Syncing is done via Push now. Your phone doesn't periodically go off and sync every few minutes, instead it waits to be told it has something to sync, this is all done through Google Play services, so is battery friendly. If you get lots of notifications this will cause extra battery drain as of course your phone is constantly being nudged to wakeup and alert you to something, so options are to uncheck these from syncing from the Accounts setting page.

Phil
Thanx.
What u wrote is correct but nevertheless i want to sync only ones a day.
This without doing it manually by going to the Settings...

I configured the WM6 email application to pull my gmail, however it's not pulling just the stuff from my gmail inbox, but also stuff that's been moved to my deleted/spam folder via filters i've created.
what i'd like to do is
- just pull stuff from my inbox
- only keep 1 or 2 days worth of gmail messages on my phone
Is this possible? I tried the java gmail client but it was awful.
Try emoze for gmail.

Well, I installed emoze but have no idea how to use it. I went to download the user manual from emoze.com but it says it's not available because it's being updated.
I'm using the gmail gateway, no PC involved at all, I ran emoze and entered my username, password and configured the various options, after that it said something about synching, reached 100% and now nothing.
It just shows my username, a greyed out send box, a sign out box, log, settings and accounts button as well as an OK in the upper right. I have no idea how to get or send email via gmail with this app.
Sheesh, the MS application actually pulls down email from my outbox when i send it from my PC. Nice.
I also registered for the emoze forums but need to wait for someone to approve my application.
ok, i think i see, looks like it created a mail account in messages by itself. however i didnt really get a chance to look because my battery is almost dead. apparently i'm going to have to tweak how often messages are pulled. my battery is fine all day with every 10 minutes for exchange, but adding emoze drained it in a few hours.

If you click on the Accounts button and then Open Account (there should already be one account installed there already by now), you can select "push every 30 minutes" for instance. When it's not pushing, emoze goes into "sleep" mode. So battery drain should not be much of an issue. Incidentally, you may STILL select "Always On". Your mileage may vary i suppose...
And you can select your own range of Active Hours. Mine is only on manual i.e. only turned on when I'm on the move. Otherwise, I have my gmail account (the one that's tagged to emoze) to automatically forward email to any of of my OTHER gmail or POP accounts (the ones I use on my desktop at the office daily)
Not as ideal as "always on" blackberry email, but I stopped paying for my blackberry account coz, long term, it just ain't worth it for me. (I was using my Blackberry account on my Dopod 838Pro)
One man's meat... (and all that).
Does Gmail calendar sync work? I keep selecting that checkbox, but when I go back to that screen it's unchecked and no calendar events are being pulled down.

I assume the calendar sync on Emoze is supposed to work with Google Calendar (?).
In any case, I don't use it since I only sync the onboard organizer items (Calendar, Tasks, Notes, Contacts) with my Outlook PST file at home or office via Activesync/PocketInformant .
Which ones do you guys think is better?
The google sync via inputting info in active sync or installing the seven application?
Whats the difference anyway?
Seven! Works better, can be used with any type of email.
Google Sync synchronizes contacts and your calender though I have had many experiences when it has duplicated my contacts
What is Seven?
Look on my software thread, type ctrl+f on your keyboard and type in Seven.
Seven is excellent
Only problem I have is that it occasionally drops my Hotmail password. Doesn't do that with other email accounts so maybe it's Microsoft being difficult, wouldn't be a surprise

One big reason why I'm about to get rid of all exchange info and install seven again. I had the privilege of deleting duplicates.
hmmm...I wasn't expecting the resounding vote for Seven. I've been using Google Sync for while now with no problems. Everything (contacts, calendar, email) is synced with my gmail account so it's easy when I reflash roms to get everything back. And very useful if gmail is your primary webapp for such things from your PC as well...maybe that's what should determine which route you go.
But if I had problems like the above comments...I may feel otherwise. I'll give Seven a look as well to see if there's any benefit for me change.
is Seven for push email only? aren't there a number of ways to get your email? IMAP, or push with google sync or windows live.
To me the kicker is calendar and contacts syncing. I guess combining different apps, ie. seven, myphone, dashwire or something would get you similar features...but google sync is just a couple settings to change.
...If google sync is duplicating your contacts, you can have it not sync contacts and just rely on MyPhone for contacts backup I guess too.

