Not sure what's wrong... - Continuum General

So today I decided to fire up my old continuum and it wouldn't boot. Naturally I went into cwm and tried to restore my old backup. Looks like it didn't want to after it said it was complete I rebooted system and the phone sits on the Samsung splash screen and vibrates.
I pulled the battery and then went back into cwm and wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache. Tried to boot again and it did the same thing.
So I just want to get the phone back up and running. I don't plan on activating it. I just need it to boot to run some apps daily.
I was thinking of ways to do this and I think if I flash the stock 2.2 rom in recovery it might work. Or should I Odin back?
I don't really remember how to use Odin since it's been so long. Nor do I have any of the files on my pc.
Any suggestions on what I should do to get it back up?
Thanks.

Honestly I would just go back in and use Odin. I have deleted most of my old files. but they should all still be on the forum. Some of the links may be broken. I can always check for you and repost files if links are broken and I have still have them. (I can't remember if I wiped that hard drive or not, the laptop was misbehaving and I think I did a clean install). I will try and check tonight. You might want to try reinstalling the base file in CWM depending on which version you are running, I have had some backups go corrupt if I changed the wrong thing...

WOW...Surprised to see some activity on this forum!! It's been a long time! I still mess with the old Continuum once in a while just to try stuff out. I have the EG04 files still if you need them. Still have some of TB101's mods too.

Nah I'm just running 2.1 I found some files and got it back. I'm not using it as a phone just a money making machine. Thanks though. I moved on to the droid dna like 8 months ago.

Just stock, rooted. I actually use some of the TW features like multi Window. 4.3 should be rolling out to us soon, so I'm check it out and then decide if I want to go with a custom rom.

[Q] paranoid note user wanting to install paranoid android

if you read my last threads you will know i mashed my other note to pieces....
on my desire i would flash roms 3 each week without messing the phone up, so after messing up my note through formatting through cwm while on ics i am a little/lot scared about doing it again..
so i want a little help if you guys would be so kind
i dont have the new phone with me right now, but this time i am going to learn how NOT to brake the phone before i start playing with it.
so could you please walk me through this, explain to me as you would explain to a child LOL
so as i understand it, i need to keep to gingerbread then root it, go into recovery and flash the rom from there? do i use the normal phone recovery to do this or do i have to install cwm?
i am a little worried about using cwm again tbh, or can i use mobile odin?
i want to know the easiest way, the most fool proof....
damn i was never this worried with my desire.
your probably thinking "if you are so scared then why bother" right? its just the phone is so damn laggy, even compared to my desire which was built by cave men
cheers for the help guys, asuming i get some ofcourse :fingers-crossed:
Start from a gingerbread rom, then fully root it and install clockworkmod, next boot into recovery(volume up+power+home button together). First flash paranoid android rom then flash gapps, lastly wipe data, cache partition and dalvik cache. Reboot and enjoy

Yes, you can flash from one of the supposedly known safe ics kernels to speed the process up BUT if you want to be 100% safe in flashing to any cm9, start with a gingerbread rom.

Cool thanks, I will just do that when the time comes then, for some reason this phone is no where near as laggy as the last one, and I have all my apps I had on the other device plus more....

So is it still okay to root through cwm and then use mobile odin? Are there any decent roms out yet that have decent s pen usage?

I also just received my note from samsung after bricking it with CWM. I am so afraid I might brick it again trying to install paranoid android since I have to wait nearly a month to have my phone back in case anything happen.
Just one question, as long as I'm on paranoid android, can I just format or factory reset my phone through settings or recovery or cwm safely? Thanks a lot.

If you want to install paranoid, its cm based which means no touchwizz apps will work on it as they need the touchwizz framework. That being said, s pen still works fine and there are plenty of alternatives to the s apps (papyrus, memo etc). Also I've read that one of the devs is working on getting the s apps onto cm9 somehow, but not sure who or how its going. Also the cm9 kernel included for the rom is safe from the superbrick bug as its has the cap wlerase command disabled.
PA has a slightly different installation to other roms. I would highly recommend first installing stock rootable gb, root it and install cwm. Once that's in place perform factory reset.
Then download paranoid and g apps and copy them to external SD card.
Then FROM CWM recovery, you flash pa first by "installing zip from SD card", then do the same for g apps straight afterwards.
If you have any fc's or issues, enter back into cwm recovery and wipe cache and dalvik.
Boom, ready to go for full on paranoia
Its a truly great rom, very customisable and as ics should be.

Thanks ST, so am I right in thinking if I go the cm route then I don't have to flash the kernel first. It will do it for me? So all I need to do is root it and get a safe kernel?

The safe kernel is included in the pa rom, cm9 kernel. So long as you flash it from cwm in gb you're fine it installs it automatically.
Think mobile Odin is only a paid for app... well worth it though. Check the forum, chainfire usually releases free versions to xda community.

If you asked me. I like the stock firmware not cm9 paranoid. Because you will lose your S-Memo, S-Note and S-Planner and also your myfiles and also the MHL. All of this features are important for me. Paranoid is cool firmware but you will loose this apps...

