Stuck on 3g?? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I went on a raod trip the other day and lost my 4g somehow. I'm now stuck on 3g. Anyone know how to get my 4g back? I tried this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391641 but the instructions are kinda just jumbled up but I'm pretty sure the 4 times I tried it I did it right at least once lol.

never mind just figured it out. I have a bad sim card. With my wife's sim card in the phone I have 4g

LTE Sim Card Authorization Error

anyone with the 4g LTE experiencing this error?
yesterday (December 6) my Xoom mysteriously gave this error while doing absolutely nothing on my desk. I rebooted it twice and wipe clean LTE sim card and reinserted it. at first i couldn't get any connectivity to verizon services the whole day. but this morning i saw the 3g service come back online, but still i'm getting the 4G LTE sim card error.
i tried to google search this problem and only found one post that coincided with my time frame. is there something wrong with my xoom or is this verizon fault?
Noticed the same popup this morning, rebooted and it went away and came back...
Haven't messed with it yet. Good to know I'm not alone.
Also having the same issues with my Xoom. Didn't have any connection at all yesterday but this morning 3G is working. We'll see if they can fix this.
Its an issue with the 4g outage some sim card's data was erased just get a new 4g one and it fixes it did it yesterday and now it works fine
it should be free as well from Verizon mine was at least

Just got off of the phone with Verizon and they said that there is a 4G outage and that they're working on it.
That happened to me this morning but was fine after a reboot. The possibility of this thing screwing up even more makes me want to demand that Verizon let me out of this contract as I've had nothing but crap from them and Motorola for 7 of the last 9 months.

Wouldn't you atleast be able to get 3g service if that were the problem?

we are now. yesterday i wasnt getting any connection. there's something more to this bug that verizon isn't tell us. i should have asked my fellow verizon users if they were experiencing any 3G service disruption the other day too....

I am at work now which only has 3G coverage and it seems to be working OK. Just have the annoying message. When I get home (which has 4G coverage) we'll see whether 3G still works.
Ha!! This just happened to me a few minutes ago. I got the Sim Card Authorization Error & my phone has been freaking out for the last hour or so. Having flashed a new 4G ROM this was waaay to coincidental for me. Glad (bad word choice) to see other people are having the same issue too.
It's Verizon's network.
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/12/07/verizon-suffering-4g-lte-outage/
Having the problem too and I'm completely stock.
Same problem here and also stock.
Back home (N central NJ) in the 4G coverage area, my Xoom is bouncing between "No Internet Connection" and "Verizon Wireless 3G". It doesn't stay connected to 3G long enough to be useable. Stock 3G Xoom, upgraded by Motorola to 4G and running the recent 3.2.4 update.
Earlier at work (NW NJ) in the 3G coverage area, things were stable.
Not seeing the SIM card message any more though.
Same here. Just got the sim card authorization error. Glad I'm not the only one.

It's a network issue with Verizon. My XOOM is giving me the same error. When I called tech support today they couldn't tell me when it would be resolved, but apparently it's affecting almost all 4G phones and tablets in the northeast area. Hopefully it will be resolved tomorrow.
My 4g is working normally now without any reboot of any sort. Guess Verizon fixed it

No Service and Unregistered SIM on Bell GSIII

hey guys, i got my GSIII for Bell about 2 weeks ago (and Bell has an LTE network). so a few day sfter i got it, i got no service at a place where i always get 3-4 bars, i rebooted the phone and the problem was gone. it happened again the same day and i rebooted again and it was fixed again. nothing has happened since, until yesterday. i was on my way to work and took a glance at my phone and it said unregistered SIM, so i rebooted it and it took a few minutes for it to gain access to the network again. today it happened again and i rebooted again and got LTE and HSPA back. has anyone else had this problem at all? it kinda sucks seeing as i paid full price for it and its acting up like this. any help would be appreciated
thanks
Get a new sim from Bell before you swap out devices.
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy SIII (SGH-i747)
ya ill try that, hopefully its just a faulyt sim or something
I have this problem too. Think it may be the device as I've had two Sims (first one wasn't lte) keep us posted might try another sim to be sure

ya im going in tomorrow to get a new SIM, hope they dont charge me, ill def keep u guys posted
this has nothing to do with the SIM. I have the same problem (also with Bell) and I called them. They are aware of this situation and are working on a solution. Usually happens when you go from LTE to HSPA.
They told me to switch my settings to GSM/HSPA instead of GSM/HSPA/LTE until its fixed. My SIM is new btw.
Have you tryed doing a battery pull? There is sometimes temp data that causes issues and a battery pull fixes it. When I got my S3 on launch day they said there was a delay in the network so it will be about 30mins before it shows registered SIM and works for me almost 3hrs later still no service. Went to my rep and asked me if I did a battery pull said no only tryed rebooting. Once I pulled the battery wait 30sec and put it back all was well. Try that if the issue is still there them most likely a SIM card problem and you need to go to a Bell store and sort it out.

and by changing to GSM/HSPA has it stopped the unregistered SIM problem so far? cuz LTE isnt a huge deal for me to have right now
that would be unfortunate as LTE is something that I really use now that its turned on at my workplace. If thats the case I hope an update comes soon.

of course, like I said , they are aware of the problem.
I change it back to LTE when I need speed (tethering).

ya the guy at the bell store told me to do the same thing today, said their LTE network is messed up right now and its not just GSIII's that are having these problems..on an aside, this morning i had my phone fully charged and had a 4 hour shift at work, at the end of the shift, after barely using it, my battery was at 7% ridulous, he said it was prolly cuz the phone was constantly searching for an LTE network, hopefully switching the network now increases my battery life!

