Flashaholic - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

any other flashaholics out there wanting more lol...I feel like we haven't had any new major updates/roms out in a while (especially FreeGS ). Id love to use PA or something but I cant use any AOSP/CM roms with the call bug hang up bug. since im constantly making calls. Ive been a flashaholic since the OG EVO and ive had literally every flagship phone from sprint since the EVO. Regardless who hear is itching for more goodness. All Devs keep up the great work.

Clark is pretty busy with his own life right now (as of what I've been hearing around), so FreeGS4 v3.0.0 might not be out for a while, but it's definitely in development!

How often do you immediately call back the same person after hanging up a call? I mean, really? I think this "call bug" has been greatly overstated.

Maybe I'm just lucky then, because I've had zero phone issues. In fact, I don't have any issues of any type with CM10.2, period. It's just about perfect as far as I'm concerned. I haven't used most of the other AOSP roms for more than a few minutes at a time before I flash something else though, so YMMV.

I started on Evo too, had a G1 on Tmo the day they came out but didn't get my flash on till Evo. Think I'm gonna buy a N4 for 265$ and flash the crap outa it since they dropped price so low. Haha. Love my S4. I think we have a gang of great roms. I'm usually a aosp user but tw has gotten great. Nagalite and Sacs rom are both awesome!!! Clark isn't a dev who updates all the time from what I recall on other devices I've owned he Dev'd on. PAC, Slim, and Skank are all great roms updated regularly. Everything works fine on my end on those 3 roms. I work 50 hrs a week and have kids and still manage to flash daily or at most 3 days apart. Lol. This phone runs aosp great! Much netter than other non Nexus devices I've owned..
Ps: I use my phone ALOT!! Internet and phone, MMS, SMS.. I do not have any issues.. I experienced the hang up and call back deal 1 time as I live in Hou and get great signal and rarely drop calls..

To be honest its a huge deal with me. I constantly make phone calls and I call one person then im dialing the next number right after and thats when the call hang up bug kicks in. For some its not happening at all and for others its rare, but for me the actual phone in smart phone is the most used feature lol and having sprint for that doesnt give me the best but its ok. OG EVO that awesome it was my first real smart phone.

I wish for a 4.3 TouchWiz leak or official release.

I've had 0 call bugs on the last 3 carbon ROM nightlies.

What more can really be done right now. I'm just waiting for the note 3 and I think this s4 will hold me over til then. Try using differrnt launchers and themes or making your own theme . I can't think of any thing I would need in a rom right now.

The Evo is Dying????

Hardly!
I'm sitting here with fresh d/l's of 4 ROMS, newest MIUI, Blazing ROMs Fusion 4.0 & ICS AOSP and Prime XL 3D.....

We dont need no stinkin coin flippin.. Flash all 4 and add 1 more for a total of 5 on the fly. Have a 32gb sd with 3GB left over running all 5 as listed in my sig below
I just said this. I feel like I just got this phone I am on it so much right now. I currently have nands of 3 different roms, all of which are great! I'm also in the process of putting a 4 Rom on to give a go. Sorry but for the Evo being the flagship "super" phone (my words lol) and being as old as it is I'm in no hurry to "upgrade".
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind a native 3.0-3.5 Sense or that nexus with 4.0 and a dual processor but Grandaddy Evo is still holding it's own with all of it. And honestly I am really excited to see 4.0 on here, Devs are making me pretty optimistic that Google trimmed the fat to work well across all phone types.

This is true, but I know how to make it work.
I REALLY think Blazing AOSP is the way to go. I loved Fusion, but I see people still not getting all their VM and calls, but that Prim ROM is looking totally solid, and MIUI is a bona fide' daily.
I'll end up flashing at least 3 of them over the next few days, I'm sure.
I have Miui, Classic, Newt's 3.5 and team Blaze's ICE Aosp and Deck's on Boot Manager. Much easier and quicker than nandroids.

