[Q] Do you use a screen protector on your S4? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
I had the HTC sensation for over a year and didn't have any screen protector on it or even a case and its still in really good condition you can only see really really small scratches under the light holding it at the right angle.
Do i really need one for the S4? Also if you use one, which one do you use?
Thanks

Can't say if you need one or not, since it depends on what you're doing with your phone. I've used the Spigens glass screen protector and it worked great until it fell off guess I cleaned the screen to shabby before putting it on.

Ahh yes I read good and bad reviews of that screen protector. How long did it stay on for? Also are you going to get another one? Or just leave the screen as it is?

It fell off after a few weeks of usage and it has worked fine without one now for 2 months so I'll probably not get a new one. No scratches so far on the screen.

The screen will get scratched without a screen protector. The End.
I'm very happy with Spigen's GlasT Nano. Minimize the chances of botching the install by using the tape hinge method and using the shower to steam the room to remove dust from the air.

Nope, never used one in my life. Use good cases though like atm the Spigen Slim Armour View Case for the S4.

I like to keep my phone in mint condition, so i use Spigen's Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protector and a Spigen Neo Hybrid case, and for day's when i know i'll go out and drink too much i use a otterbox commuter case
I use this screen protector, because the glass ones are too thick and i don't really like it.

i use the iSmooth ultra clear, i love it, it feels like theres no screen protector and i cant even see the borders of the protector because the otterbox commuter covers them (except te top border)

to protect... or not to protect

a question for those of you who've had their Execs for a little while now: what's the screen like? I was paranoid about scratching mine with the stylus so put a screen protector after a day or two.
problem is it feels so thick that I might as well have thrown a big blanket over the screen... the exec doesn't notice the stylus unless I press really quite hard, so it might be defeating the purpose anyway
what do people think?
is there anyone who has been using theirs for a while without a protector who could say what the screen is like now?
you should use the screen protector. otherwise your screen will look like mine... however, i use it too much...
i've made a mistake and bought a GOOD protector when i noticed the damage on the screen.
So don't be that stupid as me and buy it before it's too late.
BTW, i bought one from www.Innopocket.com and it is still on my screen for last 6 months...
It is non glare, very hard surface, thin protector.
Writing is exactly the same as without it. Screen visibility is much better WITH it, thanx to it's non reflective surface.
buzz
Agree with buzz - you can be as carful as u want but dust on screen makes stylus scratchy.
Having said that, for my last few XDA's they all got scratched, THEN I put a protector on and they look as good as new!
I have had 5 or 6 different pocket pc's over time all of them for at least a year, i never ever used a screen protector and when i sold them they were almust as new without scratches.
My universal wont get a screen protector on that gives me a bad picture quality. i wanna enjoy the great screen on the device, not walking around with a bad screen so the next owner can have a good screen.
just my two cents
the best screen protectors are made by martin fields....you wont even know its there!

yeah - that's the type i'm using... although i'm really not getting on with it - like i say, it feels really thick, and seems to make the screen far less responsive
i spent quite a bit on it, though - so am reluctant to try buying others, and gotta admit, i was hoping to hear that i could just pull it off and forget about it
you should get one from Brando HK. their ultra clear screen protector is the best protector I have ever used on earth.
Yes you should use a screen protector.
Not only does it protect screen it also reduces glair very usefull if you use GPS. I got mine from www.proporta.com ther also do a nice case.
Regards
Colin Bate
I had a wallaby for 12 months & a himalaya for 18 months, both without protectors & both looked fine when it came time to sell. I carried them in my pocket with the screen facing my leg. As you can close the screen on the exec, I'm even less concerned.
However, the anti glare part sounds like a good thing

Anybody Buy The TMO 'Sreen Protector'???

just wondering how many people bought the official TMO US screen protectors for the hd2? they came in a two pack for $14.99 (!!!), but i figured screw it and bought them, that way my fiance and i could have "protected screen." i put them on immediately, even before turning it on. seemed ok, not the clearest material used, made the screen sorta frosted looking.
anyways, after a month the two bottom corners never laid pergectly flush on mine and dust way getting between the uplifted areas of the cover and the screen. so i decided to peel it off and go naked without a protector.
so far i am liking it WAY better. screen seems way more crisp and clear. and the accuracy for Swype is MUCH better. not nearly as many typing errors. only downside is that you finger needs to be pretty dry, otherwise it doesn't glide to well.
just seeing what other users are thinking about it?
i'm doubtful that i will be replacing the cover
As with many things in life, it's always "better" to not use protection! However it's not as safe... I also DO NOT use a screen protector, my girl friend does and I notice the difference when having to use her phone.
I tried my phone for the first 2 days without a screen protector and almost always had to rub my finger on my shirt first so it can glide on the screen. And the smudges were a lot. I guess my fingers leak oil .
After 2 days, I put on a screen protector and its been fine for now. The screen did look a lot better without it.

