[Q] Touchstone Modification - Galaxy Relay - Hardware Hacking General

I just got a Galaxy Relay 4G to replace my Pre 3 soon. I got so used to Touchstone charging so I'm planning to carry it over to the new phone, like some others have done:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/spr...stone-mod.html
Problem is there aren't any resistors around the Micro USB port where usually most mods hitch the wire into, and I suck at soldering something that tiny. Anyone got any tips on how I can solder it? The negative wire goes to the shell of the socket and positive wire to the 5V line on the port. For starters I know I need a new soldering iron, the 60W one I have is way overpowered.

Anyone got any suggestions on how I can go by this?
Thanks.

[Q] two gold pins on back of phone?

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I didn't know how to search for this.
On the back of the phone without the cover on, there are two pins left of the battery.
shown here.

Any word on what it is for?
My thoughts: inductive charging being released later
Hmm, I have no idea either, but concur with your guess! Maybe the inductive kit to be released later will come with a replacement backing piece and a stand/matt for the other end? Hmm...
Considering there is supposed to be an inductive charging kit in the future for this phone, I would imagine these are the forward compatible charging points for the back that would come with the kit.
Personally, I would prefer an extended battery rather than an inductive charging kit.
It does make sense.. for those who can't wait, there's mods for other phones (Nexus/ Note) that use the palm pre components to create a DIY inductive charging if anyone's interested

Japanese SGS3 Variant missing wireless charging pins.

Got this surprise after I ordered the Touchstone kit. I am kind of bummed.
Think it was to make room for the 1seg antenna on the top left side.

those are usually diagnostic pins not wireless charging
Dr. You are usually right about the pins but not in our case. We gave two exposed pins that ha vCard e been proven to be for wireless charging battery cover. The antennae test pins are covered on the steering us variant

[Q] Connecting to the back charging terminal

Hi guys!
Is it possible to connect and charge the phone through the back connectors?

My USB port seems to be broken and I was wondering if there is a way to modify a cable so that it can connect through the back connectors (which are supposed to be there because of the kick-ass car mount HTC was going to sell with the HD2)? I have seen a thread here of a guy doing it but I can't find it.
..or you can just use those External Battery charger but much better to get an Extra battery
I already ordered an external charger but I was wondering if this back terminal could be used.

Get snipped! Dock charging

I've got a dock for my Fassy in each car, and docking it flips it to landscape mode, and since I've got mine running at 800mhz, its not the fastest to do all the operations when undocking. When someone calls me, I've got no chance at answering.
The solution? Snip your cables! Just drill a hole in the back so you can use a screw driver to pry off the back plate. Then snip all the cables except the black and red ones. Now you'll have a charge only dock, no resistors to tell the phone its in a dock. I couldn't find a software solution or a kernel hack.
While I was in there, I installed a bolt so I could bolt it to my dashboard.

[Q] Camera flex cable (tiny) extension

Hi
I bought and disassembled a nexus 7 recently for a design project I am developing.
I was hoping to play around with the position of the front camera (an inch or so). I knew the flex cable was short but I thought finding an extension cable would be easy.
Turns out it isn't.
I wanted to ask if anyone here knows if there are extensions cables available for the camera connector used in nexus 7?
I found MANY "test cables" for iPhones but unfortunately they use a different connector, and other suggestions I find online all involve the use of microscopic soldering skills (which I don't posses)
Any input would be appreciated
Here's a photo of the connector