How is that Ice AOSP?
I don't think the Evo is going anywhere anytime soon. I would still use my HTC Touch if it had Wi-Fi (Foggy resistive screen ftl). They have CM7 for it and it was originally a Windows phone. Sucks that they are moving to LTE for 4G but still.

Official ICS 4.0 ota for nexus s 4g before late galaxy nexus.

I just wanted to know if Google releases the ics ota for the nexus s 4g should I just stick with it instead of upgrading fully to Mac daddy galaxy nexus. I hope they release it on the sale date of the GN or before. Just want to hear some thoughts.

I agree with this, but the amount of resources and testing at google's disposal far outweighs that of your average rom builder.
Not only that, but I'm positive that Google has specification and performance information on the phone's hardware that the average ROM developer will simply never have. I agree, custom ROMs are fun to play with, but for everyday use, you'll never beat a stock ROM.

I'm on kang 15 and steve.garons latest kernel. You and I have very different opinions of stable. Mine is top notch. No hiccups. If u want to wait, by all means, I was...then broke down and the current roms are fantastic.
It takes less than 5mins to root, make a backup, copy that backup yo PC, then unlock boot loader and flash a new rom. If u don't like it, there always that backup you can restore. Too easy to sit around and complain when there are alternatives
I'm always finding things that don't work on custom kernels and it drives me insane!! I'll try to show someone something cool, and it takes me 15 minutes just to get it working, then I just look stupid because the rom I have isn't compatible with ___, or it's missing ___ (fill in the blank)
Yeah, they are fun to play with, and it's nice to have the cool mods & tweaks that come with them, but when you want your phone to "just work" then there's nothing better than a nice stable official rom that does everything you throw at it. speed & extra performance is great, but stability and compatibility outweigh those every single time, imho

I can't help but agree that ota is most stable But I feel the same way as you. Stability first. Yet I myself am not suffering from any issue. I find my self surround by multiple galaxy nexus owners daily and I am showing them stuff w my oG. Vice versa, just throwing it out there. I have been lucky when I have been flashing phones, many many manyphones hahaha. They all take well to me. I hate a screwed up glitchy phone

Wow! Where did all the new Development come from

Hi everyone,
I only pop in from time to time to check on Vibrant development for someone else. It's only been a few months but last time I left, the CM7 roms weren't fully working. Now there seems to be 100% complete ICS roms.
That's great new for everyone. I'm just curious what was the break though that helped? Samsung released more source code? Inside leak of a in house ICS build?
SgsII and.nexus s icses helped i think.. theres also.a.leak for another gsI i think...
But.mostly.we jjust have kickass devs

ICS Passion started us off. Neobuddy used the source from Nexus S (ithink) and built a ALPHA>BETA>STABLE ROM, after which more ROMS started showing up but they were pretty much Passion. Then CM9 showed up. AOKP showed up. Now we actually have a diversity of ROMS to choose rom.
This phone is great, thanks devs.
Its amazing, here we were waiting for a decent GB rom to come around and before you know it, ICS Roms as stable and good as froyo start popping up. Seems very few phones have ICS roms this good.

Yes, this is the first phone that I've been pleased with performance out of the box, and I even, dare I say it, LIKE TOUCHWIZ! I did root it, but only to use adfree, lol, that's the silliest reason I've ever rooted a phone for, but Samsungs are so easy to return to stock & T mobile never checks the binary flash counyso I'm not worried. I hate ads that are in apps! When we do get an AOSP rom ill flash then, but as crazy as it sounds, it better be as fast as touchwiz or ill be going back to stock, haha. Samsung hit the nail on the head with this one, and touchwiz has alot of convenient features in it. Imagine if they would've rolled it out with vanilla android, and the added motion control, and other Samsung apps that are pretty cool? If samsung makes this year's nexus, it's gonna be off the hook with hardware like this!
Worked like a charm.
I picked up my Verizon pre-order today and am super happy with it. It's a great upgrade over my old Epic 4G (and the bump from wimax to lte speeds is worth the extra monthly cost of the carrier switch)
I've always purchased the galaxy series year after year, and this time Samsung has delivered with stock performance! Though I also like the new touchwiz, it's more "complete" than other launchers

This thread is about the evo 4g and what you guys experienced with it like your favorite roms,kernel,etc..
Most people are leaving sprint because poor data quality but people don't know that sprint is taking them down for better quality faster speeds and possibly 4G LTE in your area.

