This "dinosaur" can run Jelly Bean 4.2 in case you didn't know, plenty of custom ROMS in the development section. If your staying on 2.2 then there are really no "tips and tricks", as those ROMs are very stable. The basic steps for flashing a ROM with this phone in recovery mode are as follows : format system, data and cache under "mounts are storage"(this is optional but recommended for a clean install). The next steps are necessary everytime you install a ROM unless told otherwise by the developer : wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (under advanced) then install your ROM, now go back to the advanced section and fix permissions, now reboot and wait ten minutes. Note, if your going to flash from 2.2 to jelly bean then you will have to flash the ROM twice, the first flash just updates your recovery mode.

Thanks I wouldn't have known to flash twice on the jb ...I woulda just flashed back to stock and gone from there.
Also if im correct back when this phone was the phone to have ....flashing anything over gb meant loss of gps, wifi, along with other issues....does thus still hold true today?

Phone is quite good, much better than the new HTC Desire Triple with an easy-beating screen! I ran it by Sadanand 4.3.1, works perfectly!

Unfamiliar to HTC

So I offered to help a co worker out since she is completely unfamilar with rooting or flashing. I'm more familiar with Moto and Samsung, never had an HTC so not sure how different it is but basically her Evo 4g has been acting very buggy. I think she is on Synergy RLS 1 and I want to put a more up to date, stable rom just not entirely sure how to go about it. This is the phone's info.
Model number PC36100
Android version 2.3.3
HTC Sense version 2.1
Software Number 2.76.651.4
PRI Version 1.52_003
PRL 03026 Kernel version 2.6.35.10-dodge kernel_v1.6-g5512dll-dirtydodge #6
Baseband 1.07.00.1129
Build number Synergy RLS 1
Browser version WebKit/533.1
Sent from my XT875 using Tapatalk
The first thing I would suggest if she likes her synergy would be to reboot into recovery via holding down power button and selecting recovery, once in recover use volume rocker to navigate to wipe menu and select it with power button. Once in wipe menu navigate to cache and select it with power button to wipe and do the same for dalvik cache also. The navigate back to the reboot option. That should take care of her issues if its something that hasn't been done previously.
But if she's set on trying a new rom,
First thing is to find which ever rom you will be using and download that. Next hold the power button for power options and select recovery. When in recovery look for backup/restore. You need to do a current backup in case anything goes wrong when flashing a new rom. So after you have your backup your current nandroid, you navigate back to the wipe menu and wipe everything except SD card. Then navigate to flash menu and flash rom then navigate reboot device. That's the basics any way

Is it just me, or do these software versions look way wrong and/or old? So old, that I don't even remember them, and I've had my Evo since launch day. I'm hoping someone else will jump in to confirm or deny that the versions I'm seeing look way off.
Like the kernel, I've never even heard of that kernel. Where did she get it? Dirtydodge? Never seen that on xda. On synergy, I would recommend flashing the freedom or chop suey kernel (thru recovery, just whip cache and dalvik cache first). Or reflash synergy rls1 over itself wiping only cache and dalvik cache to restore the kernel that came with synergy rom initially.
PRL 03026? Never heard of it. Current sprint PRL for most is 60683. She should flash a stock sprint/HTC sense 1.0 ROM (I would suggest tommytomatoe Classic or brad560s stock ROM, both found in the Evo development forum) so that she can go to settings>update profile and PRL.
11.29 radio/baseband is froyo-era radio (Android 2.2), and also should be updated. Radio can be flashed thru hboot or recovery. Check thread by Calkulin for radios in the development forum. Flashing radios is touchy (you probably already know this), they appear to flash twice, but DO NOT PULL battery mid flash, just let it do its thing.
Her poor Evo needs so much maintenance I'm surprised it's functioning at all.
I would:
1. Reflash synergy over itself to get stablish again.
2. Update radio to 2.15.08.08 or 2.15.04.08
3. Select more current ROM to update to (there are many in dev section with dates attached)
4. Flash ROM
5. Go to settings and update Profile and PRL
6. Everything should be pretty up to date at this point.
7. Browse through dev forum to select ROM to settle on for daily driver (whether she wants to keep HTC/Sense or AOSP....All ICS roms for Evo are currently probably a bit too buggy for her [not for me, but to each their own]).
Newest Android version for HTC/sense ROM is 2.3.5. You'll want to probably be on 2.3.5, or at least 2.3.4. 2.3.5 fixed some issue with voice dialing while traveling over 35mph, or something like that...something I don't use.
Good luck. ......poor neglected Evo

That's not an evo 4g radio. As scottspa and evo4gnoob said, she may have the shift. If there's a slide out keyboard, it's the shift. If not, that's one of a kind haha
Thank you guys so much. You guys have a nice community compared to some of the ones I'm used to lol.
But that's what I've been trying to figure out. If she had an evo 4g or a evo 4g shift. She had gotten the phone from a friend of a friend and is completely new to android so she had no idea what the phone was. She kept called it an HTC. Anyways I googled the model number on from her phone info and the evo 4g kept popping up but yeah it does have a keyboard. So completely wrong forum lol thanks guys again for steering me in the right direction.

