OOS or Pure Fusion, or another? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hi, I've bought my OP5 a couple of weeks ago and I'm looking for a ROM with a little bit of more customizability but still being google stock like. One of my major peeves with OOS is the DND mode, it can't be scheduled and media isn't silenced, so I'd like a ROM where I can change that, also proximity wake.
I was thinking about Pure Fusion, what do you think? How's the battery? Bugs? Stability?
All comparing to OOS of course, I want something better. Not really looking to theme my phone or anything.
If you have another suggestions, they are most welcome!
Thanks!

I'm on Pure Fusion and it's my favourite ROM by far. It offers more customization than OOS and I haven't experienced any bugs (yet). My device did reboot randomly once but I don't know if it was ROM related or maybe an app.
As for the whole DND thing, I unfortunately do not know because I use the app Tasker to automate all my DND/Ringer/Vibrate mode settings. I think there is some DND configuration though, but don't quote me on that.
You will get a pretty stock feel with it as well, as it is an AOSP ROM and if you ever do decide to theme in the future, you will have full Substratum support!

Thank you for your answer! Could you check on the DND thing really quickly? Just put it on DND mode and check if the keyboard, for example, makes any sound when typing, or things like that. Or you can try locking/unlocking your device, see if you hear the locking/unlocking sound. Also, see if it can turn itself on by setting an hour for example.
It would really mean a lot to me!
Oh, one more thing I REALLY hate about OOS, when listening to music through bluetooth, I can BARELY hear notification sounds, does that happen with Pure Fusion?
Thanks again!

What would your dream ROM have in it?

What I'd like to see a dev do is take the android source and one of the kernels (ScaryKernel stable preferably) and develop a ROM from the ground up.
Call waiting does not work properly in CM7 or another AOSP based ROM I tried.
GPS has problems fixing in that ROM as well. I believe Sense based ROM users don't have this problem.
What would be really cool is having a nice 2.3.5 ROM with ScaryStable kernel, Android 2.3.5, some, not all of the tweaks from CM7, apps included that are actually useful such as antutu benchmark, kernel manager, rom manager, super user, terminal emulator, speedtest.net, wifi analyzer, gps status, fasterfix stuff like that, HTC GPS drivers, and being able to update profile, and prl and being able to get to the ##code# menus from the dialer (basically need the HTC dialer for this I'm guessing which would also fix call waiting). That would be like the ultimate ROM in my opinion.
Thoughts? And yes, I'm actually thinking about taking this on as my own project if I have to even though I can't program to save my life.
What's a matter with call waiting on ASOP? I've never noticed anything messed up or anything different.....I have predominatly have had cm7 but also ran shiftdeck for awhile and call waiting has worked fine I believe....
I have read others having problems getting gps to get a fix but have never experienced the problem myself.....I know the solution has been to flash sense get a lock n then flash asop and from what I read gps is fixed after that....

Tap manage calls in CM7, tell me what happens.
As for GPS, I found a combination of resetting the GPS and downloading GPS assistance data with GPS status, and using faster fix and setting the proper ntp server while having wireless assistance on helps for a while. I'm still investigating exactly what needs to be done for GPS to to work properly.
I can honestly say I have never had a single problem with GPS on any cyanogen build but i never shut my GPS off I don't even know why It's on maybe for the weather so maybe that info could help someone maybe get a lock right before flashing and leaving GPS on might work but AOSP is fast has no bloat and is very customizable but I am a Sense guy so:
I think a Rom I would be 100% happy with as an all time Rom for right now it would have to be a Sense 3.0 Rom because I absolutely love it, with the HDR and panorama effects added to the camera, overclocked to 1.2 Ghz with a very light theme maybe like Rosie, status bar with no clock and notification area to be semi-trans black with white font a themed HTC_IME and dialer and a custom Glock LockRing that's all

The real question is how does your GPS work with wireless assistance turned off?
And Sense 3.0 is beautiful (mainly talking about the weather themed lock screen with the shortcuts) but I hate the way Sense 2 and 3 manage contacts and it's way too facebook integrated in general which is annoying.