Seven does your calendar and contacts too, as well as tasks.
I like keeping my contacts up to date via pc, so whenever I need to change something I'll just go and sync them up
I've gone back and forth between the two several times. (When I flash a new ROM, I start over). I used Seven happily on a Moto 9h for a year, before Google Sync launched.
Generally, I'd prefer to use Google Sync, just to have fewer intermediary programs. For the first few months of Sync, it had some problems compared to Seven -- attachments weren't always delivered, delivery was a few minutes slower. All those seem to have been cleared up, and now I get messages a few seconds before they show up via IMAP on my laptop.
But Seven is still a great option, and I never had a problem with it. It has one idiosyncrasy on the TP2 -- on the little envelope on the Manila e-mail tab, the preview of the e-mail text doesn't show up. You see subject and sender, but have to click for text. I'm not a big fan of that stupid envelope (would much prefer the full preview that seems to be in Manila 2.5), but as long as I'm using it, I want to be able to see the text.
If either one added the ability to flag a message and have it show up as starred in gmail itself, it would tip the scales. What we really need is a simple, reliable, no-fuss way to use push IMAP to sync mail. Until then, either of these will do fine, and also sync calendar and contacts.
I have always wanted to use google sync exclusively since I use a lot of google's services. However one big drawback is when I use google sync to sync my contacts, the contact pictures become very low-res after transfer.
Does Seven have the same problem?
i dont want to use google b/c they keep a never-ending file of data...alas, microsoft is making it sooo hard to stay away from google, when they allow google to sync contacts, calander, and email, when their own hotmail/live fail/refuse to deliver such a mesh of services...
i simply want to use a single service to sync all of the above...Damn you microsoft...!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL...!!!

Is that Google Sync's doing? That is annoying....it didn't occur to me that it was Google Sync doing that. with Manila 2.1 it's pretty annoying since they have those large contact pictures in the contacts tab...not quite noticeable in 2.5...but still
Thanks "Coderedpl" your reply, Seven may be worth a try at least.
Seven Help
I have been trying to get Seven to install on my Tilt 2 but it won't connect. I get to the last step and it just times out and tells me that it is unable to connect. I have checked all the settings and it still won't work. Does anyone have any idea what I have to do to get it to connect. I used Seven on my Kaiser (Tilt 1) and it was perfect. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

