A little background:
I first installed CWM on my Nook Colour 2 years ago. A year later (for whatever reason), it reverted back to stock. I had no problem with this and continued using it. Then, roughly 4 months later, it suddenly entered a factory reset mode (after being turned on), during which I let it do its thing, and now I cannot seem to start it using any of the bootable SD's including the one found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258#post25354258
Some specs that may be required:
I am using Linux Mint 14 to flash the SD using:
Code:
sudo dd if=CWM-5.5.04-bootable_SD.img of=/dev/mmcblk0
where /dev/mmcblk0 is pointing to the SD card. I then insert the SD card into the device and turn it on and/or plug it into the USB cable. Nothing happens. When I plug it into my Windows machine, it detects the device as "OMAP3630", referencing the processor but not the actual device. Would anyone have any expertise on this matter? Thank you very much.
Code:
of=/dev/mmcblk0
That bit looks wrong. You want to burn it to the microSD card. In Linux, you can list devices by "sudo blkid" and they usually use the format "/dev/sdXY". Do you have a microSD card reader handy? If you do, use that. If you don't, order one off Amazon, they cost $6 with free shipping and handling.
You can't easily brick these tablets unless you do something really crazy, like messing up the partition table or deleting /boot.
I'm certain that this is it. The only two drives available via gparted are sda1 (my laptop's hard drive) and mmcblk0 (only found when the MicroSD adapter is inserted).

In gparted, set the boot flags of the microSD to lba and boot (checkmark them). I had to do that to install CWM to my Nook Tablet, maybe it could work for the NC as well.
What kind of microSD adapter are you using?

Yep, I have been doing this, to no avail. I'm using an ADATA microSD adapter.

Sounds like you didn't flash an unlocked bootloader before installing cwm, so you're still stuck on the stock boot loader I think. Maybe you used the rom manager method after rooting the stock ROM. The method above should reset your nook back to stock, assuming you're on the stock boot loader.

Hi sagirfahmid,
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, neither of the tips can help at this point. The Nook Colour will not turn on and it isn't being detected by either lsusb nor adb. Any other tips? Thanks.

Try plugging in a powered USB cable, like your charger, and try booting it up. It should at least get to the "read forever" screen or something. From there you could do the 8 failed boots method.

Any other tips? Or is this the end of my Nook Colour?

I formated my sd card from recovery-windows and i got a bootloop when i rebooted it.
No more access to recovery-windows, i took off my sd card, bootloop again, i had to go to recovery with red triangle, pull off battery, disconnect from usb and reboot to make it work.
Factory is reset but no more network even with proper settings, and i can't access the recovery windows without having bootloop all over again. I got a mysterious IMEI SV number now too.
Strange things is the drivers are mad in hboot and recovery now , i got something like this.
I don't understand what went wrong, can someone point me in the right direction to make it work?

Yes, with blay0 0.7 currently on it.
So the network came back after one complete day without it. Don't ask me why.
But i have other major issues:
-SD Card slot not recognize, tested with different SD cards, same result.
-Bootloop when i boot my phone, only way to get around it is to plug it in usb, don't ask me why too.
-Weird Drivers still nuts with HTC DIAG, Qualcomm CDMA Technology not recognize.
I didn't know a simple SD card format from recovery can cause so much trouble :'(
Undoubtly the native drivers from Hboot disappeared, and without sd card nor recovery from PC, i don't know how to bring them back.
Can someone help me please, i don't want to lose it :'(
Okay it's a classic USB Brick sorry for the inconvenience.
**NEW GET THE TWO ICS ROMS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633907**NEW
first download all three of the files
open the acer decrypter and run it
now where select the input file, should be in downloads folder(leave the output folder
remove the sd card from your acer a500 and put it into some kind of device that can hold an sd card and plug it in
select usb mass storage device or disk drive on your device
go into your download and open the DECRYPTED rom
Extract the whole folder to desktop
now copy all of that to the sd card through your phone/device
shut off iconia tab
hold power button and VOL- until it says entering recovery mode
now you should see a green android guy with gears in him
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING
hope this worked, it worked for me!!!!!!!!
*************if the first rom doesnt work do the same steps for the second one, be sure to delete the first one off your sd card*********
any input from other users,... success?.....failure?.
just think this is good info..."if correct" i wouldn't mind having this knowledge if it works
Yes, it works. I did it a few times to unbrick my A501 this week.
I had broken my recovery also, so the EUU version helped in that case, but at least I got a clean start to go to another ROM.
hope this has worked if it has please hit the thanks button
When you say SD Card, do you mean the external SD card, or the onboard card? I need to do this, but my tablet isn't recognizing my external SD card. Is there another place for me to put the files, where the tablet will access them?
You need to us ethe external one, in cwm mount SD card
lol im such a dope ive actually used the EEU rom to ix the verified boot failed error when i first loaded flexreaper.....lol mind becoming more cluttered then my pc.
For a cluttered PC I would recommend advanced system care hahahahhahahahha and for your head a good run or bike ride or even a nap

