Just picked up a Snap. (Euro model)
The top row keys (menu keys, home, back, etc..) make a funny sound when I click them. They feel very "wrong". It sounds like it makes a click before I actually push it all the way in. So there is a sorta plastic-y double-click sound.
I rushed back to the store and the guy opened another box to compare and that was making the same noise too. He suggested it's new and will break in with time. (The display model was good but it has been "broken in" by a lot of customers.)
(QWERTY part of keyboard is fine.)
I'm inclined to think BOTH phones had a problem and it makes me feel uncomfortable.
I had a similar experience with a laptop's touchpad button once and it got worse over time. So this is why I'm pessimistic.
Has anyone else had this problem/issue?

Well it's good to know.... but also sad news because apparently HTC screwed up something.
After using mine for 24 hours the problem was worsening so I just returned it to the store.
I don't know how old is yours (and if it's getting better or worse), maybe you can also return it?
I didn't get another one because frankly I was not awed by the Snap.
Coming from an Excalibur (S620) and based on specs I was expecting to be blown away by the performance of Snap.
But with 3VOLUTION's latest 6.5 ROM on my trusty (and beaten) Excalibur I could not see any improvement. (minus, of course, 3G and GPS)
Maybe I will buy another Snap in the future but going to wait until this hardware issue gets acknowledged/fixed.
PS. It is important to point out, the phone they had on display -abused by a lot of people- was PERFECT. Strange.
@an.ghezzi - please let me know the age of your phone and how this issue develops over time.
i've bought the snap just a week ago and the problem is always here.
not worse, not better. let's wait, maybe someone can tell us what's wrong.

PS. the "funny sound" came only from the "call" and "home" buttons. the others sounds ok...
Just an update.
I picked up a second Snap a couple of weeks ago. Tried the keys in the store and they were not perfect but almost.
Lately I'm getting pissed off with them again. They are just as bad as the first one was. And I know this is a minor problem - probably not even a problem for most people - but I get so frustrated by it. This damn thing feels so cheap. Cheap crap plastic. My Excalibur is 3 years old but still rocking stronger.
I'm not happy.
Same with me. I have a T-Mobile Dash 3G and was wondering why this was happening. It's happening on my left softkey button and home button. I'm gonna take it back to T-Mobile on Tuesday.
Yeah I'm very pissed about this. This new phone (second one, after returning first) is just sitting in my drawer and I'm back on my Excalibur. Squeaky cheap plastic is my pet peeve.
Unfortunately I'm through the 14 days return so I'm stuck with it.
I have one of the first HTC Dash 3G's, got it from Customer service before they were even available for sale online or stores, I have no problems with the buttons what-so-ever, no clicking, just smooth presses. I wonder if there was a shoddy batch that went through to some areas.
Try some rubbing alcohol
On my Ozone, I've noticed a bit of trouble with a few of the keys on the top row feeling spongy. I used a alcohol wipe to kind of loosen up the keys which worked great. I also had noticed the battery cover recently started creaking, so I tore a business card in half and placed it over the battery, which tightened that right up.

Now i know why there are less stocks of snap in asia! i have the same soft key problem, even after one to one exchange! am really disappointed with htc on this, not sure how many others have this problem and if there is anything we can do to fix this? maybe even take it apart??? arghhh...
I ended up selling my second Snap too.
Besides the sticky keys I just did not like it :-/
ookba's custom ROM made it a lot nicer but I just could not get used to the device. Yes the keyboard looks great but the overall design is odd (screen too small compared to the whole unit), it just did not feel balanced.
I have a bad feeling about the fate of the "standard" WinMo (non-touch) edition. The new professional devices are getting nicer. They need to get a new finger friendly OS and a proper capacitive touch screen - once they do that, non-touch will go extinct.
I guess it took me until now to see how Microsoft ignored mobile development for so long. What was killer technology in 2006 is just a mess by now.
I still love my Excalibur, I dare to say it was the best phone I ever had.
Here is how I imagine the perfect phone: Blackberry makes the hardware. Ookba joins Microsoft and they release WinMo 8, or so. XDA community builds GUI.
I really wonder how many people are facing this issue... sigh.
So far, it seems its happening all over the world. I have tested and changed 3units. The current one is a bit better ... at least the call button does not creaks as much. But I miss the e71 in terms of built quality. I was hoping there is some hack we can perform to fix this.