I wouldn't know I don't use my GPS often and I leave it on the default settings and never have a problem even if I'm not on WiFi every time I have needed it, It's been solid and it don't kill my battery at all I get great battery life

I have to disagree. I love sense bc it has Facebook integration. I like how I set my contacts to their respective profile on my touch pro 2 with wm 6.5 synced with Google and never had to worry about it again. It puts a pic to your contacts and gives u a bday entry which is nice imo.
Now my gps sucks, I have to wait 5-10 mins to get a lock outside or in the car. And sense 2.3 doesn't have kernel source so its limited to the stock kernel.
My dream Rom is MikG, with x99 kernel. I used to love that kernel on 2.2

My dream Rom would be MikG With x99 or V8 kernel, AND Firerats due to that sucker helps save a lot of space.
My "dream" ROM on the Shift would have to be full blown Sense 3.0 with it running perfectly smooth WITHOUT overclocking. I would want the kernel for sbc and UV. And I would want google + integration added along with FB and twitter.
(Guess thats why its called a dream ROM )

Yeah full Sense 3 with no oc running that great is prolly extremely hard to do, I'm on a constant uphill battle with what I got going you know

To start out, it would look a LOT like CM7. Same launcher, same extras. NO Sense UI.
(for the record, I know that most of this is available, it just means installing a number of extra packages)
Add in all the google
T9 predictive input for the dialer
A nicer looking messaging app that doesn't fail every time you try to send a text longer than 1 message.
A few of the nice sound options from Sense UI, including having the ringer volume automatically reduce when the phone is picked up, automatically switching to speakerphone when you set the phone face-down during a call, and double-tapping the home key to see all your launcher pages at once.

1. Gmail, Voice, Talk, Maps, Latitude (yes, I know it's bad for battery AND privacy, but it's fun and I don't plan on committing crimes, cheating on my wife, lieing to my boss or ever being worth enough money to kidnap; so I don't care if people know where I am.), Navigation, and of course, Market.
2. I haven't made any changes to the built in messaging app of any kind, but I'm also running the latest nightly. Doesn't matter too much, since I've installed GoSMSpro.
3. Yes, I'm well aware that many of those features kill the battery. That's why I like CM7, and only want a small handful of the highly useful features from Sense.
well no matter which rom i try, i always end up installing launcher 7, so to have that already integrated would be nice for the drawer, and a rom that lets you use the volume bottoms to skip tracks in your music player ,

I know with both cm7 and cyclonic you can skip tracks with the volume rocker. Also with the mod you can on MIUI.

my dream rom would be CM7 with Sense Lock Screen 3.0. I know there's agile lockscreen, and to be honest it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also rather fond of the calender widget on sense as well. but i can live with out. just the calender widget on CM7 sucks. just shows upcoming events i wanna see the whole calender.

Finding the right ROM for me

so what i really like in my stock 4.4.2 is the knock on /off and I tried CM 10.2 but sadly I noticed I dont have knock off...
I want a simple rom...I like how nexus clean version of android looks and feels..I want a minimalistic rom...
I really liked the option in the oneplus one to drow a pattern when the screen is of and activate a certian app if theres a rom wich include it ill like to hear(I guess maybe CM 11 but I havent tried it yet becuse its still in nightly version)
I have a VS980, and I have flashed most of the ROMs available in the dev section for it. I don't believe that any AOSP-based ROM is going to have knock-off, so you would have to use one of the stock based (such as Malladus or XDABBEB). These in general aren't going to have minimalist look of AOSP based ROMs though.
Your other choice is to run an AOSP ROM with Xposed. I know that the Xposed GEL Settings module has an option to set double-tap to an action, though that may be a premium feature you have to donate to receive (which I recommend anyway, as it is an amazing module).

yeah but i dont want to reach every time...and it wont be comftrable while driving for example
Another option, if you're OK with using a launcher other than the GEL, is to install the Apex launcher. I believe it gives you desktop knock off in its free version.
Using this launcher, you can use any ROM you'd like, as long as it provides knock on. I think most ROMs for the G2 provide that.

[Q] is there a way to disable knock on feature in KitKat ROMs?

I keep looking for a way to disable the knock on feature with KitKat based ROMs, but haven't found a way yet. I'm running SlimKat on a LS980 right now, but none of the other ROMs have had the option to disable the knock on feature.
It is great to have until I try running with the phone or using it to do manual work while listening to music. It keeps changing songs, opening websites from Google now, rearranging my home screen apps, and sometimes managing to call people.
Does any one know a easy way (or stable ROM) to have the ability to deactivate knock on? I'd love to be able to turn it on and off easily like WiFi or Bluetooth so when I need the feature I can have it, but when I don't it isn't a pain.

you should specify you want a solution for aosp based kitkat because on stock(the lg themed one that came with the phone) you can go to settings>gestures and turn it off/if the proximity sensor is covered it doesn't allow knock on to work to prevent it from unlocking while in pockets and stuff
BUMP!
I'd like to know as well! The screen keeps coming on while in my pocket. What file/code/apk/ect is responsible for Knock-On?
I'm running AOSP C-ROM 7.1.

