A while ago i flashed leaked android 4.3 from here:

and suddenly i realized that i have lost root access. I can't get into recovery (TWRP)
What should I do? Please help!
why do you think that you wouldnt lose root after flashing stock? and you didnt lose your recovery, it got replaced by stock recovery, as always when you flash stock. you need to flash your custom recovery of choice via fastboot, then flash the su binaries via your newly reflashed custom recovery. thats all. a simple search would have found you the answer, because mamy people get stuck there after every single new android version. to prevent this from happening, do some research before flashing anything.

TWRP is still there because when small update comes (3.9 MB) is doesn't install. Instead it reboots into TWRP

Hi everyone, I'm having a hell of a time trying to update my phone from 4.2.2 to 4.3 (stock rom). I have searched the forums (or tried to) and have done general Google searches, but nothing with my problems came up. I rooted my phone a while back, lost root when my phone updated to 4.2.2, then used wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit to get it back. Ever since 4.3 came out, I have been unable to update. I was using TWRP, and when updating through the phone it would simply dump me back there and not continue. I was then instructed to manually flash through TWRP, which I tried to do, but halfway through the flash it simply stops. I believe it said "signature verification failed". Someone had me try using the NRT to push the update as well, but that hasnt worked either. It just fails.
After asking around some more, I was instructed to flash the stock recovery, which I have now done. Now when I try to update (through the phone), it takes me to stock recovery, starts installing the update, and (yet again) halfway through the android guy just has an X on it and it says "failed". With Kit Kat supposedly coming out in two days, I really want to be ready to get the update asap. Could anybody help me out?
Also, if possible I would like there to be a way to do so without losing the data on my phone. But its not necessary.
I am sorry if this same problem has come up before. I tried going through other threads and the ones suggested after typing in the thread title.
Why don't you just use the toolkit to bring you back to stock and unroot? Once that is done you will get the update OTA
I am on stock, and I am getting the update OTA. It is just failing to install every time I try to install the update.
Your did something wrong when going back to stock. Did you unroot and relock the boot loader?

Or you can just flash all the .img file of the 4.3 using adb.

I did same thing without any problems after I unrooted and installed stock kernel.
Just use Wug toolkit and factory 4.3 image.
Now open image and extract radio, bootloader and system img.
Now use Wug and flash only these img.
Then reroot and start flashing custom kernel or roms.

Without thinking (doink) tried to install the latest OTA.
OTA failed.
Now I cannot reboot into TWRP.
Installed ClockwordMOD and installed its own custom recovery. Still won't boot into any custom recovery.
Phone works fine other than that.
How can I get back into custom reccovery?
Note: When I turn phone off and try to reboot into custom recovery it takes me to the "reset" screen.. and then IT RESETS the phone.
When I try to boot into recovery from Clockwork or TWRP app it gives me the android robot with the open tummy and red triangle.

The OTA update installed the KitKat bootloader, which hasn't been hacked for custom recovery yet.
Use this to downgrade the only the bootloader and install custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
You have to root frist. You can use IORoot25 to root the KitKat rom that you have now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232

Ok.
The KITKAT rom didn't install properly..
Phone says 4.2.2
Super user and apps that need root to work are working properly. Looks like the bootloader is the only thing that got hit.

Oh. Not sure if AutoRec works if you are still on 4.2.2. Sorry bout that.
If it doesn't work, you can always just manually flash the complete firmware using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476. Surest way to get back from failed flashes. You can flash the full 4.2.2 or 4.4.2 KDZ and then start over again. That method wipes everything though.

YIKES.
Well.. it got the TWRP recovery loaded alright.
But it won't boot into anything else...light is flashing but screen is black.

save yourself the hassle flash stock 4.4.2 KK, use IORoot25 to root and then use Autorec to install Custom recovery.
Time needed 1 hour.

I was running 4.4.3 Rooted with TWRP recovery. Bootloader was unlocked.
I accepted the 4.4.4 OTA update and when it was done I found I lost root.
Tried to go into recovery to install Supersu.zip but had also lost TWRP.
Just got the dead android with the ! mark.
My Boot loader is still unlocked. I ran fastboot. Verified that I got a device id with Fastboot devices.
Then used Fastboot to install openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-manta.img
Completed with no errors. Rebooted the device and then shut it down.
Rebooted into Fastboot, selected recovery and I still get the dead Android with the ! mark.
What did I do wrong?

If you want to stay stock here you go. Look at the last page or so and it also has a link to the newest TWRP which you need to get going again.