I bought my HTC Snap from Singapore. Experienced the same "weird" feeling, but only on the Call (Green) and End (Red) buttons.
Seems to be getting a tiny bit better after using it for a week (or maybe i've become accustomed haha)
Agree with you on the screen proportion thingy. I still love my old E61. Keyboard + Screen was spacious and lovely. Fast forward a few years and this is the best HTC could come up with?

Okay, so I've had a few Heros and sent them all back apart from the one I have now. The main reason for returning 5 Heros so far, was the quality of the screen. Basically there was dust under the screen. I initially thought it was stuck pixels but I'm now certain it's dust.
Dust is visible during the boot animation. It looks like stuck pixels; really bright little points of light. The reason they're visible during the boot animation is because for some reason, the backlight is up full when the phone boots. This will highlight little specks of dust which may not necessarily be visible at other times.
Now, I've noticed another type of dust speck. This kind is visible when the phone is off, or in sleep mode. This type of dust speck is lit by ambient light, so it is visible only when the screen is off, or showing a black image etc, in bright daylight.
So logically, this would lead me to believe that there are at least 2 layers of screen into which dust can find its way and consequently show itself up differently; either highlighted by the screen backlight (like during the boot animation) or highlighted against the screen by ambient light.
When I got the Hero I'm currently using, I was glad to have finally received one with no screen dust. 2 days later, and I have 2 specks of dust, one of each type, both on the left hand side of the screen. This is B.S. because I'm obsessive about screen imperfections, and if dust is getting in now then what's it gonna look like in a month, or 10 months?
Why do HTC have such bad quality control? Or why have they made a screen that isn't sealed so any dust, lint or any other pocket sh*t combination thereof can get inside and irritate the hell out of me? This makes HTC look like amateurs. My SE P1 has sat in my pocket for 2 years and still has a visibly perfect screen.
I am now considering disassembling the handset to impliment my own cleaning and sealing of the internals. Does anyone know if there exists in circulation a technical manual for the Hero?
I had a feeling they weren't hot/dead pixels - 'cos they're only noticable to me when I adjust the viewing angle and blast my brightness up to full and on a black screen/image.
I think it should be accepted that the phone is a load of crap and that it's not going to be able to live up to what was promised.

Its actually a cracking phone despite some teething problems and i have had some, many people have had NO problems at all.
Its NEVER sensible to buy any new product when it first comes out as you often get initial 1st production run issues, especially in complex devices
so your basically talking out of your crack
My Nokia E71 had the same problem. The screen (what you think is the screen) is a protective glass/plastic sheet and the dust can get behind it (between it and the lcd). I only got it sorted when the dust built up so bad and it took the repair shop about 15 minutes to fix.

No need to be rude.
On topic, I'm not sure how many more things need to be wrong with this handset before you'd agree with me. Aside from the all the hardware faults being reported people are recommending turning off widgets and apps (what's the point in multitasking if it takes twice as long?) and deleting parts of the OS to get it to run at something approaching smoothly. I know there are updates due but right now pretty much anything you want to do with the phone seems to be flawed. (funnily enough I'd finished typing the "anything" before my phone displayed "a" on the sceen).
Fair enough if you're loving it (though I could uncharitably say who cares what you think) but there's no way I'd recommend this phone to a friend.
I think you should accept that your talking crap, go on any site about any new tech and people are slagging it off this works that doesnt etc etc.
You will also find lots of people saying its great.
Now your backtracking on your own post , what if the update makes its great your going to look an even bigger twat than you look now.
Phone has been barely out a couple of months

tatwamasi, I know you are right with some points about the hardware faults and all but i guess ( i wont say i think ...lol) that every new phone that comes out at one point has them.
Buying a product just after its release is a risk to take if you know what i mean but hey who cares as long as the warantee is there
anyway, i think the htc hero is a great phone. Its just that many of us had high expectations. too much maybe. Many of us complain of the lag and stuff... so far i havent used any smartphone without one. of course you might mention the "iphone" to me but let me just say that i prefer a laggy phone with the capability of running applications on the background than a smooth one without the multitask capab.
Like spacecat said, i am sure there'll be an update to fix these things.