It is mainly kernel which is in charge of knock on so unless you know how to create kernel there isn't much you can do

OnePlus gestures in custom rom?

Hey guys, so I've had this 6t since launch, and haven't changed my rom yet for a couple reasons. First the finger print scanner is important to me, but also because I really like OnePlus' gestures in OOS! So my question is this:
Is it possible to get the OnePlus gestures working in a custom rom? Is it kernel based and if so, do any custom kernels here on XDA support it? Is it rom sided? Thanks guys!
The fingerprint issue will come in time I'm sure, but the OnePlus gestures are a must for me, I'm spoiled with them lol
Up the thread, I searched for something for the gestures but nothing works like stock, do you know any way to get them to work?
Thanks!

You need to have the OP launcher APK in the ROM (not necessarily as your main launcher) but it handles some of the gestures in the background.
Finger prints work on some recent roms. As of myself I check youtube reviews of roms before trying it. May be there is some rom which has what you're looking for.
I've been using ViperOS. It is pretty good. It has both working fp and navigation gestures (If that's what you're looking for). Not as impressive as OOS though. You can give it a try.
Most of the custom ROMs already include the OOS off-screen gestures. For example Havoc and OMNI-Rom. It works quite good, not that perfect as in original ROM but good to go.
For custom ROMs I recommend fluid navigation gestures. They are almost as snappy as stock and fully customizable. Root required.
what about support for oxygen cam in custom roms ?
If you use Magisk you can install Oxyfy.
Most tons for the last year have had fingerprint scanner working. And also include oos navigation and screen off gestures. Not 100% the same but my experience with them had been they worked just fine. Screen off gestures annually worked better for me in custom that oos.

Miui : notifications problems. How to solve this ?

Hi,
Since i've bought this device, i'm happy with it regarding the price and the overall quality. But one thing is bothering me each day a little more : the notifications. One day i receive them all, no problem, next day i'm not informed for a new snap, next day with whatsapp, receiving Gmail notif 1h later after receiving the mail... Very annoying !!
I've tried stock Miui, EU china and EEA global... can't see any improvement, still not regular... I love Miui full gestures and still want it, custom roms have problem with gcam and whatsapp video call, i use both of them each day... i've seen custom miui rom but all in russian... not that much info... is it really safe to use them ? I'm a hard user of google products, from phone to youtube, maps, gmail, agenda, drive...
Is debloating with Saki tool a way to solve those problems ? any others ideas guys ?
I've heard about this issue so much. It seems to be a problem with MIUI and I've not seen a fix for it. I can recommend custom roms where the Gcam/Whatsapp video issue is reportedly fixed though. Pixel Experience (non-CAF version) and Lineage OS (by letsmakecakes) reported that they have fixed these issues. You can try them as I've read they have good battery life too (reportedly better than MIUI). I'm currently on Syberia and waiting for these fixes to be ported to other roms too, which i think will happen soon.
One advice if you switch to Custom roms; don't flash custom kernels. Stick with the one provided in the rom. I've had huge battery drains with evira 3.8 and 4.1.
Yes, i've just seen that the PE rom seems to have both working now !! i think i'm gonna try it or another solid rom (love AEX !!) as soon as it's confirmed it works. For the full nav gestures, any advice ? it's the thing which make me stick to Miui too : a REAL full screen with perfect getures within have to move my hand to the bottom of the phone each 15 sec

The edge gestures implemented in rom in my experience are a bit laggy but you can always use an app like ubikitouch or fluid navigation gesture to solve the problem

I've tried a few roms (AOSPX, Havoc, LOS, Bootleggers, Descendant, crDroid and now Syberia) and almost -if not- all of them had fullscreen navigation options built in. Personally, I am using "Navigation Gestures - Swipe Gesture Controls!" by XDA on play store. I paid for the app but it's cheap and works increadibly reliable. Even the free version should have more customizations than MIUI. (Don't use hide navbar option in the app, disable nav bar in the ROM settings)

I sure hope so. The fixes should be open and shared among the xda developers. I'm sure every maintainer would like to implement this fix on their next update.
