Hello XDA community.
I have a Samsung S4 provided by Sprint. I have rooted the device and I am running on MF9. When I enable the hotspot and connect to my computer I am unable to connect to certian websites such as break.com yourdailymedia.com extratorrent.com and similiar websites. Does anyone know how I can get sprint to stop blocking access to these websites? I have looked at sprints parental controls on my account and everything is off. I have looked in the ##3285# menu and cannot see anything I can do there to fix this.
Help will be greatly appreciated.

Did you use crawrj's Hotspot Mod?

I had a previous thread asking about the wifi tether app. I downloaded version wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre14 and installed it... seemed to work when I locked onto it using my computer. It recognized it as an ad-hock network I think (in windows it shows 3 monitors connected in a triangle) to use it but it worked fine. Now while trying to find the SSID I assigned with my Verizon Galaxy Tab it doesn't show. Any ideas or settings I'm missing to link the 2?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
The tab and most other mobile devices won't recognize ad-hoc network connections. However, you can adjust the settings, using info in a post on this site, to use the stock 3G Hotspot app in AP/infrastructure mode and your tab would connect with no issues.

Maybe u should probably try a different version.... I have 2.0.5-pre11 installed on my Evo; and I tether with my Sprint Galaxy Tab no prob.
I'll try that and post back to let you know.
The version you use likely won't have any effect. The HTC Incredible and EVO seem to have the ability to present themselves as infrastructure mode access points with the wireless tether application, whereas other devices, like the Galaxy S phones do not. I could, of course, be wrong on some of the technical details, but I don't believe I've heard of anyone being able to tether another Android device to a Galaxy S device wirelessly, due to the ad hoc limitations. If somebody finds a way and proves me wrong, then great! But as I said before, I don't think any currently available version of Wireless Tether can do it, nor can the alternate Barnacle app.

No go with any of the builds of the wi-fi tether app. My Galaxy Tab just won't show it listed when searching for the SSID. Not sure what to do other than a USB or bluetooth link. sucky!
The QPST hack will work.

My iPad tethered without any problem.
When I tethered with a MacBook, I was not able to get any video chat apps to work. Tried MSN, Google Talk etc. Anybody has suggestions on this?
I was able to get it working thanks to Deodexed pointing me to his walkthrough. Here is the link for anyone else having troubles getting an ad-hoc connection on their Tab.

Hey guys,
Hopeing someone has some usefully information. I've been looking online and the forums for any help but haven't been able to find any answers that I'm looking for in reguards to the built in Wi-fi hotpsot for andriod 2.2.1 stock release. I use my hotspot at work a lot and was wondering if anyone knows of any ways to disconnected or premanently block someone off of my network. The hotspot doesn't seem to have any way of booting someone off of of my network outside of setting it to onle 1 connection available and hoping some **** doesn't beat me to the connection while my computer connects. Theres someone in the office that has their phone to just simply connect to any network I'm guessing and he continues to latch on to my hotspot even though its WPA encrypted. If anyone has any useful info or can recommend a program to use with an un-rooted phone I would be very thankful.
Thanks guys!
Does anyone have any info that can help me?
If your hotspot is encrypted, he can't use it. He can try to connect to it, but he won't get his network working.
And you can use the "Manage users" feature of the hotspot in Sense, and enable MAC address confirmation for each user - so he won't even get allowed to connect.
Well thats the thing, I've been looking through the manage users option and it only gives me the Mac address of the **** trying to connect to my network. It doesn't give me the option to do anything except "hers their mac and their ip" and most of the time it just shows "ip: not available" THere are only 2 options that I see and thats "Allowed users only" and "Max. Connections" Where in sense would my MAC filter option be available?
usb tether?
Before turning on the hot spot, go to portable wifi hotspot settings. There you can set it to where you need a password to connect to your network.
I use wep security. You can put whatever password you want.
I downloaded open garden and google wireless tether. Neither seemed to work properly. When I hit "start tethering" I just get the message "please wait while starting." Nothing else happen. It also does not show up under my list of wireless networks. I went to both web sites, and do not see a faq or instructions. I also looked at some youtube videos, and their advice was not consistent.
In order to tether, do you have to get rid of the verizon mobile hotspot; do I need to change settings? Do I need to first install on desktop, and then drag files to a specific location on the phone?
Wireless tethering seems pretty common, so I am not sure why its hard for me to find information on how to accomplish this.
I have also updated my phone to Froyo.
Update: I got Google wireless tether to connect to laptop. Looks like I am good to go. Thanks
Im using google wireless tether beta 3.11 and under settings I choose Samsung fascinate and it loads fine,

Hi,
Trying to use Samsung Galaxy Tab 4s and connecting them to a corporate network, I can connect the devices fine using a certificate, but as soon as i attempt to add a manual proxy the tablet crashes and doesn't save the settings. I've done the same thing with Samsung Galaxy S5s (4.4.3) and they work absolutely fine.
I've used KIES to update the tablets and that doesn't seem to resolve the problem either. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

G,
hi, just to be clear, i don't know about proxy setup, BUT what you said with regards to the certificate got me to thinking
maybe it's security related, specifically from this thread as a thought, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938482
A) Ask your company IT system admin to allow your MAC ID to access the internet.
Also maybe something in this thread as to your process, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975791
an unrelated device but discusses reboot issues when setting proxy manually,
Also, though i can't find the thread, i remember reading about rooting/tripping knox making devices disqualified/blacklisted/unusable
for enterprise mode.
hope that points you in a helpful direction.