[Q] CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC1

Hey all,
couple of quick questions, would very much appreciate an answer.
I'm using MB525, green lens, CyanogenMod-7.1.0-jordan-Quarx, 2.6.32.9-gbc356f0 kernel and would very much like to update to 7.2.0, since it's almost been a year since I flashed the 7.1 and the defy is starting to lag a bit. The question is, do I just flash the zip from recovery and wipe it clean? I don't need to keep anything, except my contacts and I'm planning to use Titanium Backup for that (right?). Will I be able to roll back to the stock ROM? Because I've still got 1 year of warranty left on the device. Other than that, did any of you experience any serious failings of the 7.2.0? Thanks a million.
Install the froyo kernel builds for green lens. cm72 is very fast and stable, no major issues at all.
Download the zip and install through cwm, before that do full wipe. factory reset and wipe dalvik cache. For Contracts why don't you sync them with Google account and is pretty easy, otherwise you can just use export function to sdcard from settings of contacts application, and later you can import back.
Titanium backup is for application backup, not for contacts.
You can always come back to stick froyo for warranty purposes by fishing full sbf of your region. Never ever flash full sbf of higher revisions,2.3+ versions, so you keep downgradability.
Enjoy fishing!

Awesome, thanks! I figured I'll go with euroskanks ROM, "update-cm-7.2.0-RC1-jordan-KANG-signed.03222012-0221.zip", since it might have several fixes that the original RC does not (amirite?). Gonna head out for couple of hours and then go on with the whole ordeal, and report back in case any other noobs come wandering in. Thanks again.

woah, what a help you are! rrrrrrrr
HOLY **** it's flying. Didn't even have a chance to overclock it yet (1Gz as before), still at 800hz, however, it's so so snappy I could not be happier. I am not a very reliable source, though, since I only kept my contacts from the previous install, but that is just because I like it fresh, meaning, I didn't have a heart to uninstall the application I haven't been using for a while and now they're gone. Aaaaand got drunk in the meantime, which is how it's supposed to go down, I think! thanks all y'all, hugs n kisses

if u are chicken as me

i think to be in safe with ICS
1- u should forget the word of wipe with its Derivatives ( format and full earse ) neither from cwm or OS menu -FACTORY RESET -
2-U shouldn't delete large files or copy large files neither from built-in explorer or from mass storage
3-if u see a thread about ICS leak or repacked close it dont read
4-dont go back to GB as u may be bricked in the way to it
5-read all threads of galaxy note
that is what i really decided to do after i flashed lpf on my GT
Exactly the same as me, the only difference being that I am on LPY. Was not brave enough to move to LPF however I pleased with LPY because I am not having any issues with it yet.

I flashed LP1, Lp5, lp6, lpy and lpf from all release Im able to go back to GB roms no problem. All we need to follow is the golden rule..don't perform any wipe and if you do it will cause you sleepless nights. Been reading different threads and almost all brick incidents are after when they do full wipe or even cache and dalvik. Also having abyss 4.2 saves me a from misery if ever I want to do flashing from rom to rom same as restoringbmy GB back up.

If you brick on the way back to GB and you are moving back to GB with Odin or Heimdall, then the damage was already done.
So yes, staying put and laying low will be safer on the assumption that your emmc is already corrupted and you wish to ride out the storm until a less than $200 solution is presented.
On the other hand, if your emmc is still good, the possibility of corrupting it inadvertently or by accident is infinitely greater by staying on an affected ICS build.
Personally the suspense was killing me so I took the gamble to move back and luckily did not brick...but the risk was real and I would not feel comfortable recommending to anyone else whether to do it or not.
My point is this, be informed that both decisions carry risks and it is up to each person to decide which risk is more acceptable for their situation.

[Q] CM10 downgrade

Hi all,
sorry if this has been asked before - I've had a look but found nothing definitive.
Last week I upgraded from stock froyo to Quarx's CM10, which although looking good, makes my phone too hot and the battery is not impressed. Having recently had my phone out of action due to a battery issue while using CM9, I'm now concerned enough to have made the decision to move backwards.
So, not wanting to go back to Froyo, I'd like to go back to a CM7 variant. As far as I know, I'm still on a Froyo kernel - so can I just flash a CM7 ROM (with a wipe etc), or do I need to go back to bootloader stage to restore the original SBF?
Thanks for your help.
wipe data + cache is enough

Really? I'd have thought a full wipe at least - will give it a go. Thanks.

yap just wipe data/ factory reset and wipe cache partition and flash zip !
Hit thanks button if i helped you :good:
Just to let you know I downgraded today to Motorola Ice Gun rom and everything has gone smooth.
Full wipe + cache + dalvik cache will be fine.
It's actually a very fast and stable rom if you were considering trying it
Its actually a full wipe, effectively

And no, apps from the market dont work either.

MIUI 3.1.11 bugs.

Any fellow MIUI user here? Yesterday, I installed MIUI 3.1.11 and I have no lock screen, and my home button is not working other than for waking the device.
I need someone to verify that they have these bugs or not, if it's just for me? I tried both miuiandroid's release and miui.us, and I even started a topic of it in the bug section on en.miui.com and they don't seem to know what I'm talking about.
I'm rolling CWM touch recovery 6.0.2.7 (from rom manager) and I went through the usual process before moving to another rom, i.e. data wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe and then installed miui. (/system is formatted through the installer zip)
i remember something like this happening on my sgs2 before. the problem had something to do with the efs/imei/keystr file being non-existant. i wonder if it's the same with sgs3
I'll Google around some more, then.
Looks like that there isn't supposed to be a keystr file in /efs/imei/ anyways. It's in /efs/factoryapp/ and both those files have "ON" in them.

Which S3 do you have? There are plenty.
i9300
i9305 (LTE, 2GB RAM)
AT&T S3
Rogers S3
Telus S3
Bell S3
Verizon S3
Sprint S3
T-Mo S3
I have the international, non-LTE S3, a.k.a. the i9300.
I'm in 3.1.11 and I don't have any of your bugs. Although I did get the no lock screen bug when I tried out bazooka launcher but that could be because that app replaces the on-screen by itself anyway.
