PCB (maybe dissolved some isolators inside??)...
Anyway, go to service or replace it!
Hello everyone, i've updates about my problem and i would be glad if you could kindly point me in the right direction.
I purchased an USB Jig as suggested by one of you guys, i forced the device into dowload mode and installed a fresh stock firmware + custom recovery. When i try to boot i get a bootloop on samsung logo, and can't go into recovery probably because of the broken home button. I would like to enter recovery by using ADB command, i used to do it in the early days of Android but i'm a bit rusty and all the guides tell the procedure from an already functioning device. Since i can start it properly, is there a way to reboot it in recovery via ADB?
Thank you in advance

if you can access Download mode try this. hold volume down+home+power button. once the screen is black simply turn your finger to volume up while still holding the power and home button then release when SAMSUNG appears.

Thanks for the suggestion, but still couldn't get into recovery. I think the home button is really broken, therefore i need to access recovery in another way.
Cause i flashed the stock samsung firmware twice with odin and i can't still start the phone properly, every guide says that a wipe of cache and dalvik solves the situation. But i need to get into recovery for that.
I can't go into recovery with normal procedure probably because the home button is not working, and all the guides about adb commands say that you need to plug in your phone when it has fully started. So i either need a way to force the device into recovery with my computer, or a firmware that once flashed doesn't give me bootloop
