[Q] Switching from CWM to TWRP using what method? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, please help me out.I have a rooted International Galaxy S4 with CWM,I am considering flashing TWRP so can I simply install Goo manager and flash it?I was told the other way of doing it was by downloading the TWRP of my S4 and flashing it either via ODIN or Custom Recovery? You guys agree that both all 3 methods work?
Besides,I have a nandroid back up of my current ROM,so if in case anything goes wrong on my cousin's Galaxy S4,he can flash my Rom via Odin, right?
Please reply guys, bcz this is the only forum where help is served very well!

Somebody please help me guys

All of them will work as long as you get the right file type for which ever method you use.

The nandroid won't flash thru Odin. You'll need to flash it in the custom recovery. And a twrp nandroid is different than a cwm.

You can install twrp over cwm or vis versa without any problems.

Compatibility
Hi,
As stated before, both types of nandroid (CWM & TWRP) are different and not compatible.
I've been using an app "Nandroid Manager" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.bkrestore which can 'play' with those nandroids, which may help tou if in trouble. I think that the 'conversion' part that should somehow convert one type into the other is still not there, but in any case I think it can help you.
Good luck
Bak

Thank you so much for it but if I install CWM's backed up ROM on TWRP,will it brick my device?
I will try that app and will see how it works and report it back to you.

[Q] Rooted phone - can't flash rom and forgot to backup.

Hello, I rooted my galaxy 4 yesterday with odin v.3.07 and flashed CWM. I erased as usual when you flash another rom, but when i try to install a rom it just say something like "Aborted". I can access CMW and download mode, but can't install a rom from CMW, and I don't have any backup. Anybody know what to do? My computer knows that the phone is plugged in as i can see it in the odin program.

Hi,
You will need to find the right one for your phone HERE
You must know the area your phone came from.
These seem to be zips,so flash with CWM.

Thank you, I found it. But when i tried to install roms with CWM before it just said "Aborted", maybe their is something wrong with CWM. I read something about installing with Odin, but then i'll need a .tar file or something like that

You have to unzip this file and install the content with Odin.
After unzipping this archive you should end up witch md5 file and this is the file to put in to Odin

Maybe try installing a different recovery.
I heard sometimes these new recoveries need more than one go to install things.
Thank you, problem solved =)

[Q] Is Odin usable after installing cwm recovery?

I'm new to andriod so I wanna ask if somebody can tell me is Odin usable after installing cwm recovery? And is there any method of making a backup of the stock recovery on SM-N900 (Exonus version of Galaxy Note 3).

Yeah you can use odin, you can do a backup with Cwm or nandroid backup most use nandroid
I meant using Odin to restore to back to Samsung's stock rom even if I've installed cwm/twrp recovery!

[Solved] Recovering data from stock bootloop

Hey everyone,
Apologise for asking this question ! As it has been covered before from my research but not exactly and I am still quite confused so I'd greatly appreciate some insight from you guys.
Basically I have a stock i9505 which has gone into bootloop, it is not rooted and not modded in any way.
I've tried to enter recovery mode and wipe cache partition but it did not work, so I can do a factory reset, but a factory reset with stock recovery will wipe all of my data off my internal SD card.
I have downloaded odin but there a few different opinions as to what I should be doing, some threads say I should install CWM and run ADB to fetch the files. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498228&page=2)
Another opinion is that I should use Odin to flash a stock rom
"Install a stock ROM through Odin, as Odin doesn't wipe user data when a ROM is installed. If you want to play it safe however, install TWRP first and make a nandroid backup onto your MicroSD card. Then install the stock ROM."
(From this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/help/recover-data-soft-bricked-s4-i9505-t3236351)
Would someone be able to point me toward the correct process for recovering my files? I will appreciate it immensely.
Thanks very much!

It is the UK unlocked LTE version. I think the version number currently on the phone is i9505xxuhoj2 . However every place I have tried to DL from is one of those sites where you must sign up or it gives you an impractically low speed (sporadic connection means it cuts off the download quite quickly).
Thanks very much.

My note 3 n9005 rooted won't install custom roms. Every time I do I get an error.

So my note 3 n9005 always comes up with an error whenever I try installing custom roms. Even with Cwm or Phil touch recovery my phone gets bricked. Any help

Check phone model by booting to download mode first .
Sent from my SM-N930F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Rom should be zip file and flashed as zip through custom recovery .

In certain cases, custom recovery won't stick after reboot. The stock firmware will replace it.
Best procedure is to untick "Auto-reboot" in odin and flash TWRP or Phil'z, then manually reboot directly to recovery.
<I use rom manager to flash my Cwm>
Thats your problem . Dont use rom manager at all .Multiple identical posts on the forum .
TWRP is better than CWM, in my opinion. More custom ROMs seem to be more compatible for some reason with TWRP.
2.8.7 to be on the safe side
