[Q] Take out modifications for OTA - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have had the OTA update for the new 4.3 now and i havent installed it yet since i have a custom bootanim.(done through rom toolbox pro), custom lockring, glowdots and softkeys(all done through zipthemer and softkeyz app). is it possible to just "undo" the zipthemer ones and just install the stock bootanim through rom toolbox again, so i can install the OTA update? if so, can anybody link me to the original n4 bootanimation please

[Q] Previous steps to ICS update?

What do we have to do before flashing official ICS?
In my case, I am with rooted 3.2.1.. can I update without risk? or I have to downgrade and install official (non-rooted) 3.2.1?
Also, I have deleted some stock apps, is there gonna be any problem with that?
Thanks.
Same question here , I have read in other post that if I have CWM installed there could be some problems with the update.
I'm running a rooted stock rom 3.2.1 too, So can anyone of you upload an ICS rooted stock rom to install it by CWM?
Thanks in advance!

I'm also a little confused. I just installed stock unrooted rom from acer recovery and tried to do the update but it failed. Any pointers?

Temporary Unroot Using SuperSU to Perform OTA Updates?

Hi Everyone,
I know there is already a thread about using Voodo OTA Rootkeeper which I believe allows you to temporarily unroot the Nexus 7 in order to apply the 4.1.1 update, but I'm wondering if SuperSU can be used to do the same? Is the process as simple as disabling SuperSU in settings, then applying the system update and then re-enabling SuperSU once the update has been installed? I am currently unrooted and have already installed the 4.1.1 update, but I am intending to root my device soon and am wondering if this process could be used for future updates?
Thanks
Here is a link to the Voodoo OTA guide:

I'd like to know the as well.

IIRC, ota updates won't flash without the stock recovery.

just forget about official ota, deb's cook em to be flashable in custom recoveries, plus paulobrein will update his rom when new updates drop!

do you have to change the recovery when unlocking/rooting if i'm not bothered about installing other roms, but want the ability to run root programs?

No, you don't have to change/flash a different recovery. When using the Nexus Toolkit (which I used this afternoon with great success!), you have the option to keep the stock recovery or flash clockworkmod (CWM). CWM is great if you're flashing custom roms, themes etc. as it's much more flexible (I believe), but if you're main goal is to be able to use root apps, then the stock recovery will be fine

[Q] Will I receive OTA updates if I install a theme on the stock ROM?

I just bought a i9505 and I will probably install the Domination theme over the stock ROM. If I do so, will I still be able to receive OTA updates?
Thanks!

to install a theme u need a root and the theme should be odex supported
And once u root no more updates thru OTA device status will become Custom and u then have to Install firmware using ODIN
Hope this helps
Use Q&A thread link on ma sign rather creating a new thread u will get response faster

Not true - you need a custom recovery to install a theme (some recoveries auto root though)

You could do the same with the Nexus. Download a stock rooted 4.3 ROM, and flash it. Use titanium backup to restore your stuff.
The problem is that i can't find a stock rooted rom.
Or this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887
If so, deodexed or odexed?
Thanks.

Deodexed is easier to theme and mod.

Ota and custom kernel and recovery

Hey all! I've been out of the game for a while so to say and was wondering if there is still no way to root stock ROM, use a custom kernel and still have its compability?
Or a way to apply the Ota somehow manually with above said changes?
Cheers

You must return the unit to complete stock before applying any over the air update. That includes removing root or any custom kernels
