Dear XDA,
Since a few weeks I began experiencing problems with the battery of my Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910F).
It all started with the phone lasting a lot shorter per day and suddenly shutting off at around 5-8% battery left.
Today it was the worst I've ever experienced. I make a short list of what happened.
Charged to 100% overnight and taken charger out at 7:30
Went to the gym, 98% left after 1 hour idle
Bumped an extra 4% when transferring files from PC at 15:10 (from around 78 to 82%)
Watched 10 minutes of Under the Dome and did some Whatsapp
Read an article on the internet
Phone was suddenly at 28% at 19:00, shut it down for a bit
Powered on at 19:25 with only 18% left
Phone died at 19:30 with 14% left. 2h and 40 min Screen On Time. 12 hour standby.
Still able to boot but can't get past coloured Samsung logo
LED Notification stays blue and can keep booting for about 30 more times.
So basically my phone died after 2h and 40 min Screen On Time with still some charge left.
This is the worst I've had so far.
The weirdest part is that the Notification LED stays on after trying to boot it once. The only way to remove this is by taking out the battery.
When the phone was new I was able to at least get 4-5 hours Screen On Time depending on brightness.
Things I tried to solve it:
Full charge cycle and emptying it
Factory reset
Checking for unusual activity (wakelocks)
I've checked for any wakelocks but I think this might be a defect instead.
Can anyone please help me? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance anyway!
Kind regards,
Daniel Collignon
Anyone?!
If you use latest version of tapatalk that's the problem

I don't even use Tapatalk...
Try a new battery, it can become 'weak' after a while.

Don't worry ! I have gone through this too . A log or a screenshot of BBS , System battery graph would help us . Please share it
well my phone is n910H. it lasts less than a day and it dies when it reach 30% and when i connect the charger it gives me 0%. does this means the battery is faulty or is it a software issue ?
Me too!
I have the exact problem stated in the op. I am pretty sure it must be a callibration issue because I've tried too many times the *#0228#. I've tried taking out the battery and putting it after some minutes. I've tried off-charging, on with screen off charging, on charging, fast charging, slow charging, everything and I have at most 4 hours of use, with 1 or 2SOT.
Sometimes I charge it and it stops at 70 or 75%. Today, it stopped at %50 (off-charged) and I removed the battery, waited 5 minutes, put it back on and it showed 100% (still off). Battery lasted less than 1 hour (okay, I was playing candy crush and clash of clans ).
I use my phone without the power saving mode for a snappier performance, but it's impossible that the battery lasts so little time.
Could you solve it? or just bought a new one?
Battery drain
I have same issue on my Note 4 for a last few months. And it's just getting worse.
Today it dropped from 48% to 5% and turned off.
I even took it to Samsung service and they told me that everything is OK with phone and that I have to change charging equpment.
I did that and it didn't help. It's happening again.
Help please?

I just found another painful bug....this one is related to charging (battery). I normally put my qtek on charge all through the night when I go to bed. For the last 4-5 days I have been unplugging the device when it showed 100% charge, put it on standby (no wifi, btooth, gsm etc.) and made sure there were no applications running. I usually leave it in the standby state for 2 hours while I finish my morning exercise.
whenever I return, I see a power loss of 20%!! I was shocked to see how I could loose 20% in 2 hours ith my device on standby mode. this time, I even made sure I pressed the power button before I closed the lid, and still...no luck :-( I still lost 19%
I guess the problem is, when the charger is connected and the battery gets completely charged, it stops charging further. I guess it reaches a fully charged state within 2 hours, and the battery starts to drain all through the night...and wm5/htc don't start charging once again when the levels go down....i'll have to do a cuple more tests until I can totally confirm that this is the bug...until then, are anyone of you guys experiencing the same problems?
Another thing I forgot to mention, once again I charge my battery from 80% to 100%, and it lasts through the entire day(12 hrs) and drops to only 40% with highhh usage (bluetooth ON throughout, gsm on with 3hrs talktime, and some light gprs usage). so it really is not a problem of my battery as I see it!
Cheers,
San
Hmmm. I hate to say, but I don't see that problem. But I do have the unlocked JasJar Universal from HTC, not the qtek. If this happens with other qtecs, maybe they load a custom software that is acting up. In fact, I could leave the device on for two straight hours off a 100% charge and I don't think I'd lose 20% unless the phone was on too.

