[Q] MODs to Stock ROM - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know how to include the following mods to the Stock ROM (JWR66V)?
- Cyanogenmod LED Control
- Volume Rocker Skip Track
I know there are apps that can control the first one. However, I think that Cyanogenmod's way is more elegant and I like it to be "baked in". Any thoughts on this? I also know that flashing Cyanogenmod would be the obvious solution, but I'm currently liking being stock very much.
Thanks in advance.

1 : Most probably not, I'll be a little bold now and say NO. You can't have it "baked in"
2 : Yes. I think some music apps allow you to use this.

[Q] [solved] cyanogenmod 11 note 3 notification audio step

Hey guys, I appologize in advance if this is in the wrong place! But the cyanogenmod forum does not have a note 3 section (though I suppose it may work on all devices)
Basically what I'm looking to do is make the notification volumes the same as audio volumes. I don't really know what to call is so bear with me..
You know how the ringtone volume is say 1 click up to 7 clicks?
And the audio is from 1 to 15 clicks?
Well the notification volume slider shares the same as the ringtone (no I don't mean they are both the same slider that's in the settings) I want to be able to change the notification volume to .5 of a click rather then 1 click, is there some way of editing this value? Basically touchwiz is the type of volume sliders I would like.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Again I appoligize if this is in the wrong place.
Thanks!

teamsek's latest build has a volume step addition - Not sure if this is what you're specifically after, but sounds right.

A "Volume step" option for notifications is what i'm looking for! yes thank you for telling me what it is called.
The problem is I would rather not use a unofficial cm mod.
so if there is a way to emulate http://nexus7.wonderhowto.com/how-to/add-more-steps-volume-slider-your-nexus-7-for-more-gradual-control-0149207/
but on cyanogenmod. that would be epic.

Well to be honest, temasek's builds fix things faster than Official CM nightlies - Not to mention the other great builds like BeanStalk/CarbonROM and AOSB- , plus he has a few extra things baked in, then take into account the kernel with crazy battery life lol. - Unofficial doesn't mean worse. And besides Official is buggy as hell compared to the custom builds :silly:

I know, I just prefer to stick to the official unfortunately.
So no way of doing this other then flashing a different rom that you know of?

temasek may have taken it from official CM repo's - if he has it'll eventually get added to the nightlies (as for how long I have no clue) - you could compile your own CM build and just add that mod in I guess.

Finding the right ROM for me

so what i really like in my stock 4.4.2 is the knock on /off and I tried CM 10.2 but sadly I noticed I dont have knock off...
I want a simple rom...I like how nexus clean version of android looks and feels..I want a minimalistic rom...
I really liked the option in the oneplus one to drow a pattern when the screen is of and activate a certian app if theres a rom wich include it ill like to hear(I guess maybe CM 11 but I havent tried it yet becuse its still in nightly version)
I have a VS980, and I have flashed most of the ROMs available in the dev section for it. I don't believe that any AOSP-based ROM is going to have knock-off, so you would have to use one of the stock based (such as Malladus or XDABBEB). These in general aren't going to have minimalist look of AOSP based ROMs though.
Your other choice is to run an AOSP ROM with Xposed. I know that the Xposed GEL Settings module has an option to set double-tap to an action, though that may be a premium feature you have to donate to receive (which I recommend anyway, as it is an amazing module).

Paranoid Android has knock on + knock off (you have to use the notification bar; doesn't work anywhere else as far as I know).

yeah but i dont want to reach every time...and it wont be comftrable while driving for example
Another option, if you're OK with using a launcher other than the GEL, is to install the Apex launcher. I believe it gives you desktop knock off in its free version.
Using this launcher, you can use any ROM you'd like, as long as it provides knock on. I think most ROMs for the G2 provide that.

I think you should search for voice controlled apps and such. I don't know if Google Voice can help you.

Is there any way to have 4 separate volumes? I.e. separate ring and notification vols

Hi, is there any way possible to have 4 separate volumes like in vanilla Android?
Ring
Notification
Media
Alarms
OnePlus ROMs seem to combine Ring and Notification in to a single volume. Several versions of Android have had this separation in the past, even Samsung has it on their version, but I'm unable to find a way to get Ring and Notification volumes separated on the OP5 or OP3T. Are there perhaps custom ROMs or an Xposed module or anything else that could enable this? I am rooted and willing to install any mods etc that would enable this. Thank you in advance.
I would like to know the same...
Have you tried ics+ enhanced ringer control?

