I had a nexus s, galaxy nexus and went to a Z10. I'm kinda missing my Android experience and apps. I originally wanted the nexus 4 nut got this and now thinking of trading. Is everyone pleased with their nexus 4?
First Android phone, definitely pleased!
//nexusâ´
Make the trade bud.. Ive come from a galaxy s 4g, then an s2, then an s3... I couldn't be happier with my decision to buy this phone.

I had the S3 for a week and hated it compared to my gnex.
Onky problem is I have about $150 in z10 cases lol
Definitely trade. Lots of ROMs to try out for this awesome phone.
Definitely better than Z10... using pure android is really a different experience after seeing Touchwiz or Sense
I heard it had bad panorama camera, is that true ?

Well if that is the deciding factor for you then you may need help , but no the panorama camera is just as good as any other and 4.2 has photosphere which is bada**
Nexus 4 is my 3. Android phone, and by far the best. Forget the cartoon like touchwiz or bloat filled sense. Pure 4.2 is IMO Much better.
In Denmark N4 cost the same as gs3 but I still think it's better value.

How's the screen? Cause on my Z10 the screen is pretty incredible

This is my 5th android phone. Can't go wrong with the nexus line. I love this phone like a fat kid loves cake.
Although I'm currently awaiting a replacement phone as the touch screen went dead on mine... I suspect static buildup then an arc from my leg to the screen... So I might suggest setting the phone down when you know you will be around static buildup, as I now will.

The screen is amazing once you calibrate it. It's easily as good as the HOX and iPhone 5 and probably as good as the Z10 (even with the lower PPI). Overall this phone is brilliant taking everything into account, couldn't have asked for more.

Nexus is way better n4-quad-core 1.5ghz krait vs dual-core 1.5ghz krait, Graphics n4-andreo 320 vs andreo 225, n4-4.7" ips display 317ppi , z10- 355pp
Z10 has more PPI , smaller screen , Cost a lot more

I really like it now I'm used to it. The only problem is it keeps sliding off everything that's not perfectly straight
Is it basically a gakaxy nexus experience?
Get it. Root and tweak till your hearts content....This phone is ROM heaven and blindingly fast. Best phone iv had.
Its the best around...but don't wait to much longer to get it!
I was really hoping for the rumored 32GB LTE version to be announced at I/O but it seems that phone is a myth. So I'm now considering getting the current Nexus 4.
I'm curious to know if there are any ex-Galaxy Nexus owners in here and what their take on it is. Personally I love my phone for normal use. Running CM10.1 I'm able to do everything--aside from games--with smooth ease. Sadly, Subway Surfers and Iron Man are almost not worth playing on my phone and that's kind of a bummer. I'm also starting to see ghosting/burn-in in my screen, which isn't horrible but I think I'm over AMOLED. The real kicker is that my volume rocker has stopped working and it is the most inconvenient thing I've ever experienced on a modern smartphone.
So, should I upgrade?
I had the Galaxy Nexus and love the N5.
It's a worthwhile upgrade and at $349 the price can't be beat!
I say go for it! :good:

I couldn't be happier. The phone is gorgeous, and just oozes smoothness over the GNex. :good:
Another one chiming in.... Nexus 4 trumps GNex for me in every way. Good price as others have mentioned, and you will love the solid feeling design of the N4 compared to the plastic on the GNex. Make sure to get a back glass and front screen protector.

The nexus 4 is a definite upgrade over the g nexus. But if you want removable battery and sd card get the S4 Google edition.

Now, I don't want to start a whole Nexus 4 vs. GS4 GE debate, but I do want to just point out that both phones have their pros and cons. GS4 GE has removable storage and battery, and does have better hardware. Nexus 4 costs about half as much and is still a top-of-the-line phone. Again, not trying to start a debate, but OP, if you're considering upgrading to either of these, I'd say go check the pros and cons. There's a thread you can go to made specifically for debating the N4 vs any other phone. If I find it, I'll edit this post and put it in.

I spent $600 on my Galaxy Nexus a month and a half before it went on the Play Store. I told myself I'd never spend that much on a phone (upfront) again. While I would love the S4GE, I just can't see myself dropping $650 + tax + shipping.
Thanks to everyone who replied! I'm pretty sure a Nexus 4 is in my future.