have you tried charging your device for well over two hours before unplugging? (around 8-9 hours of charging for instance?)
I don't really think it has anything to do with the qtek rom/device. the qtek rom has the least ammt of customisations on it...
I still suspect that the charging process halts and it starts to drain the battery....but the os doesn't reinitiate the charging process once again....hmm
I'll have to wait till tomm before I can do another round of checking....tomm, I want to charge it....and before I unplug, I'd remove the battery and put it back and see what it indicates...I suspect that the power would have already dropped to ~80% by then...that's the only explanation I can think of at the moment....

Hi Dreamtheater!!!
I exactly follow you as far as charging is concerned and I hv a Jasjar....just to inform you...I started charging yesterday at 11.30 PM and just got up to see the charge..it is 100%...no power loss...

it shows 100% for me too...but in just 2 hrs, it drops to 80% which is weird! from then on, it drains normally...
I still need some time to nail the exact cause for the problem...hmm!

Hey dreamtheater, I charge my Exec overnite everynite just like you. Usually at least 7 to 8 hrs everynite, but I have yet to experience what you mentioned here. My Exec always start fresh from 100% and by the time I get home at nite, it will drop to about 70% so no, I'm not getting the batt drain issue like you do..
I did not experience any such behaviour with my Qtek. It charged fine over night and had 100% battery when unpluged.
Are you sure your's does not wake up for some reason after you suspend it?
Dreamtheatre, I charged my XDA Exec overnight (7 hrs) and after 2 hrs with GSM/UMTS radio on the unit lost 5% battery charge.
@DT,
You need to set the device to switch off after a specified time interval. This can be done by going to start>settings>battery>advanced and check the device timeout box. I usually set it to 1 minute.
Last night i was browsing on my JJ and fell asleep while doing so, IE and notes and inbox applications were still open. When i started, the battery level was 93%, i browsed for about 10 minutes over Wifi before i fell asleep. The device shut itself off and when i woke up the battery level was 82% which is prportionate to my 10 min WiFi use and probably 1 minute standby time before it shut itself off.
Try it out, i'm sure you will stop seeing the massive battery drain
Cheers.
Another thing. Contraty to what people think, keeping the universal's battery topped off improves battery life. Prevent it from dropping all the way to say 30% or so. You will notice the difference in battery life in just about a week or so
Another source of battery drainage i've found is when i'm charging my Exec from the USB connection on my PC - If I leave my Exec connected and put my PC into standby, it will literally suck the life out of the battery over the course of a few hours!
I think some of you have got me wrong...let me restate the problem...
I charge all night
Wake up with 100% charge
Pull off the charger
Leave it on standby for ~2 hrs (no apps running, gsm, wifi, all off)
Come back, and find a ~20% drop
Back to my findings now.......
Another morning, no luck :-(
It had 100% charge...I pulled off the battery, put it back in and restarted....still showed 100%, so I guess it really was fully charged after all. This time I turned off receive incoming beams as well....left it for a couple hours, and was disappointed to see 82% when I got back :-(
However, through the day I get excellent battery life....all day's use ends up consuming roughly 30-40% charge which is excellent compared to my prev xda2 which would comparitively loose all of it by eod. I guess if I park my device in flight mode it tends to start draining quickly....now that's my only available reason or cause that I can think of....
tomm I guess I won't put the device on flight mode and leave it just On instead. This is weird because its just me having this problem :-(
San
PS: I'm using the regular ac charger itself for charging...hmm
DT, I disabled PowerSave and switched off the GSM/UMTS radio on my Exec. After about 8 hours I had lost about 30% charge. So your 20% does seem high. It could just be the battery as loss of charge is not linear. Why not let it drop to say 60% and then do your test again. By the way there spare batteries seem to be available now for the Universal.
Okay, just a warning. This firmware is a battery destroyer. Within 11 minutes my battery has dropped 10% and I have no running background processes and I'm not doing anything with the unit. Just checking the screen once in a while. I've actually watched it go down 1% in a minute.
I'm telling you...if you have not installed this update...don't do it!
Too late for me.. already updated. I'll keep an eye on my battery level and let you know if I notice it go down faster than normal.
I just unpluged from the charger. It is at 100%.. I'll let you know where it is in 1 hour. I'll turn on display to stay on to simulate being used and then let it set.
Edit: Okay after 10 minutes.. still at 100% screen always on.. that was with whatever programs load into the background after boot.. I haven't killed any apps. I now have launched my Pykl3 Radar app to increase cpu from 300Mhz to 1000Mhz.. it refreshes the radar screen every 5 minutes.. we'll see how the battery does with the processor working harder.
I'm not noticing any difference really... Same battery life as before(I think, I haven't done any formal battery life tests or anything)
Seems fine for me too, but I'll go ahead and do this test.
Edit1: After 30 minutes it is still at 100%.
Edit2: After 35 minutes it has gone down to 99%
Edit3: After 60 minutes it has gone down to 96%
Edit4: After 90 minutes it has gone down to 90%
Edit5: After 2 hours it has gone down to 82%
Edit6: After 2.5 hours it has gone down to 76%
Edit7: After 3 hours it has gone down to 67%
Edit8: After 3.5 hour it has gone down to 61%
Edit9: After 4 hours it has gone down to 55%
Edit10: After 4.5 hours it has gone down to 50%
Edit11: After 5 hours it has gone down to 46%
Edit12: After 5.5 hours it has gone down to 44%
Edit13: After 6 hours it has gone down to 40%
So this averages out to a discharge rate of 10%/hr
This test was done with the screen fully on the whole time. Mostly running at full 1000Mhz and with wifi on and downloading data every 5 or so minutes.
If I let it run down to 20%, I would probably get about 8 hours which is within the specs of the Archos 101.
I was pushing the device harder than average and I believe in normal use I could get more than 10 hours.
So I conclude the battery problems aren't related to the latest firmware release 2.1.04.
Yeah, looks like you might just have a problem with your device. Have you tried reformatting and reinstall?
After about 4 hours of usage (mostly Wordfeud) with Softlocker active (keeps device awake when screen is off) I still have 82%.

