My galaxy s4 is just over a month old.
I run my phone with power saving on, lowest brightness, wifi/sync/gestures/bluetooth/4G/gps/location services/etc all off.
Suddenly at approx 55% my phone died and wouldn't turn back on. I couldn't understand, but when charging it and checking battery stats it had apparently drained 55% just spontaneously.

I thought maybe this was a rom issue, so I wiped all data/cache/battery stats and installed CynogenMod 10.2 v28/08/2013 with only google apps installed (sync off) and as you can see with the following images, I barely used my phone and I am still experiencing the same issue - my phone is spontaneously going from [..}% to 0%. There's just 1.5 hours screen usage in the whole charge cycle. I can pull a maximum of 4-5 hours out of my phone if I don't touch it, and seeing some people racking up even days on their galaxy, I'm sure this isn't normal.

I'm at uni for up to 12 hrs a day and desperately need a solution to pull a longer day out of my phone, as I rely on it heavily.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I'd be sending it to a service centre for a warranty fix if it were mine.

I've done a search but can't find anything to do with my issue. I am running L26LEOV2.1_GoldEdition_213_WWE_21899_SE and have been for probably a month. Everything has been running excellent. I've got AS pushmail, weather etc all running and had no issues.
All of a sudden the battery life has disappeared. Noticed my battery at ~30% last night which was strange as I usually charge every night or 2nd night but it's never that low. After about 45mins it was at 8% just sitting idle (no data or anything running).
Did a full charge last night before going to bed and unplugged it. So 100% charged. This morning I found the phone is off, turn it on and its on 0% then shuts down again due to no power. Would only be like 6-8mths old.
I haven't made any software/ROM changes in weeks so I'm fairly sure it is hardware related. Before I go back to stock ROM and send it in for warranty work, does anyone have any suggestions for things to try beforehand? I don't want to go back to an old Nokia while I'm waiting
You could try BattLog to see where/when the rapid power drain is occurring. I've had my battery do the same thing once. I usually get through the work day with 50% left, but one day (without any use) my HD2 was dead before lunch. The problem went away as mysteriously as it arrived. So maybe just give it a few more charges and see if it works itself out. I'm curious if you've noticed any unusual ammount of heat from the battery? It could very well be that it is failing.
I'll try that program but oddly enough today its been ok, using only 10% with a bit of google maps and phone usage in about 10hr.
running a flashed stock 4.0.4 ICS ROM, Rooted.
everything was running great. battery life was one of the more amazing parts of this tablet. then one day last week i had it on the charger half the day, went to go grab it, wouldn't turn on.
after lots of button pushing, swearing, about 30 minutes of it, i put it back on the charger. 10 minutes later i got a blue battery symbol charging and i held down the power button for 30 seconds and it turned on. since then have had no issues with it working, except battery life is poor. the initial time after i used it, the thing lost like a percent every couple of minutes just sitting there. it was dead within an hour and a half or so, barely touched.
i charged it fully, and reset the battery stats via battery calibrator (even though google says that is useless), then i let it drain to 0 with usage and charged it up again. now the battery life is pretty average. i lose about 10% every half hour on wifi browsing the web, screen at anywhere from 15-30% via Lux, and checking to see if anything is running nonstop in the background. so that gives me only 5 hours of total battery life just browsing the web. before i was watching HD movies 2 hours long on almost 100% brightness with some browsing and messing about in the middle and losing 20%.
i have better battery stats installed and the tab is going into deep sleep very well. also it is barely utilizing full speed, it is rarely at 1.2ghz, usually at 500mhz or 200mhz if not deep sleeping.
a couple times i had some partial wakelock issues but nothing bad. but every other day, the battery life just goes fast just doing regular stuff. nothing unusual going on in the background.
anyone else have this happen?
if i do a full reset can that help? or is this a hardware failure and time to call samsung.
The best battery life I have ever had was on Quicksilver 0.9. I got about 13,5 hours with the display on (WiFi off and airplane mode on)...
On a stock rom u should get about 10 hours with the display on.
On cyanogen-mod ROMs I am experiencing the same thing as you. The battery is dead after ~7 hours.
I would suggest to restock the tab, wipe it and just run with the apps you really need. Maybe even try Quicksilver and to be 100% sure u could even flash the ROM when the battery is at 100%.
What does the battery stats in the settings-app say?
battery settings shows nothing that could be a culprit. this thing deep sleeps like a champ.
screen off just laying around i won't even lose a percent an hour. just all of a sudden i went from being able to browse the web on wifi for 10 hours, to 5. all after that weird time the battery drained super fast.
i wiped cache and dalvik cache, same thing.
going to try reflashing with the newer ICS posted recently. UK Q2 based and see what happens.
P.S. how long until i can post more than once every 5 minutes?
I recently purchased a used S4 through Swappa from XDA user @disasp6. When the phone arrived, the battery was fully discharged. I let my wife use the phone a couple of days while hers was being repaired, and she experienced the battery running completely down and needing a recharge before the end of the day after being 100% in the morning. I then turned the phone off and put it aside for over a week and when I tried to turn it on, the battery was dead.
I tried a test, charging the battery to 100% and pulling the battery out of the phone for 24 hours. The battery retained it's charge. It did lose just a little bit of charge in a 24 hour period, but I was able to top it off with about 10 minutes of charging. I then left it in the phone for 24 hours with the phone turned off, and at the end of 24 hours the battery was fully discharged.
I've never seen a problem like this. Any phone I have ever owned has retained it's full charge when turned off. The phone is running safestrap with Goldfinger 9.0 XXUGNK4. It seems to be running normally. I haven't seen any issues with the phone firmware or its operation in the limited time I have been using it.
Does anyone have any idea what the cause of this could be, or how to troubleshoot the issue?

