One of my questions is an issue Im having. Whenever I plug my phone into my computer (Win7) the folders on storage dont update, e.i. no new pictures show, no backups, or anything Ive deleted from the phone doesnt show the changes on the computer. If i delete a file from the phone, it will still show as there on the computer if I plug it in later. I have tried reinstalling drivers, and formatting the sdcard in recovery. Has anyone else had this problem?
Also, a real quick brief noob question, with my 8gb after formatting I only get 4.6, is that what everyone else is getting? or do my apps take up he other gb of the 5.6?
This failing is because of the crappy method of mounting that is used. MTP
I often get the same thing happen when attempting to backup sdcard contents. There is nothing worse than backing up, wiping then realising that your backup didn't actually backup the whole contents
I just use adb to backup now but for your case the easiest way to get mtp to update the contents is to just reboot the phone then plug it back in and it should be updated properly

How did you format your phone? If you used a custom recovery that's because it doesn't delete your SD Card contents, so all of your photos and stuff.

What he is describing is a bug with mtp. Formatting his sdcard is just one of the things he has done to try and resolve the issue.
I can describe a scenario of the exact issue the op is having.
You take a photo
Plug to pc and copy that photo
Unplug phone
Decide you don't like that photo so delete it on the phone
Take a replacement photo
Plug to pc again
Goto dcim directory and it still shows the filename of the original photo
Your new photo is not there
You cannot do anything to the photo that it's listed in the directory because it doesn't exist
You can't copy your new photo because it's not in the list to copy
The New photo is definitely there because you can access it on the phone, just not via mtp
Reboot your phone
Plug back to pc
Goto dcim folder and the old photo is gone and there is only your new photo (as it should be)
I get this issue very often and rebooting the phone is the only thing that brings mtp back into line

You should download 'Trickster Mod Kernel Settings' and use the 'Media Scanner' function. That also does the trick.

Hey guys,
when I connect my nexus 4 with usb to my pc there are no problem
I can browse my internal storage but when I change a folder name it won't work, my pc goes crazy .
I have to unplug my device and plug it back in in order to connect it again.
Copy and moving of data works flawless , only changing the folder names does not work.
Does anyone have an idea?

i used to have MTP bugs similar to this on my one X
usually a restart of the phone solved them
I tried your advice but still it does not work.
What I noticed is that when I create a folder on my phone and then plug it via usb to my pc the folder is vanished. My pc does not recognize my created folder. I have to restart my phone in order to see the folder on my pc.
Same problem here.
i'm using win8, pac man rom.

This might be related to the refreshing mechanism. The folder you created does not vanish, just have not been updated. Maybe an SD card refresh app, like Rescan SD card, would work.
This is typical with MTP, however I haven't had these issues using a Nexus device with Windows 8. If all else fails, you're better off using an Android file manager to rename the folders.

recoveriung files from SD is way too easy, recovering from internal memory mpt is hell, only for real men
there is this guide but it is impossible to understand it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705
Read the description, SD card OR Internal storage.
MTP is how you connect the phone to the computer, the restoration is done on your phone so MTP shouldn't be in the way,

Hi, I've made two different nandroid backups using twrp in the last couple weeks and both times when I try to transfer the backup to my laptop through data cable it only transfers like 10 megs of the data and does nothing else, even though the file has almost 3 gigs in it. If I open the backup folder itself and select every item in there and try to transfer that way, same thing, most of the items just don't copy over, don't get an error or anything.
Furthermore, if I use a file explorer and try to transfer the backup folder to my external SD card, I get an error message (cant remember what it said and I already deleted the backup as it was taking up too much space).
Any ideas about what's going on? I will try to do another backup soon but it's pointless if I can't move it anywhere, since I don't want it taking up space on my phone. Thanks guys!

What type sdcard? 32g, 64g?
Hi, just a 16 gig. I didn't think it was the SD card though because even when the backup is stored on the phone itself, it still won't transfer to the computer (via a usb cable)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
on the pc transfer can you copy smaller files of anything to pc from phone
try different cable or pc
try a different recovery and see if things copy ok--maybe the backups are bad
not sure on internal transfers--try the stock file mgr "My Files" and try with smaller files also
i have a 64gb samsung pro exfat--works perfect
Hello, I really have no clue and hope you can help me. I even don't know how to search the problem.
Yesterday I wanted to transfer my DCIM folder with lots of photos and videos to my PC using STRG-X. I already had one DCIM folder there, so I chosen "integrate datas in this folder".
I left my PC and when I came back, I couldn't find even one picture on my PC neither on my phone.
Still, the phone says 24,17 of 24,64 GB on internal memory occupied.
Where could the files have gone? And more important, is there a way to dig, where the occupied space is and to retrieve these important files?
I am happy about any help! Thanks!
First question I have is, we're you transferring the DC I'M folder from the phone's micro SD?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
Hello,
first I transferred the DCIM folder of the external micro sd which only contained 6 photos. Then the folder which got lost is the DCIM folder on internal storage.
Addon: when i open the explorer now in win 10, the windows applications crash and reload after 2 seconds. it used to open a "shortly used" tab; luckily I got a direct link on the desktop to a specific folder from where i can navigate.
It seems win 10 messed up something...

