I couldn't find anything related to what I am seeing, either through Google or the forums. Not sure where the best place to post this is, so here I am!
I purchased one of the ZTE open's that were on eBay for the U.S since I like experimenting with multiple mobiles os's. Received it the other day.
Some issues/possible issues:
-Constant update loop. I keep getting the notifications that there is a system update, when I already did that system update. I'm not sure if the system is not actually updating or the update process is buggy. It looks like I am staying on 1.0.1.0. During the process of downloading the file, it would hang multiple times and I would have to restart it too.
-Facebook contact import. Love going to a new phone with the ability to update either through google, facebook or even both. For some reason it just wont work. I go through the process, sign in and get an error message through which looks like a web page. The message is invalid app id.
-Mail doesn't seem to work, or not work very well. An activesync email address doesn't seems to really be working as I keep receiving an issue of not being able to connect to the server when I do it manually. If i don't do it manually I'm not sure email is being received correctly. For gmail I have to manually fetch emails, but that doesnt work all the time.
-AT&T data connection. For some reason this seems a little sporadic, so not sure if its the area I am in or the phone. Data is turned on. The defaults were set as APN = wap.cingular.com, Username = [email protected] and Password = CINGULAR1. The http proxy boxes are blank.
So, curious to if anyone else here in the U.S is having these issues with the phones they just got? Overall its an interesting, but simple phone. If I could get some of these small things to work I feel it would be a solid phone for my use.

I am having some of the same issues. Namely the update loop and Facebook syncing not working.
I am using T-Mobile right now, but I haven't really used it much to know if the cell data is troublesome or not.
The update issue is a known bug, and was reported Friday. I am currently on T-Mobile with mine, and everything works as far as cell data, SMS, and MMS. I have my Gmail set up in the phone, but haven't bothered to see about updates or checking the settings. I also don't allow FB to import my contacts, so I wouldn't know.
Can't update this damn phone. Can't get MMS text. Becoming more of a problem, rather than a solution. Was going to give it to my dad since it's not too techy, but god damnit, at least have the basic functions working.

Hi guys - I hate to have to write about another prob i'm having with this phone, even though i'm loving it so far (i'm hoping it's user issue).
I can't get the thing to log in via the twitter app/program? just throwing up a could not log in error.
and I did have it working and logged in the other day.
since then i've reset my phone a couple of times due to email issues I had (they weren't receiving and sending either)
Not sure why twitter doesn't let me log in now? the net works fine - facebook app logged in fine too.
Thanks in advance.
I have the same problem and already started a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=586004
It seems to work fine on wi-fi but not 3G
Hmm yea you're right - I'm home now, and I can access my emails and twitter via wi-fi, but not 3G, it did work yesterday, but no idea why not now
it's quite a shame really, really nice phone - but all this is really, an annoyance. it shouldn't be this difficult.
I hope they come out with some kind of fix, so that, whatever details you input (being correct) just work.
T mobile? Remove the proxy in the internet settings, for any other blocks also register your phone on their site and remove the child filter. Experiment with the putting the proxy back on IF the child filter doesnt work, but give it a few hours.
If not T mobile im not so sure but Vodafone also have a child filter.
Rovex, hello - thanks for your reply and suggestions, I shall give it a go!
*edit - pretty sure my child filter is off, will check it again though.
yup, on t-mobile UK.
What's the proxy for if you can get away without it, why do they have it on there at all?
Great bit of advice though. Removing the proxy got my Twitter working now. I've just got to wait for the child lock to come off so I can play with YouTube
Maybe that'll solve the not GMail syncing mail problem too? fingers crossed.

