Voice controlled TV Remote? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I've done a good amount of searching but can't seem to find a app that I could control my TV through voice. Has any one else found/looked for this feature. I tried Utter! But couldn't get deep enough into the remote app I'm using to run a macro. I also sorta tried Tasker but i m still learning it. If it can be done with tasker then the Utter plugin should work. I just upgraded to s4 from s3 yesterday and I've tried since then to find this but I need a little help. Thanks.

Are you talking about using it from voice through the IR blaster? Are you on stock ROM?
I wouldn't think there's a way to do this from tasker via Utter, there's no profile setup I can think of that would make sense.

Back in the day I had an Archos 5 and I was able to say 6-2-0 and it would go to channel 620. That was Android 1.4 ish. I figured there would be something similiar but better nowadays. I was hoping with Utter that the custom commands would let me run one of the macros but it could only bring up the macro menu. There are quite a few remote apps to chose from but I didnt see any with custom voice commands but thats OK. With tasker I have no idea(yet) how I would go about doing that. Maybe activate a widget if thats possible. Just a thought without proper knowledge. I am on Stock-Alpha Rom. Thanks.

Screencast or similar?

I apologize if this has come up before, I did search and didn't find anything. I'm looking for a tool that I can remotely control my phone via my windows desktop. I use my phone all day at work listening to music, etc...
I've downloaded the latest release of screencast, and am able to see my phones screen, but no keyboard/mouse input is working so I still have to control the phone from the screen on the phone.
It appears that other people are having the same issue with this app. Anyone got the screencast app working properly on the vibrant or have any other suggestions for different apps?
Thanks,
Jeremiah
What do you mean you downloaded the lastest version of Screencast? I dont see an app called Screencast in the market, only an app that accesses ScreenCast Online videos called ScreenCastsOnline.

Ah, ok. Did you root your device?

Yep, device is rooted, other people are having the same issue. there are some work arounds other's are using, but didn't work for me. I just tried out vnc server for android and that worked ok, but no landscape mode. And I have to wake up my phone from the screen after it went out to be able to do anything with it, which defeats the purpose for me.
I guess I'll keep searching, the vncserver for android is pretty sweet though.
Been trying to get this, and droid explorer to work all day, with very little luck :/

Fully working BT voice dialing for the Tab. Huzzah!

Greetings one and all! After much toiling and lurking on XDA (as well as some experimentation on my end) I have finally got my Bluetooth enabled voice dialer working flawlessly! I can now initiate all sorts of voice commands directly from my headset without needing to touch the Tab at all.
I shall now explain how.
Download and ADB Push/RootExplorer/Etc the attached VoiceDialer.apk to /system/app.
This one is different from the other APKs I've found posted on xda. I ripped it straight from my N1. It doesn't mute your headset when you long-press call and talks with a robotic voice instead of a flat beep.
Secondly (and what I believe to be *the* major detail) is an alternate lockscreen is required. The Tab wasn't really built for BT voice dialing (unlike the N1), so the stock lockscreen isn't programmed to wake and unlock when Long-press Call is initiated. In my case I used WidgetLocker because it is pure awesome. Worth every penny.
And finally I do have Google's Car Home Core & Launcher installed. While I question the direct correlation, I do know they do work closely together and frankly it doesn't hurt.
Feel free to install, mix & match as you please. Perhaps you don't need a 3rd party lockscreen with this particular iteration of VoiceDialer.apk. I haven't bothered to find out.
Also don't confuse this version of VoiceDialer with others posted around XDA. It is 72.8 KB where the others I've found are 40kb and 80kb respectively.
Best of luck and enjoy your new found headset freedom!
Nice finding, I'll give it a try. However, your VoiceDialer APK is not signed. I've already created a signed version, so if you don't mind, you will find it attached.
Anyone try this out yet?
Sounds great... Will try tomorrow.

I tried it, works great.
I can now use my BT, and manage the phone. Thanks for the work.
Some times, well most times it really sucks to be a CDMA user

Ahh, thanks for supplying that. To be perfectly honest I have no idea whatsoever what the difference between a signed and unsigned APK are. I just used what I knew worked for me.