I'd say first thing to do is wipe and start from stock. See if that fixes anything.

I flashed back to stock NJ4, rooted and installed Better Battery Stats. I fully charged the phone and left it unplugged over night. After 8 hours of total inactivity, the battery had discharged from 100% to 60%, and Bettery Battery Stats indicated that the phone was in Deep Sleep 100% of the time since unplugged. There were 0% partial wakelocks of any kind. In my thinking, this verifies that the issue is hardware related. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
I would think idle drain with 100% Deep Sleep should produce somewhere around 0.5% per hour drain, and certainly less than 1%. I'm not familiar with the S IV so I'm not sure the exact number. Can anyone verify this?
Dear XDA,
Since a few weeks I began experiencing problems with the battery of my Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910F).
It all started with the phone lasting a lot shorter per day and suddenly shutting off at around 5-8% battery left.
Today it was the worst I've ever experienced. I make a short list of what happened.
Charged to 100% overnight and taken charger out at 7:30
Went to the gym, 98% left after 1 hour idle
Bumped an extra 4% when transferring files from PC at 15:10 (from around 78 to 82%)
Watched 10 minutes of Under the Dome and did some Whatsapp
Read an article on the internet
Phone was suddenly at 28% at 19:00, shut it down for a bit
Powered on at 19:25 with only 18% left
Phone died at 19:30 with 14% left. 2h and 40 min Screen On Time. 12 hour standby.
Still able to boot but can't get past coloured Samsung logo
LED Notification stays blue and can keep booting for about 30 more times.
So basically my phone died after 2h and 40 min Screen On Time with still some charge left.
This is the worst I've had so far.
The weirdest part is that the Notification LED stays on after trying to boot it once. The only way to remove this is by taking out the battery.
When the phone was new I was able to at least get 4-5 hours Screen On Time depending on brightness.
Things I tried to solve it:
Full charge cycle and emptying it
Factory reset
Checking for unusual activity (wakelocks)
I've checked for any wakelocks but I think this might be a defect instead.
Can anyone please help me? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance anyway!
Kind regards,
Daniel Collignon
Anyone?!
If you use latest version of tapatalk that's the problem
Try 4.9.5 - you can find @ apkmirror site...

I don't even use Tapatalk...
Try a new battery, it can become 'weak' after a while.

Don't worry ! I have gone through this too . A log or a screenshot of BBS , System battery graph would help us . Please share it
well my phone is n910H. it lasts less than a day and it dies when it reach 30% and when i connect the charger it gives me 0%. does this means the battery is faulty or is it a software issue ?
Me too!
I have the exact problem stated in the op. I am pretty sure it must be a callibration issue because I've tried too many times the *#0228#. I've tried taking out the battery and putting it after some minutes. I've tried off-charging, on with screen off charging, on charging, fast charging, slow charging, everything and I have at most 4 hours of use, with 1 or 2SOT.
Sometimes I charge it and it stops at 70 or 75%. Today, it stopped at %50 (off-charged) and I removed the battery, waited 5 minutes, put it back on and it showed 100% (still off). Battery lasted less than 1 hour (okay, I was playing candy crush and clash of clans ).
I use my phone without the power saving mode for a snappier performance, but it's impossible that the battery lasts so little time.
Could you solve it? or just bought a new one?
Battery drain
I have same issue on my Note 4 for a last few months. And it's just getting worse.
Today it dropped from 48% to 5% and turned off.
I even took it to Samsung service and they told me that everything is OK with phone and that I have to change charging equpment.
I did that and it didn't help. It's happening again.
Help please?
Hi my gt-i9301i seems to be having problems with the battery indicator, from 100-50% it is working okay but when it gets below 50 it freaks out, it immediately drops to 14% then skips to 7% and after two or three minutes it turns off. When I remove the battery and put it back in after a minute it goes back to 27% but then does the same, drops immediately to somewhere near 7% and dies again. What can be the problem, I tried different batteries, calibrating the battery by dropping to 0 then back to 100 and using a battery calibration app (root) but nothing fixes it. It doesn't matter if it is the stock firmware 4.4.4 or lineageos 17.1, it does the same thing on both. Anybody know a solution? I get 2 hours SoT (screen on time) and this is not enough to get me through the day and it is my daily driver since I'm a student and I currently don't have enough money for a new phone.
Just to mention, it's not because it's set to Performance mode, it does the same on Balanced too. Battery saving mode makes the phone unusably slow.