Let me know of a product that doesn't live up to what was promised. Oh and please explain your meaning of 'promised'
Can I be the ref here and step in with some points that can't really be denied.
1. Dust under screen: Unacceptable. Heard of quality control? Shoddy screen manufacture is fine, even expected in a handset from Tesco that costs £10. Not in the £400 HTC Android flagship.
2. Screen gap. Also unacceptable. I don't even need to explain why.
3. Early adoption = expect problems. I disagree. This is true in practice but not in principle. I didn't pay £400 to be a beta tester. If you can't get the tolerances/design/software sorted out for the first batch then don't sell any until you do.
I'll be the first to say that the Hero is one of the best handsets out there if not THE best, but these little manufacturing issues are a huge fail.

Since over a month I want to buy the HTC Hero. At different shops I checked about 7 or 8 devices - all had at list a single dust spot under the screen.
Completely agree with you, that is unacceptable. It doesn't take much in the manufacturing process to secure a dust-free environment.
So, as long as HTC is not able to provide a dust-free screen, I won't buy a HTC device.
I'll have another look at a new shipment when my dealer calls me. That will be it.
Dust under the screen is very irritating especially in bright daylight.
My eyes get fixated on it, can't help it! How much easer can life be for others who just don't care or just don't see it.

Well i have no dust under the screen. ( touch wood touch gold) . Maybe because the protective shield i applied on my screen goes slightly beyond the screen, thus covering the gaps and everthing. It is hardly noticable if u ask me.

For most peoples' cases, the dust was there before they received the phone - i.e. during the manufacturing process. For me, the dust is not such a big deal as it's not causing any problems with my day-to-day usage. Only when the dust starts to cause dead pixels, will I worry. But for now, I'm loving my Hero (even more so, now with Paul's latest 1.4.1 custom ROM) to bits!

Fact is when a phone comes out for the first month it isn't really what anyone expects, phones are always hyped up to be more than they are, or how would they sell? Happened with the Touch HD, Touch Pro, Touch Diamond, Touch Pro 2, heck, it was even with the iPhone for much much longer till Apple pulled their finger out.
The recent update from MoDaCo (1.4.1) has vastly improved things, and this isn't even the official update and its only the 1st update.
This phone lives up to my expectations because I was on earth, not somewhere out there drifting in space.
There are still issues with the phone, but like with all custom roms, they address the problems. Thanks Paul and all the developers / users out here who are feeding back problems to HTC and then fixing them for us great owners.
Oh, back on Topic. I had one spec which only showed on startup, but its gone now so I guess it was just dust. I wasn't bothered though, couldn't tell it was there in use.
Oh come on, worst reception of any handset I've ever had (across 5 separate Heroes) and build quality standards through the floor are the hallmarks of the Hero in my experience.
That's not taking into account the software issues (which I could stomach knowing that there's an update on the way).
Sorry if those things are to be expected, it's just that I've never had so many issues with a handset, but apparently it's standard? Oh well, welcome to your world then, I guess I should expect nothing to work when I buy it and hope it gets sorted later. It's unfortunate that this has been my introduction it's just that previously, everything did just work! (With the exception of the crappy camera on my W960i, that was much better after the update).
I appreciate that people feel some kind of bizarre emotional attachment to their purchases but I don't get why they'd say "I happened to get a good one so it doesn't matter! You have no right to be disappointed" when the issues are real and out there.
Perhaps it was naive of me to expect my text messages to arrive, for video playback to work and for me to be able to make phone calls on my phone (especially when the same SIM delivers decent reception in the same spot in another phone) but it does significantly diminish the experience for me. Camera's better than I thought it'd be, I'll give it that.
Either way, I'm not crying about it and my comment was meant to be flippant. Allowing myself to see my phone as a piece of crap that isn't going to work properly has given me the opportunity to chill out about it and not get annoyed. It's just a phone, oh well. I was hoping it'd be able to replace my iPod but I guess it won't be able to.
And that is how I made peace with the Hero. With any luck the significant issues in software will be sorted in the update. Until they are, I don't think I could possibly recommend it though and right now, I think I should have got an iPhone. C'est la vie.