Saying that your battery is depleting at 1% per minute is useless information given that many electronic devices can sometimes drop by 20% in 1 second
Please only evalute battery usage by observing how much time it takes to fully discharge.
Please check battery history with the android system tool and also more detailed info accesible with this widget: http://www.appbrain.com/app/quick-battery/com.bwx.qs.battery
You can also take a look at CPU usage with http://www.appbrain.com/app/os-monitor/com.eolwral.osmonitor
Yesterday I updated to 2.1.4 and really have not noticed any battery drainage. No issue from my side.
Updating last night on Archos 70 8GB, after fully charged all night and playing net for 20 minutes continuously, battery drops to 99%. No sign of drainage too.
don't see any issue on battery drainage on my Archos 70IT either =)
It is interesting, but in this thread I appear to be the odd freak out and no one is having any issue except me...yet in the other 2.1.4 thread, a lot of people are experiencing this battery problem...not sure why that is, but the problem is there and it is real even if it is hit or miss on people experiencing it.
Yep, it's real. I put in a service ticket. I wiped and reloaded my a70 today, but it was still drawing over 800 ma listening to Pandora. I only had about 30% left on the battery, and I wanted to completely discharge it. It's stone dead and on the charge right now. I'll find out early if it helped. 3am start tomorrow. Goodnight.
(first post ) I just installed firmware 2.1.4 yesterday, and haven't noticed any difference in battery life. Although, I have noticed that 3d games obliterate my battery life now, where they just ate it before.
Wiped, reloaded, completely discharged, and charged over night. Down 20% the first hour.