I did and am extremely happy with the decision. I had the GNex on VZW, and even got rid of my service so I could switch to the N4 on a GSM provider. Very glad I did. This phone is extremely smooth and the developer support is tremendous just like our old Gnex. Only downside compared to Gnex is lack of replaceable battery but I really havent run into an issue with this. I have an external battery backup just in case, but havent even run into a situation where I needed to use it. Plus as everyone else has noted the price simply cant be beat. There might be newer, more powerful phones on the market now (GS4, HTC1) but they would run you double to buy outright or you would have to lock in a service contract. In my opinion it just isnt worth the extra money for those, plus they lack the full nexus experience.
N4 has better screen, battery, design, quality.
And of course CPU and GPU is light years away.
After that is camera 2 gigs of ram that makes the super smooth.
So to conclude it is much better than GN.
Stop thinking about it. Buy N4 and sell the GN or keep as a spare.

I did the upgrade a few days ago and I can tell you that it's totally worth it! Even with the upcoming S4 Google version, I think N4 is still a better choice by design and functionality. (Yes, S4 is more powerful in terms of hardware but the button design has ruined everything IMO)

i came from the gnex and i think the nexus 4 is better in every way but the screen. i miss the super amoled screen on the gnex's. im just so use to amoled screens since my last 3 phones had them lol. the nexus 4 looks washed out to me. but thats just my opinion.
Yeah... I just switched from the galaxy nexus as well... couldn't be happier! Battery life has been just as good as stock battery gn and it's much faster... I don't think the s4 is worth nearly twice the price

I agree with you. When I first came off of the amoled my Nex4 did look washed out. Once I got used to the colors on the Nex4 I realized how much more true to life they are. Now when I look at amoled it looks like a over saturated replica of colors.
The N4 makes the GNex blow IMO.

Simple question: new Nexus 4 or used Xperia Z (condition: noticeably used, but without big scratches, ~7/10)?
If you could, please write pros/cons. I'd really appreciate any help! Thanks.

absolutely nexus 4 !!! i didnt buy my nexus with the great price of google store i paid around 450 euros and i never will regret this treasure i get better support better quality better development and better community is are biggest pros.. a great screen maybe not 1080p but still amazing and both have same spec almost both snapdragon s4 pro with 2 gb ram but can u say Z is more beautiful than N4?! choose google! u will have the support from mama! :good:
I went from N4 to an XZ then back to an N4. I found the XZ too big and awkward to use, it lags a bit more than the N4 too.
Or maybe Xiaomi MI2S? Currently beats all phones!
Its the Nexus 4 forum, it'll be obviously biased towards the Nexus 4.
^^ somebooty isnt happy. Remember opinions; we all have em and breathing is good.

I used one for a bit in a Sony store. I didn't like it. It felt more uncomfortable in the hand, it lagged, and even though the screen was 1080p, it looked worse. The colors looked way off, didn't really look great, and the viewing angles were terrible. I would get a Nexus 4.

The nexus 4 is awesome!!
Fastest android device u can get (in terms of ui smoothness) as of now
But hey the experia z is so sexy i like it a lot and also the 13 mp is a pulse too only thing holding me back from buying it is it being a bit too large .
Do you guys still in the USA via the Play Store the Nexus 4 will still be cheaper than the Moto X?
If I was going to buy the phone JUST to use it, no developing no nothing, I'd get the XZ. It looks great and it performs well.
If I was going to buy the phone to mod and develop, I'd get the nexus 4.
That's another reason I went back to the N4, the dev community for the XZ isn't very active. For example there's only 1 custom kernel and it only works with stock based roms. I was bored.
Bought Nexus 4 16GB in latest HW revision. If someone has similar issue between the phones, you can ping me via PM. Thank you all.
Hello guys,
I just filmed my Nexus 7 FHD playing a video at Max volume. It has been said that the speaker volume has been improved, I don't find it loud enough. Is it suppose to be louder?
My Galaxy Note 2 is twice louder!

Have you tried listening to it closely and making sure both of your speakers are working or not ?
This might be the culprit because my nexus suffers from it
You should go to a store and test the same video on a demo unit... Then you'll know if your device is OK or not

In mine, sound is coming out of both speakers, I just checked.
I bought a 16gb for my son 2 days ago and its the same. Why give some thing surround sound when the sound is not even loud enough?