I had initial issues LED failure, but it has since been repaired and the video playback is poor.
Otherwise im loving it , great form factor/design balance between screensize and phone size.
internet is superb on the browser and tethered to my laptop,
phone calls and messaging/emails work great and im lovin the apps and market place.
Love the customisable 7 screens no lag that i have noticed.
Best phone i have ever had YES perfect NO but what is..... if the update improves the video i dont know how i could fault it right now

Hold my hands up on that one, I thought you were only talking about software issues, not hardware, so I apologise.
I completely understand where you are coming from regarding hardware, seems HTC have had issues on a couple of their latest phones, Diamond 2, Pro 2.
I had a Touch Pro 2 and after the 5th, I gave up and got a refund. The hinges were loose, faulty, slack. The screen had actual dead pixels. Keyboards faulty. Screen loose.
Other than moving back to my Touch HD which was perfect in every way (after having custom rom made, and it really needed Windows Mobile 7 to make it perfect), I thought the Hero was the next step.
Hardware wise, for me, it is. It is perfectly built, feels solid in my hand, screen nice and clear, reception perfect for me (same as all other HTC devices I've had and my iPhone 3g).
I know some people have had major issues with phones and the majority seem to be the people with Orange's Graphite branded phones, gaps in screens, poor reception etc and it must be certain production lines causing the issue.
Hopefully more roms coming out will make the software spot on, but as for hardware, they all need sending back as £400 is a lot for a phone, like I said about the Touch Pro 2, when your paying that much for a phone you expect it to be perfect (hardware).
Aside from the hardware, there is so much achieved in this latest update from MoDaCo (1.5) and more and more software on the Market everyday, software will be 110% in the near future.

As you may have read before, I was really complaining because of the poor voicecall quality, screen alignment with the plastic cover and many other flaws. I have replaced my device twice and got each time a different problem. I decided not to give up...
Today, I got my 4th HD2 and the earpiece problem is GONE!!
The first thing I did was to have a look at the screen. It is perfectly flush/aligned with the cover. It used to be either deeper somewhere at the corners or higher.
The problem with the light sensor doesn't exist anymore and after more than 12 hours of extensive testing, I can say I don't have any problem with machine anymore. Finally a flawless HD2.
One thing I've noticed ( because I'm used to register all my devices the 1st day I buy it ) that the serial number is almost the same as the 1st device having too many problems, the difference is like 372 only and the 4th HD2 is even older than all the previous handsets ( Manufacture date: 2nd of Nov. 2009 )
I believe that this is not a problem with some specific affected batches. IMHO, it is random...

I didn't follow your previous thread. Do you have a summary on the problems you encountered and may I ask how you proceeded with your reclamation? Was it directly with HTC or through your vendor?
I also notice that my screen isn't perfectly aligned with the cover, it's a bit of gap to the top right, whereas on the top left i don't feel any gap. This doesn't kill me but if there are handsets that are perfectly made, I want one when I'm paying this much money. I also encounter sparkling sounds when talking, specially when using the speaker.

Actually I was forced to sell the devices because they refused to consider the problems as well known... I lost around 100 Euros but got a good device after all... you know we all like perfectionism
Some of the problems like I mentioned :
-The screen not correctly aligned with the plastic cover
-Crackling and noisy earpiece when making voicecalls
-Very loose hardware keys and buttons. They are not rock solid now but way better
-Light sensor behavior was somehow weird. Doesn't always work, dont ask me why
- Screen jitters like the ones posted on youtube.

Yes, so as to be perfectly aligned after applying the screen protector. I installed mine two days ago and now the screen is perfectly aligned.

It's a glass screen, no protector is required. Most HD2 screens are flush with the rubber/plastic sides - there isn't a recess, I would say the ones that aren't flush are manufacturing defects.
I've had 2 HD2s so far and both have the earpiece issue. The 2nd had what felt like poor fitting keys initially, but over the week I've had the phone they've bedded in nicely and now have perfect feel.
I'm just going to put up with the earpiece quality for now, it's not perfect but I'm sure future ROMs will reduce the volume which should be a good start.

Im loving mine Im not as much as a noob as I was when I first posted a month or so ago, where I got flamed
I think I only have the two following problems:
-The screen not correctly aligned with the plastic cover
-Crackling and noisy earpiece when making voicecalls
The buttons are a bit loose but I didn't even notice that before someone else told me about it.
But I totally agree with you, I'm also a perfectionist, but I doubt I'll make any effort beyond contacting the support and see what happens. Specially the bad sound quality.
Oh well, I'm glad you finally found a nice piece. Take care of it now, don't drop it or scratch it

You seem to have gone through quite a few devices so, if you don't mind me asking, does your device have a rattle in the head of the device. I have got replies from quite a few people saying it is normal, but a few also don't have it. It's really starting to annoy me, I thought I'd live with it, but not sure I can now. Shaking the device hardly makes a sound, however, tapping it lightly near the camera gives me a big rattle.

