WiFi will not connect! - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a N10 and am loving it so far. But theres one thing thats annoying the crap out of me. I have read the other posts about wifi problems, but they seem to be about wifi drops. Mine refuses to connect to my home network altogether. However, it connects to other networks like wifi tethering from my phone and other public wifi networks just fine. I own a netgear router BTW.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA

Which version of the app are you using? I find that strange things tend to happen, but eventually it does work after rebooting (sometime more than once).

I just recently was having the same problem. It would connect to my laptop fine...but no internet. Try clearing data for it first. For me, I had to wipe all data and programs...and reflash the rom (bonsai). It works fine, now. I am using the pre14 version.
Also dont have 4g turned on at first.

I don't think it was a WiFi issue. Most probably, the ISP your WiFi router is connected to had a connection issue with a portion of the internet. It happens from time to time when a node goes down temporarily, and an alternate route can't be found.

Google Now learns even without Wifi on traffic patterns?

I'm curious how it learns home/work and traffic patterns if I never have it on Wifi in the car. I usually do, but if my data plan gets used up to much will it still be able to perform without an internet or no?

My technical knowledge on the issue is limited, but I'm going to guess.
Even if there is no wifi data connection, the device can still see SSIDs broadcast from any wifi networks it comes into contact with. It could log these networks and store them. Then when a data connection is re-established it can figure out where the wifi networks located, and combine that with GPS info, which needs no wifi data connection to work, to figure out your route.
Again, just a guess.
Ah. Well I had no net just now and WiFi was off and it picked up my traffic pattern just fine. So I don't know what to think lol.

Google sees everything, anywher you are
Seriously though, it probably logs what you do, stores info locally when you're connected (weather, directions, etc.) and then, gives you the info when you need it, and updates once you're connected again.
Kinda makes you a bit concerned for the day machines become self-aware.

Connects before you go and when you arrive. Google maps can tell you how long it takes to go from A to B. Why shouldn't it be able to reverse it?

N4 on AT&T: wi-fi tether works great except for iPad. Any suggestions?

Using an un-rooted N4 on AT&T using the stock wi-fi tether setup. I get great speeds on my laptop and desktop (6-9 mbps) over wi-fi tether, but my iPad 3 and iPad mini can connect to the network but have just a trickle of data flow at best and usually no data at all. For good measure, my wife's iPhone 5 has the same behavior, just to throw a third Apple device into the mix.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can try to make this work?
Thanks in advance.

I am running paranoid android and wireless tethering is working fine with my iPad. I had trouble before with a different phone and I downloaded the wireless tether app from Google, messed with the settings in the app and got it to work. I can't remember the settings though. I would try that app and in the app's settings there is a menu to choose your device, try generic jellybean and see if that works.
Edit:
This is where I always went for the tethering app... http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Wait a minute, your not rooted. It might be time to root buddy.

I just got the N4 yesterday and have not yet tried rooting. I will definitely give it a try when I get to that point.

Its really easy and worth it. You can always return to stock if you want.

I did manage to find a solution that works without rooting and wanted to share it.
Although certainly not optimal, leaving the hotspot as OPEN with no encryption will allow the iPad to connect via WiFi tether. I still plan to look into whether rooting is beneficial for me personally, but I was happy to find this method as a viable option.

Sounds like you need to check what security settings you had on the N4, when stock I had no issues acting as a hotspot for my ipad or macbook, I had it set as wpa2 psk.

Thanks for the suggestion. Wpa2 psk, which I had been trying, still did not work for whatever reason. But I realized that I had hadn't tried wpa psk and that worked perfectly so now I have some security!

I wonder why wpa2 isn't working for you, glad something is working for you and in a hotspot situation I don't think anybody is going to bother trying to hack your connection.

I don't understand either. This is an iPad 3, iPad mini, and iPhone that all don't work with wpa2, yet so many others have no problem at all.

Wifi issues

Just got my s4 and I am having a issues with my wifi. When I connect I can use it for about 5 min then it stops downloading. The icon on my phone shows that it is uploading but I don't think it is. Anyone else having wifi issues? I know it's not my wife because my ipad and all my other wifi devices work just fine. I have dlink dir 655 wireless N router and I am not rooted.

Hah, "Wife issues."
But so far, I haven't had any WiFi issues. Mine has stayed connected consistently.
Yea sorry bout that didn't notice that my phone doesn't know what wifi is haha. I don't know what's going on with my phone. It just stops downloading then like 5 min later it starts then stops again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
does it keep disconnecting & reconnecting?
Yes, it locks up showing that it is stuck uploading then I have to wait a minute or 2 for it to disconnect then reconnect.

I also have the dir 655 router and have the same issues connecting. After searching this issue, it appears that this router has compatibility problems with Samsung phones. I have connected with no problems to AT&T's hotspot, my wifi at work, the wifi at my car dealer when getting service. I only have problems when I'm at home with the Dlink. I've tried WPA with TKIP, WEP, and no encryption at all and it will constantly lose connection no matter what I do.
My work uses an ASUS router with WPA2 and AES and I am connected all day so I went out and ordered one. Hoping that when it arrives on Tuesday that I will have no more problems connecting.

Sorry about the wrong thread it was late last night and wasn't paying attention, also why the title of the post was wife issues haha. Good to know it is not my phone that isn't working . I have another wireless router I am going to try out here in a bit and see if my dir655 was the culprit. Thanks for the heads up!