Lol I don't get it too. My phones are louder! But it sounds good with headphones.
Thats really disappointing. Can you give us a reading with a db meter.
The best I will be able to do is a db test with a db test app from the play store. I'll post a video as soon as I can.
If this tablet was for me and not my 9 year old son, I would've returned it asap just because of how low the sound is. My mytouch 4g is way louder.
Decibal Test
Here I did a decibal test with the same song same player, comparing NOTE 2 to NEXUS 7:
Nexus 7 FHD:

Note 2:

Note 2's average DB is higher by more than 10 DB.
Could somebody post a link to a dB tester? I can't find any that work with ICS in the Play Store.

I'm guessing you have a custom ROM and Kernel on your Note 2 as you are on XDA forum.
Do you have STweak installed? It be unfair to compare Galaxy Note 2 Modded Speaker to a Stock Nexus 7. Unless it's stock as well.
I just sold my Note 2 to buy this N7 2013, volume is comparable. Without having them side to side i would say they were the same volume wise. I have found the sound on this tab quite good.

Can you do a DB test? My Note 2 is so much louder than the Nexus 7 that I don't even hear the Nexus 7 when both are playing at the same time. I would like to know if mine is defective. My HTC Magic and sony X10 are also louder.....
Both Note 2 and Nexus 7 are Clean roms.

Hello,
So its been more or less a year since the nexus 7 2013 came out. And rumors have been there online about a 'nexus 8' coming out soon. I honestly do not care about that since it will then become a rat race of sorts.
My dilemma is that I need to buy a tablet, a week from now, for studying purposes. Like mandatory buying. Since there will be a lot of reading and watching videos(~6 hours a day in the library), my first thought was getting this tablet. Since the screen resolution is off the charts for a 7 inch screen. Plus its budget friendly.
But since I already have a nexus 5 (I have tried watching my videos on it but it burns my eyes after a couple of hours, plus the videos are SD), would it really make a difference to buy this tablet? Any advice/input would be appreciated.
Oh and where I live, I cant get my hands on a un-sealed nexus 7 so I cant compare the screen size versus my nexus 5.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Another tablet I thought of was Ipad Mini 1st gen (non retina). But then again, Apple official stop mini 1st gen support end of this year..
I would stick with an Android tablet. They are cheaper to begin with and generally have better battery in my experience.
I would recommend getting the Nexus 7 2013 and maybe installing a custom kernel and ROM since it looks like you're going to be watching a lot of video and want the battery to last as long as possible.
Heck, I still have my Nexus 7 2012 and it works like a dream with RastaKat installed.

I plan on installing ROMs and kernels yes
I see you have a nexus 5. Would you happen to have an idea of the screen size difference in person between nexus 5 and nexus 7 2013? If I'm not mistaken, your nexus 7 2012 is almost the same size as the 2013 counterpart, so how much better would you rate ( out of 10, the higher the better)watching a video on your nexus 5 versus nexus 7?
Thank you
Nexus 5 is a bit clearer. As for the sizes the names of the devices speak for themselves. Nexus 5 clocks in around 4.97 inches IPS display if I'm right.
I don't know much about the Nexus 7 2013 but from what I read about the reviews and my friends who have used it love it.
That being said when it comes to size between the Nexus 5 and N7 2012 I'd love watch it on my tablet but for clarity I'd watch on my N5 in 1080p.
The N7 2013 isn't too far behind the Nexus 5 so I wouldn't worry about quality too much honestly.
Also while we're on the topic of devices I own I do Not own an S4. I'm using a Milk Music bypass where I have to modify the build.prop to show up as a Samsung device.

This thread has been helpful, thank you.
I have a Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013...
My take?
Buy either Nexus 7 for media consumption and use your Nexus 5 as a phone/more portable device. 7" makes a difference even over the 5" screens I've seen.
As far as screen quality, the 2012 is actually not bad at 720p, but definitely the 1080p screen on the 2013 is excellent.
BIG warning though: The Nexus 7 2013 is extremely fragile. Within weeks of buying it, I had chips on the bezel despite it being in a rubberized case and never dropped. No idea how it happened. Then it warped while being in my pocket. You could lay it face down and it would tip back and forth. Then, I dropped it (my bad) and the screen shattered. Screen replacement is incredibly difficult, don't let anyone lie to you. I nearly destroyed the plastic bezel by overheating it to remove the glass. It made me sick since I have the LTE version and the bezel CANNOT be bought. I am probably going to "repair" the damaged area with rubber cement or epoxy to properly support the glass so it doesn't flex, and simply have an ugly bezel with no resale value.