My phone has a rattle toward the head area, and upon close examination, it appears to come from the camera at the top ofthe phone.
Since our phone doesn't havevs fixed focus lens, I'm assuming the rattle noise isthe autofocus mechanism.Therefore the noise is perfectly normal in my opinion.
Actually i think you are a bit too paranoic. That's fine, was same with me when I bought it and I think with everyone else. This feeling comes away after 1-2 months of actually using the phone rather than staring at it as at faberge egg from 2cm away everyday to find a scratch or a piece of dustd
p.s. - hardware keys are made that way for a reason and every hd2 has them the same way
NO actually mine doesnt ratltle but I discovered I got a faulty screen with the 4th device... shaking screen/cardio/untyped keys... the screen starts acting weird sometimes. IMO the last device is the worst as the noise problem during phone conversation wasn't solved and the distortion is so much annoying....
**** HTC, I am sorry to say it but nothing more to be expected from a device Made in Taiwan...

My first HTC HD2 got broken and I've changed it, bought another HTC HD2.
Noticed that its build quality is really excellent compared to my old HD2 (that was one of the first produced), I've only had some weird problems with the touchscreen like yours, but I've solved it pressing it in the four HD2 angles: now the screen is more IN the device housing in the top right angle, but all of my digitizer problems are now solved.
Now my HTC HD2 is perfect.
Try with that.
Ouh, and remember that the noise in conversation can be a ROM problem!
Mine had too, but updating to the newer TMOUS radios I don't have it anymore!
Just software/network problems
And.. don't be paranoic, the PERFECT thing doesn't exist (talking of the rattle..)!

And no.. Nokia is made in Finland and some other European countries including Germany. You can guess that by looking at the serial number that's why you get what you pay for...
Sony low end laptops are made in china but high end ones are made in Japan like the S/Z/T series... You see, you pay for a top notch device that much of money expecting it to be almost fault free. With HTC you never know, it's all about luck.
It makes me laugh reading how many people here got a faulty handset. When someone states a problem experienced with his heaset, the first answer is " seems you got a faulty device"
For god's sake a fault should not affect more than 0.5% of the devices.. but with HTC, it's like a feature; each client gets a different problem with the hardware. I can't tolerate the polls results.. Like the one with Weird touch screen behavior and issues. More than 55% have a buggy screen.. I know that it's not a case study nor a realistic accurate interpretation but it gives you a clear idea about what's going on.
I swear on my mother's life that this device( including all the previous 3 ) has the worst call quality a handset could produce. Believe me everytime I make/get a call I start blaspheming. I burned more than 1000$ on this device but thanks I took the lesson.
I still have my HD which is almost flawless compared to this product but slow as hell.
Don't mention iphone and apple things as I'm not apple fan-boy

This is not a repair center thus not a fuel station, its a poll where anybody looking for applications/tweaks/discussion participates so your " joke" is irrelevant
A couple weeks ago I got a new myTouch 3g with 3.5mm jack from T-Mobile. I had a lot of issues with it, including it spontaneously unmounting from my computer when trying to copy files to it, the speaker suddenly ceasing to work, vibrate seemingly turning itself off at it's leisure. Pretty annoying, so, I exchanged it. I'm having the same issues. I'm irritated. It doesn't have the gorgeous hardware spec to make it worth the trouble I'm having. I've tried different cords, different micro SD cards (including class 6) and haven't stopped having these issues. So, I'm going to exchange the phone and get an HD2.
I've read up on all the forums about it, and I understand that WM is not the most intuitive/trouble free mobile OS out of the box, but I'm confident that I can tweak it enough to my liking and be happy with it. The HD2's magic hardware makes me think it'll be worth it.
I've tried all the phone platforms except WM up to this point, including Android, iPhone (all gens), blackberry OS, and WebOS.
My favorite is WebOS, but there's no hardware out there yet to make it worth it to use it. I've tried the Pre, and there are too many hardware issues, including the dreaded Oreo Twist, plus the battery life was absolutely horrible. It's smaller sister, the Pixi, is too underpowered and the screen is too small. However, the OS itself is a thing of magic. It works great, has tons of polish, is very intuitive (I never knew I needed a gesture area until I had one), and is very open to hacks and tweaks. When someone can put WebOS on the HD2 my mobile life will be complete, that is until the next best thing comes out. Maybe a 5 inch screen?
Anyway, getting back on track. I'm excited that I'll soon be joining all of the wondrous HD2 discussions once I have my almost tablet phone in my hands.