ya, the shirts and pants come in handy.
i saw this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcEaehKWr2s) a long time before the US release, so i'm not TOO worried about 'protection'....^^^ in more ways than one (lol)
Screen protector
I bought this and the screen protector was perfect...the screen looks the same and swype works really well! The wall charger was garbage...made my phone wig out. But the car charger extra case and screen protector are TOPS!

"the screen protector also comes with an installation squeegee, a bottle of application solution" makes me nervous, but it looks like it would be good
I've read 2 stories on this forum where members have tried the "wet application" of screen protector and they ended up with water under their glass. The solution I read was to place the HD2 in Silica Gel or Rice for a week.
I have always put invisible shields by Zagg on my gadgets .
I heard about the rice if you happen to get your phone wet.
Will see how the "application" goes I guess.
The screen is supposedly made out of a virtually indestructible indium tin oxide which is ultra resistant to scratches and scuffs. For this reason I don't use a screen shield. I have probably cleaned my screen with every thing I can wear and its yet to be scratched.
I'm using the T-Mo screen protector. It's okay, but my primary reason for using it is because without it, the naked screen smudges like a mo-fo. When this one wears out, I'll probably go without for a while, but for now, it doesn't bother me.
I had the same cloudy looking protectors from Tmo .. and dust starts getting into it too soon. Then i took it off and wow, I was blinded by the brilliance
of the glass
Then I ordered zagg invisible shield and got it fully covered. Works for me.
MUCH better than tmo ver ..

LOL yes, exactly the reason I'm starting to consider getting one...I love the glass screen, but I have to wipe the damn thing down all the time
I installed that screen protector I mentioned earlier, it was a little different because of the application spray, but it turned out really nice.....no bubbles of any kind and you almost don't notice the protector on it at all

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'm gonna give that one a try (they do have a model for the US Tmo HD2 also)
I use BodyGuardz Full Body on mine and the screen protector that came with it looks like it's not even there.
personally, I would never use a wet application screen protector. there are lots of non we application options out there, so why even bother?
That's what I thought too but decided to try it out....all you have to do is follow the instructions and don't over moisten the protector....I also let it sit face down over night on a small towel.
tmo screen
is a big thumbs up PERIOD worth every penny

[Q] Do you Have Protector Screen in your HD2?

Well i had a screen protector in my hd2 since first day, but i read some and found that it is scratchness, so i took off the screen protector and the difference is big o.o the colors and brightness of the screen are so beautiful compared with screen protector (L)
so can someone confirm me that is it truly anti-scratches? or it is just false?
i have a nice scratch down my screen lol

mines from trying to prove you cant scratch it LOL........
It's highly resistant to scratches. I don't have a single scratch, no protector, and have had the phone since they came out in the US.
Of course, being glass, it still possible to scratch if you try hard enough.
i used the pouch that came with it for abotu a month and a half but then i didnt bother, ive had the phone since nov09 and dont have any scratches on the screen
i use no other than "brando ultra clear" since my early days with my palm V
screen protection is highly resistable and after 2 Years of usage with stylus no scratches. On my HD2 no difference with or without screen protector.
Udo
I'd recommend some kind of pouch when you put it somewhere together with other stuffs, especiually keys etc. If its solo in your pocket its safe.
just keep the screen pointing to your leg in case someone hits you with something. <-happened to me
i have my hd2 from nov 2009...i use the leather pouch it came in with...clean as new....but then i take care of it real good....it can get scratched if it comes in contact with a material which has a higher moh (measure of hardness) ...so get the leather pouch for hd2...it wont add bulk to your phone and provides the best cover for the screen
I got the Otterbox for the HD2 and its amazing. When I take the phone out of it to remove the battery or sd card the phone still looks BRAND new. They cost only a little more than some screen protectors do. I got mine on Amazon for around $30
2 years with my dear and not a single scratch, and i don't use the leather pouch, only a silicon case to protect the back.
Hi, screen protector save my phone when i accidentally drop my hd2 from meter and half. Screen clash on sharp stone on ground, protector to destroy, but display survive with only little scratch. So, im using screen protector. Obviously do not use cheap screen protector.

do i need a screen protector since this is gorilla glass?

why would i need a screen protector if my phone is gorilla glass????
I'm not getting one, haven't had a screen protector on any of my phones and never had a problem with scratches.
I think they are counter productive, it is to prevent scratches but they take away the clarity and they themselves get so scratched up that you can't see the screen.

