Battery life concern - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Im wondering if my battery life is normal, im pretty sure I remember before doing yhe mf9 update I had better than this. If it could be better, what would you suggest I do to make it better? Look at the attached pics
Also I was playing a game for a while but I'd still think it should last longer.

I've read threads about worse battery life on MF9, but that is certainly not the case for me. I've been on MF9 3-4 days now, and am for sure not seeing worse battery life. Perhaps a little better, but it's hard to tell. For sure not worse.
Stock rom, rooted, some bloatware disabled. Same setup I had on MDL.

Ahh. But another thing, it takes FOREVER to charge. It has probably been plugged in for 20-30 minutes and it is at 2 percent. I used it to call someone a couple times. But I dont understand why it wouldn't charge.

Are you using the charger that came with the phone? Its a 2amp charger while almost every other phone charger is a one amp.

Actually this is what's weird.. when I use the 2 amp charger it charges slowly. But when I use a 0.7 amp charger it charges faster than the 2 amp. Could it maybe be the usb cord? I have a different one than the original because the one it came with, the plug broke

Strange problem I recently developed on my vibrant. Suggestions?

Ok so these last couple of days I've been having the strangest problem with my vibrant. The battery litterally sucks it self on the charger. For example, today at 3 in the morning I woke up to find my phone charging at 71% I was like ok good. Woke up at 7 and the phone was completly dead! It looses power on the charger. At first i thought it was the battery so i switched it. And whattya know. Still the same problem. Then i thought it was the usb port since ya know samsungs port sucks ass so j get a new charger and nothing. Let me remind you tthat this is a recent problem. Any body know a fix to this?

Test your charger. Try usb charge from pc. With a different cable to be sure something is not crossed inside.

The battery should not drain like that period not even cm is that bad
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
My point is nothing to do with rom or phone but rather the charger or cable my be damage and causing short that drains the battery. Hence the suggestion to try other cables and charge methods to eliminate the possibility of this being the culprit.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Bought a new charger before I posted. Still draining!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Does it also fail to charge if the phone is turned off? If it charges while off then perhaps its a software issue after all. If not then the charge/usb port might be bad. How are you charging the battery between posting?

It shows its charging. But it'll go from like 11% to 0% in like 10 mins. And yea it charges with the screen off.

Have you tried to backup and re-flash your phone? Have you tried a battery calibration by wiping the battery stats? My advice *having never encountered that issue* would be to save all your data, make a list of the apps you use regularly and re-flash the phone then manually re-download each app and do not restore anything. if all goes well and it charges like normal then your set and can if you wish restore your old data and/or apps 1 per day till you notice the problem, return if it does.
I did just that. Reflashed a new rom and less drain but its definatly.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
My next advice would be to try stock 2.2 for a day or so and see if it has issues. then if its ok try a new stable version of cm7 or miui * different build than previously used* and see if the problem returns.

Ive been thinking of cm7 but the battery life is driving me away. I was able to charge it till like 40% then i unplugged it by accident and I plugged it back in and BOOM battery drain. Its at 0% and will not rise.

If the phone gets hotter than 120° then it wil stop charging and actually dicharge. Make sure your not overcloking or ajything.
My advice on which rom if your not set would be to use trigger. I moved to trigger a long time ago after one of my bionix flashes didnt work quite right and have not looked back yet. I am currently on project v with trigger theme which is a little more like stock but with tweaks than a fully custom rom.
Ok so I got it to charge too 100% overnight and I unplugged it and it went down too 37% instantly. -__- just started working today and this isn't cool. I also left it by a fan so it wasn't hot at all.

In that case I would be sure to flash back to stock clean and then go to a different rom, I suggest Trigger 3.2 very stable in my experience, and charge to 100% and do a battery calibration. Trigger comes with an app to calibrate the battery and be sure its fully charged.

Nexus 7 very slow to charge?

Hello everyone, I have a new nexus 7 and love it, but it seems to take way too long to charge. After a full discharge, my tablet takes more them 24 hours to charge. I have drained my battery twice to the point that my nexus powers off. Then I plug in, some back after more then a nights rest and still not fully charged? Not sure what'd going on, but this does not seem normal....

