I own Blade II and I am not currently using it so I thought I could use it as Wifi HotSpot for my Gnex and nexus 7. I live in Poland and we have here carrier Aero2 which is providing free internet access, you are paying only for sim card around 6$ and you can use free 512Kbps internet, it only works on 900Mhz 3G towers but blade is supporting this frequency. I would like to use my Blade strictly as Wifi Modem only and I am wondering which is best ROM and Wifi Tethering software for such a use. I would like to have decent battery life and true wifi connection, not AD-HOC which is provided by play store apps. I tried to underclock CPU to around 300Mhz and I was ok with tether speed, but native wifi tethering in GingerBread is still battery hog. Is there any 3rd party software with non Ad-hoc hotspot and good battery consumption? Which is best rom for saving battery? Best thing would be modded android with modem feature only but i don't think there is anything like that. Thanks for help and greetings from Poland
Was wondering the same myself. Am planning to do the same at Christmas. Anyone got any tips?

I'm gonna answer in two parts
1. For good battery life and memorable performance but lacking in eye candy, Swedish Snow is a clear favorite
2. There's an app called Wifi Tether for root users. The default setup method is ad-hoc but can be switched to master from preferences
ZTE Blade | Asus Transformer TF300T
Just a quick update if anyone is interested.
This Christmas I spent almost 3 weeks using the ZTE blade as a wifi hotspot for two mobile phones and a Windows 7 laptop.
I used cyanogen 10 and wifi tether for root users.
I had it plugged into an 11,000 mAh external battery pack so we could use it when out and about.
It ran a bit hot occasionally and on a couple of days the phones kept disconnecting (solved by reboot).
Upload speeds seemed a bit slow but apart from that it worked a charm.
AW: [Q] Best ROM for Blade as Wifi Hotspot only?
I planned to do the same. I would prefer cm 7 underlocked and the wifi tethering oft cm7.

How low would you underclock it to?

I think 320 is enough for tethering. What do you think?

I really haven't a clue, so any advice is appreciated. In any case, I find an external battery back more than adequate (when I do need to tether it is abroad in a cold climate, so I can keep it in a jacket).

245 will do too
I'm sure this has been asked but I can't find it. I know the stock ROM support 5ghz but what other good ROMs have it? I can't use 2.4ghz in my apartment because it is too crowded.
Just checked in SuperGalaxy wifi settings, it does have options for auto, 5GHz, and 2.5GHz. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36009763
Don't have dual band router, so never have checked for this b before in the other current roms I have used.

I will give this ROM a try tonight thanks.
Nope that ROM has the setting but it just keeps kicking back to AUTO and never lists the 5Ghz AP.

I can confirm it does, but I haven't tried it

I tested it but same as the others setting will not stick on 5Ghz just kicks back to 2.4 without ever showing any AP
Well that was my only idea. Sorry.

try some things from this post--->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=851687&highlight=5ghz+wifi.or the code hasn't been written into the latest kernals for 5GHZ as is stated in this post-->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402532&highlight=5ghz+wifi
Yeah I went back to one of the stock mod ROMs and it can see the 5Ghz now but still can't connect to it.
cnote's JB 10.1 ROMs at least have an option to control 5 GHz wifi. Not sure if it actually does anything.
I have checked this and no the setting is not connected to anything. HTC broke the 5ghz with the very first update to this phone. To get it to work I would need to go back to the first release stock software. Unless some dev can pull the old drivers and put it into a ROM I'm sol
Hey guys
I got my n4 last week and I noticed my wifi (on 2.4ghz) did not work that great. I upgraded to 4.3 and enabled 5ghz on my router. It worked like a charm and I got 30 down without a problem. When I started installing custom roms it would no longer connect to 5ghz. I tried almost all modems and it does not work, it just does not connect. I tried factory reset back to 4.2.2 and it still does not work. Did I break my hardware or can it be fixed with sw?
Thanks..
Ps: I am currently on an EDGE network with low signal strenght. When my wifi is not connected I get better signal..
Most likely hardware unfortunately.

You sure? I can connect fine to 2.4ghz networks now, just 5ghz does not work, but that seems to be a common problem?

Strange, one works but the other doesn't.
Did you try reflashing the radio and which radio do you have?

Yes I tried flashing almost all radios.. Using .84 now. And I can see the network, most of the time, but when I try to connect, it just loses it and can not see it anymore.

Try flashing a custom rom, that fixed my Bluetooth issue so it should help you.

Yeah you should, looks like the WiFi chip is not working with dual band correctly.

Thanks for your input, strange that it worked at the beginning with 5ghz only and now with 2.4 ghz only

Before sending it back you should flash it to the stock rom and lock the bootloader, of course quickly check if WiFi works with both bands properly and if that fails then wipe the data.

After upgrading to 4.3, I have lost my Wifi performance to my normal router. Now, while still able to scan available routers, I'm no longer able to connect.
Anyone know of a solution, short of an RMA?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Wat kind of router are you using and what frequency? 5Ghz or 2.4?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
One is a linksys, the other is unknown as it's at the doctors office. As for frequency, one of each.

Change wifi channel at router and try again.
With other wifi networks works fine?
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 4
No. I have no connectivity. Wi-Fi performance has slowly diminished since I did the upgrade.

Setting a static IP has fixed it for me. Setting it on the phone that is. Happens far less now than when i didn't have a static IP.
How did you upgrade at 4.3?
Through official OTA?
if you could check it, reflash only radio.Img from factory Rom.
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk 4
My issue is not that bad.. the only issue i have since the update is the wifi signal drops completely, and the router next to me on my desk. The signal comes and goes for a couple of minutes then goes back to normal

The upgrade was done via a full wipe (was rooted at the time) and flashed the image from Google. Phone has been stock since. After the upgrade, I noticed the Wi-Fi signal went from four bars in the living room to three. Before losing connectivity completely, then two. One to none happened pretty quick.
I just upgraded my n7100 to 4.3 and the wifi bug (slows down after a while in standby) is STILL present! Is there a reason why this is never fixed?
I have tried with CM10.2 and that bug is not there.
I have same issue on 4.4.2 omnirom. So annoying.

I think that, this affects only specific models. I have wifi always on, connecting to different networks through the day and no issue, no slowdowns and great range. Maybe you should see an service center.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I had it on 4.1.2 but not on this one. In fact I didn't use Wifi because of that and the huge battery drain. I can now use it again ase both problems seem to be solved

Maybe it has to do with the internet router?! I had the same issue with galaxy s3 a year ago. But i have changed routers aswell so it has to be a combination of router bands/model/speed etc.
But since it works with CM10.2 custom rom, it is likely the wifi drivers on the phone that is somewhat incompatible with my kind of router...
You know that you have a option in wifi defenicions to switch between networks if wifi is weak

I know.....I solve the probleme with that. .for some reason the wifi is weak for 'code' and then switch.....tell me when u disable that feature