Ah ha! You're using Windows 10. I read on another forum here that another user was having issues with accessing their Note 4 via USB (MTP) while using Windows 10. I can't remember how they got around things though.

Hello,
There is a possibility that internal memory card has some kind of corruption in boot record or file system itself, which is usually fat32 file system on those media devices. It is difficult to diagnose it without physically looking at it. Our company has dealt with such data loss situations before and can attempt to recover lost images. Do you know if this phone internal memory or is it some kind of micro sd card or sd card inside of the phone?

I have the Verizon variant and I'm experiencing an issue where only some of the images on my SD card are showing up in the gallery. I took the card straight from my V10. I have tried the following to no avail:
- Backed up files to PC
- Reformatted the card from the phone
- Replaced files
What's also weird is that if I take a pic with the camera it puts the image in the camera folder on the SD card with existing images but only the new one shows up.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I had an issue like that when I went from a Note 3 to 4. I looked in the card and found saved thumbnail image files and temp files. Once I removed all of those (while the card was in the PC) and then put the card back in the phone, it worked fine.
check the card to see if there no ".foldername" or ".nomedia" file in those directory
Thanks I tried both suggestions and they didn't work. I also wanted to mention that when I go into the stock file manager and attempt to open one of the images I get the flowing message:
Scanning media files..... Try again when scanning is completed

I had a similar issue, this is how I fixed it
Use Root Explorer or ES File Manager (Root explorer is my preference because it lets you have two directories side by side)
Navigate to the SD card, locate the folder(s) with the pics. Copy(not cut) all the folders and then paste them into your internal memory (in Root explorer I went to my downloads folder, created a new folder and stuck everything in there).
Then once everything is copied, format your SD card again. Then move everything back.
Once I did that, Gallery was able to see all my files.
Delete or do not copy the Android, data, Lost.Dir folders ... could be a permission issue

Just make sure any app you have set to save data to the SD card is backed up somewhere else or you will lose said data

The only drawback to copying back and forth is that it changes the "modified" date on the files and then makes them appear as new photos

Yeah that was the only drawback to doing that. I already have everything backed up to Google photos so all I did was not turn the back up on those folders on again and any new photos I've been creating new events/folders for them.
I just had this same problem. V20 didn't see my Mp3s or my pictures.
I just finished setting up my 200 gb card that came with my v10 promo last year but I had been using it in my tablet.
I went to the file manager and deleted lost.dir and everything is showing now! That's the only one I deleted and it was empty anyway. (unless there was something hidden in there)
I just spent 2 days setting this up and clearing stuff from my v10. I did my best not to panic when I finally inserted the sd and nothing changed!
Glad I had seen this thread!

I have tried all of the solutions suggested. I have an LG v20. I have at 512GB SD card (phone supposedly supports up to 2GB) My file manager and most any photo gallery app will not see the pictures on the sd card. I have backed up, format and re copied. No change. I can see them in Google photos but I'm not even sure that it's looking on my phone rather than backed up photos in the cloud. This is frustrating.
Ok. I think I figured it out. My pic folder was a sub folder on my SD card. Beneath the pic folder were more sub folders to separate my photos. I moved the pic folder to the root of my SD card and the problem went away. I think there might be a limit to the number of sub folder depth for scanning. SD\MyDoc\PIC\(segregated folders) would not work. The only weird part is that it did find the videos in the segregated folders but no images. Strange. Regardless, everything shows up in attaching, file manager and gallery.
I just created a folder in the dcim folder called oldPics then moved all to that folder. Bam! Shows up in there own folder in gallery.
sd card issues..please help
having issues with sd card showing mp3 or pictures from my sd card. in the file explorer the files are there but in gallery or music player they are not. I have deleted the Android, data, Lost.Dir folders with no changes. Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?
thanks 949BFN I have tried your suggestions. still having the same issue. the files work fine from file explorer but not in their respective apps. I have downloaded about 10 apps between the gallery and sd card and none of them recognize the sd card. any other suggestions?
I had the same issue. Pictures on the SD Card (which came from a S7 Edge) were not recognised by the native Gallery app. (Quickpic did not have an issue displaying the pictures). I could however not get any app to recognise music (mp3's and playlists) on the same SD card.
After trying the suggestions in this thread, I realised that all one has to do, is to rename the folder to something else (I e.g. changed my "Music" folder to "Musicd". I forced closed all Music apps, reopened the apps and all the mp3's and playlists were immediately recognised. (Not sure if this step was actually necessary). I forced close the app again, changed the "Musicd" folder back to "Music" and all is well. All Music apps (including Google Play Music) no recognise the music and playlists on the SD Card)
I did the same with my "Pictures" folder and subsequently, the Gallery app picked up the folders. However, I now have an issue with the Gallery app crashing about 10 seconds after opening it I've tried all the usual stuff (clearing phone and the app cache); rebooting etc. with no luck so far.