They are having problems with their servers. I checked their forums, pissed me off too much so i switched back to active sync setup method
Does Seven allow you to specify times it should connect eg weekdays during working hours excluding weekends?
Thanks for the info on the servers. I checked it out and they should be up soon. I had it working for a couple days and it was nice. I removed the file it put to run on startup so it wouldnt bring me to the seven menu screen everytime I had to soft reses my phone. (Just a tip for anyone who cares and it didnt affect anything.)
Efjay
It allows you schedule times that you dont want it to push (quiet time). You can adjust the hours you want during the week or weekend.
I always uses google services. Including google calendar / email, etc.
I have set up my wm6.5 with activesync and it sync my email and calendar fine.
However, I found that the activesync will sometimes hog up my mobile's CPU for more than half and hours. I felt the phone unresponsive and heat up fast. I can hardly switch on the task manager but I managed to find the responsible program for this - activesync. It uses up all available CPU for a long long long time. Some times it drains all the battery and my phone just shut down itself. During the time, I will not able to start the activesync client and soft reset is the only solution.
I used to have activesync's schedule set to "As it arrives" but I turn it to like by "2 hours" now. Thing is now better but it still happens.
I can live with high cpu loading while it was checking mail or sync with calendar but I certainly not convinced that it required more than 10 minutes for that.
Please share your experience.
I have tried Google Sync two times. After a couple of syncs that worked OK an error appeared, something like a configuration change in the server, sync error. Then when I synced, all my calendar items were duplicated and all my contacts reversed First Name with Last Name. And the phone was set to overwrite the server if something is wrong/error. Thank to the backup.
Okay.. gotta to change the information. It is NOT related to google service. it is solely the problem of activesync. I have reset my phone and not setting up any sync services. But the activesync kicks in again and once again used up all CPU time. Even with no internet connection. (Radio Off)
This is a ****......... I hate it.
Hmmm... I've never had a problem using Activesync+Google with Laurentius's Rom.
I sync Google Calender with Activesync, contacts with Microsoft MyPhone, and email with my own Pop3 provider (Fastmail).
Good luck
I have both my Exchange account and my Facebook account setup to sync on my Vibrant. The calendar items that sync from Facebook show up fine on the phone and they are in turn synced to Exchange and show up in Outlook. The problem is, they all show up with the wrong time in Outlook... they are all 4 hours early. I live in the Eastern Time Zone, so I think it's that they are listed as Pacific Time. Is there any way to change that?
Also, everytime the phone does a scheduled sync of the Facebook calendar, it adds another copy of the Facebook events to my Outlook calendar. It creates a new one every time. Any suggestions?
For now, I've just had to disable calendar sync for the Facebook account on the phone, but I'd like them to sync.
Doesn't anyone else have their phone syncing with their Exchange and Facebook calendars? If so, do you see the wrong time and duplicates for Facebook calendar items that are added to you Exchange calendar in Outlook?
Someone else must have their phones syncing their Exchange and Facebook calendars, right?
I haven't had this exact problem but something very similar. I use calWidget to display my agenda on my home screen. Any of my face book events that show up on there are behind by 5 hours. When I click to enter the calendar app though, the correct times are listed. This only happens with my facebook events. So you're not alone Yogi, but I have no solution for you.

Thanks for the response. At least now I know I'm not crazy.
You aren't tripping, I have the same exact problem. The only difference is mine are off by 7 hours. Its really pissing me off, and makes my widget totally useless. UGH!!!!!!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yogi, I am currently experiencing the exact same problem here in our office with one user. The question I have, is why is Active sync even pulling in the Facebook calendar events? My user happens to be using the same email address for both Facebook and work email accounts, could that be why Active sync is pulling the events? In any event, if at this point I could get the Facebook events to show up on the users phone and not her outlook that would be fine. The best solution would be to get the FB events to show up properly in her outlook, (they are showing up about 4 hours early) at the right times and not repeating themselves.
Did you find any solutions?

Unfortunately, no, I never found a solution to this.
Hey all, I'm lost on this, maybe I cannot find the feature.
How do you schedule syncing? I can go into settings-accounts & sync, but I don't see anyway to set it up to lets say automatically sync ever hour or every 2 hours.
I'll use my gmail accounts as an example. How can I get them to sync on a schedule, not when the phone itself wants to sync them. Thanks!
Yeah I think I'm a moron becasue I coudn't find the sync buttons anywhere. In my G1 it was pretty easy to find, but not on this phone.
Think button is in accounts, scheduling does not exist here. I think this feature is in droid x
If you go to accounts and do a long touch on your selected account the settings for it will appear. Within this you can change the frequency that your email syncs.
Gmail syncs automatically and its push, that means as soon as you get an email the phone will download it, there is no time to set.
the other accounts (via email app) you can just press the menu button and go to settings when you are in the account and tell it how often you want it to check (5, 10, 15 mintues, etc)

Im pretty sure Gmail does not have "push". Unless they changed it in TouchWiz, Gmail never had push notifications. I use "Tasker" to schedule my syncing every morning at 4am.
I am not sure how long it's been, but it's been a while. I had a blackberry and HD2 and if you use their Gmail app instead of the email app native from the phone, it will be push and that is why there is no setting where you can change how frequent you want it to check. I can send myself an email from my work to my gmail and my phone will alert me whithin 5 seconds no matter how often I send the email... so it is push
