Firmware BL=4 ... Is there a solution for french language ? - Milestone 2 General

Hi everybody,
I m thinking about selling my Milestone 2 after 3 years of devotion !
(I d like to get a more powerfull phone... Would love to find one with physical keyboard, but it's very difficult to find one with an azerty version - It's only for US market generally Droid 4, Photon Q... - so i think I will take a Nexus 4 wich have an interesting price.. I talk, I talk, but it's not the point !)
So, to sell it , I d like to put it back in original configuration.
Unfortunately after many flashes, I m today on a BL=4 Firmware (Claro Argentina)
And I d like to put it in french language with an original ROM, but I think thoses Latam ones, don't have these language (I tried somes and it's english / spanish).
Can someone confirm there is no BL=4 Rom with french language ?
If I well understood, I have no chance to downgrade form BL4...
so what are my opprtunities, to get back the phone closer its original configuration with french language ?
Thanks per Advance fior your help

What about modifying an GB SBF from france, deleting everything except the /system partition, and flashing it back?
You can do that with Moto android depacker.
That wouldn't mess up your kernel or your BL, and still have support for french language and azerty keyboard.
Just thinking out loud here.
Good luck.

If it works it's a terrific idea (didn't know it was possible...)
just one question.
I have just to keep CG39 for system.
I can replace all the rest with the French GB SBF, and finally compile my sbf to flsh it.
that's it ?
Thanks a lot

You don't need to flash anything else besides /system, just create a SBF with only that partition from the French sbf.
And yep, I think that's it.
Good luck, remember to keep an unmodified sbf to flash just in case.

using update.zip
is it necesary to create an sbf? can i use a update.zip with /system on it (and nothing else)?

btw you can pick photon q buttons one by one so i got a nice qwertz photon q

Hi , I just tried to do this operation.
There 's something I don't understand. I can't rebuild a sbf , only with CG39.smg with Moto Android Depacker.
So tried to replace the CG39.smg from Claro Latin America version (the BL=4) with the french CG39.smg. and then rebuild a new sbf...
But doesnt see to work, THe phone shows the moto logo and nothing then...
Any Idea ?
did I do something wrong ?
Thanks per advance

Sorry to up (it's not in my habit) but I really need to know if I can put my phone in original config but with french language...
Is there a way to flash a rebuilt sbf with french language knowing I m already in BL=4 (cause I flashed the phone with CLARA LATAM rom)
Thanks per advance.

How to change language? Swedish to English

I bought qtek9100 and was told that it has English version of the Windows Mobile 5 in English, but it was in Swedish. Now I want to change the langauge, how to do it?
I have already unlocked the CID and phone using the lockiwiz.
I am completely new to the Mobile PDA stuffs, so try to be explicit like how to get into the ROM. I am whining also because of the linguistic reasons.
Help solicited and will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
english rom
HI!
Check out www.handdator.se if u want to write in swedish.
See the forums.
There´s alot of people knowing.
Hälsningar MrX
Sorry...U have problems with the swedish language?
....
anyway..look here for information about flashing a new rom
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard

MrX
im having the same problem with mine only mines in dutch.
but i figured i just moved here a month ago and its a good way to learn a bit of the language.
I've had my phone about 3 weeks and can now pretty much negotiate it all and picking up some dutch on the way. its all good.
Um, the question sorta confused me... I think you were asking how to change the language from Sweedish TO english... I feel the easiest way would be to flash a new rom (ok, maybee it is not the easiest, but it is the easiest I know of, it will be the most complete and you upgrade the thing at the same time, so why not?) I would flash the T-Mo 2.26, simply because it is the latest and I like it. I am not sure if it is worldwide English or American English (or what the heck the difference is anyway...) but I know it is english b/c I can read it... This rom is available somewhere around here, or PM me and I will email it to you... Hope this helps
Will changing ROM image change language?
Thank you everyone who replied to my question, yet I have some questions as below before proceeding (I used the lokiwiz0.2b to unlock sim and cid, do I still need to run the 0.3a version of lockiwiz?).
I downloaded the WWE ROM from ftp://xda:[email protected]_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
Now my question (of course newbie) is how to install it? And will Changing the ROM will change the language of the Windows Mobile 5.0 too?
Please be explicit (because I am lost in my qtek in a language which I don't understand and I am doing a guess work all the time). Thanks again.
Advice solicited!
I tried to execute the ROM image I downloaded as stated above but held back because the ROM seems to be downgrading from 2.17.7.203 SVE to 2.17.2.202 WWE. So I held back.
In the meantime, I came across three posts and got confused which one to follow?
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=54578
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56088

4) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38056&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I expect advice from the XDA experts which one to follow? My main objective is to change the language (from Swedish to English of my WM5PPC) and make the connections faster (radio, wifi and GSM).
Kindly advise. Thank you in advance.

