Looking for a sports tracking app - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I ride mtb in my spare time and i would like to track my progress with my phone. There is alot of tracking apps on the market but they only use the gps but I am looking for an app that takes advantage of all the sensors that is in the galaxy s4 especially one that uses the barometer to messaure the elevation because the GPS is not very precise. Do any of you guys know if an app like this excist, hope you can help

GPS Lock on the tab kinda slow

Hi,
On my tab, the gps lock in Google maps or any other maps seems kinda slow when compared to that of my HD2 running WM6.5...also, it seems to lose the gps connection quite often when driving around and then takes a lot of time to lock back in.
Anyone else noticed this? And any way of improving the gps lock? A nudge in the right direction would be really helpful.
Thanks

I thought my DroidX was slow. It now seems fast compared to the tab.

My hd2 is faster then my tab too but my tab is fast enough and dont loose signal

I did a direct comparison of the Tab versus my Nexus 1, without fail the N1 would find more satellites, and find them faster, than the Tab does. Seems odd as I would've thought the Tab would have a larger antenna for such things.
Data on / wifi on? A-GPS and GPS or just GPS.
Makes a big difference on mine for sat-fix time.
I find the lock on my Tab QUITE fast... usually within 10 seconds. I even get locks inside my home sometimes (allbeit weak)
When Im using it as a gps unit in my car it more or less locks on by the time the route is finished calculating in Navigator.
Mine takes its time to get the satellites but once is done it works like a charm. Unlike my galaxy s wich get the satellites very fast but looses signal very often and has no precision at all.

Are you all using jm6 or jma sine you started to have slow GPS lock time?

mine locks with 10 satellites in less than 15 secs inside house. JM6
@vs2 - tried with both gps and data on...
@clubtech - am in India and the latest firmware update released for my region is JK3 (which I updated yesterday)...does that make a difference?

@spirit - I get a lock of 4-7 satelites outside in non-obstructed space at Max...that too drops down quickly to 3/4...

Wierd problem with the gps

Hi
i'm having a weird problem with my gps.
I get up to 10 satellites in view but the gps keeps losing the connection.
The phone just came yesterday from Samsung with a new board. Also my galaxy never got so many satellites in view.
Any idea?
Thanks.

This is not a 'weird' problem anymore

Why?
The gps before didn't got more than 1 sat in view now i get about 10 so Samsung did improve something by replacing the main board.
Is there any other config or rom to improve GPS performance?

Is there a way to block purchases?

Just got a nexus 7, and have a 5 year old. I'm worried of I add a credit card to market she may purchase apps, or make in app purchases. It's there a way to lock both ? Until I'm the verified user?

Very relevant concern.
You can set up a pin under settings in the Google play app.
I have one - works fine.

Thanks for the reply. Will that also block in app purchases?

I think so. The few I've seen all need to open the play store.
None of my three daughters has managed to buy anything since I put a pin on.
It won't block the download of free apps though - so you might still need to uninstall a few apps after your kids have given the Nexus a spin.

download visidon and just set a pw to your app store that way they cant get in it.

You could try kidmode (available on the market for free) I use it to limit the apps and games my nephew plays when he comes round.

I have a pin setup thru playstore settings yet my 3 year old was allowed to purchase something from bad piggies, in app purchase. I emailed them because it should have never been allowed

How did that end up? Did they refund?

S health question

In the latest update of S healh there's a new stress level indicator, here in Canada even with the latest update i can't find it in S health... The change log says available in certain countries... I guess Canada is not one of them. Is there a way to still get the feature working ?
Thank you

I'm in the same boat. Did a tonne of research on the Internet, only to find mildly constructive suggestions such as "reboot your device".
So, like a self-respecting sheep I rebooted and rebooted till my reboot finger fell off and I no longer can reboot.
Since I lost a finger, I was forced to type this with my ear.
Still missing the stress sensor feature on S Health, Rogers SM- G900W8
What versions are your S Health apps? Mine is version 3.2.0.0003 and has the stress level module.
I have the same version and dont have the stress level indicator...

V3.2.0.0003 in Canada doesn't have stress sensor. What kind of devilish taunt is this ?
Sent from my SM-G900W8 using Tapatalk
I have 3.2.0.0003 in South Africa with the stress level module. It appears to just measure your heart rate for a bit longer that normal. Maybe it picks up irregular beats?

Strange. I'm on the Bell network, running AllianceROM 3.1 and I have the stress level indicator.

I have a feeling that it is because you are running a custom ROM which has disabled country-wise restrictions.
Or maybe one of the Samsung execs got hit by a hockey puck covered in maple syrup and thus now they hate us
Another question about S Health, but slightly off topic..
Has anyone been able to get the Runkeeper app to sync with S Health? In settings I have the sync option turned on, but it doesn't seem to carry over any information, which is extremely frustrating.
I use runkeeper to track my gym training as well as other options that S Health doesn't support (Rowing, Stair climbing, skating, etc) but even with the sync option turned on, nothing that I've tracked in Runkeeper shows up in S Health.
Any info would be great..

Use of barometer in Nexus 6P

Not sure if this has been asked earlier in this forum. How are you using the barometer? I mean to say any particular apps that can make full use of the barometer and how do they work?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Google Play Services uses the barometer to calculate altitude, which can then be used in conjunction with GPS for faster locks and better accuracy.

An app like SysPressure uses it to measure for weather patterns etc.