No, I don't want to stay stock. I want to be able to install TWRP so I can flash SuperSu.zip and get root back. When I do a fast boot install of the TWRP Image, it completes with no errors but when I reboot into recovery, I get the dead Android with the exclamation point not TWRP

Since you took the OTA your bootloader may be locked. After you get it unlocked I gave you where to get the recovery you need, the one you have is not KitKat friendly.

Well, you didn't do anything wrong per se. When you flash the OTA (which I assume you did in TWRP), you lose root and your custom recovery since it replaces it with stock. You did the right thing by fastboot flashing your custom recovery back. However, the only thing you did "wrong" was rebooting into the Android OS instead of booting into the newly flashed recovery first. After you flash the custom recovery, select the recovery option in the bootloader, and it will boot into your custom recovery. If you don't boot directly into your custom recovery, and instead boot into the OS, the recovery will revert back to stock, which is why you saw the dead Android with the ! mark (that is the stock recovery). Just fastboot flash TWRP again, and boot straight into it. Then, just flash the SuperSU zip and reboot system. You should be good to go.
EDIT: Oh, and having an unlocked bootloader has no effect on receiving an OTA or your ability to flash it. If your bootloader was unlocked before flashing an OTA, it will remain unlocked. The only way it would become locked again is if you locked it yourself. You can even completely flash the stock image, and the bootloader will remain unlocked.

I accidentally tried doing a factory reset, and flashing an incorrect rom. So I lost the stock rom, and have no other rom to use. I tried using TWRP to flash ASUS's stock firmware from asus's support website, under firmware. Using firmware file: "UL-Z00T-WW-1.16.40.763-user.zip"
but TWRP tells me "E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/TWRP/Stock.zip'
Error flashing '/sdcard/TWRP/Stock.zip"
I still have access to both adb, fastboot, and TWRP but I cant get an OS to install.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, haven't even had this phone a day yet, and already may have broken it.
I don't have an answer to your question , just got this phone yesterday and am in the process of figuring out how to root and install a custom recovery for this specific device.. I have found many methods to root but none for my specific model. I think you have the same model as I do and was hoping you could lead me to the place that will give me the files I need.. the box my phone came in has the model as ASUS_Z00TD (ZE551KL).. Sorry I wasn't of any help to you, hope you manage to figure out how to flash something that will get your device running again!

Happy to know that it works for you.
Whenever you got stuck in this situation, just flash stock recovery & you will able to flash stock rom again.

If so, I've tried that, and TWRP still boot when I try to enter recovery. Also, once I've flashed the stock recovery, do I just place the firmware on the root of the sdcard as 'update.zip' and try to install it from there?

This is not stock recovery, this one is twrp recovery.
once you flashed stock recovery, flash stock rom as you do it.

This morning I my phone pesented itself in TWRP.
Maybe this is because over the past days I repeatedly got notifications that a system upgrade wanted to install itself (I have a modified 26s X720 from Tora33).
I rejected those notifications.
Now I am stuck in TWRP and I cannot get around it. What I tried:
Reinstalling previous firmware (Tora33 26s) still on the phone
Restoring a TWRP backup from 6 months ago (TWRP didn't see it, maybe it's from a previous TWRP version, I now have v. 3.1)
Flash via fastbood factory image using Mauro's Tool All In One (error message "can't find file mke2fs.conf")
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system; then install Mauro_V2.2 cleansed 23s firmware which I transferred to the phone
Every time it boots up in TWRP.
Your bricked you never flash ota with twrp you should read before doing anything.
The only thing that can help is ofil.
I suggest you study well before trying it.

Oh boy. Thanks anyway. OTA flashed itself, couldn't stop it. Maybe I made it worse by trying to fix.
The bootloader is not locked according to the AIO tool. I can flash succesfully any firmware, only after flashing the phone will still boot in TWRP. It is strange it still boots in TWRP. Is there no simpler trick like flashing the standard recovery and then flashing OFW?
You mention Ofil; do you think the guide described here work?

Yes, that QFIL guide is for the x720.
In my opinion, the best way to return stock is to push update.zip into phones main folder, then install stock recovery, then in this one install update zip then check that OS is working. If it is, then go into twrp and wipe. Can't do it?

If he was just going back stock that would work he flash 28s ota with twrp so this will not work.

No brick after OFW push 28s
The pushed (unvoluntary) update didn't brick my phone after all. This may be important for those that have modified stock ROMs with TWRP.
Not being able to restore OFW was a bug in Mauro's All-in-One tool which he fixed last night. After I could easily flash 20S or 26S stock from his repository. I would also recommend this as safest/easiest procedure. Afterwards you can just flash TWRP from the same tool and move from there.
By the way, immediately after flashing 20s the FW notified it wanted to update itself, again!