XDA-China.com Chinese ROM

I had a friend buy me an HD2 from China. The box and everything is in English so he didn't bother to check the rest. When I turned it on, realized that the ROM is chinese. The other strange thing is that when it boots up, it displays XDA-China.com!!
I wrote to HTC asking if there was any way to change the language. They replied that the serial number checks out as a European model and that ROM should've been in English. Someone in China has "illegally" flashed in with Chinese ROM. They asked me to hard reset, which I did but nothing changed.
My question is how were they able to flash this if according to HTC this is indeed an English model?? Is there a way to change it back to English?
I logged on to XDA-China.com but its all Chinese

It was the same like when I bought the Touch HD in Guangzhou, but it was much easier as the HardSPL had already long available. And for your case, I'm getting the HD2 on the 30 Nov in China too, what we can do is just wish HardSPL to be available asap!!!!!! The easier situation for me is I know Chinese, even though I absolutely prefer English, I can stay with Chinese rom for a while. While typing here, I was loading the XDA-China, but very slow.
I will try to advice if I can when I manage to get some info there.
just download the official EU Leo update and update ur phone with it..should get back to the original.
where do I get the Offical EU update?
just go to this website
http://service.htceurope.com/htcdistributor/Default.aspx
use your own SN/IMEI and check your HD2's regional country
and download the appropriate official ROM. flash directly.
Thnaks for the reply. Tried that. When I query my S/N it says, Generic English ROM. EU. I tried the English WWE. Doesn't work. Gives invalid vendor ID at 1% :-(
I got the same problem.
You need to flash with WWE East Europe, Original ROM.
I found that after trying all available WWE ROMs (google it)
Finally I tried WWE East Europe and I did not encounter "ERROR Vender ID", so the flashing went OK
You can find the official WWE ROMs at:

There is no HardSPL available. For those Chinese ROM, they just did put some language patches to make it run. WM 6.5 support multiple language in its kernel(including Chinese). Just the way how to turn it on.

You need to replace the SDDL of the rom by the tg01_sddl+.exe from this FTP
thanks man,but by the way, what do you mean by replace the SDDL?do you mean I should change the flie name or....?
just delete the old "sddl.exe" (from rom folder)
and copy\paste the new "sddl+.exe" (from the ftp) in your storage card with the prg folder of the rom..

TG-01 Flash Unlock
Hello.
Could someone advise whether flashing the TG01WP-WM6.5-Generic-IT.zip as described in this thread (two pin short) gives a no-sim-lock phone?
Would flashing Orange TG01WP-WM6.5-Orange-UK.zip onto a Generic ROM then give an Orange branded phone with no sim-lock?
Thanks in advance - Looking to save a few Pounds and get up and running quickly!