Mine is still around 10% drop every hour I have wifi on for net surfing. Mine just upgraded from 2.1.2, just for information.
don't see any issue on battery drainage on my Archos 101 IT either
One thing I am noticing is that is seems more sensitive to cranking up the processor to somewhere between 600Mhz and 1Ghz at various times. Before it wasn't as sensitive and often would stay in the 300-600 range for me. This change may be why people have noticed "increased performance/less lag?"
That might be part of the drain issue or something else.
I think the point is that it is hit or miss out there. Some people get the glitch and some don't. Regardless, Archos needs to address the problem.
Ok, now this is interesting. Just to try something different, I reformatted my tablet this time and installed 2.1.3, then restored everything with Titanium. I seemed to be holding up much better. After an hour it had barely dropped. To put it to the test I drove home from work with bt gps and google maps via tether. All tolled, in 2 hours it dropped about 10%. I thought I had it fixed. Then I realized I hadn't rebooted after restoring with Titanium, so it was still rooted. I rebooted it and the wheels came off. It dropped over 10% in about 20 minutes. I ran the root app again and it leveled right off. It's down to 10% now so I have to charge it before I can experiment more, but maybe someone else can try and see if they see the same thing.
Maybe root has something to do with it.. I've never rooted and don't have a problem.. I wonder if the only people having problems are the ones that rooted.. although it sounds backwards in your case.

I was wondering the same thing. It also seems to have to do with wifi, because with it off it draws almost nothing. The exploit has something to do with the wifi, so who knows.
Hello everyone, i just purchased a second hand Note 3 N9005. The phone was bought 1 year ago. Everything is fine except two things.
1) Battery: As soon as i charge the phone battery drops really quick down to 80%. For example it discharges 10%+ or more during night (wifi, mobile data off), if i use the phone it will drop to 80% in a matter of minutes. No obvious reason for the drain in my eyes. As soon as i hit 80% it starts to behave more normally. The more i discharge it the harder it gets to run down the battery ! Last night i was trying to fully discharge it. Battery was down to 1% and it took 45+ minutes of youtube playback to go from 1% to empty !!! Moreover at night if battery is under 80% with 7-8 hours of sleep it won't drop at all. As soon as i plug in the phone it goes from 0% to 15% instantly ! Then it charges normally.
Is this behavior normal ? I mean the no linear discharge. I've had LG G2 before and Nexus 4 and i didn't have this issue.
If this is not normal, is it most likely a damaged battery or could it be phone's fault/ inability to read the battery charge correct?
2) S-Pen. I have noticed that it needs some pressure to work. I've tried Note Pro 12.2 S Pen on the phone and it works with a lot less pressure. I've opened the pen and increased it's sensitivity it got better but still not as comfortable to use like the S-pen from the Note 12.2. Anyone else noticed this ?
Thanks in advance for your time

Yeah i have changed the tip. I even tried a tip from the Note 12.2 pen, same thing. I think it comes down to a sensitivity issue.

Rockfreak I'm also having the same exact problem of the battery, my battery drains from 100% to 82% in less than 25 minutes after that its solwing down, there is a strange thing some certain percentage is hard to be drained easily as some time it takes 10 minutes to drain a certain percentage specifically i can't understand why but I believe for some reason the system is not reading the exact percentage and capacity of the battery.
However, although of the strange battery behavior I'm getting almost 5 and half an hour screen on time no matter how long I'm idle also i never close my 3g connection and it's always connected as H+.
Moreover, i tried to use battery calibration application that doesn't require root access (my N3 is not rooted) when the mobile is in the charger and fully charged notfication appears i restart the mobile without unplugging it from the adapter once it's boot i go to the batter application program and press calibrate then i unplug my mobile.
In this excact period of time i can notice a big difference in the battery behavior and it starts to drain almost normally, anyhow, I'm still getting the same excact screen on time which is around 5 to 5 and half hour, also as soons as the battery reaches 0% or 5% and i charge it again to 100% and get the battery full notification the misbehavior starts again.
I tried alot of things but unfortunately with no luck. So i decided that ignorance is a gift xD

