Hey guys,
I've recently updated to android 4.3
I've installed franco kernel on top of the os and it seems to screw up my phone
the phone restarted and its stuck on the google logo
I've tried to use nexus root toolkit of WUG to install stock + unroot in the soft brick mode
and its still stucked on the google logo
tried factory reset from bootloader and now it tells me I dont have OS hehe
mmm dont know really what to do from here and not sure
I did the above mentioned steps as I should.
I dont have problem to delete everything and to do a factory reset if possible
Also I'd like to have 4.2.2 .. loved it more as I could work with franco kernel
would much appriciate any guidence on to follow up from here
as I am preety lost.
thanks alot mates!
That is soft bricked and there is like a million ways to fix it.
If you want you can sideload a custom rom of your choice or you can just use the Nexus Stock Images which allows you to install 4.2.2 or 4.3.

Since it is just Soft bricked then yes, just boot to recovery with volume up and power, scroll to recovery, select and restore your backup.

Choose your android version here, choose the Mako/Occam type.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjwr66v
From the looks of it there is no Fastboot binary in it so you need to copy them over to that folder making sure your in the bootloader and you have drivers.

I had this same issue you had, and I noticed it happened because i was flashing franco kernel for 4.2.2 over JB 4.3
Make sure you are downloading the correct version of franco if you still want his kernel.

So you have no backup or another file you can flash? If not, install drivers...
This also belongs in QA.

Install correct drivers and flash stock rom with adb. Else use the toolkit.

We can't debug your windows pc... Fast boot drivers can/will install fine. Try another computer and see if the toolkit will get you going.
Edit: all you need to do is read, read the stickies and read tutorials on how to return to stock. The drivers will install without being inside Android

Remove the current n4 drivers with device manager in windows. Then find the proper drivers here on xda in the n4 general section. After that you should be able to use the toolkit to boot to recovery or flash a stock build.

I know why it went into bootloop. To flash other kernals aside frmo Francos...you need to flash stock boot image. Francos kernal has you flash his boot image in order to flash his kernal. I dont know why this is the case on the nexus 4, maybe because he is building blindly without a nexus 4 present with him.
The Gnexus wasnt like this but.....thats why you went into boot loop. I just skimmed his thread and found out your case was due to the above.

Download a nexus 4 ROM and flash that.
Next time do not ever ever flash a rom that is not meant for the device. Is your phone a S4? No. Is it a HTC One? No. Stick with ROMs and kernels meant for your device and you'll be good.

I'm no expert, but obviously you've overwritten your modem/radio partition, maybe even corrupted. I don't know if you could zero that partition (with dd codes) and then flash one of our radios... Not sure if that would work...

Root and install either Clockworkmod or TWRP Recovery following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266654
Before flashing any custom ROM or kernel, make a nandroid backup so you can revert back if the changes cause your phone to crash.
before flashing anything, learn about your device and the basics to modding your device first. or youll soon start a "new user, help me i think i bricked my device" thread.

They should all work with whatsapp as far as I know. As for liking the ROM that's completely subjective of course. Personally I doubt I could find a ROM that I actually disliked for this phone since the're mostly minor variations from stock and I like stock as well.

Please be more clear... If your are already on a custom recovery and want to change for ex currently on cwm and want to change it to twrp just flash the twrp zip and reboot, done. (Though not sure as I am still confused about your question)
You just flash a new recovery using fastboot, same as you did flashing the first custom recovery

You don't copy anything onto the phone... You flash it in fastboot. Plenty of threads about this.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To restore the phone to stock you need to use fastboot, not flash through custom recovery, otherwise the phone still isn't stock and they won't receive updates.
Just follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34552123
For Windows 8 to install the driver you need to reboot into advance mode and press F7 at the menu to disable driver signature, adb/fastboot and driver link in my signature.
