Didnt change anything..all of a sudden cant connect to the 3g network..It wont show the icon ( 3g) Just has The G icon and now turned to E..
I just did a master reset ( the problem was happening before, hence the reset) to hopefully fix the issue.. now it just gives "E" instead of the usual 3g and I cannot make video calls or connect to the HSDPA.. I heard there was network issues today...I am in Brampton Ontario.. I have other family members with the Samsung A706 and 3g access is perfect as usual.. I also had the Roger's guy to reset my account and took out the battery etc.
Strange..any thoughts or advice..solutions??
Same problem to me

Hi everyone.
Since upgrading to 1.66, I have noticed something rather annoying and hope someone can provide a solution to fixing it.
When I was on 1.48, the H icon at the top of the screen would always be there. I was effectively connected to the internet all the time, and was able to leave MSN messenger etc open and I'd always be online.
When I upgraded to 1.66, the icon at the top of the screen is always 3G. It only changes to H when I'm actually using the internet. If I open the browser and check out a website, the 3G changes to H and the website begins to load. It changes back to 3G when any internet connectivity is idle.
I can only access the internet when H is displayed, but I want it connected permanently like it was on 1.48.
It's like the phone is disconnecting from the internet when I'm not using the browser. It's not very useful when I need to keep MSN messenger open all day.
Thanks.
It's not disconnected when it says 3G. It simply switches to the slower mode when nothing is being transferred to save resources. As soon as something actually needs to be transferred it goes to H again to get the fastest available speed.

Ah, okay. I can't seem to visit any websites when 3G is displayed though. Perhaps that could be to do with my operator settings or something?
i have had the same problem since installing the sms patches.... i have since hard reset to remove the patch... and testing it now... it is very anoying because it keeps my msn disconnected...
I'm using Dutty's 1.5 (it's a great ROM!) with a 2.07 radio and I've got the same problem..
When it says 3G, nothing seems to come through.. when it changes to H, the webpage starts loading...
Does anyone have a fix to make it not switch back and forth between H and 3G? It gets frustrating because it often takes 1 or 2 seconds to switch between the modes....

Let us know how to you get on because I need this fixed.
My MSN stays connected fine in 3G. Push email works perfect too.
The icons only show the available type of signal.
They don't mean you are connected.
When you do connect by opening an app that uses the appropriate signal then the icon changes to show the signal that you are connected with.
If H is not available in a particular area then it will stay on 3G and if that's not available then G with show.
Hey guys. I'm on my 4th HD2 handset now since upgrading my vodafone contract one month ago. First two handsets had similar probs as allot of you have had, i.e sms not working, alarm not working etc etc. I upgraded to the 1.66 rom when i got my 3rd handset from phones4u. I then started getting the same issues as you just described- internet only profficiently working when H coverage is active. When it goes below that then nothing happens at all. I returned the handset today and got a new one. This one already had the 1.66 Rom update installed and sure enough, had the same internet issues. I started fiddling with settings and changed the band setting from 'auto' to 'WCDMA'. ( just trial and error, so senior members please chime in if i have given bad advise!) This seems to keep the network coverage constantly in H and since changing it several hours ago i have not had any issues.
Start> Settings>Wireless controls>Phone>Band> Change Auto to WCDMA
Give it a go!