Rovex, top man, that worked a treat! (un-checking the proxy).
***UPDATE***
Figured it out, but still would like to know why it happened. From the Sense Mail screen I was able to got to accounts and see the Yahoo to edit it, which after filling in the boxes for the server names, it showed back up in Winmo. Both the incoming and outgoing mail servers were deleted. But the server names that I typed in didn't actually work. I used some info I found on the web for that, maybe they were wrong? So then I deleted and readded it letting it pull the settings for yahoo that it found. Now it's fine.
Also noticed after the original soft reset that it lost my wifi password, just thought of that. My exchange email has never been affected by whatever this is. What would delete the server settings for my yahoo account and delete the stored password for my wifi connection?
This is a weird issue that I haven't seen discussed on here. It's happened to me twice now. The last time it happened I ended up doing a hard reset.
I have two email accounts on my phone. My Outlook Exchange account and my Yahoo Mail account.
My Yahoo Mail disappears in Winmo on the Messaging\ Email accounts screen. Doesn't even show it listed. BUT it shows up in the preview panes in Sense Mail, but only shows old emails. I can't send receive on the account at all from that Sense Mail screen or anything. I can just flip through what was already there before whatever happened, happened.
If I try to add a new account via Email accounts screen, it tells me that account is already on the phone. So it knows the account is on my phone, just won't let me access it.
Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I don't mind hard resetting again, but I would love to know why it is happening.
Ive had the same issue happen to me twice so far also. Looks liek the new mail app maybe the culprit as I have had this happen on the diamond before with the new build.
This happened to me again today and here is exactly what it happening, yet I don't understand why.
First thing I noticed today was that I had no data connection. So I checked wireless control panel and sure enough it was disabled... So I tried to enable it. No love. gave me an error and took me to the network setup screen.
Then I looked and my Yahoo account was missing again from the windows email screen, yet still showing up in sense.
Back to the data situation: I had to edit the Tmobile connection settings and click ok through all of the screens. Once I did that, my Data connection was back.
Back to yahoo: I had to edit it through sense and it had lost both incoming and outgoing mail servers and my password. Tried to manually enter Yahoo's mail servers and it still doesn't work. Once I delete it and add it back, (letting it find the server info on it's own), it will work fine again... But for how long?
It's driving me a little batty...
Same issue has happened to me. Happens when I run out of battery or let the phone drain. Also when I reset phone while an app is running. Let me know if you guys find a fix for this.
it happens on stock and on custom roms. havent seen a fix yet
Happened to me again today. It's not specific to the shipping ROM because I have the new 2.13 ROM on my phone and this is the first time it has happened since I upgraded to the new ROM...
Gotta be something simple.
Even I've had the same problem twice..and in addition to losing the email accounts, all my apps which required login like facebook, fring, etc stopped remembering usernames and passwords. Even if I selected save password, it kept asking me everytime is started the app.
The first time it happened i did not notice why, but the second time it happed immediately after a soft reset done using BSB Tweaks after making some changes in it.
I have removed BSB Tweaks for the time being, so will wait and see if it happens again.
this happened both the times after upgrading to the 2.13 official ROM.
I don't have BSB Tweaks installed and it has happened to me multiple times. I usually lose most of my saved passwords as well in the other programs...
Lost E-Mail in 2.13 T-Mobile ROM
After upgrading to the new T-Mobile 2.13 ROM, I've had two instances where the email server settings have been lost. Same as described by others. Old emails show in Sense, but when I hit the soft button for my Inbox, I'm taken to the email setup screen.
If I cancel out and go to the setup screen through Sense, I find that everything is present except the inbound and outbound servers. Once I restore these everything is back to normal until the next time it happens.
It also happen to me. I believe this is because of the 2.13 update by T-MO.
Glad this thread exists. I ran in to this issue today too.
Hi guys
I have a HD2 with the Stock ROM 1.66, all working fine until recently, where both my Gmail accounts are blank, every folder is empty, Send/Receive runs, Connecting > Logging on > looking for Changes > Updating Folders > Disconnecting.
No email is downloaded, Ive tried removing accounts and re-adding, checking the deletion and day threshold settings, and its still not download any at all.
The only thing ive done recently is installed SPB keyboard which ive removed, and the Excalibur Android Loader app, which is also now removed. I also changed a registry setting under HTC Album to ignore the .thumbnails folder, but nothing else.
Help!!
My Outlook sync probably works fine, but because i dont have a valid SSL cert on exchange yet, i cant test with that.
Thanks
Does your email account work fine via webmail?
works fine via webmail.
Okay ive found the problem after hours of investigation, the date was set to 2011 for some reason, so it was connecting and seeing no emails for that date!!!
Thanks