Hey thanks for your help!
what is strange is that it doesn't seem to happen on the phone, although they are configured very similarly. There is nothing on the network that is blocking Mac addresses, or even the device type! its quite similar to the issue in the link you posted, but i couldn't really find a solution in that link!

"Mobile HotSpot on AT&T grandfathered Unlimited Plan" If you have a regular At&t plan the hotspot is easily employed...... I have the grandfathered plan that sends me the "Call 611 to enable."
Does anyone have a way to employ the mobile hotspot on the Galaxy G935A? Seeing as there is no root, is there any coding or permission tweaks I can try to get the Hotspot to work?
FoxFi works with tethering, but turns up a 10246 permission error for Hotspot. I though I had it when I kept the system from checking my plan with At&t.....But eventually, the system picked up on the blocking I employed.
Two main reasons for me to root are Viper4Android, which there is not get-around. The second is the Mobile Hotspot. When I travel with my kids, they used to use my Rooted G3 to play Youtube, games, and interactive apps to keep them busy on long road trips.
My choices, buy a G935F on Ebay and root it.....but then I would have to sell my G935A.
Someone miraculously figures a way to root.
I find a work-around and change "permissions."
I'm leaning toward the new phone, just hate spending $700 on Ebay with electronics.......
Any help is appreciated, even the slap of reality to "just get the F" and quit screwing around with the A.....

Can someone help me try this? THERE ARE NO MODIFICATIONS HERE
-I opened the mobile Hotspot app, set it up while I was connected to my home wifi network.
It worked, but used my home network as the hotspot.
-Next, I shut my wifi off and expected the error, but the phone hotspot transferred to the 4g, as long as I didn't turn the hotspot off.
I also tried this at an open cafe wifi hotspot, then turned off the phone wifi again, the hotspot remained working as long as I didn't hit the back button.
* I did get a tetherprovision.apk error, but it didn't shut the phone mobile hotspot off.
I tried this on my wifes S6 Edge, but it didn't work. Can someone try the S7 and S7 edge G935A
***To make sure it was the phone hotspot, I checked ip addresses before and after the WIFI was turned off. Ip adress changed from where I live to a place in Maryland, so fairly sure it wasn't just a fluke, but that is why I need someone to test it........Thanks

I had the same challenge (unlimited data but no tether provisioning) and wanted to tether without giving up my awesome plan or pissing off my employer (my corporate plan includes international LTE roaming -- amazing!). Being unable to root and having unsuccessfully tried FoxFi (gave me an error message about internal connectivity or somesuch) I discovered Samsung already has an app for this called SideSync. It requires a USB cable but is able to set up its own hotspot.
I'm using a Mac laptop with SM-G930A and after installing SideSync on both the Mac and the phone, and launching both, I can detect the phone connection (apparently this works better when the app is running in the background but not on its home screen). Then I can click the "More" button on the Mac side and launch "Enable Mobile Hotspot". You'll need to give it MTP and several other access permissions the first time, but it should create and configure a WAP of the form "SIDESYNC_HOTSPOT_##:##" and connect the Mac to it. This works even if your phone provisioning wouldn't normally allow it. Easy!

I am on Win 10, I will try and find Sidesync, or an equivalent thanks! But, that is exactly what I was looking for!
If I find a Windows equivalent, I will repost.
Thanks again,.
I found it but it says both devices utilize the same wifi connection. Will it Direct Connect them and use 4g as the wifi?

Not sure what you mean by utilizing the same wifi connection -- It is NOT the WiFi Direct feature if that's what you mean..if the phone is connected in that mode, this will need to be turned off first. Mine handles the setup of the hotspot automatically (at least on Mac). It's a little wonky but usually works on the first try. And yes... once it's working, the phone shows that it's got a device connected via wi-fi sharing icon, and the laptop shows it's using SIDESYNC_HOTSPOT.

If figured it wasn't the Direct. It installed and loaded right up, but it disconnected on the PC side every few seconds. I think it might be my A.V. software......I'm going to mess around with it this weekend to see if that's the issue. Thanks for tips.
So sidesync is a hotspot app, must be installed on all devices that want to connect to hotspot (in this case galaxy g930a). Is this correct?
