I have Waze (a gps map app) running on my phone while I am driving. Since updating from stock rooted MDL to MF9, Waze will somewhat regularly report that it has lost data connection... eventually it reconnects. I don't remember ever having this issue on the same routes with MDL. I've searched here and haven't really found anything, but I seem to remember reading sbout users having MF9 modem issues. Are there any known issues with the MF9 modem? Should I go back to the MDL modem with the MF9 system, or would that cause any problems? Thanks!
(Just a side note... it is mindblowing how much better the GPS is on my G4 than it was on my E4GT!)
I myself have the same issue occasionally. For me it was/is a sprint issue. Magically when I use the Verizon 00001 prl the data doesn't drop at all. I have the same issue with all the modems. Just my experience.

My i9505 has been misbehaving when trying to connect to 5GHz wifi since the 12th of October, when I flashed the then-newest official Cyanogenmod 10.2 nightly; before that it had been working with any problem on those same nightlies. Something must have been introduced between then and the 2nd of October; I didn't do any flashing during that time as I was abroad on business, so I'm not sure exactly when the change might have been introduced. Since that time I've moved to a 4.4 ROM but the problem persists.
It seems that I'm not the only one having problems with 5GHz wifi on AOSP ROMs - Google turns up various problems on different ROMs and devices. There are even suggested solutions such as editing text files in /system/etc/wifi or changing one's router's channel. None of these work for me.
The symptoms vary. Some of the time the device will simply refuse to connect to 5GHz networks. Other times it will connect and work normally for a time, anything from approx. 1 minute to 30 minutes or more (the latter making me think for a while that the problem is fixed). But, eventually, apps will stop getting a network connection and I'll be unable to ping anything. Despite this total lack of connectivity the wifi indicator will show that the device is still connected to Google's servers. Turning wifi off and on will start the cycle again, until I give up and switch back to 2.4 GHz.
This is rather frustrating and I wonder if anyone has any clue what it might be, or how it might be investigated further.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Yes, i have similar problem. i changed few custom roms, and nothing helps. First, it works normal, for few minutes, then wi fi go automaticly off, and then i cannot connect to wi fi network
I noticed this on 4.3 all versions, but since I updated to 4.4 official on my i9505G, the problem went away. I think it may be s bug in the NON-HLOS in the 4.3 roms .. official or otherwise.

I think it came in on 4.3, and I wonder why it is still affecting me on 4.4 as some people are reporting that has been fixed.
When official jfltexx CM11 nightlies come out I'll try a clean flash to see if there's any change.
I decided to try something similar - I updated to the latest UK firmware and then did a clean flash of an unofficial CM11 4.4.1. 5GHz Wi-Fi still doesn't work properly, as above.
I can get better results within a couple of metres of the AP.
I have read many of the bug threads and thought if this were an issue for others it would have been a hot issue. With my nexus 4 since the jrt16o and s updates when I charge my phone up and then unplug it while connected to WiFi and then leave WiFi range to use data sometimes the data will connect and disconnect constantly until I restart the phone.
Also I cannot use 5ghz WiFi with the phone but I'm not too concerned with that. If anyone has ideas of what I could do I would appreciate it. I have flashed back to 4.3 and let the ota happen and still problems. Clean flashed through fastboot both krt16o and s and tried various Roms. Have also flashed back to the .84 radio with no change. I'm beginning to wonder if it could be a problem my specific carrier. I am with Tbaytel/Rogers in Canada.
Thanks.

I have had GPS stability issues ever since upgrade to Kitkat, namely I get a GPS lock then after 5-10 it looses connection and then takes a few minutes to get connection again.
This process seems to repeat over and over again, making it difficult to reliably use this device for navigation as it drops out so regularly.
I've tried the USSD dialer solution but no joy. My friend has also flashed several ROM and pretty much same result.
So I'm running Stock AU build and wanted to know if anyone has had any traction reporting this to Samsung??
or has any ROM proven to be 100% reliable for GPS navigation etc..

that's not the rom you must change but the modem but always efs backup before flashing modem
So any confirmed modems which absolutely fix the issue?
Nf2 is good modem
I thought the Modem firmware was just related to Cellular radio eg 3G/4G voice and data
Hi guys.
I wanted to try a custom ROM on a friend's i9505, so after reading a bit around the forums I updated the phone's modem and bootloader (all ROM threads seemed to recommend this one):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62593102#post62593102
And then tried a few ROMs.
However, they all seem to have the same issue: the WiFi signal is INCREDIBLY WEAK. If I'm not literally 1-2 meters away from the WiFi router it just loses the signal. Where other phones see a full or almost full signal, the s4 doesn't even see the network, or it sees it with just one "bar".
So, discouraged, I flashed back the stock ROM, using the instructions from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
using the "Latest Lollipop" file in that same page. I see from Odin that it indeed flashed everything, including the modem.
But the WiFi signal is still weak! Everything else is perfect, seems pure stock, but that one thing just doesn't work!
How do I get it working again? I'm not even concerned about custom ROMs anymore, I'd just like to have a stock (or anything really) with a working WiFi.
Any ideas??
Could there be a loose connection in the phone?

Anything is possible, but it seems weird that it happened just the moment I flashed a new modem/rom, don't you think?
Yes, it is rather coincidental, but you never know. I recommend checking it just to rule out.
Was the phone purchased brand new from a carrier?
Well, I tried everything, flashed countless different stock packages and modems, disassembled the phone and checked and re checked the antenna, even brought it to a repair guy who couldn't figure it out.
I guess I'll have to take it back to Samsung and pay their extortionist repair fees...
Yes I had also issue on WiFi after flashing ROM.. Most of the time WiFi saved and secured but not connect
Hello everyone.
I've been using my N910c for about 3 years, and in the last months I'm having issues with cellular reception. I'm on the same carrier for all this time, and the problem is that reception is really bad and unstable compared to my experience last year, also compared to other smartphones on the same cellular network.
The main issue is when I'm on the move, while using it for making calls while driving my car I frequently have voice calls dropped, or even worse while trying to connect to the internet during a train ride - it is most of the time simply unusable.
I'm using the latest stock ROM through OTA update, unrooted device.
What can be the problem? Is installing another MODEM or another custom ROM a possible solution to this?
Thanks everyone!
I updated to the latest modem through Odin, but nothing changed. Still bad reception.
Will installing a different kernel help with this?