I replied in your other thread, but ill copy the relevant part here.
You need one if you don't want the glass to get scratched. Little pieces of sand etc... that are in your pockets or whatever will scratch the glass. It prob wont be deep scratches or anything, but you'll get those little faint whisper type scratches for sure. So for me i'd rather use a screen protector, let it get dinged up and just switch them out every so often.
For me, I prefer to take the chance on small scratches (large scratches are unlikely b/c I'm very careful w/ my phone) rather than decrease the look and feel of the screen w/ a screen protector. And regardless of what anyone says, using a screen protector 100% affects the look and feel of the screen. Some are better than others, and a good installation helps, but they are always noticeable, IMHO.

Yeah i agree, it does alter the look of the screen. Getting the crystal clear ones help, but you'll always know its there. I guess you just need to figure out what's more important to you. For me i want the device in mint condition as i will turn it over when im ready for a new one. My VZW Gnex (about a year old now, day 1 buyer) is still in near mint condition. You wont find any scratches on the glass and i keep it in a case so you wont find anything on the body either. But that's just me - type A anal lol
I bought back and front protector, and while the back one is perfectly fine, the front looks ****e, as obviously doesn't cover the curved edge....I don't know if I'll keep it on

Anyone find a good screen protector film or glass?

Can't find any ones that I like so far. I know the edge makes things difficult but all the glass one I've seen don't have adhesive all over just along the edge and the film one i bought doesn't stay down on the edge so has anyone found a good one or decent one?
Please specify it's full coverage...glass or film...works with case and of so what case

I try using the screen protector that came with the ghostek case I bought install it cover the entire front area of phone plus edges let set for about an hour try to put case on but everytime I did it would lift off the sides of the screen protector so I just took off the screen protector till I find that works. Also try the supershieldz ones same thing.

I was thinking about that one but im not sure about the wet install. I'm good at putting screen protectors on but I've never did a wet install before...i May have to check it out
If you have some time and patience go for the Invisible Shield hd dry full body coverage. I originally ordered a Naked skin from slickwraps but its been processing since the 18th. So when my N7 arrived today I went on the search around town and ended up in a Verizon store. They kindly put it on for me, took two tries lol. Mid-install the Verizon guy just rips it and balls it up and went to grab another. When I got home I went through the packaging and noticed he skimmed me on the install. and didn't install the back.. I tell you what that was the worst torture in my life but hey pics below! Came out beautiful. +extra dbrand lens laying around conveniently . :good: winning
I put on a IQ shield matte. I like the matte finish but it is not for everyone. There is some lost clarity but much less glare and no fingerprints. I like the wet install for no bubbles and being easy. It takes some time to let the edges dry so they will stick. Let it sit at least overnight before using or putting on a case.
My case (Spigen Ultra Hybrid)did cause the corners to lift, a common problem with cases. IQ Shield has since come out with a "case friendly" updated version that is getting good reviews. I've got one on its way.

I ended up buying the skinomi matte screen protector which stuck on the edges perfect. Went without a case for a week and then put the spigen neo hybrid on which is my favorite case of all time and it peeled the corners still. I warmed the screen protector and was able to reform the corners a bit and it helped but i still want a problem free combination
This is the case and glass screen protector that I use. The setup is perfect for me. You could use any screen protector with this case. It also holds the glass ones down and keep them in place.

Without clicking the link I'm gonna guess that's the unicorn beetle case. I have that myself and love it. I use the holster while at work
Great case. It works well with a glass screen protector.
I have an armorsuit on this phone, as well as several tablets and phones prior. Was originally skeptical of the curved edge, but it is working great so far. In the past 6 years armorsuits and common sense have kept me from having any cracked screens. And when I upgrade and sell the old phones, removing the armorsuit has always left a perfect as-new screen (but the housings usually have suffered damage from drops, etc.).

Is your tempered glass screen protector any good? How is the clarity? Sensitivity?
The clarity and sensitivity is great. I have one on my phone and my fiances phone. This is the third one we bought and its pretty close to the flat ones. Just line it up because the cut outs are exact. No room for error.