I'm having the same issue. It checks email and comes back with the current time as the refresh time, but doesn't show any new emails. I have found a trick that if I go into the settings for that mail account and just click through them without changing anything, it will receive the current mail. Unfortunately I have to do that every time I want mail from that IMAP email. The unfortunate side effect is that it also resets default settings for emial size and frequency.
Where was the date field that you are talking about above?
I just went to my phone's date/time setting and it was set to automatic from server. I toggled it to manual and back to automatic. Now it's receiving emails again. That may have fixed it. I'm a little skeptical as I have done little things here and there which will may it update and retrieve email once, but it never seems to work on its own without my tinkering with it. We'll see. If it is still working tomorrow, I'll report back here to let everyone know.
So I tried it again this morning and it isn't working again. So that wasn't it. Also, one correction to my last post ... my IMAP isn't empty it just won't receive new mail. I hit refresh and the sync symbol spins and then shows the current time as if refreshed but no new email pop in. It also does this so fast that it cannot possibly be logging in and checking before it returns with no mail. Still frustrated. Let me know if anyone figures this out.
PS - as additional info, I own my own domain and email hosting through Rackspace. Since my wife has the same setup (Domain and sakes rackspace account) I added her email to my phone and it works fine (tried over several days). So now I'm really baffled.
Solved! Android 2.2 stopped receiving emails (T-Mobile)
Solved! Android 2.2 stopped receiving emails (T-Mobile)
Ok, I have spent countless hours researching and troubleshooting this and I think I have the solution. Apparently, Android's native email software has difficulty with certain things, "Flagged" emails being one of them. I.E. those emails you flag different colors to follow up on later.
I have tried everything I could find on the issue and this seems to be what worked for me.
Background (Just in case this helps you):
Phone: T-Mobile HTC HD2 running Android 2.2 NAND
Issue: Email worked fine on multiple accounts for over a year on this phone, then one day one of my personal IMAP account stopped receiving emails. Gmail and my Exchange accounts still worked fine. However, my IMAP account would say it is "Syncing/Refreshing Messages" and come back with the current time stamp, but would not pull in any of the new messages. My only work around until now was to run through the email account setup for Incoming mail server, Outgoing (SMTP) mail server, etc. Then it would work, but only once. If I wanted my new mail again, I would have to repeat that process. About a day or so before I began having issues, I had flagged several emails for future follow-up. I read a post that mentioned that in passing so I tried it. I went into Outlook and unfledged all the emails I had flagged.
Solution: Un-flag all emails in your INBOX. Then wait 4-12 hours.
NOTE! At first it didn't work, but after a few hours I started getting my emails and have been getting everything fine since (last 48hours). I guess it takes time to propagate in the system or something.
I hope this helps!

This is what i need and this is not supported by vanilla Android ROM.
Only touchdown and HTC sense support this.
So this work for you but only for basic security, not like 95 % of enterprise companies out there...

I have used my phone with two different "enterprise" companies and have not had an issue.
No issues here either. Using a major law firms exchange.
Liking the update to include signatures on replies now. That's the way it should be.
Exchange Sync Issues
I also had (have?) issues and I mentioned them as part of another note on my overall response to 2.3.3. (in a phrase, not worth it) but nobody else seemed to be interested in that thread. So, welcome.
2.3.3. on my stock N1 has suffered the following problems:
1. Would not connect to Exchange server after I updated to 2.3.3
2. So I cleared data in "email" app, forced close, and tried to reinstall from
Home>Menu>Accounts. Also rebooted.
3. When trying to install from Home>Menu>Accounts I found NO PROVISION FOR MANUAL SETUP, i.e., manually entering domain name and exchange server ID; you can only enter your email address and password. The Gingerbread Manual mentions there is provision for manual setup in case of problems, but they don't tell you that you have to. . .
4. Set up from eMail App in the App drawer. When I set up that way there is a button for Manual Install.
5. Without Manual Install it is probable that your phone is assuming a domain name or ID that is wrong, and it will never connect.
6. After the successful re-install and use for about a day, 2.3.3. wiped out my server connection again arbitrarily (I never turn the phone off/on, etc.; it just did it) and I had to set up again.
This is definitely a BUG in 2.3.3--very definitely the inability to manually set up from any screen on which you can set up an account.
Same problem here, although it looks that Exchange is setup correctly -following instructions of ecdy, there is NO data synchronization at all with my exchange account! As under Froyo there were no problems at all, this MUST be a Gingerbread bug. Anybody any solution, workaround, please?
N1, unrooted stock, 2.3.3. OTA.

I do believe there is an issue with not having the manual setup option. I read somewhere on here that someone got the manual option after the automatic setup failed 10 times. A bug yes, but once account is set up, everything works as it should.

No, pity, NOTHING works as it should - read my post above, please. Since Gingerbread (N1, stock, unrooted, 2.3.3. OTA) exchange sync lost, although it LOOKS set up correctly (accepts all, password, username) does NOT sync mail, calendar!
Anybody any solution please?
Strange thing noticed: after OTA Gingerbread Hotmail account in mail survived, exchange account (company) went lost.. Anything to do with problem?