I doubt it. Mine was an orangeRO locked, flashed on italian ROM with sddl+ and still orange locked.
Not able to install the English rom
I tried installing the English version downloaded from the Toshiba website.. it says the variant is in valid... can some body help me.
Did you paste the due files at the SD Card root, or inside a subfolder? Trouble could come from that...
The files are on the root of the SD Card... It says SD download failed...
I suppose you used sddl+ as indicated...
By this way, "SD dowloading failed variant is invalid"; was not this the error message when french user tried to get an UK Rom, for instance, on Toshiba Website, and Orange did not want their customers play "rom travel" game? I am not sure I remember well about this; did you have to give your IMEI at some point?
Yes i Used My IMEI number to download the toshiba website to download the english rom
Guys if you have any TG01 buyed in EU you can pud any TG01 ROM Spaish,English,Italian etc... But if it's a Japanese or Asian TG01 don't play with it.
To change rom just pud in the SD /prg/ file and SDDL+ ne one from stepw and run it. If not the same system but we don use SDDL we use a short pin. You can find everyting on forum.
So, trying to test my understanding: (with bits of informations here and there, on this forum and others, I'm getting rather confused)
There would be different "kinds" of Tsunagis, depending wether they were sold in EU or Asia. (hardware? Toshiba programming level?)
Among european TG, due to commercial treaties with Orange, some (French, English, Helvetian) TG would be Orange branded, and sold Orange locked, while Italian TG would be unbranded?
So, if you have an Orange branded TG, still Orange locked or unlocked, you cannot just change to any European WM6.5 Rom just dowloading it from Toshiba website, where you have to "tell" your country giving your IMEI. (you would stumble on that "invalid variant" error message)
Instead, must use the stepw way, refered to in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629586, (or http://www.adryan.evonet.ro/pocket pc/Toshiba TG01/ROM-uri/), or the "short pin" confused: whatever that might be, my poor english don't allow me to understand much about it)
But this would be "dangerous" for an Asian TG, though, unless I missed the information, eekthecat did not say for how long he had been using his phone before he tried, and if he knew for sure his TG was a well working one and not a disastrous bugger (at least some french tsunagists had many problems with theirs, and gave up for another device after some exchanges that did not improve the situation, the fourth proving sometimes worse than the third!)
Wish things will be easier with cooked ROM...
meerau if interested in changing ROM, PM me and I'll help you.Je peux t'aider.
Hi guys I'm new here..just registered after spending most of last night reading ROM developments for the TG01 for the last 1 year or so. I gotta admit that instead of wanting to move away from TG01 (given all the difficulties and misadventures with the set..from other posters) I feel even more compelled to keep the one I recently purchased..crazy right!?!
Anyways I have some info and some questions..will start with the question:
1. I just purchased a TG01 (unbranded) from Italy. The set is running WM6.1 and is brand new..still in the box. I would like to change the ROM to English and the only reason for that is that I prefer english despite understanding both languages...other than that I have no desire to go further and install UI variations of other phones (HTC, etc) as I really see no point in creating problems for myself..what I gather from most posts is that alot of users apply mod's which temporarily seem fine and balanced BUT eventually lead to some sort of problem which is then modded thus solving the initial problem but creating a new one..so on and so forth until phone in many cases dies. (Comment: I am confused why many users flash their ROMS to English when they can't even speak or read English at a basic level?!? Once again I dont see the point..someone enlighten me ...ooops back to the question...So..is there any suggestion or help I can recieve in changing the ROM from Italian to English? Should I do this after the 6.5 upgrade in Italian or? Suggestions please.
2. Toshiba Asia recently started realeasing TG01 to certain Asian countries and one that may be of interest for a generic English Language ROM is Malaysia. I recently picked-up a TG01 in a store in Kuala Lumpur and it was a locally certified and guaranteed set with no 'Telcom Carrier Branding'. It was unlocked and not an import phone from other TG01 markets..and the ROM was in ENGLISH!! This TG01 came preinstalled with WM6.5 (not 6.1) but I had no intention of buying it as I already have the new italian set and more importantly it costs more than 500 Euros vs. the Italian one I bought for a net 287 Euros.
Maybe this can be a new and more reliable lead on how to get a generic ENG ROM instead of playing doctor frankenstein with 'carrier branded' ROMS in English.
Looking forward to hearing your comments.
Ciao

Mirrors for SBFs

I've downloaded all Milestone 2 Service SBFs and mirrored them. Apparently quite some people are looking for them, so here they are.
I suggest you download them, while the links last
FYI: These were the only SBFs for the Milestone 2 that ever have been publicly available! So no, there are no Chinese or Asians SBFs and I don't know how to get them!

Chinese?
Does the "CH" in DE, AT, CH mean Chinese? So somehow one ROM supports Chinese plus European language? Othewise, is there a Chinese version? Sorry if this is a stupid question...
CH is Czech.
There is no European ROM that supports Chinese AFAIK. Furthermore there haven't been any Chinese/Asian SBFs publicly available, at least not via the official Motorola Repo.

Not sure what SBF stands for, but I've read "System Boot File"
The service doesn't replace the /data partition, non-service versions do. So simply said a Service SBF only replaces the system, without removing user data. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Yes. Make sure you use version 4.9
Thanks for the share
btw I have very little experience in android. so I better ask you guys to increase my understanding. As far as I know SBF is ultimate savior for bricked android phone. If that happen, you just have to use RSD lite to flash your phone with SBF. Is that right? get me straight if I was wrong.
But I still confused about several things
1. Do SBF is the same with factory reseted rom?
2. Do I have to use the right SBF version (UK, Brazil, DE or whatever) for my MS2 or we can change it to different version?
3. How can I know my SBF version?

Pretty much! As long as your MS can boot into recovery (hold camera and power up and then press the power button)
But I still confused about several things
1. Do SBF is the same with factory reseted rom? - Yes, but it also restores the phone to complete stock build (ie if youve rooted it, or removed and crapware) that will also be restored.
2. Do I have to use the right SBF version (UK, Brazil, DE or whatever) for my MS2 or we can change it to different version? - 4.9 is the latest. To get your phone to show up, make sure you have all the phone's drivers installed on your machine first.
3. How can I know my SBF version? - Generally goes by country/continent..
Regards
These SBF's will not erase the data partition! So all user date will be in tact after flashing it.

You need to find the one that suits your phone's model and original firmware best, and be mindful of downgradeability. I'd pick the one that corresponds to my phone's country of origin and/or region in order to get the proper radio files.
