Hi, I much prefer the email application for Exchange that is on my Nexus 10 to the one on my AT&T Galaxy S4. My GS4 is on MF3 firmware, so while I can root, I cannot simply flash the Google Edition ROM (although I would prefer to). I attempted to replace the email app on my phone with the one from a Google Edition ROM, but it doesn't work. Here's what I tried:
Remove SecEmail_J.apk and .odex from /system/app
Remove SecExchange.apk and .odex from /system/app
Copied Email.apk to /system/app (from GE 4.2.2 ROM)
Copied Exchange2.apk to /system/app (from GE 4.2.2 ROM)
chmod 644 on both files
reboot
Unfortunately, I do not see an Email app in my apps list. If I try to run the .apk from the /system/app folder manually, it asks if I want to install the application, but then fails with "application not installed".
Any ideas? Is what I'm doing possible?
Thanks in advance!
Are the apk permissions set to rw-r-r
Yep

I installed a modded version of contacts.apk that allowed it to show the faces next to the contact's name. I did not like it that much so I removed it. Long story short I deleted the contacts.apk from /system/app and I copied the original contacts.apk back to /system/app. I rebooted and it still does not see Contacts.apk (Dialer/calling does not work) I also tried doing "install /sdcard/Contacts.apk /system/app/Contacts.apk" and it still did not recognize it.
What am I suppose to do? By the way I also have the original Contacts.apk in the root of my sdcard if that would help in you telling me the commands to run
Thanks in advance!!
I originally tried the Fascinate on Verizon and for some reason I just liked the Daily Briefing App (many here do). So after doing some searching here and there, I figured it out. This is de-0dexed APK from the Captivate dump:

from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9277432&postcount=9
The file is called InfoAlarm.apk and is under /system/app in the ZIP, I also
ATTACHED it to this thread.
Of course you have to be rooted. Simply copy the APK to your SDcard then use Root Explorer (supposedly Droid explorer works) to move the APK to
/system/app folder. Reboot the phone. No need to change permissions.
Then simply add the widget under Samsung Widgets
Could somebody possibly give me instructions to install this on the G3 please.

I have been trying all day but Tw3oLauncher.apk(or whatever) Keeps recreating it's self.
Thanks.
YOU NEED TO HAVE ROOTED PHONE.I JUST FOUND THIS I HAVENT TRY IT SO IM NOT RESPONSE FOR BRICKING YOUR PHONE
Use root explorer(you can find it on Market)
1. In /system/app, rename the default TouchWiz30Launcher.apk and TouchWiz30Launcher.odex (if applicable) to TouchWiz30Launcher.apk.bak and TouchWiz30Launcher.odex.bak.
2. Copy this new TouchWiz30Launcher.apk into /system/app.
3. Set permissions of the new TouchWiz30Launcher.apk to rw-r--r--.
I thing that touchWiz launcher on our phone is different (in name)
.

id suggest having another launcher on the phone while doing this, just in case.
It's because that's treated like a system app. You either have to push it with adb or move it with root explorer and give the application root priveleges. I made a guide on how to reinstall APKs that are system level apks.

I updated my n7 to 4.3 on Thursday and everything was great. I'd had the 4.2.1 aosp browser installed, but tried to install an updated 4.3 browser. It would force close. when I uninstalled the update the 4.2.1 browser which previously worked, will only force close.
I've tried flashable .zip installations, I've tried pushing the apps to system/apps, setting permissions, and rebooting. I've tried just installing the app. none of these work.
I have browserproviderproxy.apk and .odex renamed to .bak.
please, any help is appreciated.
Try aosp browser installer from the market. Worked for me on 4.3.

I renamed the Browser.apk (asop from N4 I think) by adding a .bak extension on it before flashing the 4.3 update. Also renamed the browserproviderproxy files back to .apk and .odex. After completing the update, I renamed things back, rebooted, asop browser working great, just like before.

going to try this! thanks. (pressed thanks BTW...)
I've tried every way I know of to try and swap the stock browser on MDL with the stock browser from MJ6 or MJ9. I can't get either to work...
Has anyone made this work? its such an improvement...
Have you tried pasting the apk to the /system/app folder, fixing permissions, installing then rebooting?

I'm on an odexed stock ROM, but yes. I've tried the browser apk and odex file, just the apk file, and even the popup apk and odex files. can't get any combination of them to work.
it installs, shows up in my app drawer but crashes on launch.
