[Q] Flashing systemui.apk through recovery - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my n4 keeps showing "unfortunately, system ui has stopped" whenever i press ok, it disappears but reappears after a split second, it is not impossible to press anything but it is very very difficult due to it popping up after a split second, someone told me to flash a stock 4.3 systemui.apk but i did not know how and where to get it from until i stumbled upon this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2384877 i got the orig. 4.3 one, i want to make sure if this is the first 4.3 one and not the new 4.3 that just came out yesterday, if it is how do i flash it through recovery i have twrp, please help

I can make it but it takes way too much time, what rom are you using?

I was actually working on this MOD today but the code from the S3 is still a little buggy. I will get it fixed up and added to the next version of FreeGS4 (more info on that in the android development section) I might write up a TUT for that exact MOD as well once its done so people on stock can enjoy it too stay tuned
Awesome

Well, if what you say is true and you are correctly flashing the factory images with fastboot ( including the radio )
your screwed.

Download a nexus 4 ROM and flash that.
Next time do not ever ever flash a rom that is not meant for the device. Is your phone a S4? No. Is it a HTC One? No. Stick with ROMs and kernels meant for your device and you'll be good.

He said he ACCIDENTALLY flashed the ROM of a gs4. No need to rip him apart for a mistake, I think he is going to suffer enough by having to replace his defective phone.

Did flash the factory images via Fastboot ?

Tough luck mate
I'm no expert, but obviously you've overwritten your modem/radio partition, maybe even corrupted. I don't know if you could zero that partition (with dd codes) and then flash one of our radios... Not sure if that would work...

Did you flash all the files? System, boot loader, radio... Something like 6 files? If not I would flash all the files. If so I would flash them again.

No, it's not because it's aosp. Nexus 4 uses aosp but the drivers and all are different on each device.
I'm sorry if I sounded like a total jerk before.

Install 4.1 via nexus toolkit. Then 4.2. This should install the nexus radio as well.

its ok mate i just need a solution because i dont want to sent it for service..

my nexus 4 is bricked :(

Hey guys,
I've recently updated to android 4.3
I've installed franco kernel on top of the os and it seems to screw up my phone
the phone restarted and its stuck on the google logo
I've tried to use nexus root toolkit of WUG to install stock + unroot in the soft brick mode
and its still stucked on the google logo
tried factory reset from bootloader and now it tells me I dont have OS hehe
mmm dont know really what to do from here and not sure
I did the above mentioned steps as I should.
I dont have problem to delete everything and to do a factory reset if possible
Also I'd like to have 4.2.2 .. loved it more as I could work with franco kernel
would much appriciate any guidence on to follow up from here
as I am preety lost.
thanks alot mates!
That is soft bricked and there is like a million ways to fix it.
If you want you can sideload a custom rom of your choice or you can just use the Nexus Stock Images which allows you to install 4.2.2 or 4.3.

Since it is just Soft bricked then yes, just boot to recovery with volume up and power, scroll to recovery, select and restore your backup.

Choose your android version here, choose the Mako/Occam type.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjwr66v
From the looks of it there is no Fastboot binary in it so you need to copy them over to that folder making sure your in the bootloader and you have drivers.

And now you will laugh any time you soft brick the phone again because you'll realize how easy it is to fix it. I was in the same boat as you and learning how to use ADB/Fastboot really changed the game for me.

I had this same issue you had, and I noticed it happened because i was flashing franco kernel for 4.2.2 over JB 4.3
Make sure you are downloading the correct version of franco if you still want his kernel.
Something similar Happened to me today.....i flashed the franco kernel via the CWM recovery.....and when i rebooted the screen turened into some blue-pink coloured array....of squares.....and it doenst go over from there??? what should i do now/??

Missing progress

Hi everyone. Dunno if anyone else has the same problem, but i took a quick look and didn't find anything so I'll just go on. I have a nexus 4 running rasbean jelly 4.2.2. Rom with Matr1x kernel and for some time now i have a problem, mainly after rebooting my phone. Most applications that track progress like games and their saves , chrome and its tabs, etc start like it's the first time running them. Any idea what might be going wrong? Thanks in advance.

uninstall it. dirty flash your build of rasbean(and gapps) without wiping anything. i think this will take care of your issue.
Isn't dirty flash dangerous?
I thought maybe upgrade into 4.3 but not sure if worth the trouble.

dirty flashing isnt dangerous. its the only way i flash(just make a nandroid backup just in case)! i even dirty flashed rasbean 4.3 over rasbean 4.2.2 when rasbean 4.3 just hit. but yea, it might be time to upgrade to 4.3 too
when updating the same rom, dirty flash. when trying a new different rom, then wipe data.
Ok i think I'll try this and hopefully problem will be solved too. Thanks for help mate.

[Q] Nexus 5 KitKat Dialer

One of the things I was looking forward to trying when I got the 4.4.2 update was the KitKat Dialer from Nexus 5. I have used it with custom 4.4 Roms in the past and really liked it. One of the first things I tried when I updated to 4.4.2 was to sideload the .apk. That did not work and just kept FC. I rooted and flasked the .zip, same results. Anyone know of a work around or a way to get this to work?
Try the flashable zip from ParanoidAndroid it's listed on their gapps page as an add on. It works on CarbonRom.

Thanks for the suggestion but that is the zip file I flashed from recovery.
I'm having the same issue (FC when opening Google Dialer after flashing the zip). I'm very interested in a solution to this. Hopefully someone has an idea.
I don't think those will work because they seem to be for AOSP. Use on TW would require some modding.

That's kind of what I figured, but the article referenced the S4 specifically. Don't all S4s have touchwiz?

Yes all do , except for the Google edition. It had TW framework but even using TW apps like the Samsung camera apk took a lot of modding to work.

I guess I'm in the minority but I actually like TW dialer better. . It's prettier & more functional for me. The dialer screen is one of the uglier screens on my Nexus 5, IMHO. I really don't like the blue on black look.
