Wifi+bluetooth performance drop - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Watching YouTube in my GT-I9500 over wifi is usually a pleasant experience with a fast HD video buffering. However, after pairing my phone with a bluetooth speaker, my wifi performance drops dramatically. If only bluetooth keyboard and mouse are connected this signal drop is softer but definitely perceivable.
I did some digging and found pretty similar issues in other devices.
This thread has been very informative: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=41631
but I am still not sure if this is a physical and not solvable matter or if there is still room for improvements via software
So far, I only know for sure that Android 4.3 did not fix it (in other devices).
Have you experienced this? Any workaround or advice?
I hope this helps and thanks in advance
So say we all!! from my GT-I9500

Well, it's 2018 and Marshmallow has the bug just like Kitkat, and Lollipop did. Why haven't they noticed this in 5 years?

Stuttering issues with Netflix

Recently I have been getting micro stuttering issues with my Shield while using Netflix. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? I saw some threads regarding this on the official Nvidia forums, but I could not find a fix that would work for me
If you are on stock software, I had issues with video stutter due to refresh rate's not properly changing. It also could be the infamous 1.4 update causing issues. Not sure if there much you can do, but there are updates in the works to marshmallow and that should fix a lot of problems.
So, I'm not insane.
YES. watching netflix on my shield tv with 1.4 update.. I can't stand the stuttering. It doesn't bother my wife, but it's driving me crazy. micro stuttering is the best way to describe it. Just barely noticeable. The video jumps about 1 frame every 20 seconds and the audio pops about every ten. Hope the next update fixes it!!
You could always try reverting to the 1.3 update as less people are having issues with it. I had that issue with kedi until I switched to the Full Android 1.8 ROM, but others seemed to not have the same issue.
Solved... for now.
Easiest, and laziest way (was suggested in NVidia forums) for me was to go to my google play store find the Netflix app and uninstall it, I also hit the settings and turned off Auto updates. That left me with the base Netflix app that came with the device from the factory. No more stuttering or audio popping. I have a basic setup, HDMI to TV 720p. TV speaker output for my sound. Works great for me. Nvidia claims to be working on a fix in the next OTA firmware update.
Hope this helps someone!

Trouble with bluetooth streaming

I'm using note 4 (5.0.1) with bose soubdlink 3. When I use Bluetooth streaming from my phone when I'm connected to the wifi there are occational stutter or pops. However if wifi is off nothing happens. Needless to say no trouble with aux cable either. I'm primarily using apps like gaana, saavn, youtube for streaming music or video. I have tried to clear cache in all those apps and bluetooth killed backgroubd apps. Change router channels. Tried almost all the solutions available I could find in the net so can anyone suggest any fix??

I'm having similar issues with my 910F, but only since updating to 5.1.1, it was fine on 5.0.1. They sound more like small glitches or skips, a few times a minute, but varies. It seems the problem is more widespread:
code_google_com/p/android/issues/detail?id=95294
Turning off wifi doesn't seem to work for me, but keeping the screen on does - that is not really an acceptable workaround though. I've read somewhere it might be some kernel sleep issue. I tried the 5.1.1. NamelessROM, which has a modified kernel and it seems better, but it still happens.
I wouldn't like to go back to 5.0.1, as the 5.1.1 is a lot snappier otherwise.
Happens to mine as well, turning off WiFi does help, however the true fix is to root and then change a line in the build. Prop file.
Which I'm hoping to do today. Let you know how it goes

Really annoying bluetooth problems on N6P

Okay so I'm gonna describe my problem as clearly as possible and will hope someone can find a fix for this.
Device: Nexus 6P
OS: Android 6.0.1 (latest vendor & security patch - June 2016)
Bluetooth devices used: Sony MDR 600BT, SOL republic tracks air, jbl synchros earphones, jbl flip 2 speaker.
1) pair earphones/speakers
2) start playing music on earphones/speakers
3) works fine on first run and when screen is off
4) when I switch on my screen to change the song the music stutters for 10 full seconds, then stuttering stops.
5) I change the song and again put screen off, works fine.
6) i put my phone in my pocket and suddenly my phone audio stops skipping??? Wtf???
7) so I change my pocket and put it in my hoodie pocket. (Nearer to earphones - maybe distance is the problem I thought)
8) audio still skips............:crying:
9) put my screen on to change song, audio starts stuttering again like crazy and then stops.
10) I request anyone here to heed this request and tell me how to workaround this problem
Currently running latest android MM 6.0.1 and no improvement .....:crying:
I don't understand one thing - top of the line flagship device and still these problems? Not getting value for my hard earned money. This is wrong.
I tried it with my iPod and it works like a charm. No stutters. No skips. Nothing.
Tried different Bluetooth headphones too in case my Sony earphones were the problem. NO IMPROVEMENT SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS.
TRIED USING IT ON ANY BLUETOOTH SPEAKER THE ABOVE THINGS KEEP HAPPENING AND I AM GETTING REALLY ANNOYED WITH THIS PHONE WHEN IT COMES TO BLUETOOTH.
I'm sorry for agonizing so much. But I hope you'll can understand my problem. And hopefully there's a fix somewhere in the world.
I am having the same issue, and my searches came up with this:

Is this a Play Music issue? I don't have these issues, but I don't use Play Music. usually stream through YouTube or something like that instead. Works on BT Headset and Sony BT head unit in my car.

I can't speak for Zapjack12345, but I notice it with PowerAmp, Pandora, Spotify, YouTube, basically any app that is pushing audio through bluetooth. Audio is fine when the screen is off, but as soon as I pick up the phone, and turn it on to check notifications, things get screwy with the audio
Strange. I just checked with Pandora, YouTube, and IheartRadio and all seem fine with screen off and turning it on, using the pulldown menu, or changing songs. I'm using a cheap set of bluetooth earbuds from Amazon (no-name brand), and am stock with the phone, not rooted (yet) and on June updates. Phone was purchased in May new from Best Buy.
Same issue for me as well. I'm specifically using Amazon and Pandora most of the time. Its very annoying. On Chroma and franco kernel.
What rom are you using? This has been a well documented CM rom issue so any rom that uses CM as a base will and has had this issue since mid-January. Stock and AOSP based roms dont have this issue (from what I've seen and tried).
I'm currently using the 6/15 nightly for OMNIrom and do not have these issues.
As a sidenote, this was also an issue with Android N Dev Preview 2.

I'm currently on Pure Nexus 5/6/16. Nothing out of the ordinary installed. Tried clearing the Bluetooth cache, as the issue I am noticing was similar to issues that the Samsung S5 was having, but there was no difference.
I am going to look to go back to stock and see what happens, but looking at what OP posted, it looks like they're on stock, and having the same issue.
I am about to throw my phone in the sea. BT seems like it's getting worse and worse with each update. Cmon Google/Huawei. Don't make me lose faith.

I had a little less issues when using the Dev Preview 3 but there was another issue that arised that I hope gets fixed.
If you're using bluetooth when driving around when you lose signal or drop/gain data connection the audio skips for a quick second. Through past testing I've done working with kernel devs on 2 phones, the issue is related to how the hotplugging works for the cores. If only one core is running when the connection drops there is an issue with how the cpu ramps up and/or turns on another core to handle the workload. I thought this regression was pretty interesting seeing as one the things they were boasting about at the Google conference was how android would fix slow downs and issues when losing/gaining network connectivity with N. Hopefully it'll be fixed before final release.

You and me both. I am on my 3rd 6P and my BT problems are still the same. If the BT problems were only effecting one particular device I could understand but my Microsoft band, BT earbuds and car all seem to disconnect continuously on a bare/stock phone.
Okay guys. I changed my ROM from Resurrection Remix to Paranoid Android and this issue has been solved. Thank you so much for all your help and answers!
Does anyone else have any updates regarding this issue? Literally wanted to throw my phone out of the window during the morning commute.

Yep, this is 100% the reason. It is a CM issue. AOSP roms like Paranoid Android and Pure Nexus don't have this issue. I love Resurrection Remix, but this is starting to bug me. I may jump to PA rom soon...