Hi,
just a question, why download the 2 ICS ?
one of the 2 is enough ? Which one to choose ? What is the difference ?
Thanks
Only boots to recovery
So i have been using the flexreaper rom and i tried installing the newest revision and when it all finished (i took all the proper wipe steps before installing) and now my tablet only goes to the acer screen... I have tried other roms, but no dice. I am going to see if this works.
Great Job!
You did a great job with this post, It works flawlessly
Thanks!
My Iconia does not even boot, all I have is a black screen with the power light on. Will this method work for me?
Try pressing the power button and volume up at the same time and if you see the green android with gears, you are good to go.

I have managed to get it out of APX mode and flashed Lightspeed V8 ICS bootloader and recovery. Have tried to flash multiple ICS roms but it hangs at "Booting primary kernel image" with every one. Any possible ideas?

you need to re-install your bootloader, all the roms now require the ics bootloader

you need both just in case one of them doesn't work, it saves you time!!
Long-time reader, first-time poster. And I think I just did something (maybe two somethings) galactically stupid...
Like a dozen times before, I rebooted my DroidX into recovery in preparation for (re)installing a custom MIUI ROM. Formatted /system, /data, and /cache, wiped Dalvik cache... and then proceeded to reformat my SD card. (WTF??) Stupid #1.
While still in recovery, I tried enabling USB storage from one of the menus, but my Win7 PC would never notice it was there. So I copied the ROM's zip file to the microSD manually by ejecting the card... which means I pulled the battery to get at the card. (Probably) Stupid #2.
So now I have a shell of a DroidX with "nothing" on it, and I don't have the first idea how to get it back to a working state.
When the phone reboots, it gets to the old MIUI boot animation and just sits there. About the only thing I can seemingly do with this phone is get to the bootloader screen (camera/volume down/power on). When I then connect it to my PC via the USB cable, the bootloader screen says "OK to Program. Transfer Mode: USB", but I can't (for example) get adb on my PC to recognize my phone (keep getting "error: device not found").
So am I FUBAR'ed, or is there a way out of my predicament?
Never mind... I actually remembered a way to get out of this myself...
I went back to the original method of rooting .621 ... Most importantly, I followed the steps to get a .604 build onto my phone from the bootloader prompt via a live CD. (I knew I had seen that before... it just took writing it down here to jog my memory...)
Anyway, I am now back to a functioning (and rooted) .621 build on my DX.
nice job dude!
Hi guys. I had a 32gb G2 and i was able to root it, upgrade it to 4.4 and use it without a hitch.
Today i got another one (16gb version) and flashed a kitkat rom i had around without stopping to check if it was 16 or 32gb (i forgot they had this difference). Well, now i got phone that i cannot use (im stuck at the SIM card PIN). What happens is that the screen is erratic. i click 2 and it registers 7...i click 5 and it selects simultaneously 123 and so on. basically i cannot pass this screen to enable all the good stuff.
Is there any way i can solve this?
I have a LG G802.

Boot without SIM card, connect to USB and transfer correct ROM. Boot into recovery, flash proper ROM. If you can't boot without SIM card you can probably use adb push to just push the ROM onto the sdcard and then reboot to recovery + flash.

Ok. will implement & report
My problems just keep getting worse.
Since i wanted to go full stock i ended up downloading a kdz file a nd followed the tutorial on http://unbrick.itcse.com/unbrick-soft-bricked-lg-g2/
well...that didnt work. the process initiated and somewhere along the way the app stopped, and the only thing i could undestand was a "EMERGENCY something". After like 1hr with nothing happening, i unplugged the phone and got some corrupted partitions.
I then turned to the tutorial on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 ...but damn! i cant reboot properly. now all the phone does is boot up to the lg logo and nothing else happens. windows doesnt detect it, linux doesnt detect it and adb doesnot detect it. am actually crying now....IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO SOLVE THIS?....im kinda desperate here. This is a brand new phone!

maybe i could try to mess with the partitions and this time try to install some twrp that actually works? the one in the last tutorial doesnt seem to work on my 16gb model.
So yesterday I got a notification for an OTA update (I'm on sprint). I am rooted, have xposed, and have twrp installed. Partly because of my stupidity and also just to see what would happen, I clicked download and install now. Now the phone doesn't show any signs of life, even after taking out the battery and trying to drain the capacitors by holding down power then putting the battery back in. Doesn't show up on my computer when plugged in, and doesn't have any power led when charging. I've tried 4 batteries with it (lol I have too many) and they all don't work. They were all charged with external anker chargers. I've tried with the sim card and sd card taken out, too.
So yeah, my phone is dead and I have no idea what to do. I'm pretty sure I'm out of warranty because it's been two years and I've modified it.