With that amount of screen time i wouldn't be bothered either ....I'm getting 90-120 minutes of screen time maximum in under 1 day usage....thanks for the info though
I got an S4 i9505 replacement yesterday from my insurance company. It effectively seems to be new phone and battery, anyway when I turned it on it had 70% battery left, I logged into my various things and it sat about downloading and restoring and installing a 5.0.1 update, the process took about 30 mins and at the end of the 30 mins I had 9% battery left, I connected to the charger and it was full again in 30mins which I found odd.
Anyway let it sit on the charger all night, took it off this morning and with 2 mins of screen on time I am already at 94%, I can't see how this thing will last the day.
I am not a newbie, I have things like sync and GPS etc turned off and screen brightness lowered however in saying that even at the lowest setting it seems very bright.
Any ideas?

You cannot jump to conclusions based on this. Your device was setting up, your battery needs to settle etc. It's normal to discharge faster.
Try a few charges / discharges and see if it helps.
But most likely if it's charging way too fast and discharging fast as well, the problem is most likely the battery itself, it might be a old one.
Right ok, been using this for a few days now, with basically everything turned off I am getting 1 hr screen on time, something not right but can't figure out what

Probably caused by battery calibration. Just use your prior rom from 100% to when it shuts off a couple of times to retrain it.
If you use multiple batteries like I do, you'll never be able to calibrate, and will just have to live with this issue.

Well not entirely true. Ur battery have the chip that tells the system how much left the battery is. I often have those prob. But now is gone. I just charge until 100% let it 10min charged. Then use it until it off. (Really really off.) Like when the battery circuit stop the battery not the phone shutting down. After that charge until 100% and after 100% i let it charge for 1hour to make sure it really 100% . done
Same here after last update. From 10 to 0% in second
+1 here
Thats why I utterly I hate sw updates.
My Galaxy NOTE 4 SM-N910C
Same problem here ,, considering buying a new battery but afraid that the problem isn't from the battery and get the same drop again with the new on
my phone is 1 year old
i had the same problem, so what i did was to flash the Rulinglite ROM for my note 4 910 C. it works fine now.
Hey guys, I got the same problem. Sometimes it drops from 15% to 4% in a few minutes and then from 4% to 1% in another few minutes (without using phone ofc).
Also, when i charge my phone - it shows me 100%, but when i reboot it - i got like 94%. Few minutes later - again 100%. After reboot - 95%.. etc etc etc... (charger is pluged on for all this time)
Do you have this problem?

Same problem here
my problem is that the battery percents are getting lower ery fast..if i make some actions that require more battery and i have 20% of battery, the percent goes to 16 so quickly and then the phone hangs up. I turn it on, it shows lesss battery, then it hangs up again and i need do recharge the battery. I bounght the phone at 2nd hand, i noticed the battery issue since i was testing it, but i love the phone. i am affraid not to be a hardware problem with one of the internal components of the phone, that killed the battery...i tested the battery on Note 3 and i am sure that the battery has a problem. What if i buy a new battery and a malfunctioning component of the phone damages the new battery too?
For me: i will dial *#0228# press quick start and wait till phone lids up connect charger and charge until 100% and then dont unplug first leave it there for 30mins or more and then unplug. ( do not unplug it halfway )
Second i switch off my phone take out battery and wait around 3 mins and then put back in and start charging it to 100% without switching device on, also same thing leave for sometime before unplug when it reaches 100%. you can also switch on after 100% and wait for sometime. ( as booting phone drains battery too )
hope it helps
Bought a new battery still drains at 10percent exactly, thought it's a lollipop issue, but even in MM it exactly shuts off at 10%.
