What? Provisioning successful - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi, something really strange happened to my phone. I'm running the latest GPe ROM, and I haven't done any modifications to it in over a month. Yesterday, my phone crashed and rebooted. When it booted up, I lost all of my app data. The apps were in the state they'd be in if they were first installed, except completely unstable. Hardly anything was responding, so I cleared catch/dalvik and reinstalled the ROM/kernel. Same crap when it came back on. It was also stuck in a bootloop from the lockscreen. That fixed itself after 5 reboots. A few minutes later I received an Android text that said "Provisioning successful". It sounds like my phone was wiped remotely? I've never seen data just get randomly erased like that. I had to format /system and start fresh. Any ideas of what happened?
Full text:
//ANDROID: Provisioning successful CFGv320c.0=07cM3VY2mhI//CM
Running the latest AGAT kernel: never had a problem with it.

I wasnt on GPE ROM , but on Blu Kuban I think. Anyways when I flashed a new kernel and wiped just dalvik plus cache. I had the same.e thing happen. I lost all app data. Had to resign into fb instagram YouTube gmail snapchat etc. All my calls and texts were still there. Idk why my phone did that.

Yeah, my texts and calls were still there as well. I actually did flash KT a few days ago. Put AGAT back after 12 hours (got too many reboots).

I get that android provisioning also, started a week ago. It has something to do with visual voicemail and I haven't Ben able to fix it. There were several old fixes when I googled it but none that work. Haven't had a chance to call Sprint yet.

Are you just getting the text, or is your phone resetting?

Just getting the texts, they happen randomly and when I get a voice mail.

Its weird, I haven't had this problem on any other android phone, its happened twice in the last 24 hours. I'm completely stock. Unrooted

I can count on one hand the number of phone calls I've been on since I got the thing, but I haven't had it shut down on me any of those times.
I've had it happen every time when rooted and had apps. I went back to no apps and still had it happen. I went back to stock 2.3.1 via the nandroid around here and locked it back up, still doing it.
The only thing I didn't test was 2.3 vs 2.3.1 but I do believe it started happening to me, at least, when going to 2.3.1, now that I think about it.
I have this problem but rarely. It will reboot the phone show the nexus startup screen without the backlit LED. Is that whats happening to you?

Same here, and I have used every T-Mobile Android phone to date, never seen anything like this before! This is the only phone I haven't rooted yet, not sure what the issue is...
It only happened once so I didn't think anything of it.
I didn't know it was a common problem.
Btw I will be exchanging my phone cuz this one has done really annoying bugs, like freezing in between homescreen slides and apps constantly fc during use

ya i havent made very many calls, but thats why it kind of concerns me. i have probablly made 10 calls and i think its rebooted 3-4 times while on the call or at the end of the call. i wonder if its a bug with the phone app?
did you root the phone or something ? if its still on stock firmware like how you bought it, then try to restore factory sittings, if its still doing that you then you have a I/O chip problem. and you will need to replace your phone.
thats what the HTC care told me when my HD2 used to have this issue

I would believe it was hardware if it happened randomly, but for phone calls only, that sounds like software.

Happened to me just now. Stock 2.3.1 with an international call.
I'm not rooted, I just cleared data for the dialer app and cleared cache on the whole system, we'll see if that does anything. Good thing I rarely use my phone for making calls or I'd be pissed

Multiple copies of sms being sent

So my wife has been having these issues with her phone lately. When she sends an sms it will duplicate it sometimes up to 30 messages will be sent when only 1 was intended to be sent. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the cause? She is using the stock messaging app with stock rooted rom. I believe that super user access is disabled on it too.

Try doing a factory reset and see if that helps

Back up with Google!
Make sure your accout and contacts are backed up to Google before you reset.
So nobody has any idea or experience with the issue?

He probably doesn't want to do a factory reset on his wife's phone. I've done it before and you get *****ed at for days because they can never get it just like they had it before.
You might try backing up her messages and clearing all data on the sms app. See if it fixes it. If it does, restore the old messages and continue to test.
Edit: If that doesn't work, boot into recovery and clear dalvik cache and cache, then re-flash your ROM. That should fix it.
I'm guessing she's running the ROM you released in the dev section way back or a variant of it?
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.

That's exactly it. Full wipe is pretty much the last possibility before buying her a new phone haha. I'm have to wipe caches and wipe data on the sms app. She hates when anything is changed and I hear about it for a couple of days. She is running the debloated one that I did awhile back.

Did you try reflashing? Nothing major should change.

Not quite yet, the seems sporadic so she's not that worried about it I guess. I read somewhere that it could also be a bad signal issue also.

[Q] Anyone else having these issues?

This just started happening the other day. Randomly during the day it will not allow me to adjust the volume ( ie from vibrate to loud). The status bar moves when i move them but it doesn't actually do anything. Also when this starts happening, voice input no longer works. I cant do voice text voice searches etc etc.
I have to shut it down and restart it, then everything will work again. But it only lasts for a few hours and then i have to do it again.
I am stock and not rooted.
Thoughts?
It doesn't happen to me on my modded and tweaked Slim Bean Beta2. I would recommend doing a factory reset and see if that fixes your problem.

Maybe you have apps installed that control or manage audio

Could i use this backup utility found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36499906
factory reset my phone and then install that backup or would that defeat the purpose of resetting it.
I am not a pro at this obviously, i just do not want to lose all my apps and settings i have. Or would they just reinstall once i linked the phone back to my google account?

I did have one, but i uninstalled it and still having the same issues.
I'm having the same issue, stock ROM rooted with franco kernel.
Not only that, but the volume gets very low almost inaudible and I end up having to reboot the phone.
I don't have any audio apps installed, noticed this while watching YouTube.
Thus far have not found a solution

now it is not happening anymore and hasn't happened since Saturday.
Weird.
Will repost later if it starts acting up again.

My nexus 7 just formated it self...?

I've been having random reboots like others have, but this time it set my tablet to factory settings and erased all saved data. I just came back from a vacation and I lost all my pictures and videos. Going to try to get a new tablet tomorrow.

Wow dang was it rooted? Hopefully this is just a software issue but it shouldn't be doing this on stock
I also experienced that when I first was setting up my tablet. I logged into all my apps instagram etc. It rebooted and everything was logged out. It was fine for 3 days and I just had a reboot but my data is still there this time

Another lollipop glitch

Phone app is constantly freezing during and after calls. Cant hangup, use speaker etc. Very annoying. Cleared cache partition to no avail. Really considering going back to kitkat but would rather avoid the hassle. Im on a stock unrooted tmo handset. Any fixes? Havent rooted since S4 because it was becoming a hassle.