I did a manual upgrade to GB (clean upgrade). Maybe the OTA has broken something.
Exchange Sync problems
As far as other email accounts are concerned: GMail worked fine; Yahoo! Mail, which was originally set up in the OS's "Accounts" mode, didn't work. Downloading the Yahoo! Mail App fixed that.
Maybe there's a Hotmail app too.
It sounds like bmszabo isn't getting refreshed (synced); check all accounts settings that adjust sync frequency and do a "sync now" to see if it works.
Before I erased all the data in my Exchange a/c on the phone I would get a screen with all my emails and contacts up to the point where I had installed 2.3.3, but nothing thereafter. The phone will store old data but if it can't connect to the server it won't add anything new. Why does bmszabo say "it LOOKS set up correctly (accepts all, password, username)"? It will remember the correct pwd and username as you put them in, along with an incorrect domain name and server, and never be able to connect.

Sorry, trying to explain things happened since GB OTA upgrade: after setting up exchange account, Exchange sync setup looks allrite, after asking about administrator priorities (and accepting them) sync sign turns green, looks like account setup correct, shows empty mailbox, but it DOES NOT sync with my mail, neither with calendar; as a matter of fact, my exchange calendar does not even show up on the list of calendars in Agenda...
O yes, forgotten: manual sync, although green wheel spins shortly, does not change a thing, neither..
Another similar issue with Exchange not syncing came up with CM 6.1.1. The fix was to reinstall the Email.apk.

Firstly, you enter email and password. If you want to include domain name - you write your email like this: domain\[email protected]
After you enter it, whether it fails or succeeds - it presents you with manual setup screen.

5 % pf the companies uses Exchange security? you must be kidding right? what my company is asking for in term of security is just basic. So i cannot believe that sorry.
This is really basic functionalities for security. It works on iphone, on Sense, on Symbian, but not on Android. So i am not getting it. If it works everywhere else than Android, it means that definitively more than 5 % of companies are requiring these basic security features.
My 2 cents of course and nothing personal!

What I am saying is that there are plenty of people who are able to connect to their Exchange servers just fine which do HAVE exchange security enabled. Maybe your company has additional security restrictions enabled. If so, then your company will fall in the 5% subset.

I am using cyanogenmod 7 RC1 (gingerbread) and have tried multiple roms including googles vanilla and NONE of them have supported my company's exchange setup. This was supposed to be fixed in froyo and for people using sense it is fixed.
Basically when i manually setup activesync it says the phone doesn't support the security features.
Who cares if my company uses extra security or not. It works on HTC and iphone/ipad.
Google is basically doing half assed exchange support and I will keep telling people they will probably need to shell out for touchdown if they move to android until they fix it.
Google needs to support ALL ACTIVESYNC SECURITY settings, anything less isn't good enough.
I think You are right; Exchange sync (cal, mail) worked PERFECT with Froyo, and with Gingerbread it is completely lost.. I don't think any firm can do this to customers using their OS, and I do hope somebody gots a solution soon (or: Google fixes the issue?).
In the meanwhile: as I cannot use my company mail/ calendar: I wish I stayed with Froyo!!

Guys,
As of this evening I have hit upon a problem whilst attempting to refresh my Yahoo email account.
Up until this evening everything was fine.... The Email widget refreshed my Yahoo account every 15mins and showed me any new emails received.
However, this evening I noticed I had not received any new messages for quite some time so I went into the Email app and manually hit refresh and it was then I came across a warning message at the top of the email apps page saying "Connection problem".
This then activated a Notification saying "Couldn't sign in" followed by "The username or password for myemailaddress.com is incorrect. Update them now".
However, they are both correct. Nothing I do will sort out the issue.
Has anyone else come across this problem and if so how did you sort it out.
Thanks
I have come across the same exact issue with yahoo mail on an iPhone several times. I have concluded that it is a server problem. Give it a day or two and it will start working again as did mine.

Thanks but I'm not so sure about this. Maybe the issue you had was extremely similar.... Did you manage to access your email from an Online web server?
I can access mail from the Web Browser so I don't think it''s a server issue.
The GMail App works fine, so something has become corrupted along the lines.
Tried deleting the account and creating a new one.... that didn't work.
Yes, I was able access my yahoo mail using a web browser. The first time that issue occurred, I also tried everything you have tried to include restoring the firmware on my iphone to no avail. I gave up and a day or two later, it starting working again. Since then, I have had this issue at least twice. You may have a different problem but the symptoms are quite similar.

SOLVED..... You were correct. It was the server.
What I did in the end was from the Online Web Server I signed in using the current password then changed it to a different one.
I then went to my Nexus 7 and changed the password to reflect the updated password.
BINGO..... It synced.
So somewhere along the lines it was the server that was not allowing the old password to work correctly.
Thanks.
Would appear I spoke too soon.... The damn things playing up again. Same problem, keeps teling me it's the wrong password. Only this time I can't use the same method to fix it, as it does not matter how many times I change the password on the server the Nexus 7 Email app keeps saying it's wrong.
So, any ideas guys?