Does not go into recovery

ok first off i am using my first nexus device which is the nexus 7. i have recently unlocked and rooted it so that i can flash paranoidandroid onto it. i used the google nexus 7 toolkit 4.0.0 too. so when i hold down the volume rocker buttons, i get into fast boot mode. after that i select recovery but when i do that, it goes pixelated for a sec and a dead android guy appears with a explanation mark over him. I'm assuming it already has a clockwork mod but if not can someone please help me?
Check your app drawer for cwm. If it's not there download it from the play store, once installed open it up and flash it. Or go back to your toolkit and flash it .

CWM or ROM Manager. It's also unnecessary to hold the volume keys to get the bootloader; hold power until the Google screen (maybe not necessary), at which point you just press volume down.

Does it boot up and function normal? Are you sure you have root?
I think you should start over. Try flashing stock 4.2.1. See what happens.
I am also very new to this. I really messed mine up twice. I had to start over time and time again just to get mine working.
Reading on here a lot of people don't like these toolkits. You have to follow the directions given to you from the toolkit to perfection or they don't work. Trust me, I learned the hard way.
I can't help with adb (I'm still trying to learn)
The toolkit will work. Like I said, try flashing a stock ROM. If the toolkit let's it flash then there is no reason it won't flash cwm.
Read the directions

did you delete the recovery-from-boot.p/ file? you would have to if youre using the stock rom, or the stock recovery will replace the custom recovery every time. use root explorer or a similar root file manager to delete it.
It'd probably be best to flash a recovery image through fastboot. You can find both CWM and TWRP in the dev section.

[Q] HELP- Nexus 4 Storage Capacity

I have a 16gb nexus 4. I rooted my phone a few weeks ago and decided to DL flash cm 10.1 to my phone yesterday. But, it got stuck in a boot loop and I restored to the android backup I had.
The problem is, now my storage says only 435 mb free, but I had around 6gb free before. I have no idea what caused this or how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh I misunderstood you, it is showing that you have 16gb its just that a lot of it is missing.
I would try deleting unneeded nandroids, especially if they are CWM as they don't get saved somewhere you can use a simple file manager to get to I don't think.
Also try clearing cache and davlik cache, if this doesn't work, I think you'll have to back up apps and factory reset through recovery.

But the nandroids are only 7.38 mbs. I don't think they are the cause of the problem. I was researching the problem online and I think it might be the lost.dir folder, but I can't find it.

I found it, deleted it, and got my space back.
But that leads me to another question. If I don't have a backup on my phone, how will I restore? Because yesterday, I was in a boot loop, and the ADB connection wouldn't work. The only reason I could restore was because I had the nandroid back up on my phone already.

If you were in a bootloop, get into recovery and choose sideload. Then you can push a rom file and flash it. Or you could just not remove the recovery. TWRP nandroid take less space.

Not a good idea, what happens if something goes wrong and you need to reflash? Better keep it handy.
I always keep my current ROM, current kernel and stock kernel available to flash in case i run into issues caused by tweaking.
That is what nandroid backups are for. Delete em.

That's when you power the phone off, download the ROM on PC and transfer it to a MicroSD card. Better to keep the .zip on the phone rather than carry a laptop around though. Lol.

I keep several ROMs and kernels on my sd card in case something goes haywire. Which has happened and I couldn't reflash the same ROM or my Nandroid, and could only flash a backup ROM I kept on my sd. I would have been screwed because I was using gps to get to a work site and wouldn't have known where to go. And couldn't have called anyone to find out since my phone wouldn't boot. From then on I have at least 2-3 ROMs and kernels etc.

Before I flash a rom like hyper drive first I create a rom slot next do I wipe data dalvik, then cache on the new rom slot?
Then flash the rom in the created rom slot. Just wanna make sure. Also when I'm charging my phone on hyper drive rom when I turn off my phone and turn it back on it goes back to stock rom and the S'S splash screen doesn't appear upon turning on, doesn't do that when I'm not charging the phone.
Also I used to have 32GB, of phone storage now I only have 1.89GB, just wondering how to fix the storage
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
There's no way to "fix" the storage. From what I have been told, the system reads it wrong and you only have that much storage for installing apps ( in your case, 1.89GB ). You still have access to the rest of your storage. You can still store pictures, songs, movies, data. Using ES File Explorer, you can see how much space you have left. I was able to successfully download over 3GB of movies on my internal storage despite it saying I had less than 2GB of space left.

Go to Hyperdrive Tweaks, Xposed, Framework Installer, Framework. Check to see if you can Install/Update. You should be in the green with matching numbers for active/bundled.
I suggest removing/editing your post about Blackmart Alpha. Using those kinds of apps are not allowed here and is frowned upon. Plus it's illegal.

I have used TWRP for along time on my note 2 but SS is new for me. Sorry if im asking dumb questions. And thank you in advance for any help you provide.

Looks like you didn't install anything on your Stock slot. When you reboot your phone make sure you active the partition that you want that particular ROM in. So for stock, activate stock and install stock backup (you did make a backup right?) and then you can then activate Slot 1 for HD and then Slot 2 for Beans. I would wipe/factory reset the ROM Slots before installing anything on top so you have a clean install.
