There are a fair amount of aosp and aokp roms for sprint gs4. Can anyone share opinions on which rom is best for lightning fast speed (no lag) and smooth all around? After watching the S4 GE Rom 4.3 by nainfuego on youtube, I am now planning to switch from Touchwiz to Aosp. Also, is Aokp any better than Aosp roms? Thanks

AOKP is an AOSP rom. Honestly, just flash a few and try for yourself.

Well, and what else
Running stock at the moment, had no problems' very snappy.
I like Paranoid Android but almost all are very similar and the devs have done a great job on all the ROMs.

Used codename android and then it became slightly buggy. Running XenonHD and it's smooth and stable. Loving it right now.
Will have to see when 4.2 ROMs get uploaded but so far Xenon finally removed the blue grids around home screens while moving. Left over from tablet UI and I just hate it and CNA still has it.. Don't want to use alternative launchers either.

I feel they are all about the same. PA really is in a league of it's own if you want to utilize their features.
I jump around every few months/weeks. Basically waiting for 4.2 to drop at this point.
AOKP when I feel like tweaks
For performance, eos or rasbean ever since I've learnt to tweaks and theme things myself, I have been not needing the tweaks of ROMs like AOKP
Resbean for now, zip aligned, odexed, tweaked up and super fast

I wanna try RasBean, any bugs so far?
You should change the question as "best rom/kernel combination" since rom's pretty much depend on the kernels to perform well.. Franco R25 is the best so far for my taste and Glazed rom is the pair..

thats just great! cant wait to get the n10 and flash it with a good & nice aosp rom
Yep looking forward to this to. I have been running Siyah Kernel for a couple of weeks and it's great to be able to switch between the stable stock based rom and CM10
Yep same as on the Nexus 7 forums too, looking forward to having 4.2 AOSP on both my Galaxy S3 and Nexus 7:laugh:

Won't take long to CM10-4.2 get released. I guess 4.2 uses the same base and stuff, so won't be a problem. Still, I may stick with Samsung. I love CM10 but not CM10 for i9300. Colors doesn't look good, laggy and a lot of random bugs.
Looking forward to it. Unfortunately cm10 on i9300 is beyond the team's control . If Samsung took their thumbs outta their asses and start releasing the RIGHT source and docs for Xynos, we might actually get somewhere. Its a miracle we've come this far without it.

I see a lot of people comment that Touchwiz ROMs run more smoothly than CM based builds. This is exactly the opposite of my experience. I find the Cyanogen team's work to be second to none, which is remarkable considering they're volunteering their time.

It's freaking me out a bit that my Verizon Galaxy Nexus will get a 4.2 custom ROM before my Nexus 4. WTF?
With the CM vs TW ROM debate, is there one Vanilla ROM that you think proves that theory that they run smoother and faster because I'd love to test it if there is one. I've always also felt that TW runs smoother? Maybe I'm wrong. Is LiquidSmooth a good example?

I think that comment probably did that more than anyone else's. I think it's a perfectly valid part of the discussion. I'm not suggesting we sit here and go back and forth on ROM names. But I'll ask my question in a different way. What is it about the AOSP release that's out there now that isn't working well that will be improved by this 4.2 release? Ultimately, this isn't about one ROM base vs another it's about whether AOSP can be made to work bug-free with the I9300 hardware, isn't it?

I believe it's also to do with what new FEATURES have been added to the new AOSP release and less to do with how much stability it will add (since that is dependent more on Samsung releasing the source than what AOSP has to offer in terms of stability).
Some of us would like to make use of the new features of 4.2 and not have to wait for an official Samsung update.
Having said all this, at the end of the day, that's my point of view and I don't expect everyone to agree.

How is performance from stock to custom ROM? Like is there any Roms that are way faster than stock odexed without any kind of over clocking?

As I'm sure many people will tell you, it mainly depends on what you want. Is customizability very important? If so, I recommend Xylon or AOKP or even Paranoid Android.
If you want great performance look at Raspbeanjelly or CodefireX or PrimeRunner or Xylon.
Do you want a stock-ish look, but still optimized?
Try Stock with Bionic or PrimeRunner.
And now, for kernels.
For performance: Trinity or Franco.
For battery: _Motley or Franco or Harsh.
For amazing tune-ability: Try Faux123
To summarize, these are just my favorites... Your mileage may vary. Also, please try out the ROMs on these forums: they are all fantastic and unique in their own way.
To each their own,
Connor Baker
Is it possible to have stock vanilla android on the gs4 and have the s4 features like hovering hand over locked screen for info?

And I think that would make it stock samsung touchwiz strawberry android. So it's better to use s4 stock roms instead

There will probably be many mods to make the stock Touchwiz look like AOSP.
But if you are planning to flash an AOSP ROM like CyanogenMod you will lose these features since it's software dependent. CyanogenMod can support it if they want but it's unlikely.

I'm having trouble deciding if I should flash cm10.1 nightly or AOKP on my Sprint GS4. What do you folks think would be a better choice especially in terms of stability, battery life and overall performance? Thanks in advance for your help.

Do it yourself. This thread will be deleted... cmon now. You're really that lazy to flash for yourself and find out. Wayyyy too many of these threads.
If you're new to this phone, stick to a touch wiz based Rom. If you want to experiment, then I guess you can go for any Rom. As for battery life, that depends more on the kernel, not that much on the ROM.

Try them out for yourself and see what works best for the way you use it. I tried both, and ended up going to a TW based ROM for features and stability. Then I put on a launcher that was closer to the stock Google launcher. Coming from a Nexus phone TouchWiz was not my friend.