I'm in the same boat. It makes no sense. I've called Google Play support once already because it randomly died at over 30%. This last time I was using it I was at I assume over 20% since the battery level wasn't red and then it made the noise that battery was low and then turned off. What is the proper way to calibrate a battery since there are 90 million different ways if you search Google. I am running stock, rooted 4.1.1 btw. The last person's suggestion and lols following are not uncommon nowadays on xda, we just need some real solutions, thanks.
I feel my Nexus 7 is slow to charge, but it does do so overnight.
When plugged in to the charger and cord provided by google/asus, under Settings/Battery it says it is charging(AC), though once it did say charging (usb).

I use chargers from various phones. Have used different phone chargers with all my phones. Never had or noticed any problems. I'm sure you will be fine.

Yes, it's safe. I'm using an old Samsung charger to charge my Nexus. The charger doesn't really matter IMO.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
When using chargers that don’t come with the device, the only difference it can possibly cause is the rate of charging (how fast your device charges).
Just take a look at the milliamp rating on your charger. The N4 comes with a charger that outputs at 1400ma. I found that if I charged my N4 with a charger made for SE Arc, it takes forever to charge which isn’t a surprise since that charger outputs 750ma.
Don’t worry about using a higher milliamp charger on a device that’s rated to charge at a lower rate. The device will only draw what it needs. I’m not sure what’s the maximum ma the N4 will charge at, but let’s assume it will charge at 1400ma maximum. Even if you use a 2A charger, it will still charge at 1400ma.
Even I thot its safe and was using my Nexus 7 charger with the Nexus 4 . everything was fine for a few hours. Then suddenly it froze and the screen started getting weird lines on it .I immediately removed the charger and while the device was rebooting I could notice that the screen had a burn in kinda image on it. It slowly faded away later. Haven't used the Nexus 7 charger since and I've never got the same issue again.

I don't think so. Cuz I wasn't even using it. It was just lying there most of the time. I switched on the display and was looking at battery monitor widget to check the charging status and then maybe twitter or something and it just froze. Held down the power button for 10seconds then restarted it.

As a rule of thumb I'd keep then Nexus 4 away from the Nexus 7 charger.
Sent from my Nexus 4
The N7 charger is rated at 2A. I sometimes use it to charge my N4. Most of the time, I use a generic 2A charger. At the office, I use a Samsung 2A charger for my N4. I’ve encountered zero problems.
Truthfully I'm more concerned using a 12v in the car. Any suggestions what I can get?

Phone discharging even when plugged in?

Anybody else seeing that even if your phone is plugged in it will continue discharging if you are using it?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Isn't this always the case? My understanding is that the phone is always powered by the battery and not the plug. If your using the phone and using more power than the charger is supplying then the phone will discharge accordingly. Could be wrong but that's always how I thought it worked.

What's your battery life like? You may have some issues with software maxing out the CPU.
Anyway, the One X battery can run out when using navigation software and on car charger (maybe 0.5A).

I ran into that when I was using a under rated charger or just plugged into a USB port. Official chargers (or equivalent) didn't have that problem it was slower if I was constantly using it while charging, but it did it.
Playing games, navigate, heavy tasks - looses percentage.
Browsing,messaging, mailing,etc - The battery charges.

I believe this is correct. Whenever I used my Lumia 920 for gps+music on a cheap car charger, it would always discharge faster than it would charge. This is because 1) 12V-car/usb chargers charge at a slower rate than AC chargers and 2) some cheaper car chargers output even lower than normal USB charging rates.
Shopping for a new mobile/car charging solution for my Asus TF300T (gonna use for GPS.. tethered to my HTC One) and my HTC One, i ended up getting this multi-use charger. Initially, i was going to get this high power charger just for usb (which is the first charger on amazon i've seen to output 18 W / 3.6 A), but wanted a more unified solution that I could plug both my One and TF300t into. Because I'll be using the tablet for GPS+music, I can tuck the phone away charging at a tolerable rate. Oh, a direct 12v car charger to HTC One will charge the fastest if that's what you're looking for.

Note 3 Charged from 10% to 100% in LESS than 1 hour!

This is CRAZY! I'd been using my S4 charger all along and decided to try the cable that came with the phone and I'm IMPRESSED! WOW

It's strange that yours charges so fast? Most of the stuff I've read so far for charging with the stock N3 wall charger is that they're charging at around 35%/hr
How's yours doing so fast??

I have the same experience as OP. We need some hard data on this. What's the best app for monitoring charging? I use system monitor. I love the battery graph in my pull down menu.