Thanks. Was about to ask this question. It is a CM issue.
I have had issues with BT dropping randomly in my car on 2 different 6P's. No rhyme or reason, and it doesn't happen often, but annoying when it does. Happened on MM and DP4 currently.
On the flip side, my audio quality went down on my S7E over BT when my smartwatch was connected. Somehow, that doesn't happen with the 6P meaning I can keep my watch on in the car, so I am happy.
Hey, I just found this thread and surprised it took me this long considering I've been having this issue since I got my phone in November.
My 64gb 6P was stock until earlier this week, when I finally rooted and flashed xposed. The issue stopped the day I rooted my phone, and I was thrilled.
After reinstalling most of my apps and getting back into my routine, the problem came back. I've tried booting my phone into safe mode several times before rooting so I'm fairly confident the issue doesn't exist because of a specific app interaction, but I can't figure out what it is to save my life. I might backup again and restore to the backup I made right after rooting to see if I can narrow down the problem.
Other than that, I am very new to this stuff and honestly just thrilled to have found other people having the same issue.
I only experience the problem while connected to my car (2015 Chevy Cruze), and not any other bluetooth device.
Let me know if you guys find/have found anything I suppose?
I kinda have up on trying to narrow down the issue. I tried PureNexus, Paranoid Android, I tried different kernels, different cases. Still kept skipping and jumping, no matter how far, or close it was to my Bluetooth device (car stereo, speakers, home audio system). I went back to stock, no root, no Xposed, pure and simple Android, and I have not had a single issue, it's beautiful.

Bluetooth Call Audio Issue

Hey everyone,
I checked the similar threads but it seems everyone else has issues while playing music. My issue is only during calls.
Very often, almost every time, I have my V20 connected to a car through Bluetooth I get a really bad stuttering during calls. It is pretty much impossible to take a call like this. Sometimes the problem will go away but most of the time I just can't take any calls through Bluetooth. This has happened on a 2012 and a 2016 Toyota Prius C.
I recently got the Jaybird X3 and I experienced the same issue. Which leads me to believe that the issue is with the phone and not the car. I have a Note 4 and I never experienced this issue.
I tried stopping the Bluetooth system app (apps?) and clearing the cache and data but the problem is still there. I mention apps because I see 2 Bluetooth apps. One says its version 7.0 and the other one version 5.30.13. It seems both are active since both have memory used in the last few hours.
I've also tried the unpairing, deleting, and pairing the phone several times and the problem persists.
To be honest the problem is really annoying to the point I've considered getting something else. It is just frustrating to not be able to take calls over BT.
Anyone else having this issue? Is it maybe just my phone? Any ideas what could it be or how to solve the issue?
Thanks
I tried the phone with a MB CLA 250 and the issue is still there.
I also noticed there is a lag on the audio both while listening to music and while playing a video. It is more noticeable when playing a video since the audio is clearly out of sync by about half to one second.
Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?
Or is it just me?
I can't say I've had this problem. What model v20 do you have? Are you stock or rooted (and if rooted, what ROM/kernel)?
I also have 2 system BT apps but one of mine differs from yours - 5.30.12.1
I'm using a rooted VS995 with a stock 11a rom and the NSSR 5.5 kernel.

Bluetooth stuttering? Low WiFi strength?

Anyone having stutter issues with bluetooth? Playing through my echo dot and just 10 feet away it's super choppy. Even from 3 feet I was having issues. Anyone have any ideas? I'm about to use it in my Kia soul (2012) tomorrow and already worried it won't work there. The audio issue right now is so bad it's not even usable. It chops up for a second every 10 or fifteen seconds.
Also, my WiFi signal strength is much lower than my nexus 6p. Anyone else have lower WiFi strength?
This happened to myself also... albeit intermittently. However it also happened more on my S7 with my car stereo. Usually skipping a song/waiting 10 seconds fixes it. I thought it was my phone, but now I'm not so sure. Just something I just learned to deal with when it happens. Any one find a fix?

I use poweramp. It has settings for buffer length and audio priority. I haven't really played with them much but it could solve your problem.

I don't think that will work with Spotify unfortunately.

Definitely a problem - there is a large (unhelpful) thread over on the Samsung support site too called "Galaxy S8 Bluetooth Connection" (I'm not allowed to post links here yet)
A moderator claimed it's been reported to Samsung but no updates on the status for 2 weeks from him now. Restarting, clearing cache, factory resetting seem to only temporarily help.

New moderator jumped on and blamed the problem on the other devices not being Bluetooth 5.0. So apparently the S8 is not backward compatible with EVERY SINGLE BLUETOOTH DEVICE EVER MADE. Fun!
I am getting bluetooth audio stuttering issues when the FitBit app is installed, and the FitBit battery drains incredibly quickly. When I uninstall the FitBit app everything is fine. All other devices work fine with FitBit, it's only the S8 that's having this weird issue. Any status on a fix???
