I've been getting these ever since I updated to 4.3 I believe... Its not a popup that's in the notification shade, rather one that pops right in the middle of the screen, and it shows an advertisement for an app saying download free from play store (I think it had advertised a free game "paradise island") and then it tries to say why it recommended that app by showing other downloads i made off the play store.
Are these normal/from the play store or are they from a spammy app? Please help, thanks!

Its an app you downloaded that uses push or pop up notifications. Delete it.

Try this:

This app will find any app that is pushing advertisements to your screen.

Nothing detected, its not something that's filling up my notification shade just a nasty popup. I went through all the games I had in my phone (not many, just 6) and unchecked the "allow notifications" option in the app settings menu. I haven't gotten one tonight, but next time I do get it I can screenshot it...

Sounds like a malicious app though, I haven't heard of popups on a phone not related to SMS notifications, or halo.

Very weird, could you show us a screenshot?
Check what is running, take a screenshot of what is running, if you don't see an app which shouldn't be there then go to the cached processes area above.

This makes the most sense to me. I think the apk is the problem, not the phone. It could also be that the apk is specifically compiled for an incompatible device.
You're not using SCREEN FILTER when trying to install non-market, are you?
Don't ask me why....

Haha, yeah, I had the same trouble many months ago! I was baffled! I knew I was doing everything right, but nothing would work!
Also, just so you know, you don't need to uninstall it, you just can't have it activated when you try to install apps. I guess you just can't install apps while it's dimming your screen, but I still can't understand why.
Glad that worked for you! !

That or just a bug/feature (what's the difference?) with the lockscreen andb play music
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I get this too, and it's not missing album art, the album art only takes up a small chunk at the top of the screen. His picture just happens to be of a song with missing album art.
I was viewing it in the bright sunlight and didn't see the missing album art place holder. I'd imagine it's a feature then to accentuate the player.

It was never like this before on stock or Eclipse. I assume it's something to do with this ROM.

I do not believe there is any way to disable it.
Try using a music player that overrides the lockscreen (such as Winamp)

Does anyone know how to permanently hide the status bar across the whole system? I want to use floating notifications but the double notifications would drive me crazy!
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app
It depends on the rom you're using. Most custom rom can hide the status bar out-of-the-box, just look around in the settings.
I'm on sentinel ROM, either I'm being really stupid or there isn't an option. It comes with expanded desktop but I want to keep to navbar. An option to run all apps in full screen would be perfect if it exists?
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app
I'm not familiar with that one. You can also try different launchers, like Nova or Apex. I've seen this feature in one of them, but it was long ago.
Nova allows you to hide the status bar.

Thanks for the suggestion, but surely that's only on the homescreen? In looking for something more global

When you're in apps it's also hidden, as well as when you're in the home screen. But if you're in say, Settings, it will come back up again. That's personally what I use and I like it.
Thanks for the tips, ended up deciding to use an app called Full Screen! Lost a bit of navbar functionality but it's acceptable for the amount of screen space I now have!

If you lose the navbar anyway, then why don't you use your roms fullscreen option? I think PIE is awesome.
I tried to set up pie controls but couldn't get it to work. Don't know if it was me, the app, the ROM, or what, but I'm happy with the way it"s set up now so I'm not going to look into it too much

What happened to voice typing? I factory resetted my phone and have lost it again. What gives? I used it very often!
How do I get it back?
Update: if you disable Google search, it also takes away the voice typing. I enabled Google search to test it and it appeared on my keyboard.

try the new app "Voice Typing Keyboard" VTK... much better, no microphone button to push, just say "listen" or "spelling" when in text field and start dictation, can move cursor around, insert punctuation, symbols, do editing formatting etc, all with voice

That only disables app scanning. I am talking about the app itself turning itself back on inside the app manager from a disabled state.
You can use this app to disable any bit of bloatware you have. I'm using it and I haven't had lookout come back. It's paid, but I find it an investment because I usually get Samsung devices only