I looked through all the ROMs available and none of them seem to list this feature. But if anyone is aware of the existence of this feature, please let us know.

That's an old app which allows control only via the app rather than baking it in to the OS. I'd like to be able to use Tasker or a location profile app called Llama (similar to Tasker in many ways) to be able to set all 4 volumes independently, this is something I have been doing for the last 5+ years on many flavors and versions of Android, hoping to get that functionality back again on OnePlus phones.
So, anyone one found a solution, perhaps a light third party app then? Really would love to have separate volumes.

I think most of custom have 4 separate volumes :good:
Use Volume butler from play store, you can then seperately set ringtone and notifications volume

Awesome, these appear to be newer. At the time I posted the OP, there were only 2-3 ROMs available and they were based on OP ROMs, not yet on AOSP. I wonder if it's possible to bake this in to a OnePlus based ROM.

Yes I did, it has a setting to unlink ringer and notification volume but unfortunately that still doesn't allow apps like Tasker to tap in to those individual volumes separately. They can only be controlled by this app itself. My usual set up adjusts all 4 volumes individually using location, time of meeting, meeting status etc, I've been doing this for years using 4 volumes built in to the base OS but obviously it doesn't work on OP phones since the option isn't there in the base OS.
Really appreciate your help though!
the7thson said:
Yes I have tried Volume Butler and several other apps as well. When you adjust Ringer or Notification volume, it automatically moves the other one as well since they are tied together in the base ROM. No app has the ability to change parameters that simply don't exist in the OS. I do appreciate your help though.

i'm unable to open the screen however, in this case the only solution is to install a custom or to stay with 3 volumes

OOS or Pure Fusion, or another?

Hi, I've bought my OP5 a couple of weeks ago and I'm looking for a ROM with a little bit of more customizability but still being google stock like. One of my major peeves with OOS is the DND mode, it can't be scheduled and media isn't silenced, so I'd like a ROM where I can change that, also proximity wake.
I was thinking about Pure Fusion, what do you think? How's the battery? Bugs? Stability?
All comparing to OOS of course, I want something better. Not really looking to theme my phone or anything.
If you have another suggestions, they are most welcome!
Thanks!
I'm on Pure Fusion and it's my favourite ROM by far. It offers more customization than OOS and I haven't experienced any bugs (yet). My device did reboot randomly once but I don't know if it was ROM related or maybe an app.
As for the whole DND thing, I unfortunately do not know because I use the app Tasker to automate all my DND/Ringer/Vibrate mode settings. I think there is some DND configuration though, but don't quote me on that.
You will get a pretty stock feel with it as well, as it is an AOSP ROM and if you ever do decide to theme in the future, you will have full Substratum support!

Thank you for your answer! Could you check on the DND thing really quickly? Just put it on DND mode and check if the keyboard, for example, makes any sound when typing, or things like that. Or you can try locking/unlocking your device, see if you hear the locking/unlocking sound. Also, see if it can turn itself on by setting an hour for example.
It would really mean a lot to me!
Oh, one more thing I REALLY hate about OOS, when listening to music through bluetooth, I can BARELY hear notification sounds, does that happen with Pure Fusion?
Thanks again!

Reverse "back" and "recent" buttons on S4 mini?

Hi,
Is there any way to reverse the Back and Recent hardware buttons on the S4 mini (i9195)?
I'm currently using Lineage 17.1, so I know it's possible to enable on-screen navigation (with the back button on the left and the recent on the right) but I don't want to use on-screen buttons.
I've seen there are some apps that claim they can reverse these buttons, but it seems like overkill to install an always-on app (possibly containing ads and/or spyware) just to have these buttons reversed.
Is there no simple hack that can do this? (preferably without needing root)
Thanks for any help.

Although not an immediate solution, it may be of interest to know that your wish is possible on my S4mini Value Edition (i9195i) using an amazingly wonderful ROM call'd ColtOS. (I also have a regular original S4mini (i9195) using Lineage 17.1, but would prefer to use ColtOS if only somebody would build it.)
Interesting to know that very option is included in ColtOS! Shame the ROM is not available for the i9195, although I think I'd prefer to stick with Lineage for now anyway, just wish there was a simple solution to this buttons issue...
You can use button remaper, i used it with the stock rom and its work great!