You're welcome. An unsigned apk cannot be installed directly through adb. You will receive an error complaining about a certificate.
BTW: There is a newer version (2.2.1.4) of the Google Car Home App floating around here. Google made available a customizable version for Nexus One and Motorola Droid. However this version runs perfectly nice on my tab.
Grab it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958890
Cheers
Tried the app with overcome Jupiter rom with mw600 bluetooth headset. App forces close every time I press the talk button on the headset. Anyone else has a solution with bluetooth voice commands?

vlingo works from samsung apps, but you still need to do the lock screen thing, as otherwise you need to unlock every time you want to use a voice command, which is a bit of a pain.. don't understand why samsung wouldn't have implemented this!
Thanks for the tip. Vlingo works. I heard it drains battery though, is that the case for you?
I am trying out widget locker for locking the screen as suggested by the OP. Defeats the purpose of voicedial if I have to take it out to turn it on every time I want to call, I might as well dial it on the tab.
Edit: After a few hours of playing with widget locker, I still can't get bluetooth voice command going when the tab's screen is off...

[Q] Looking for an app that notifies when 4G active

Hi,
I'm looking for an App that tells me when my phone has switched to 4G. Ideally notifying me with a sound of my choosing.
I've looked at Tasker and AutomateIt, but both seem overly complicated for the sake of one task. A bit like using Photoshop just to resize a picture.
Does anyone know if one exists? Or failing that, a simple way to get Tasker or AutomateIt to do it?
I'm using a LTE S4.
Many thanks! :good:

EDIT: I've bit the bullet and splashed out 50p on this;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tt.fourgnotification&hl=en
So far so good, but it is very basic with no option of changing vibration type etc.
I would still be interested to see if there is a more sophisticated way to do this.

Tasker. Simple commands.

Does anyone know how to configure some simple things in Tasker?

you really should add some more information to your question...
what do you basically ask over here?!?
There is an app called Tasker. And I would like to program some automatic tasks to it. For example to automatically turn off wifi and Bluetooth at a specific time and also turn them on on a specific time everyday.
I would recommend watching/reading some Tasker tutorials to get a feeling for the app, then you can ask more detailed questions if you are still unsure how to program something.
It certainly has a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite fantastic!

I installed it yesterday to give it a go. Really nice clean interface, im liking it a lot.
Some benefits.
Simple interface, clean...Shows speed and time and shortcuts to some apps (I only use music, digital radio and spotify so this is perfect for me)
Installs as an App and you can start it from shortcut, once happy you can have it start automatically on boot as your default launcher.
Has in built screen dimming which works (All other auto dimmers have never worked for me)
3 different launcher themes, im using the one in the photo.
Easy to remove if not happy

Does it work with your hard buttons?

Yes all hard buttons function the same, Back exits apps and Home takes you back to desktop.
Really its just a choice of 3 new launchers in an App rather than playing around with system files
This looks really clean!
I gave it a shot on mine. Looks really nice. I wish the app buttons were a bit larger though. Looks much more like a OEM type interface.

Ye thats what i thought, looks similar to WinCE radio launchers
One thing i found to be a pain was that android by default, launches apps you had previously running (Which includes this Launcher)
So its already loaded when your device boots up, but as you open up your music, the Self boot of the app kicks in as well and you go back to desktop.
Im sure easy to get over somehow
So you have it set to autoplay off usb? Mine was playing the music as soon as it booted. If you disable the autoplay it doesn't launch the music app on startup.
I have it and love it! Originally downloaded it because it uses power amp as the default music player, I downloaded pro because with pro I can make it as my default home screen launcher. I've been very pleased with the results so far. And I've been running its for about a month.
Does it help with the ridiculous connectivity issues that I experience with AA? (i.e is it more reliable?)

Yes, a 1 device solution is generally always more reliable than a 2 device.
I'm a bit confused by this app. Can someone help please? I bought a car with AndroidAuto built in and I made the assumption (probably wrongly) that this is a replacement launcher for my car dash. But - I'm not sure how to get it to mirror into my vehicle. Do I need AA installed, or do I use Mirror Link? Confused!
Hard Buttons
How did you connect the head unit to your hard button controls?
How to add activity shortcuts to Car Launcher app?
How to deactivate speed in statusbar?
I used the Trial for about 5 minutes before I purchased the full version. This is exactly what I needed Now, Unfortunately im going to have to purchase poweramp i think
Using it for a few weeks now. Very happy with it.
