I don't think it was a WiFi issue. Most probably, the ISP your WiFi router is connected to had a connection issue with a portion of the internet. It happens from time to time when a node goes down temporarily, and an alternate route can't be found.

Which version of the app are you using? I find that strange things tend to happen, but eventually it does work after rebooting (sometime more than once).

I just recently was having the same problem. It would connect to my laptop fine...but no internet. Try clearing data for it first. For me, I had to wipe all data and programs...and reflash the rom (bonsai). It works fine, now. I am using the pre14 version.
Also dont have 4g turned on at first.

i have the android wifi tether wifi_tether_v3_0-pre14.apk ...yeah it reboots every other time
I never use tethering, but my connection is down, so I get setup and this blows. It's so slow, pages just time out and I keep getting intermittent DNS errors.
THIS is what people are all gaga over?

Are you tethering in an area where Sprint's 3g is slow?
Is there an area where it's not slow?
Btw, I tried wireless and USB tethering. Both sucked
Swyped From The Hippest Phone Using XDA Premium
All depends for me. Obviously it'll vary with area. I only break it out for the chromebook when I absolutely need it.

Plenty of areas.
Not here, apparently, but then everything here sucks

It must just be your area. I tether my EVO connection all the time and have no issues. I use it for browsing as well as playing games on xbox live and netflix. It works great.

It "works" here...but it's something I use in a pinch. I got an overdrive to reduce my hassle factor. Same signal and it's far faster.
maybe im crazy but does wifi hotspot work with 4g? I swear my tethering is pretty damn fast when i turn on 4g...
Are all of yall paying for hotspot or is it the wifi tether and can u post speeds please on 4g

Hey hipkat...my wireless tether is almost twice as fast as my home WiFi. And my home WiFi is pretty damn fast....Works great for me.
You guys are lucky then, and today, I used USB tethering again, and damned if it didn't kill my WiFi... again.
I get a connection, but nothing will update, browser won't connect, etc. They all say no connection.
I'm not even sure how I fixed it yesterday. I think it just came back "on"

At my house i average 1.5mbps on 3g, and at work where i have 4g i average 7mbps.

Either you're maxing on 4G or you're 'laxing' on the home internetz. Either way, many of us won't have 4G touching our home service.
As for speeds, and people saying 'it's fine here,' it all depends. Obviously area and coverage is going to dictate speeds. As stated, if Peoria sucks, well it sucks and it will be mirrored in your efforts to tether. You can't tether faster than your available speeds. Naturally.
I can get amazing speeds around campus but around home it's 'meh.' So, naturally, when tethering around school it's usually decent but around here it isn't. Make sense? Thank the good (raptor) lord for the WiFi.
It should be obvious that coverage and native speeds dictate your connection.
Anyone know where I can find tether drivers for XP? I tried the tetherxp.info from android.com but when I try to install them it says its not for my phone. IM using MIUI if it makes a difference.
Also plz no links to tether apps.

My Wi-Fi connectivity was rock solid on 4.2, but since applying the OTA I'm getting frequent data drops. Still shows me as connected to my router, but get no data. A quick Wi-Fi toggle fixes the problem each time. Anybody else seeing this?

Does anyone else have this issue ?
Connectivity is really key for this device and if this is common then I would likely not update.
upsetting to hear this, one of the big reasons I opted for this over some other 10.1in tablets was the MIMO dual band wireless. My Viewsonic g-tablet has horrible wifi connectivity and it makes watching youtube horrible. I couldnt imagine having to deal with it on my nexus 10 when it comes in the mail.
The first thing to check is always to set a static IP and see if the issue is resolved.
Just got my replacement today. Before the 4.2 and 4.2.1 updates, WiFi was solid no drops and full bars. After updates, pretty finicky drops quite a bit:/ hope the next update addresses this.
And yes sometimes it will show bars but no data. Especially when I start using 5ghz instead of 2.4ghz.

After a few hours with no drops, I may have discovered a fix for my situation. I changed my access point from WPA (TKIP) to WPA2 (AES), and for the last 4 hours I haven't had a single drop. Prior to this, it'd drop every few minutes. Hopefully this holds up.
I've been having connectivity issues as well. I'll have my Nexus 7 and 10 in the same spot and the N7 will hold a solid connection and the N10 will drop and reconnect ad nauseam
My Wifi is perfect.
I also have this problem , any one found a fix?

When I had this problem I found that my google account had saved my connection settings. It was trying to use the same static ip as my phone. Went in and changed it and everything is fine.
Hopefully this can help.

Using an un-rooted N4 on AT&T using the stock wi-fi tether setup. I get great speeds on my laptop and desktop (6-9 mbps) over wi-fi tether, but my iPad 3 and iPad mini can connect to the network but have just a trickle of data flow at best and usually no data at all. For good measure, my wife's iPhone 5 has the same behavior, just to throw a third Apple device into the mix.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can try to make this work?
Thanks in advance.

I am running paranoid android and wireless tethering is working fine with my iPad. I had trouble before with a different phone and I downloaded the wireless tether app from Google, messed with the settings in the app and got it to work. I can't remember the settings though. I would try that app and in the app's settings there is a menu to choose your device, try generic jellybean and see if that works.
Edit:
This is where I always went for the tethering app... http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Wait a minute, your not rooted. It might be time to root buddy.

Its really easy and worth it. You can always return to stock if you want.

I did manage to find a solution that works without rooting and wanted to share it.
Although certainly not optimal, leaving the hotspot as OPEN with no encryption will allow the iPad to connect via WiFi tether. I still plan to look into whether rooting is beneficial for me personally, but I was happy to find this method as a viable option.

Sounds like you need to check what security settings you had on the N4, when stock I had no issues acting as a hotspot for my ipad or macbook, I had it set as wpa2 psk.

Thanks for the suggestion. Wpa2 psk, which I had been trying, still did not work for whatever reason. But I realized that I had hadn't tried wpa psk and that worked perfectly so now I have some security!

I wonder why wpa2 isn't working for you, glad something is working for you and in a hotspot situation I don't think anybody is going to bother trying to hack your connection.

I don't understand either. This is an iPad 3, iPad mini, and iPhone that all don't work with wpa2, yet so many others have no problem at all.

Just got a N10 and am loving it so far. But theres one thing thats annoying the crap out of me. I have read the other posts about wifi problems, but they seem to be about wifi drops. Mine refuses to connect to my home network altogether. However, it connects to other networks like wifi tethering from my phone and other public wifi networks just fine. I own a netgear router BTW.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