[Q] t-mobile 4g malfunction

I tried to look for this problem, but couldn't find anything relevant...
finally got my unlocked nexus 4 in the mail today!
was super excited, cut my existing t-mobile sim card (I'm on a contract with them) and was able to connect to their network (can make calls and receive texts). When I try to connect to 4G, it takes ages to load a page. it takes the same page about 10 times as fast to load on 2G when i force 2G. Sometimes the page would time out and not load at all..
has anyone else experienced this problem?
Get a real microsim card, those cut sims don't work very well. They're free. I got one from tmobile and I have no problems with my 4g connection, blazing fast.
the sim worked fine on my t-mobile G2, but i guess i'll try to order a real micro anyways.
Did you set up the proper APNs? Check into that before anything else.

Makes no difference. I cut my own sim. What makes a difference is OP had a G2 and the sim cards have since been updated and he needs a newer sim card.

I tried to find a way to order a microsim online, and failed. So, I went to the t-mob online chat support, waited about 15 min, and the guy told me that i had to call in or go to a store and that a replacement would not be free of charge.
So, I called in, waited about 15 seconds, and the guy sent a microsim my way for free..
I believe magic is at work here..
will let you know if the new sim solves the problem
Yes! please let us know, im having the same issue!

when i bought my nexus 4 from a tmobile store, the sim card that came with the phone which was also activated at purchase only let me have speeds of ~39kbps download and ~9kbps upload. this lasted me for about 2 hours and i returned to the store and complained. they swapped it out with a new sim card and i've been getting about 8mbps download and 1.2mbps upload here in Salt Lake City.
not real sure what my point is, but, sim replacement is fairly easy and would be my suggestion after my experience.
well.. I got my new sim card last night and realized that the speeds have nothing to do with my sim card, but probably with the local tower. before i got the new sim card, I sometimes got decent speeds (~4mbps) and sometimes it wouldnt connect. When I got the new sim card, the speedtest gave me 4 kbps.. about 10 miles away from here I got 5 mbps.
So the old sim card behaved exactly as the new one =/
I never had this problem with the G2, though. And I would get speeds up to 20 mbps on the same network..
So this is still very upsetting and confusing

Might be a localized problem with the tower, call t-mobile, and they'll have technicians come out and look at it. Or, try another android phone and see if you have the same problem, that'll tell you whether or not it's the phone, if it's the phone, get a warranty replacement, might be a problem with the radio hardware.

same happened to me, its because they've been refarming their 3g network towers. just call T-Mobile customer service and tell them your 3g/4g data isn't working anymore and tell them the address where its not working and they'll fix it. it took a couple days
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
hmm, data service is fine here. getting around 12-14 down and 1 up...
if its not the sim and your APN seems fine, try contacting Tmo and see if its on thier end. If not maybe its simply a defected device =/
I cut my SGSII simcard and it works perfectly, it is because of the G2 using an older version simcard.
Cut my SIM card they gave me earlier this year when I switched from AT&T with my Galaxy Nexus. Also works fine. Also, you shouldn't have to mess with the APN settings. At all. Should do it automatically.

LTE Problem

Ever since I took OTA update I cannot get the LTE to stay locked on it keeps going back to 3g. My wife has the same phone and hers stays in LTE. So I know it isn't the towers. She took the OTA update also. The only difference is mine is rooted on the new KK. Anyone else have that problem? Sorry I'm on Verizon Network VS980 4gG LTE
Well I downgraded back to Jelly Bean VS98012B and stayed stock without root and still have the same problem with LTE. I switched Airplane mode off and then back on and I get LTE with 2 bars then it goes back to 3g with 2 bars. I wonder if its the phone or if I am being throttled by Verizon?
Well I seem to be answering my own questions. Turns out my sim card is bad. I tried my wife's and the phone went to LTE and stayed. I put mine in her phone and it stayed 3g. So hope this helps anyone else that would experience this. Glad its not the phone.

I'm actually having the same thing... keeps switching to 3G randomly, after a reboot it'll go to 4G LTE and usually stay, but often if I make a call, or do something it'll switch back to 3G for some time, then maybe go back to 4G... stock KK rooted here too
Did the SIM card fix it for you permanently? I may try getting a new one if so.
I'll second this. Had the same problem. New sim card and bam, fixed. For some reason I think going to international ROMs (cloudy and optimus) caused this.... The 3g roaming thing.. which is a shame because their ROMs are freaking awesome.

Yeah I went to my local mom & pop Verizon store and the idiot behind the counter said my old LTE sim card wasn't NFC ( Near Field Communications) complaint. Why is he an idiot that's another story. But I don't know how NFC has anything to do with the sim card. Anyway I bought a new one because they weren't a official Verizon store, supposedly the official store will give you a new sim card. But now the phone works like it is suppose too.

Verizon Galaxy S5 (G900V) is not receiving 4G LTE anywhere

Hi all, I am having a heck of a problem with my S5. When I first got my S5, it worked great, and sometime around September, my phone got an update, and since than, my phone is not working on 4G. I have went through all the steps of factory resets, full data resets, checked CDMA/LTE settings, new SIM cards, etc. Everything I can think of, even contacting Verizon. No matter where I am, even in the middle of town next to a tower, the phone will not go to 4G. Just sticks on 3G. Even after airplane mode, still no go. I can have full signal, and the phone will drop the 3G like it is trying to hand off to 4G, but something in the phone won't allow it to cross over to 4G. Verizon and Samsung claim this is not a common issue, but if you Google it, you will find otherwise. I hate to get a new phone because this phone was brand new, out of the box, and not even 6 months old. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE HELP ME GET MY PHONE BACK!
Also, battery life is horrible as well.

Yep. If a new SIM card didn't resolve the issue, it's a defective unit.