I once got a day and a half on an MIUI ROM and still had 56% remaining....
And on the classic ROM, I once went 23 hours and managed to have 90% left. Buuuut, I have a new record, I've been on the same ROM for 3 days now. So far so good

Haha I was about to PM u or something because just reading it made me think my rom is nothing compared to that with beats and everything I might as well use that instead of my rom with a few tweaks.
Lemme just update my post

As long as I ran MIUI and as much as I love the ICS ROMs and can't go back, the best ROM ever was Koni Elite Series III with NetArchy-Toast 4.3.2 SBC Havs More Kernel.
EVERYTHING worked. Everything.
Battery life was unreal. I once tested to see how long I could go without a recharge and posted screen shots of 63 hours before I died.
Mason kernels are great, but the Netarchy kernels were incredible on battery life. I've never come close to that on any GB or ICS ROM.
BTW, most people are not leaving Sprint

Oh my I do miss my HTC EVO 4G. I got my first one on January 1st 2011. I drove to my nearest Sprint store hungover to all hell and being able to play with it was probably the only thing that made the hangover better.
Hmm let's see my EVO stats:
Favorite old-school hack:
*I got S-Off using UnrEVOked before it was Revolutionary
Best firmware:
*My best ROM/kernel combo was MikFroYo 4.61 using Netarchy 4.3.4 sbc-cfs-havs-more. I got 34 hours of battery life out of it.
PIcs or it didn't happen right? here's the pic
Favorite Memory:
*I hung out in the #htc-evo-4g channel on freenode for like 18 hours a day. I remember getting to test Myn's Synergy ROM before it was actually released.
Funniest moment:
I was dating someone at the time who was trying to break up with me, but I was flashing a ROM so she wasn't able to get a hold of me. So, she waited another month to do it. I got to bang her several more times before she finally pulled the trigger (she didn't have the guts to do it in person). So, flashing a ROM has actually gotten me laid. I'm with a much better woman now though
Worst moment:
I sold my EVO to Best Buy for $170 in order to purchase the Epic Touch on release day. I should've waited and kept the EVO 4G, I miss it. The great thing is I didn't bother to unhack it first, so when the Best Buy rep saw my custom splash screen, boot animation and that I was running a non-Sense ROM, he didn't ask any questions.
Dumbest moment:
I flashed a kernel that was from a different base than the ROM I was running and I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why my camera wouldn't work.
Greatest moment:
I had that phone for 11 months before I traded it in, more than twice the time I've spent owning any other Android phone. RIP lil buddy!

HAHA I LOVE THOSE MOMENTS u made my morning I was flashing a rom when my friend she was telling me something bcuz she would tell me stuff then get to important stuff so I was like waiting for my rom to finish and the g apps and the MANSON kernel and she asked me on a date which is awkward for me bcuz I alwayz asked girls and my ex pretty much made me not go on a date with her because she was emotionaly hurt and i had to be there and i which of course I would pay for the whole set up for the date like a gentleman then I'm screwed
Because they both now have boyfriends and I'm just siting here forever available(more like alone) about to flash the rom ss_ultra.

Hahahah!!! I'm obsessive, so, I'm 17, and had a 19 year old girl (crazy, but hot) trying to get at me, I flashed a ROM when she was texting me, and she wanted me to come over (we literally live 50 feet away) and I actually waited 15 minutes before I responded to let the ROM settle, and by the time I responded, I was too late D:
Oh, and, enjoy my ROM!! well.. the one I took over. :good:
