Without root your internet speed will be the exact same as with root. You won't experience more crashed with or without..
You could try to use a VPN, but that probably won't work either. Just live by the rules of your college.
It's called network filtering and QoS, there's no such bs that rooting or not rooting affects your device speed.
hi please replay
The program runs on a rooted phone?

Currently my nexus is rooted and i am using my go to ad-blocker of adfree.
Now i want to unroot back to stock in order to use sky go... But i dont think i can face life on an internet enabled device without an adblock.
Is there anyway to use an adblocker without root?

i dont think so..
Can't you update the hosts files then unroot? Just root every few weeks to update host files again.

You can try adblock plus. It's like a glorified proxy, all of your Internet usage goes through the app first, which blocks ads before anything loads on your end.
It worked great at first, but lately I've been having trouble getting anything to work with it. A lot of errors acting like I have no Internet connection. I just disable the app and all is fine again. But give it a try, it might work great for you. Not many bad reviews in play store

If you dont plan on staying rooted, why dont you just delete your hosts file and replace it with a symlink to, say, "/data/local/tmp/hosts". Then you can unroot and still be able to update your hosts file.
Firefox Browser app has the Adblock+ add-on for Internet browsing. This hides most ads without root. I also like its master password to protect any stored passwords.

That is only for the Web browser, and rooting and unrooting every week or so might work

I had to disable AdBlock Plus on my nexus 7 because it was blocking some of my websites.

I am on stock ROM and not feeling comfortable changing stock rom. I am on family value plan with t-mobile and had hotspot plan and usb tethring was working fine. Last month I bought nexus 4 and continued with hotspot plan but last week I removed my hotspot plan and USB tethering was working fine for 3/4 days on my 2 GB - $10 plan. But today it diverts me to t-mobile page when I try to visit page through usb tethering. So I guess somehow they track down my tethering. Is there anyway I can use tethring again without adding hotspot plan?
Thanks.
I had this happen. Yeah they detected you. I got around it by using a different web browser (Firefox). They seem to detect and block you based on your user agent. So you may be able to just change your browser's user agent. Eventually you'll be able to go back to your old browser (not sure how long I had to wait). So you can probably bounce between Firefox and Chrome to avoid it

Can you sneak past by going through a VPN?

What was suggest above with fire fox and user agents seems to work.
I personally have tethered using t mobile's 30 dollar plan to my nexus 7 and google TV when my home internet went out and never had a problem because it shows all the data is from android device.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give a try.
Changing a browser user agent helps but might break some sites. The best way to go at it is to set up a VPN I use Private Internet Access with good results.
If I root my phone gs4, does that mean I can use hotspot for free? Or is free hotspot usually included in the rom?

try searching
As W7 said. This is such and old question. Do yourself a favor and find the answer yourself.

Rooting your phone allows you to install software that you otherwise wouldn't be able to, due to carrier or device software limitations.
IF you root your phone, there are a large number of hotspot apps that you can install that will provide a hotspot for you. ROM's are usually just a collection of software (with the occasional performance tweak) that you can install. 99 times out of 100, ROM authors have merely borrowed someone else's hotspot app and packaged it in with the rest of the apps that they like. So no, you do not need to install a ROM just to install a hotspot app.
<Necessary Legalese> Keep in mind though, that if you cannot install a hotspot app and one was not provided on your phone, it's likely against the terms of service from your carrier.
I've done the searching and I realize this might be old, but I've been using hotspot with my gs4 for free and I don't have any hotspot apps. I'm running pacman but id like to play with other ROMs, just don't want to lose my free hotspot ability.

the vast majority of roms have wireless tether built in. if you find one that dosent then there are multiple apps to make the feature avaliable.

Hello,
I got a Nexus 10 for my mom after her PC broke down. Since we are seperated by many kilometers and she has trouble to follow instruction how to fix / to do stuff on the phone I want some visual and input control.
Actually I need an app that allows me to control her tablet from long distance. I check Teamviewer Quicksupport but there you can only do screenshots, there is no full life control for the nexus 10 in Teamviewer as far as I have understood. Can anyone please recommend something? I wanted to ship the tablet on monday, so fast help is appreciated in advance.
btw. I dont care if I control the tablet from my windows pc or my nexus 4 android phone. I just need a solution. :/
Hmm, I can't seem to find an app for that either. Rare occasion I guess. What you could do is program Tasker to do a service like that for you... you'll need her tablet to be rooted. You'll need root no matter the solution.
If you don't know about Tasker it's a really nice app for developers/techy people to automate/add tweaks/features on your phone. This will be a really advanced implementation though. It's surely possible and it'd be easier for me to develop it for you than to explain it. You'll need your own web domain though. I mean one that you have for yourself, where you could place a php script.
Hopefully that helps or gives some insight at least, if you need my help I could develop that setup for you. You'll need to root her tablet yourself tho.

So there exists really no solution for that issue?
Have not tried it on a nexus 10 but I can fully remote control my note 3 using Teamviewer.

Root her Nexus and install a VNC server app. VNC Server by onecent in the Play Store worked for me (sorry can't link, too new). Then just use a client on either your phone or computer to connect. You will probably need to set up port forwarding on her router to connect remotely. Hopefully you're not too far since you'll likely have to visit her to get that and rooting done. Good luck.