Wouldnt that make the phone stick to the 3G/HSDPA/WCDMA band only and cause the phone to have no reception around certain areas that still operate on 2G GSM?
Exact.
I rather tend to do the opposite for that reason if I have trouble (sometimes you're in areas where 3G reception is low and it keeps switching between 3G and EDGE all the time), I'll force EDGE only. It's slower, but at least the connection is constant.
When at work mine fights bewteen 3g and h and both are like 1 bar signals, i'd rather disable both when at work as G is full signal.
Is there a way?
Hi there,
I've got a really big problem with my TD2, since i tried a tweak to increase the lifetime of the battery 3g completely broke. I found the tweak somewhere here in the Forum, but I wasnt able to find it again. I was using the XDAndroid ROM and tried to tweak the connection using the service menu (*#*#4636#*#* in android. setting the phone to "GSM only" should still allow 3g with less battery drain in general) but since that whenever my phone is connected via 3g i just don't have internet. It still connects to the network and also shows the 3g or "H" icon but i cant reach any server.
This happens in WiMo and in Android!
As soon I set up the phone only to use GSM everything just works fine. Already tried every possible setting within the android tool but it jumps back to "Unknown" everytime.
I also tried flashing the radio with the 4.49.25.91 ROM from this thread. That didn't help either :/
My WiMo i flashed to the current energy ROM, too.
I really don't know what to try anmore, if someone have got an idea please tell me
Flash it back to your stock ROM and see if that fixes the issue.
Nope :/
Just more slow and ugly than the energy rom ^^ 3g still won't work.. beside that even when booting to android it wont work, so i dont think it's rom related...
It has to be something about the radio and/or band settings that android messed up and cant be restored with the tools i have.... Maybe someone knows a tool that allows much radio tweaking?
Edit:
Nice, flashed back to energy rom and set up the network type and band again (settings -> personal -> phone) and now it's working again!
Even it wasn't a direct solution, flashing a bit around seem'd to be helpful
Hi,
bad news... 3g is working now, but it's very unstable and slow!
I made some speed tests via internet sharing:
GSM Mode -> Edge ("E" Icon)
Everything is stable and speeds are okay for edge (up to 18kb/s download, that is max. for GMSK?)
3G Mode -> UMTS ("3G" Icon)
Connection is VERY laggy and unstable, sometimes it completely loses connection. Only got a single Test through that messured a download rate of 0.03Mb/s that is even below default GSM and ping time of over 500ms. (Sadly i didn't copy the results)
3G Mode -> HSDPA ("H" Icon)
As long it keeps using HSDPA everything seems stable and fast, i'll run a speed test when i'm back from work (i only have 3g at the town i work) and post the results here when i'm done. Didnt have that much time to test this yet.
Hey everyone. I've been having issues with my data connection and I'm trying to figure out what is causing it. I am using CM 6.1 RC2 and I have the updated radio from the vodafone rom.
For example, when I enter the market, about 50% of the time I get a network error after resuming from sleep and have to click retry once or twice before I can do anything. The data connection is just not reliable anymore (yet before this issue it always was).
I'm just wondering if there is an issue with RC2 of CM or if it is the radio update causing this. Can anyone comment?
I'm not sure this would be related, but after flashing 6.1.0 on my Dream I find it stuck in EDGE occasionally, usually when in the car or after, and in places where I get solid HSPA before 6.1.0. So far, I have to reboot to get HSPA (or 3G) back. There are some notes on updated radio and a kernel to address some radio problems, is anyone else seeing this?
Hi,
I have similar problem. My legend is not with the latest radio or kernel.
The specs are:
CyanogenMod Legend 6.1
Radio: 7.05.35.26
Kernel: 2.6.29.6
The problem that I see is: During the night when the phone is not used it looses the data connection. When I turn it on in the morning there are no mobile network indicators. I have to reset the network ( by airplane mode or reboot) ot get back my data connection.
During the day there are no problems.
I suspect that this happens because of the weak 3G signal in my area. However I use auto setting. ( 2G and 3G)
When I was with stock ROM I haven't such issues with dead data connection during long sleep.
EDIT: I have just upgraded the radio to 7.08.35.21. I will check how it works tonight.
BR
I'm having similar trouble with CM 6.1 released just a few days ago...
I've posted this to Cyanogen Stable Forum for Legend:
h t t p ://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11966-cyanogen-61-htc-legend-problems-with-3g-connection/
I think I've similar problem as you...
I have updated the radio to 7.08.35.21.
This morning when I woke up I saw no data connection again The signal strength indicator was full with bars!
Anyone has any clue?
I've been having some data issues too, I've had to go to and from Flight Mode in order to get any form of connection (data OR telephone) back, and I occasionally get stuck on GPRS. Toggling "use only 2G networks", waiting for the data to come back and then toggling it off again gets EDGE or H back, but it's pretty flaky compared to RC1 and the older radio.
I think i have the same or similar problem.
It looks like I have a data connection (3g is showing and signal strength is almost full). But when i try to connect to facebook, browser or somthing else what needs a connection it cant connect.
I have a taskkiller running when i kill all the task 90% of the time i will get a connection.
I have the same programs on my phone when i used 2.1 and with 2.1 I never had this problem.
Strangely enough it seems like mine is working much better lately. Maybe there was something up with Bell. I haven't gotten the connection error in days.
After update to radio 7.13.35.05 I haven't had this sissue again.
I will continue to watch he behavior.
Hi everyone,
I have an omnia 7 on contract with Optus here in Australia. I have had it for a few days now and I've found the data connection to be very patchy, even though I have full reception where I live.
I have noticed the connection icon switching between 3G and 3G+ pretty much constantly when I'm using it.
This is basically what is happening as I try it at the moment:
- Icon says 3G.
- Tried to load the Optus website and the icon changed to 3G+ and the progress bar is just hanging there, wont go any further.
- Icon has changed back to 3G, still hanging.
- Try to load again, now it has changed to 3G+ and the site loaded.
- Icon has changed back to 3G.
- Clicked a link on the website and the icon changed to 3G+, page loaded fine.
- Icon changed back to 3G.
- Tried to load the facebook app, "Unable to connect to Facebook. Please try again later.
- Trying to load optuszoo.com.au again, icon says 3G.. just hanging there again.
- Icon has changed to 3G+, still hanging.
- Icon has changed to 3G, still hanging.
Could this be a fault with my phone? I'm in an area of strong reception, it shouldn't have a problem getting a steady 3G+ connection (I used to have a HTC Diamond which always had a strong HSDPA signal). I can only guess that every time it switches from 3G to 3G+ it loses the connection, which stops things from loading & syncing. Is there anything I can try here before I take it back to the store? I do not have the new firmware, and don't particularly want to try messing with it if I have to return it.
Every Omnia 7 has this problem (as far as I'm aware). It's a connectivity bug with Windows Phone, hopefully it will get sorted in the coming update.

I've got the same phone and on the same carrier and I can't say I have experienced these problems. I've had my phone since october last year and its been working flawlessly when there's a good signal.
When it switches between 3G and 3G+(H), it usually just means the download speed is varying between those 2 standards (i think 3G = about 3Mbits/s, and 3G+/H is about 7Mbits/s).
Only thing I can suggest is turn off your phone, make sure your sim is inserted properly as well as battery, and turn it back on.
If you were on a different carrier with your old HTC, it might be Optus' coverage.

I was on Optus previously, I dropped into the optus store yesterday and they had me on the phone with support. We tried my sim in a different phone and determined it's my handset that is the problem. As the poster above you mentioned, it's probably a firmware issue... but I'm not going to risk waiting for the new firmware to come out because I only have another week to be able to get a replacement.
Had such issues but after I changed my Provider my 3G+ signal ist stable.
Hour handset is being 'elevated' to HSDPA when your using your connection.
When its idle, it will drop back to 'standard'
My handset does this, but i am not getting the data issues your experiencing.
In addition, both my old HTC handsets used to do this, tho the icon actually showed [H] for HSDPA (Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5)
Hard reset your Omnia And/Or send it off for repair/replace
(I am with Optus too)
I'm having the same problem.
I've got a Samsung Galaxy s on Optus.
Constantly changes from 3G to HSDPA, looses connection every time, very hard to use apps that use the Internet.
Seem's to be an optus problem as this is happening with different types of handsets.
Maybe an option where you can select 3G or HSDPA only is needed, they have a GPRS or 3G only option so i don't see why they cant have this aswell.

Yep I ended up taking it back and getting a replacement, but the replacement has the same problem... so it's either software related or network related.
I can confirm this issue too.
It's REALLY annoying.
Is there any temporary fix? I hate this device for the most part, but I love WP7.
I have less problems when I have the phone's sync set to hourly, then it happens maybe once a month that I can't connect with data.
When I had de sync set to manual I almost daily had to reset the phone to get the data connection back, now its on hourly sync again and no problems in the past week..

I have the exact same issue with my HTC Mozart. The signal constantly keeps changing between 3G and HSDPA when I'm in an area that has stable strong reception.
This causes the same DNS issues as stated in IE in which websites fail to load until you refresh them a number of times.
To me it appears that its an issue with IE and the way WP7 calculates and handles the signal. Can anyone confirm if Microsoft have confirmed that there are issues with IE and the signal and when this will be fixed?
I don't know if in my case it's related to the same problem, but on my operator's network it's mostly E and 3G.
After a few times of checking my email, getting the People Hub updated or surfing once in a while, I don't get a connection anymore, except when connecting via wifi.
This is a very annoying problem and the only way to get it back is turning the device off and on daily basis, sometimes even a few times a day D:
I have the same issue ever since I updated the firmware. At first I thought that it is broken internally but it seems to be a universal problem.
Firmware: 2424.11.2.3
Radio: 2424.11.2.2
bootloader:5.2.1.4
Does anybody want to escalate this issue to MS and Samsung? (I understand that several countries are reporting this)
Same problem - HTC One X on Optus.
My phone seems to spend most of its time deciding whether to use 3G or HSDPA, during which time my webpage downloads stop, I can't connect to facebook ("Connection lost - tap to retry"), I can't search Google, etc. etc.
I wouldn't mind if it got on with the job in the meantime, but while it's flicking backwards & forwards between networks I can't seem to get any data down (or up).
Really, really, really annoying. I didn't notice it on Telstra, but I had a different phone (HTC Desire). From the looks of this thread though it's network-related, not phone-related.
Does anybody have problem while calling someone, and when line establishes, there is only silence and dropped call. I had that problem, and I solved it by forcing phone to use only 3G. To do this, go to Diagnosis, and enter *#2263#, then if you want only 3G enter ''WCDMA Band Preference'' - ''WDCMA All'', or for EDGE ''GSM Band Preference'' - ''GSM All''. Automatic speaks for itself. I use 3G all the time, and no more dropped calls. Maybe this could help with 3G -> 3G+ shifting. Only downside is that when there is no 3G signal, you wont get signal at all.