Good luck with your HD2 and welcome to the forums. My HD2 is my 8th WinMo device.... WinMo is the most versatile and customizable mobile os out there, but it does take some learning and tweaking to get it the way you want. After my Athena with a 5inch screen, I got spoiled and used to having a big screen. I had a raphael after that, but that screen was to small after having a 5" screen, so I'm happy to be back on a device with a big screen again. You definitely have trouble going back to a small screen after using devices with nice big screens.

The only heads-up I could offer other than what you'll find (and have found) through careful reading here, is to be prepared for the step from a resistive screen to a capacitive one...that difference will have as much impact in your experience as the size of the screen does. It's not a bad thing, but I might suggest you start now getting used to having your thumb hover about 2mm higher above the screen than you're in the habit of now

Thanks everyone! Although I'm pretty sure the myTouch3G actually does use a capacitive touch screen, it's not nearly as responsive as I noticed the demo unit HD2's were.

Correct...The MT3G does have a capacitive touch screen.
The screen on the HD2 is far too responsive IMO and most will agree...there is a program called BSB tweaks that you will want to put on your HD2 that allows your to do a lot of stuff that is not available in the default settings(decreasing the screen sensitivity is one of them).
I as well had a MT3G just before moving to the HD2, and while I still hold a special place in my heart for all of the old devices in my closet (Even my iPhones)...I couldnt see replacing my HD2 with anything that is currently on the market.

Do to some over zealous clicking, I've managed to order both the Omnia 7 and Trophy phones. I'm going to send one of them back (unopened, so I can get my money back!), but the question is, which?
I know its a loaded question on this forum, but I'd be grateful for any advice.
My potential issues with the Omnia are:
1. There seems to be many more reports of faulty Omnia units than Trophy ones. It that your experience?
2. Samsung have a bad rep when it comes to updates, and the latest debacle with NoDo doesn't ease my mind. In your estimation, once they sort themselves out, does you see the upgrade to Mango going smoothly? (or even happening at all?)
3. Does the unit scratch easily? I have a Desire at the moment, and that has completely resisted all the abuse I've subjected it to and looks as good as new.
4. Is the power button placement really annoying?
By way of background, I've arrived at WP7 after long experience with iOS and Android, and I've fully researched WP7 - so I know that I will be happy with current functionality, though of course, I'm looking forward to future Mango goodness

Not really, I've heard of a lot of Trophys that froze or restart themselves but that should be gone with the firmware updates I think.
With the Omnia 7 I have just heard some reports of dead pixels but mine has been fine and is running without problems for months now.

Nobody knows what the future brings, but I'm confident that the problems they had are now sorted out and will not affect the Mango-update. BTW I didn't have any problems updating either.

I always take care of my phones...my Omnia7 is looking like a new one after 6 months, as did the HD2 and the Xperia X1 before.
If you aren't careful, the camera lens might get scratched on a rough surface because it's very even with the housing.

A clear NO!
The power button placement is absolutely the best position one can have for it.
All my previous phones did switch on and unlock themselves when I placed the phone in my pocket (because then the phone is upside down and through gravity the button is pressed when moving). With the Omnia7 position this is no issue anymore. The button is easy to reach but there are no unwanted button presses anymore. I'm very glad the button is where it is and I doubt I would buy a phone with the power button on top anytime again.
You can't compare these two phones.
The trophy is a mid range device while the Omnia 7 is the best WP7 phone.

From personal experience i seem to see most problems have been reported here on HD7s / DVPs

The first ones were a bit of a **** up however by sticking to the carrier approval i don't really see much cause for concern. My updates went flawlessly on my Omnia 7. I can only see the process getting smoother

Supposedly the Omnia 7 has Gorilla Glass so should be resistant. There is a thread on here about Gorilla Glass on the Omnia 7 and the absue people have subjected thier phones to. Check it out it should help ease your mind!