Hey, thanks for the help. I'm not sure how to check if my device is hard bricked? Is it normal for there to be no signs of life at all, not even power LED or vibrations? I can't get my phone to the download mode in order to show up in odin so I'm not sure how I would flash the unbrick file. When I plug my phone into my computer windows says that the device has malfunctioned and I can't find it in the device manager.

It's worth to try it i think. Some users got back their phones to life using this method. @RDChase is offering you a debrick.img for your variant. This method is using sdcard so no worries at the moment with Odin
Similar thing here, Sprint, TWRP, rooted, stock rom one of the early ones v4.4.4?!
Over last couple month it kept trying to update itself at night, very sneaky!!!! I have disabled auto-download and update BUT clearly it found a way around it, bastards!
It was in a reboot loop, extremely hot and buzzing, woke me up in the middle of night, I thought it going to burst in flames like Note 7!
So I pulled the battery out and left it out till morning, but now it no longer powers up, no LED, black screen, PC keeps saying USB drive malfunction and un-recognized, can't put it in recovery or download mode! Odin doesn't detect it also. PC device manager doesn't detect it either! Used volt meter to check both batteries both are fully charged up, but it doesn't show LED charging light?!?
Is there any way to un-brick it?
Again, I repeat phone does not power up and PC doesn't detect it!
Please help, if I can't un-brick it than I have few days until end of year to catch deal on upgrade to LG V20, hopefully it can be un-looked and rooted????
Edit: Just read online there is possibility that Note 8 is coming out either in April or Early August 2017!!!!!!
I need my Note 4 working again and last until new Note 8 comes out!

Will mounting De-Brick.img on sdcard even work if phone doesn't power on or go into download/recovery mode?
Yes. Instead of booting from internal memory, the cpu will boot from the external sdcard. Make sure you prepare it correctly however. The sdcard must be the 32GB+.

:good: Thank you for debrick.img was looking for Sprint one everywhere!
Is it supposed to be 128mb or around 4Gb?
Debrick.img doesn't includes stock Rom, does it? If it does which version?
Next Steps:
1. Copy debrick.img to sdcard?
2. Put in sdcard + battery +press VolDown+Home+Power?
3. USB connect to PC + flash new Rom using Odin?
4. Root again?
Is this correct way to do it?
Has it worked for anyone?

I'm confused, I correctly mounted the image to the sd card and I put it on the phone with a fully charged battery, and tried booting into download mode thru home + volume down + power. it doesn't show anything on screen or any LEDS. it's connected to the computer but it says "usb device malfunctioned". Thanks for your help
I can't get into download mode even with the unbrick sd card in, I mounted it with win32DiskManager and everything. No charging LED or screen or vibration at all.
I installed qualcomm drivers and it shows up as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008"
After some research looks like this is the only method that would solve my issue.. problem is that nobody has released the files needed to do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/unbrick-samsung-galaxy-note-4-sm-n910w8-t3249970

dead4ngel - to permanently fix it, just Odin the stock firmware
Others - I wasn't clear in how to prepare the SD card.
To prepare it properly you image the SD card with the debrick image file. This has to be on a 32+ GB SD card. (On a Linux machine where your in the folder with debrick-n910p.img is located and your SD card is /dev/sdx the command is dd if=debrick-n910p of=/dev/sdx)
You then put it in your phone, boot to download mode (it may take a few tries), then Odin a stock rom (PH1 or PK1 only) which MUST contain the bootloader
After this you don't need have the SD card be prepared like this, your bootloader will be fixed

:good: Again thanks a lot for debrick.img it worked, you saved my butt!
Here is what I did to make it come alive, it did take couple trial and errors on my part.
Warning DO NOT copy & paste image file directly onto sdcard, it wont work!
Instead use the diskimage win32 software that was mentioned in Debrick thread before.
I used it to unpack and write file from debrick.img onto 16GB sdcard (only one I have) using that little piece of software.
I plugged in sdcard + battery, than pressed power button and phone came back to LIVE:angel:
Now it is back in my original KitKat Rom v4.4.4 still booted from sdcard, I was able to transfer all my documents and photos to my PC, thank God!

Now for next step to flash new ROM using Odin, do I have to flash original KitKat 4.4.4 or Lollipop 5.11 recovery or can I just flash stock Marshmallow 6.11?
Is there stock Sprint+rooted+De-Odexed Marshmallow 6.11 version I can safely flash?
Do I need to root again each new ROM?