I read about this in reviews and it is completely unfounded. It is not annoying and i have never accidently hit it during a call. If anything it is nice and easy to use as it is a natural place my thumb falls when i pick up the phone.
The Omnia 7 is a really nice unit. It's solidly built and the screen is gorgeous. I would definitely buy it again given the choice of any current WP7 handset.

Not sure about the Trophy, but I have never had any problems with my Omnia 7. I have been using it pretty much since it came out in the UK

Again, haven't had any problems with the NoDo update. I reckon Mango will be fine. Sorta related to updates, I think HTC will always be quicker to resolve any problems with firmware etc. Also they have better device specific apps. Samsung apps are useless on the whole and haven't been updated for a while now.

I've got one little nick on the plastic bit around the phone and 2 very fine scratches on the screen after about 5 months of abuse. I tend to drop my phones a lot.. certainly looks better than my Desire did after 5 months

I reckon some reviewers just got lazy and copied each other regarding this point. If they bothered to use the phone, they would find that there is no problem at all with the button placement! I've never accidentally switched off the phone during a phone call or while i've been using the phone.. I think it was just a theoretical issue from lazy reviewers! As others have been saying, the button location is actually pretty handy for when you want to lock your phone etc.
I don't really have any regrets about the handset itself. It seems to perform as expected... I'd only say that the storage space may not be enough for some people and also the Samsung apps are pretty pants compared to HTC and LG.. and I don't see them improving!

I could not agree more. I bought Omnia 7 three times. Each almost every month I have been replacing with a brand new one and it just delights me to look at when it looks me back with those colours.
Well, I like my Omnia and will keep it probably. But in my opinion the screen has its flaws. The color and the blacks are gorgeous but the resolution is not. You could see that especially with smaller fonts. Not a big deal for me but it's a fact. If you hold the phone normally you wouldn't even recognise.
Well it arrived yesterday with an unexpected bonus - it's the 16gb version! Unbranded other than a T-mobile splash screen. I've resisted flashing it, will wait to see what happens with updates over the next month.

I've had some minor dramas with my Omnia 7. A few months ago in January when it was raining constantly for like 3 weeks and the air was thick with moisture, the phone kept constantly beeping as though it was being plugged in to charge, even when it wasn't. It stopped doing this after the weather fined up and hasn't done it since. I'm going to assume it was moisture related. Another problem I've had is the audio sometimes doesn't record in video recorder mode. See the thread in this forum for my experiences with this issue (which seems to have gone away since I installed NoDo via Chevron updater).

This one comes down to the carriers in my opinion. I'm in Australia, and they're only just now rolling out the NoDo update. Meanwhile it's been officially available in other territories. So your mileage will vary.
Honestly though, if the hacking community keeps it up, and I can get Mango via Chevron updater or some other method, I really couldn't care how long Optus takes.

I really hate to admit it, as I'm typically quite precious with my gadgets, but I've drunkenly dropped my phone several times. Once it hit concrete, landing on the corner which resulted in it being sort of flattened, which was purely cosmetic and I managed to fix on my own anyway.
Another time I dropped it and it went screen first straight flat onto concrete and not a thing happened. Other than that I've kept it in pockets without other items, so there hasn't been any chance for the screen to scratch, really. But I've noticed no structural damage beyond the corner I mentioned. It seems to be quite a resilient screen. Really, it's going strong considering the regrettable abuse.

NO! I absolutely LOVE where it's placed. I was a little concerned when I read reviewers talking about accidentally turning off the phone while talking on it... but now I don't even know what they were talking about!
I typically hold my phone in my left hand so I can swipe with my right index finger, and the lock key ends up right under where my index finger rests, so I can lock and unlock it without having to move my finger positions so (excluding drunken negligence), I don't have to worry about dropping the phone while fumbling to re-lock it. It really is ideal, and I'm glad the Galaxy S II (which I am pushing my sister to buy) has the same placement. Samsung is really onto something, I think

Yes it is!! When I got mine I bought a an advanced flexishield skin porduct code 26589 from Mobilefun. Its great and I recomnmend something like this to avoid dropping it. The Omnia 7 is a fantastic WP7 and I am loving it!!
